The 2-3 hours is based on his many previous interviews where he mentioned he wanted FFXIV to be casual for those who can only play 2-3 hours still have a chance to get what the whole game has to offer. Not specicially said on the housing post he made. Either way expecting all FC members to put in the entire earnings into the FC pool for the housing for 3 month is kinda silly too. :p

This is very disappointing to me...there should be no real need to have these prices set so high unless you just don't want many players to have housing yet....I think this is another time sink to let them "catch up" with what they are doing. If you they are not ready for something to come out they should just not put it out yet. All they keep saying is that there is not enough memory for stuff like FATE LOGS etc... yet that is nothing compared to how much housing memory would take up. So I think they do not have the infrastructure yet to handle a ton of people with houses.

How about this then:


If people saw nothing wrong with the housing prices, then more would be sold. You don't need 'people complaining on forums...or stats' People vote with their time and gil. If the gil isn't being spent on this content...then there must be a reason why.
And the only plausible reasons are:
1. People aren't interested in FC housing, and SE wasted time developing it
2. People think the prices are too high for what you get and are:
-Waiting for them to come down a bit and then bite
-Purposefully NOT buying them until SE fairly prices them (basically what's happening on Legacy Servers)
3. People really don't have enough money to buy a house/their desired house on their server.

So, you don't need forum complainers and neither does SE. SE can see that 1 week after this content has launched, on one of the Largest NA servers, only one Medium House has been sold...and THAT one only sold so they could be 'world first'. And that the same thing is happening across ALL legacy servers 0-3 houses bought across the whole entire world...

But yeah you're right. The majority of the players see nothing wrong with the pricing and are willing to lay down 10-20 Million for a house that wouldn't even fit my Wolf Pup...that's why so many houses are being built. Oh wait...

The FC in question only has 52 members and has changed leaders twice whilst being created this month. My guess is the former leader was the Gil buying character which handed the cash over then was deleted after transferring leadership.. but that's my guess with no proof.

This is exactly what I said. The excuse that they weren't ready is fine. But not being honest they weren't ready and instead releasing something that is a slap to the face for many people who were looking forward to housing is just plain ludicrous.

Yes - that's the way to deal with the issue - HIDE (from) it. Well done! At least we know now that all the reps didn't performed harakiri as they're all busy censoring forums instead.

I've been following this thread for a while now, and I too am incredibly crushed by these prices. The question that I would like to see answered is: How could it negatively impact SE if 80% of the FCs out there COULD afford housing? Start building communities, spending time gathering and crafting together. Why the wait? I agree with past comments; gathering gil is not a skill, it is merely time consuming. I am proud of my Company's ability to save and donate 10M gil since 2.0 launched, but we weren't told housing wouldn't be accessible to 99% of the community day one. "Please look forward to looking forward to it."

I understand that you're upset about housing prices. I am, too. But I wonder that you can't see why your post was deleted? It was very accusatory and inflammatory in a thread that was nothing more than the Community Reps wishing us all a Merry Christmas and letting us know that they will be out of the office until after Christmas. I don't think there was any need to post something negative or mean in that thread, no matter how upset we are about the housing situation, and especially considering that Community Reps have absolutely no control over the housing prices. It's important to remember that this is a game, but there are real people behind the forum posters - including the Community Reps.

All indicators point to the low amount of current housing being completely intentional. The price scale may need a bit adjusting, but still completely intentional.

You people who are complaining the most are being very shortsighted in your complaints. Mainly, if housing was actually as affordable as many of you want it to be, then Square would have a second issue on their hands, being nobody can have a house because the space is all bought up. In an amount of time, the cost system will probably have served its function, and FCs will actually have housing. People who can't wait will have one as well. As time passes, most FCs will be in possession of one.

Then, newcomers to the game won't even know about these issues because it won't even be an issue anymore. But then there's the timeline where the costs are made much more lenient, 99% of the playerbase has access to it day one, and a bunch of really annoying problems crop up that become FAR more difficult to solve than the current one.

Server stress is not an issue with the housing system, I cannot believe so many people are twisting the description of the system around like that. It's not creating random instances, it's designed around itself. 100% of the housing being used would not create any stress the feature wasn't already designed around.

I can't believe people think this is a ploy to drag out subscription services. I think Square Enix has made some stupid, horrible, completely terrible decisions in the last 7 years (cough-->FFXIII<--cough), but even I wouldn't insult their intelligence like that. It doesn't even make sense to describe it as one.

I personally don't think infinite instancing is more appealing than the system they have now, mainly because it's just a more refreshing approach to the housing idea. That's just a matter of preference. I do not agree with the idea of changing their design of the game just because people complain that it isn't like other games. That has got to be one of the biggest creative flaws of this recent generation of gaming, and i'm tired of seeing it happen because companies fold to the loudest child, or are just too paranoid to do something else.

The issue isn't with the current space, it's with the hypothetical extra space they'd need if everyone on the server instantly bought up all the land plots. Comparing FFXIV to a completely different game that has a similar feature is not an argument. Especially if it's an older MMO.

It's impossible to really tell if FFXIV's current housing system architecture is a result of FFXIV's packet usage, or Square's limited netcode knowledge. But in regards to this issue, it really doesn't matter either way.

The only complaints I really sympathize with are the Legacy Server people, but that's only because i'm not a legacy player and have no clue how their economy works. But to the people who:

a) say this is a shifty subscription gimmick
b) say this is a technical issue coverup
c) feel entitled to day-1 100% accessible personal housing for all players

Then I really side with Square on this one. All of these "ONLY PLASUABLE REASONS" just sound ridiculous, and really only seem to be based around assumptions about SE based on, what im guessing anyway, are previous bad experiences. The pricing on other servers may need some tweaks, but I'm totally behind everything else.

Brynhildr, Behemoth, Cactuar, Faerie, you players, PLEASE, please, for the love of all things holy, just LOOK at the prices on Durandal.

LOOK AT THEM!

Behemoth and Cactuar, your BIGGEST HOUSE in the BEST PLOT OF LAND costs 125,000,000. The lowest class plot of land and a MIDDLE sized house cost 150,000,000 on Durandal.

Brynhildr, your BIGGEST HOUSE in the BEST PLOT OF LAND costs 62,500,000. Players on Durandal have to amass almost 2 1/2 times that amount to afford the lowest quality plot of land and a MEDIUM house. And SMALL houses on Durandal START at 40 million. For 10 million more, on YOUR server, we could buy a LARGE house.

Are you not understanding this pricing difference? Are you not looking at the prices for any worlds other than your own?????

Let's try a thought exercise here. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Step One: Visit the 2.1 patch notes here - http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...7af43f3c43828a

Step Two: Ctrl+f and type in devaluation. This should pop you right to the area where the housing prices start.

Step Three: This is the important one people, LOOK at the prices on the most expensive servers.

Step Four: This is apparently the most challenging, and difficult step of all. PRETEND you were on that server.

If you can't do that, stop coming in this thread and telling us we're whining, want instant gratification or crying over some imagined insult.

EDIT: Better yet, TRANSFER your character to Durandal or even Balmung. I'll buy you an Ultimate Game Card and mail it to the address of your choice so you can add Crysta to your account and pay for the transfer. Transfer to Durandal or Balmung on my dime and then tell me housing prices are fair. If you admit, on the forums, that you were wrong and that prices need to be adjusted. I'll send you ANOTHER Ultimate Game Card so you can transfer back to your cheap server.

Housing system is not in persistent overworld, it is instance here. Instancing in the first place is there to prevent people from running out of access... I also thought they didn't have this issue in FFXI, no?

It's instanced in the fact that it's run separate from the overworld, but it's different in that each instanced home is on an "overworld" type area that supports many players and many homes. I assume they were going for a "real life neighborhood" type gig. Instead of creating an instanced house and a few players and occasional visitors, it creates an instanced "town" that loads whatever houses are present in that area, along with any players who happen to be there, along with any players who happen to just be strolling by.

It's not quite the same as your typical MMORPG housing system. If every FC house was in its own, singular instanced area, then yeah I don't think we'd have this issue. But we do, because it isn't designed that way.

I disagree. I don't think we're being "shortsighted" at all.

When we were originally told about housing, Yoshi said that when one housing zone filled up, another would be opened up. That there was no "limit" on the number of housing areas, so everyone would eventually get a house. That this has now apparently changed is not our fault - we (everyone, really) were going on what we were told.

I've actually had friends that I was trying to lure to the game say they weren't interested after they saw the housing situation. I've also had newcomers to my FC who have asked why we don't have a house, and when we explain the pricing and those issues, they were rather distressed. I mean, it's just ducky to go wander around a housing area, staring at plots you'll never be able to afford. That sure is great advertising to newer players who are not yet committed to a subscription! :)

Except that is what Yoshi said. He said that they simply don't have the server infrastructure to support more wards than we currently have in place, and they are having to work on adding more.

The houses themselves are separate instances. No, the yards are not, but the interiors of the houses are separate instances.

Except the initial design was to be unlimited. It was stated several times that their concept was that once a zone filled up, a new one would be created. On top of that they have addressed it as an issue of hardware and they are working towards making new zones.

They aren't changing it because of people's complaints, they are changing it to strive towards what they have always wanted it to be. If you can't see this, it means you haven't been paying attention to the live letters from the beginning.

Not sure why, but we started to craft various pieces of furniture. We now have several stacks of Firewood (just in case), a Riviera Stall, some Riviera Windows, an Astroscope, a couch and a Crofter's Wain to look at.
Maybe it'll be a motivation... but at the moment I really doubt it.

It is really depressing that you are able to craft all these cool types of furniture but do not have a place to put it =(

Some stiff competition coming up with games like EQLandmark and Wildstar. EQLandmark you get to build whatever type of house your want, Wildstar has free housing as well as a whole character class set of skills based purely on House development. The WoW expansion has free housing where you can own an entire Fort.

Will be interesting to see how the player base fairs once those games are out.

I thought money was suppose to be easier to make after the patch but seems harder.

1) More philos = cheaper crafted gear.

2) Drops from mobs increased. Karakuls drop 9 fleece often now and I heard you can buy it from beastmen dallies.

3)Materia cost going down. Savage aim 3 was less than 20k awhile ago.

Even if a deal will benefit the recipient, people will reject the deal if they feel that benefit is not enough. This has been proven in studies. One study students were given a drink that made them more thirsty. Researchers then told each student that they were paired up with another thirsty person who was given a bottle of water and asked to divided it in two glasses. One glass had 1/4 the water of the other glass and the first student was told that was their glass(less water) and it was up to them to make a choice. They both drink or neither drinks. Which do you think people chose?

Legacy housing prices are unfair. People won't buy now, they'll wait until they feel the price is fair. No amount of arguing will change how either side feels.

I hate how right now only the jp thread has a chance of eliciting any new response until January. Bad prices are still bad, and the action itself raises questions on whether we should expect similar disparities in in future content.

I think the thing is, SE sees this as a way to make housing relevant and have some importance for the community. The problem is that the people that they have catered to, are not really the good people who would use this housing for that purpose. The fact that housing was based on individual funds made being a whale the answer.... Is being a whale in a MMO the answer we want to foster? At the end of the day, this has only really stripped away that cushy layer of loyalty I sometimes have for a company. I will continue to play the game because I don't have another game lined up right now. The key is, now I'm looking.

My only problem with any of this is that they didnt want anyone buying up "all" the land. Why not just limit the amount of plots an FC can own to 1? Seems like a much simpler solution imo

Legacy players paid a subscription to SE for 1.0. Our fees were a drop in the bucket in financing the remake but we showed loyalty to SE and the FFXIV team. We have been rewarded with a few minor perks, but we are being punished with the abusively high housing system's scaled pricing. Most Legacy players don't have 10s or 100s of millions of gil, we did things like level DoW & DoM and didn't focus on stockpiling gil. A small percentage did yet we are all lumped together.

I read Yoshi's post and each and every point was specious at best. Anyone with a modicum of common sense can see the holes in his reasoning and come up with less abusive alternatives.

I'm tired to my very bones of seeing replies from people on cheap servers who think the prices are fair or fine.

I'm tired of having people come in to the housing threads with the sole intent of trying to take apart our arguments and nitpick points and opinions to death.

I'm sick to my very soul that it has become an impossible thing to have empathy for someone else.

Yeah, it's just a video game, and yeah, I am upset about the housing prices. But I've become exponentially more upset at the human responses on the forums. Instead of looking at all of the housing prices and hearing our situations, people are giddy that it doesn't affect them and are taking pleasure in seeing the misfortune of others.

That is really sad and disheartening.

If you've been part of this thread, and want to keep it going in the hopes that the pricing will be fixed sooner, rather than 'eventually' then keep up the good fight.

Thus has a very poorly thought out and implemented design decision began to divide what was, in the beginning, a really fun community.

Jumping into FFXIV ARR again was inspiring and exiciting, it was fun. It's becoming less so now as more and more bad design decisions are introduced that serve to set the community at each others throats.

Most of the other students in my Human Services class hated the poor... I swear that the word "entitlements" gets thrown around so much that people have forgotten what it means. When you're entitled to something, you deserve it. In a bitterly ironic twist, the word now means the exact opposite, getting or wanting something you haven't worked for and don't deserve. It is one of a plethora of sentiments used to trivialize another person's feelings like telling someone they hold a minority view or that they're just being too sensitive.

When it comes to FFXIV housing specifically, housing was a big selling point of 2.1, but now we find out that very few players will get to experience this content in the near future and it's as though some sort of trickery was used on us. While the content is technically in 2.1, most of us won't get to experience it until 2.2 or even later. Whether one is happy or disappointed by housing costs all depends on personal opinion but that this is yet another fail on SE's part seems much more indisputable. Game and patch releases should be met with excitement not disappointment.

For the most part, I am happy with 2.1 overall, but the feelings that I and many other players have over housing are not the kind of feelings you should seek to generate if you want people to continue playing your game. Call us "entitled" if you want but that won't do anything to fix the problem and if we quit, who will you have to lord your mansions over?

Gear should be worked for, gear is a reward. Housing is not JUST a reward, it is also content, a mini-game that most players can't play. It is probably useless as this point to offer this as a suggestion but all FCs should be able to have a shack for very little work (and therefore have access to the mini-game that is part of the bigger game that they are paying to play) and the work should go into building a bigger house and decorating it, not having it in the first place.

In every RPG you advance from level 1-99 , it seems strange to me that housing has no advancement. There is no way to upgrade your plot. Either you buy a large or you never get one. I really think they should have made all plots upgradable from small to large, cost would be irrelevant. Atleast you would have something to build up. As it is now it's just a gil race to see who can "raise" the most at the expense of the rest of the community. Wouldn't a FC house, a group of players working as a team, have some way to pull together to afford a house? There should be some way the FC can work towards credit for the house without it just being a gil sink. IMO

This is the game for you: WILDSTAR HOUSING I would have liked to see similar for this game, perhaps a quest chain or even just dailies that the whole FC could do to help get a house, but clearly that is not going to happen. Unfortunately.

If nothing else, can we get some clarifications from SE:

1. You said that in 3 months, All Legacy worlds could have 'World 3 prices'. But you did not actually specify if you meant 'World 3 prices at that moment' or 'World 3 max prices would now be our Minimum prices'.
Be more clear on this...because while we really under no circumstances should have to wait 3 months for 'fairer prices', at least knowing the exact amounts we need to save over the coming 2-3 months would be nice.
2. Can ALL Housing features be added to ALL sized homes/plots? Before we go dropping Millions of gil on a plot of land, it really WOULD be good to know what we are buying.
3. If someone buys a plot, do ALL plots of that size reset their price points? (People on 'cheap' servers might know this answer....but being on a world where only one house has even sold...I really can't figure this out).

This is what i would love to see here, or atleast something close to it. i mean come on atm housing has absolutely no benefits besides the "oh look we own a house". There is NO beneficial reason to buy a house period.

You know what woulda made me happier. If SE just said upfront " Hey guys housing just isnt right yet so we are going to delay it. So that it can be what you all have come to expect of us!". If they said that i would be a little sad because of the delay yes, but i would be proud to be here knowing the Devs are working for us and not trying to cover up mistakes.
