I have a certificate somewhere that says I , at the time, was in the top youth orchestra in my state. This certificate in and of itself only serves to remind me of the fact that I had done that. I take pride in it only because of what it represents, not it's intrinsic value. I understand people wanting mementos, but the problem gets worse when you make those momentos have value in and of themselves like looking cool. I think the biggest problem is that in this game of virtual representations the certificates of achievement are also of value simply for aesthetics. Maybe if you could walk around with a few favorite "achievements" on your player card highlighted and make sure everyone gets at least access to any cosmetic you'd have less friction.

I don't know of any gold medalist who worked their butt off simply because the gold held more intrinsic value than a bronze.

Considering that right now there are so-called gaming journalists complaining about games being "too hard," this shouldn't be too much of a surprise. As much as exclusives doesn't bother me (too much), I feel that there should at least be an opportunity for people to get them. Personally, trying to make things inclusive is what's ruining most things today as it's just trying to appeal to a certain group of people who never liked the product your producing in the first place (And never will) while pissing off your core fan base. At the end of the day, I support equality in opportunity, not in result.

I want SE to make a “QoL” mechanic called Jesus Touch in crafting. It’ll 100% quality anything so all you have to do is progress the quality by spamming careful synthesis. Oh, and I would also like a “QoL” mechanic where NPCs give me 10 Million gil for free. :P

Yeah, and if people want to be TRYHARDS they can not use Jesus Touch or use the QoL mechanic to farm gil! They can do it the hard way, as long as we both get rewarded the same cosmetically! That way, nobody can tell how bad I am... /s

The mental gymnastics people are going through in this thread, man. All to create a whiny argument to persuade others to give them stuff instead of working for it is crazy. If they just spend that time applying themselves, we would have a better playerbase. For the record, I'm all for timed exclusive PVE rewards. It would be so much cooler to see the players on savage raid mounts / gear that wasn't available to the masses. It would mean something and create that sense of awe to inspire people to try harder.

I just think it's a little weird that a lot of people in this game have those clothes, titles, accessories, mounts, weapons and etc that they never touch and neve see any use, yet they start rampaging and witchunting on the forums the moment those dusty, forgotten items become easily available to the masses.

Because those were gifts from SE to those of us who played v1 as a "thank you for standing with us in the darkest of times". And gifts they promised would remain exclusive to us. It showed their appreciation and were important at that time. That's why a lot of us still hold onto items no one can even see or know we have because they were a drop or quest item or gear piece that simply no longer exists. v1 wasn't just a game, it was an experience, and those reminders make that experience that much more special.

Sure we may not glam them all the time or use them often, but when we see them they have a lot of sentimental value. And when SE goes back on their word and starts handing them out like candy to whoever wants it, it's a slap in the face that devalues an experience that a lot of people still hold dear.

It may sound silly to you cause it may be "just a game" but like I said, ffxiv v1 was a lot more than that for many and we were incredibly invested in this world, its people, its story and the games overall survival.

The thing is I don't think many players who do ex primals or even the most hard core raiders have ever cleared a piece of content got a shiny mount, minion, title, or whatever. and then turned around and said NO ONE else is allowed this.... All many of them ask is that if you want to get said shiny you should take on the samechallenges they did to get it. That's not selfish at all that's fundamental andbasic fairness. these players wouldn't care less if literally everyone had that same shiny if they all overcame the same challenge to get it. hell many of them would actually be happy about it because it would obviously mean the average skill level of the playerbase was a dam site higher. which might then make things like raid finder or duty finder pugs more approachable.

The selfishness or entitlement comes from players who "pay the same sub" and thus demand the same shinys. nerf that content, make it easier because i want that shiny other people have and i'm to lazy to actually go and get it.. these people are the epitome of selfish because it is there personal sense of entitlement that destroys the games challenges and trivialises its shiny trophies.

If YOU have the shiny and you did it the hard way, what part of someone who does the quest 2 years later or overgeared removes your accomplishment? If the only reason you are valuing something is because others don't have it, then maybe it isn't the thing that's important. That's selfish. Only finding value in being able to lord something over others.
