well, as it wasn't a screenshot specifically to show the hat, I can't say much about it. I tried looking for something more visible, but I didn't find anyone posting screenshots with this particular hat. I will owe you a better picture

I remember someone posting this image in the early days when we knew about the limitations of vieras. Indeed some hats could just hide the ears, because they are so big that we could imagine that the ears are inside them.

Position and shape of the ears are probably some of the biggest factors to have as an excuse for not making headgear available. Male au ra in particular has some horrific clipping, but since it's on the side of the head, it can be not as bad as viera's could be. I don't really remember what the various male viera ears look like, but, like in that image, female viera have ears that go farther back on the head which would cause the clipping into the hat's brim, but they also have ears that would shoot straight up. I'm sure SE made viera ears varied and customizable due to never planning to do headgear, or hats specifically. With that hat and others they could always miniaturize it too.

I have suggested custom viera variants in the past, but I'm not sure how the community would react to that at this point. I mean, it's a pipe dream that SE would actually do viera specific variants of hats in the first place though.

I just got that hat ingame... and looking it closely I realized that in fact it could work as of today because it completely deletes the hair of the model.

If that was true, then what I feared on a prior page might be true. I will wait until an update comes out with new hair, but this would be awful if it's the case. Also, because it would mean they'd be having to make those shared hairs available later anyway (maybe even thinking that is from an optimistic point of view).

I wont trust anything about anything til patch notes drop and even then I'll still be cutscene skipping thru msq to get to IS faster to check the new Aesthetics myself since they finally deigned to add an "addenum: not usable by viera or hrothgar even though this hair dropped in shb" note to ma items.

It's probably a bigger question if new hairs will be available for hrothgar at first. Maybe, and since they are going back and adding ears, you'd think those hairs would have ears too. I wonder if they would couple viera and hrothgar together again, and just start delaying releases, if it comes to that. We will have to wait and see.

Did they ever say anything about making it possible to more easily add hrothgar ears now, or did they just show a picture of that hair with ears?

I see literally no reason why they cannot make it so bigger hats just hide ears altogether. The smallest possible Viera ears are nowhere as big as to use "they won't fit inside" as a reason.

It's apparently been in the files for a while, probably because it's the ponytail some NPC's have used already. I read it's flagged for every races except Viera (I haven't seen any mention of Hrothgar specifically so while it's technically possible, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume they can't use it either.)

It's possible it'll change before release, but the Lyse hair was found weeks before it released and it was flagged for Viera right off the bat, so I'm not super hopeful.

Seriously, it hasn't even been a week since I was celebrating that S.E. put the hrothgars' ears back, and now this...
The saddest thing is that I can't even be surprised by the incompetence of this company. I really hope they reconsider and fix this new hair for both races (Hrothgar and Viera). But coming from Square Memex, I don't doubt they're just going to do nothing and then come with the famous "sorry, we didn't know you wanted it. We're surprised by the demand!"

That actually makes me angry. Who the hell is making the decisions on this? Like how can they even THINK that it is ok to release something that they can't use as a damn REWARD for a GRIND. I am not surprised...it isnt that, considering that vieras/hrothgar still cant use the BOUGHT hairstyles but jesus f*ck how can they seriously consider releasing it not available to two of the races? Just DON'T release it until you made it compatible with every race??! Not hard to understand...guess I am keeping my fantasia a bit longer.

Probably should wait till next week to say about that one. I mean, datamined stuff may change with the release patch.

I remember back then when people on reddit posted the datamined maid outfit working for males, but they didn't have the butler outfit working for girls. When it finally got released, both versions worked.

I'm hoping this is the case at the worst, and at best they're reworking how the hair/hat system works for 7.0 so both races never have to wait again for their hats/hair.

Its hard to determine whats up with that hair because it lacks a viera number (buns have their own file numbering), lacks an icon, and also lacks a male counterpart while not being unisex. The Lyse hair was patched in complete back before it was released. As is, this hair new file is not complete.

I really don't know about hats, hats has been pretty status quo. Hair on the other hand, is something they have made compromises for. I'd rather not wait until 7.0 for new hairs.. especially if they are going to be more shared hairs of questionable quality. I hope that isn't the case.

I honestly want to know in what world did they think having Viera and Hrothgar released as they did was a good idea. Did they really think people would be perfectly fine with the limitations? If so they were EXTREMELY misinformed. I get it's a lot of work to make a new race, let alone 2, but if they couldn't get it right I would rather they didn't do it at all until they could get it right. I honestly want female Hrothgar to work out but honestly, I do not trust them to do them right either.

Hopefully they focus more on hairstyles than headgear. It is a shame the lack of hairstyles available for viera and hrothgar.

Even though I deeply want every single Modern Aesthetic to work THIS EXPANSION yknow I went into CC the other day and hrothgar only have 5 options. Their base face options, their base face options again but slightly different, and Emmanellain. Viera have 21 styles. That's so so SO depressing for anyone who buys the game specifically to play as a hrothgar. They need to let hrothgar actually use all their race-specific styles regardless of face type and then also add more universal styles so hrothgar character creation isnt so damn bleak, especially because hrothgar (and viera) do not have the luxury of enjoying a free trial and races you have pay2play as should be better. Much much muuuuuuuuuuuch better.

The worst thing is that, as far as I know, they don't warn you about the limitations within the game.

So imagine you coming to play this game in the free trial, liking hrothgar or viera and ending up buying the game to be able to play with them, not understanding much about why to have less hair in the options, but you were told that you enable more within the game, so you keep going, and when you get real, you realize you won't have your hair unlocked, let alone your hats. It's a frustrating situation, mainly because you have to either end ARR in order to change, or pay for it.

For some people, waiting to change races, paying for an item in a monthly fee-based game, or creating a new character and starting all over again may mean nothing. But I guarantee that there are people who take character customization and appearance very seriously (myself included), that the dollar is not that cheap for the country's currency (myself included too), or that you won't want to start from zero because it sucks you want to reach a goal, and have to start over (I've already tried to create an alt about 5 times, but I always give up because I'm 90 levels away from getting everything unlocked).

I turned Viera already knowing that the company sucks, but I can't stop thinking about those who didn't, since my friend created a Hrothgar and ended up frustrated (and I had already warned him about the restrictions, but he thought I was exaggerating)

If male viera is anything to go by (which I've read people say don't have the same restrictions female viera had), female hrothgar may come a bit less limited, or at least more easily updated than male hrothgar. You'd think so at least. If they went back and added ears, you'd assume shared hairs that work on them would have ears as well. Who knows though, like I have said before, SE will have to earn my trust with these races.

That's good to know, since it's only been on NPC's so far is this how NPC-only hair normally shows up? Other than Lyse's hair I believe this is the only other hairstyle they've released so far in EW so it'd be an odd (but not entirely shocking) choice to not make it compatible.

I wonder what the "Jenomis" hair will be as well as his actual hairstyle is already a MGP hairstyle.

As someone pointed out Jenomis Lexentails hair is just the male Adventure hair and that hair is available for like nothing mgp so...who can say? Only like 3 men in the game have unique hair those being Hien, Elpis-Selch and Hyth. And if they were gonna add Hiens, finally, itd probably be under the "highponytail" as a genderspecific variant. Theyre never gonna go back and add it to Hiens cashshop outfit, if they were theyve had years to do it.

I actually do hope Hiens is male hpt and hrothgar get it. His hair is the best thing about him lmao

I just want Hildas tbh, for all races but it looks amazing on viera and has been asked for, for years now. It probably is the tiny ponytail being added which I feel is so underwhelming considering there are better ponytails in the game already. I again wish they would just be more transparent about this. Nothin was mentioned this LL and while the release is only a week away I am worried that it again will be a disappointment to not be able to play my favourite race without tremendous limitations.

That would be nice but I honestly can't see them giving out a unique NPC hairstyle like that when they're pretty much exclusively Mogstation. I agree they'll probably never go back and add his hairstyle to the current outfit, but I could see them giving him a new outfit at some point and bundling the hair with that instead.

I feel like the shorter, wavy ponytail would be Highponytail (or whatever they end up officially calling it) but no idea what Jenomis could be.

The main benefit now seems to be that they have higher quality models and textures than other races, but with the 7.0 graphical update that's going to get flipped if they don't also update the Viera and Hrothgar models.
I'm not looking forward to the probable 7.0 situation where Viera and Hrothgar both have lower quality models and textures than other races, and then also can't use any of the headgear SE releases.

why is the forehead still gigantic T_T it's amazing but can't they lower the hairline some ffs why do the hairstyles we work and pay money for make character's head look like lightbulbs. same with other races too not just viera

This has always been one of my big complaints with the shared hairstyles. Quite often it looks like the hair was designed based on one race, and then it's poorly stretched and fitted onto all the others. I know it's not going to change, but I would love if they'd take the time to tweak each style so that it better fits each face shape. ._.

I've seen it on female Viera and it looked fine, I think it just looks bigger because of the pale skin and thin, white eyebrows.

It's definitely a problem with several other shared hairstyles on Viera though where it looks like they forgot to glue their wig down and it's slipping.

Long hair, sure. I like it too, would generally look good on viera, probably needs bangs though. That hair? Not really my favorite, it should eventually be done though. I do wonder how the end product will look after SE has done it, forehead wise.

I think this is the case, too. I think they are using Midlander versions as the base, and going from there. For instance, if you look on the sides for Lightning's hair when it is worn by Viera, there are visible gaps for ears. The same happens with the Controlled Chaos hair; on its shorter side, the hair looks like it is being tucked behind a nonexistent ear. These two examples, of course, are not as obvious as the 2b hair:

Au Ra also won't be updated. But don't be surprised. They haven't mentioned the three expansion races. Them not saying anything hints at it; I'd be more surprised if suddenly they said "No, actually, we're doing it to expansion-locked races as well, Au Ra included".

Them "confirming by lack of info" is a recurring trend, even when it's a positive. E.g. the Hrothgar hairstyles situation: they just showed us the Snow hairstyle with ears without any comment.

And if I'm allowed the tangent on that aspect: I'm honestly really pleased with Square addressing those hairstyles, even if silently. It's clear they at least realized that yes, people are indeed accepting of clipping rather than them randomly removing ears. Though, we don't know if this will apply to every hairstyle or just the Snow one. I just wish other players didn't jump it on this one ^^;
From what I've seen on this thread, especially at the time the news dropped, most Hrothgars were like "Oh, cool!" while other players, predominantly Viera-avatared ones, were like "this is nothing, I'm not pleased". Ironic that I'd be the one to say this, but those players should calm down. The majority of Hrothgar players expected absolutely nothing from them past 6.1, especially after their silence in the face of the attention it garnered, so them doing anything at all is surprising. To us, it isn't "nothing". It's small, very small, and it may feel from the outside that we're settling for less. But keep in mind how Hrothgar players so far have been patient and their voices have been rather quiet up until April 1st. As much as people insist we're on the same boat, we're not, so what little we get, we're happy for it. Naturally we wish it were different, and of course we view it as them having a long way to go. So don't mistake our contentment as settling. Because so far, the least has been zero :| My point is... it wasn't for you, it was for us. Our opinion should be valued, over that of those this change won't affect. And while we're obviously asking for a bit more than "give us our ears back", at the end of the day a win's a win. And if they heard us juuust enough to do this for us, even if begrudgingly >w>, then they might listen to you guys and do better in the future. Especially since, as Adamantini has pointed out, I've seen a good handful of Male Viera who want flowy long hair. And we will, or should, support you so that can happen.

Until then, may Hrothgars also get the stuff that they need to be seen as equals to everyone else, and may Viera ears actually work and get the headgear they deserve.
