Yeah I honestly dont understand how they are like "but we dont know how to do one" when they never cared for our opinions about Au Ra or even Ronsos. Either they have their own vision and this is liked or not or they use ingame surveys or even official polls in the forum to get some ideas. It just shows how behind they are with such things.

Also already over 1.300 likes. Wow never thougth to ever see that many likes for one post. Even the female ronso thread has nearly 1k likes. Hopefully that is enough to make them change their opinion and hopefully we wont have to wait another full expansion for it.

Gender locking is a dumb move!

I hope if the do add Male viera one clan is the tall manly type and the other is the small cute type!

I hope more people continue to post within this and the female Hrothgar thread rather than create their own, it makes the argument for these genders stronger with a larger page and like count!

Remember, there will be many more expansions to come. The idea that removing the gender lock is unfeasible due to limited development resources is therefore not true. Money can be moved around, projects changed, and timelines shifted.

It's a question of priorities and not resources. We need to keep the demand tempo for both genders high enough so that Square realizes this is a top priority and not an afterthought or a flex goal.

Just kind of funny how much attention this is producing even though when Viera was first released in FF tactics advanced. It was literally introduced as a female only race. This whole argument about gender race locking in a mmo or any game with back lore estabilished then changed to appease the few is so silly. Can't people just enjoy a game anymore just for the entertainment value? Times like this make me miss the 90's when games were all about gameplay, and not reliant on appeasing the few on graphics, and such.

Please Mr. Yoshida. Give us male Viera and female Hrothgar!

People throwing literal tantrums and threatening Yoshida and the other members of the Dev Team because they didn't get their way. You guys ought to be ashamed of yourselves, and if this is the way you're going to behave, maybe you should reconsider going somewhere more your age group. At the end, this is a game, but most people come here to have a good time and escape--and screaming and crying and threatening people because you didn't get EXACTLY what you wanted is utterly childish.

Yes, people who are transgender or going through gender dysphoria are having a rough road IRL across the globe for a number of social/political reasons too complicated to get into. (If you don't know for yourself, I recommend going to YouTube and looking up the Channel "ContraPoints." It's good to be educated, even if you're not going through these things yourself! Compassion and understanding help the world move forward!)
But a company halfway around the world, that has been around for nearly 30 years, didn't rub their hands together in one division and decide to give you all the middle finger. They're not attacking you, so PLEASE, stop taking the game so g0ddamn SERIOUSLY. Nobody's attacking you here. In fact, in the most polite way I can say this? Most people here on Final Fantasy XIV hardly care what gender you identify as, or who you love, as long as you're not acting like an @ss--and unfortunately a lot of people ARE acting like that.

Those people screeching that they're not paying their subs because they didn't get their way makes me think of a toddler throwing a tantrum. Y'all should be ashamed and embarrassed. Lord knows the rest of us are when we read your...opinions. There's a line between asking better and asking more from your hard-working Development Team, and being a spoiled, whiny child, and a **TON** of people are toeing that line. A lot more are stomping all over it.

Makes me think we don't deserve it tbh. I wouldn't give a classroom candy if 2/3rds of them were threatening my family and screeching like banshees because they didn't get something exactly the way they wanted it.
I support Male Viera, but not for the people SCREAMING that "u DoNt SuPpOrT mY gEnDeR iDeNtItY" and certainly not for the people who have been slamming their fists on the table demanding Viera since early 2.1. As far as I'm concerned, those guys are acting like spoiled brats.

Over 1000 upvotes in less than a week though, and that's considering that a huge part of the playberbase don't really use the forums. If this isn't enough feedback for SE on top of the dozens of tweets, discord discussions, thousand+ upvotes and coments on reddit and the huge amount of youtube videos and gaming articles in regards to male Viera and female Hrothgar, then I don't know what else they want to be sure the playerbase would like the missing genders.

Of course we will probably have more expansions and with this feedback there is a much higher chance to get the two missing genders in the next one. But at least for me, the one expansion after shadowbringers is over two years away. Thats two years where I (who wants to play a female beast race) will see the male version running around while knowing that I cant play the female version of it. And it really dampers my motivation to keep up the sub. And its not helping that we now know that the Viera was the afterthought and not the Ronsos. Thus the dream of a female beast character could have finally become true, only to be destroyed by a sexy bunny girl. (Not that I blame the players that wanted those)

Honestly, its quite strange to find that viera had only come in so recently. Considering how much i have seen Viera talked about, Even over a beast race specifically.
Loving beast races quite a lot, i am a bit disappointed with the Hrothgar So i think that may push me away. But i think Viera would have made a better beast race if they had chosen to go down that path. They are well suited for it.

I think some people like to use it to shut down an argument if its not to their liking. I do remember some posters that had no problem bringing up something they dont like but as soon as they liked something and the forum raised a lot of negative voices against it, they went into the topic and said that its just a vocal minority. I dont take that seriously anymore. First we cant know who the majority truly is because the forum is a minority in itself. But the forum also often showed that topics that created huge negative impact on the forum was often something that reflected in the game too. Be it housing or Diadem and even recent ones like Eureka or Blue. There some loved to point out how only the forum disliked it yet the lucky bancho numbers painted quite the good picture on this. (Low participation numbers) Heck the recent Mr Happy interview has Yoshida saying that he was surprised how many people wanted the old relic quest back.

And now after some told us that again we are just the minority that cares for genderlocks we see threads like the male viera one with over 1.3k likes, which is probably the most liked post ever made, and even the one for female ronso is near the 1k.

I also thought that the Viera would be the one that comes first and that we might never get a beastly race. So I truly was surprised that we would have gotten the beastly race before the Viera and now I am even more sad that this is now just half the race too..

Showing my support for this too, I'm really hoping that both male Viera and female Hrothgar will become available as playable races at some point :)

Because there's hundreds of thousands of people who play the game and nowhere near all of them are on the forums.

I mean yeah, it's kind of the first thing you encounter in the game, and is what the final fantasy series prides itself on. Good first impressions are really important. ie: me and a bunch of my friends passed over 1.0 because of the genderlocks, and played ARR because they removed them.

The forums are a microcosm of the community. For every vocal player on the forums there are likely hundreds or thousands with similar opinions but without the need to vocalize themselves.

We have no way of knowing if the majority of the playerbase wants or doesn't want female Hrothgar/male Viera; but one could assume since the majority of vocal players on the forums do seem to want them, you can reasonably extrapolate that feeling being true of the majority of the non-vocal part of the community. "Vocal minority"assumes that only those who are vocal hold the stated opinion, which isn't true.

This is the most voted thread in the forum ever made, not even the bow mage issue were this sought after.

If you took even a bit of your time to went through some of the posts, even just a little bit, not only you'd find all the answers you need but you would've noticed how many are making an account to join to fray.

So, the official forums behaving as rappresentative slice shows well that it's not a vocal minority at all. The people against this requests made a thread and a poll, they even reached 100. Here we are at 1300+, 2500+ in the poll and there's even a Japanese thread dedicated to this. I let you make the calculation of what this % means.

Amount of times people bring up genderlocks in 1.0, you'd think that wasn't the last thing that was wrong with the game. Most people who played 1.0 came from XI and thus did not care. Instead problems came from performing like garbage, playing like garbage, and just being poorly designed as a whole which are reflections of gameplay rather than aesthetics almost as if gameplay is something that rightfully should be put over aesthetics.

Vocal minority is always used as an argument to shut people down and belittle their opinions. Not everyone who wants male Viera is sitting here on the forums screaming, many of them silently just left. My entire friend group is incredibly disappointed and many haven't logged in since, but not a single one of them have posted on the forums or upvoted this thread. How many more people have done this? I've seen in many discords some people say "aw no male bunnies" to get absolutely reamed by others saying "HAHA NO ONE CARES ABOUT MALE BUNNIES! YOU'RE SO STUPID! BASED SE FOR STANDING UP TO THE SJWS". No wonder that a lot of people just want to stay silent even though they are disappointed and/or hurt.

To say that this whole situation is irrelevant and everyone who isn't stalking the forums 24/7 agree with genderlock is very small minded.

While it might be true that this request is that of a minority, but the fact that this thread has exploded with more responses than that of the 1.0 thread in a shorter amount of time speaks volumes.

And regardless if this is only a small segment or not the team can easily look at the threads statistics and compare that to the overall game population and make their extrapolations from there.

While it does not interest me directly as I will always be Elezen, there are enough friends and fellow FC members that want to play Male Viera that I would fully support this change. I am a big fan of choice and having Male and Female Viera is a good choice in my opinion.

It would be rather absurd to see 10000+ likes on the OP, as forums and even reddit were never that active. Ofcourse we do not resemble the whole community, but we still do complete every faction by a bit. People that support, are neutral but also people that defend genderlock.
You can take your own guess how many of which faction are represented. And I do think its quiet clear that the supporters (with a mix of neutral people) do not like genderlocks.
The forums is indeed a sample of the whole community, thus feedback is (imo) valid.

What people don't seem to realize is the forums act as a "sample size". Yes, this thread is upvoted 1300 times or so and when you compare that to active users it may seem small, but what you should instead be comparing it to is active forum users. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to find that data, but the forums work as a good "sample size". You can assume that, say, if there were 10,000 active forum users then we have 13% of our sample size supporting this idea. We can extend that to the actual playerbase of 237,561 (NA active player census) and say that there's approximately 30,882 unhappy players by the decision in north america alone. That's a healthy number.

But, I don't know numbers for the active users of this forum so I can't actually say.

I support male Viera!!! Jacked cat-men are cool and all but it's hard to support the whole gender-locking thing as I personally find it exclusive and a bad business practice, especially in 2019.

Characterization is gameplay.

One thing for supporters of gender choice to keep in mind is that time is of the essence. The longer FFXIV continues to develop without introducing Male Viera (and Female Hrothgar), the less likely it becomes that they will ever be released, because Square's primary excuse for not introducing them becomes a larger problem as more and more wearables are created.

If Square at all, ever, plans to introduce Male Viera and Female Hrothgar, the sooner the better. I think that they of course understand this, and have decided to never release Male Viera and Female Hrothgar. This is a big problem for many different reasons, including Square not understanding harmful gender constructs. In creating a female-locked Viera whose reveal was highly sexualized and a male-locked Hrothgar that has a He-Man physique, they have broadcasted that women should be like x and men should be like y. They haven't so much created new races as they have created roles, where players are expected to conform to a patriarchal and dated understanding of gender roles.

Given that developmental complexity will only increase, Square has likely made the decision to never introduce Male Viera and Female Hrothgar. But that doesn't mean they can't be persuaded to change their decision. Square is a business, and if they see that their business is not meeting customer expectations to the point it's hurting potential profits, then they will change. Keeping the noise high and frequent will go a long way to helping them understand, and the game will be better for it.

Final Fantasy XIV gives exposition to the elusive male viera, who are virtually identical at birth to females; only upon maturing they are able to be identified gender wise. Male viera return to the village to collect the male children who reach puberty to teach them the ways of the hunt. They live in separate settlements and only communicate with the females when needing to mate, trade or collect the male adolescences. The male viera are secretive, vicious, skilled hunters and are so well adapted to living in viera forests no one aside from female viera has ever seen one.
