I never implied anything about mechanics in there. Otherwise, I would have talked about how the Egis are likely being meshed out for Heavensward. Also, your pet is a notable factor to your damage output. Anyone who's played SMN long enough in this game can tell you their overall DPS output drops when they don't have a pet out. Just not by as large of a margin as people keep thinking it should be.

I love the new direction for summoner going into Heavensward. I hope they expand the egi glamour to being fully customisable. Being able to use any egi in any roll would be pretty cool. Especially if they add Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan to the roster. Giving us all 6 primary elemental choices for our constant summon.

I look forward to Dreadwyrm stance as something closer to traditional summons with a twist. Slowly drawing aether into the summoner and unleashing it. Feels a bit like how summons tended to have a long cast time or limited usage amount on a fight-by-fight basis.

It is disappointing, but you have to look at it from a design perspective. As it is people only use Garuda because contagion makes her hands down the best summon for a damage dealer, which is what a summoner is. To improve on the summoner the first thing they would have to do is make contagion a summoner ability and not lock it to an egi. Then if you want all summons to be useful without being redundant you have to look at what each of them do. Titan is fine as is since his roll is to tank and he accomplishes that extremely well, making it so that in several dungeons titan can flat out replace a player controlled tank. Then Garuda from my point of view would make an ideal egi for single target damage. When it comes to doing damage to a single boss then she would be best. Then Ifrit would seem to be best for doing damage to groups of enemies. If you have swarms of adds then he would be your best bet by giving him a bunch of aoes. Those two would obviously need to be reworked to accomplish that. That would at least make all of the summons useful and viable depending on the situation and it would make the class much more interesting imo, but what room is there for more summons then? What would a ramuh, leviathan, or shiva egi do that would be unique to them? I suppose a shiva egi could be in line with other ice spells and have a lot of binding and crowd control skills, but that's about it. Without elemental strengths and weaknesses in this game there's not a whole lot of room for variety with summons.

Not "impossible" so much as "redundant". There's no point in having 3 ranged attack pets, 2 melees, and 2 tanks. No matter what, people will crunch numbers and decide which pet is the best, then everyone will use that one.

I don't blame them for scrapping the new egis. I do like the glamour concept, though.

I specifically said it wouldn't change how the job plays. Heck, boost our existing skills by 30% (equal to how much those pets deal) and you've already made up most of the difference. The rest is down to Rouse and Spur, which could just as easily be replaced by any generic damage boost.

The only thing that would really hurt it from losing the summons is the fact its fate is tied directly to Scholar. The summons themselves are woefully uninteresting considering they're supposed to be the focus.

The point of the Egi is it's suppose to be what a Summoner is but they implemented like hell.
It's no one else's fault but the dev's to place a summon better than the other one. It was their job to figure out a balance so no summon is left behind.
I also don't like playing Dot Dot goose all damn day either when I can do that on SCH and heal!

I will say these here changes will make people play SMN more, let's face it, that's one of the least played jobs next to MNK.
It's overwhelmingly boring and I hoped for more pets. I've come to accept change and try this new SMN even though I said before I wouldn't.
I'ma wait and see how pet's play later on, but it did need SOMETHING for the time being. Hopefully this fills a bit of fun
for people until they solve the pet situation.

I understand why they decided to not add egis. Fine it's lame, but fine whatever. But why not add new abilities to the current egis? Ifrit 20 sec damage buff, Garuda dot ability, Titan self healing. These are simply, but yet SE decided to completely side line the pets. Scholar is getting an ability that has them interacting with their pet why not SUMMONER?

I'd be much happier with Summoners if the act of Summoning was a visual part of its DPS.
For example, instead of the bolt thing of Ruins present animation, they could have a miniature Ifrit use his Rush on the target (All purely visual of course, the spell remains as is)
Biocould use an image of Garuda doing something to the target.
Miasma could have Titan appear and do something.
Ruin II could have Ramuh throw a bolt of lightning.

Hell, mechanically the Job could remain exactly as it presently is.
But theres a lot of satisfaction to be had in animations.
Wouldn't even have to worry about the flashiness of the spells, personally i only *ever* can see my own animations. Everyone else just waves their hands/weapons about.

Just renaming the current spells and changing their animations to invoke miniature (Mini, NOT Egi) versions of the Primals to deal damage using their signature moves would do wonders.
Maybe don't even have the Egis anymore. Just use Carbuncle (IIRC Isn't Carbuncle a Summon in an older FF anyways?) combined with the proposed Egi Glamour system. Garuda and Titan are just reskinned Blue/Lemon Carbies anyways.
That way we feel more like we're really Summoning and the Egi is just a bonus.

For the Job Quests that currently grant the Egis themselves, simply use that to add that Egi to the Glamour pool.
