You're free to believe as such. I do not.

I like playing tall male characters so I was hoping they'd be taller. They're not, so I have little interest in them...which is a personal preference. Hardly anything to get worked up about, in my opinion.

Average height for males in the UK is 5ft 9in, max height bunny men would be considered tall for us Theo so this feels more like a petty thing that the fantasy race doesn't have the males taller than the females for once despite being able to be considered tall by rl standards that surround you.

I don't see how it's 'petty'. It's a personal preference. I didn't want them to go in such a direction but they did and it is what it is. I most certainly aren't going to lose any sleep over it, though it does make me raise an eyebrow that niche aesthetics are actively embraced often for male characters whereas we still haven't had any of the conventional requests for character customisation embraced and added to the game.

Namely stubble for Midlander men and the other playable races that could make it work.

Not that it matters but I'm six foot two myself. I like playing tall men in games with character customisation.

No, I don't plan to do that. I've only ever switched between a Midlander, Raen and Xaela. Highlander very briefly, though the lack of eyebrows proved too jarring for me. The other options aren't to my liking, which includes Viera men.

Very happy with male Viera. They look amazing, loved the hairstyles they showed off. Satisfied with the height as well, refreshing to get a default shorter male compared to female.
Now if only I could get my hands on the benchmark-

Meh, the boys should be taller. I will be max height anyway so I will be taller than most of the ladies, but it bugs me to have the males shorter, because it feels like they shouldn't be.

For male viera? Not anywhere near as much as you seem to be implying. Viera were contenders for being implemented back in 3.0 (if you have the HW art book theres a page or 2 with the concepts), the art team has had ideas of what male viera should look like for a long, long time. From there they just needed to come up with something Yoshi approved. He said in the past they they'd be a cross between male miqote and male elezen. Look at the benchmark preview- male viera very much fall between male miqote and male elezen.

Also, about the height thing? My husband is shorter than I am irl, so I don't see the issue.
A great deal of us female Viera players play at min height (mine is min height) so as long as you set your male to the tallest possible, then you'd still be taller than a lot of the female Viera out there.

Adding the aesthetics hairstyles would actually be a great boon for Viera, since many of those are the more popular ones.

Awesome, I'm glad that they changed things up a little and let the guys be shorter than the girls. It's not my thing but a lot of my friends are happy about this, so I'm glad they did it.

the unlockable ones should take priority anyway

My only issue with the male height is that I wanted my male and female Viera to be the same height as they're meant to be mirror images of one another. But oh well, that was the gamble I took when making a max height female, so I'll just make a max height male and deal with it; it's literally not that big a deal that a fantasy race has females be a touch taller than the males. I mean, biologically they already behave differently from humans, so...

Also, if we can at least use the unlockable hairstyles and mog station hairstyles that'd be a great addition, and something that was really lacking from Vanilla Viera and Hroth (poor Hroths seem to have gotten the short end of the stick, though? I saw nothing announced for them).

Heck yeah, every time a new hairstyle was released for the other races, I had been tempted to fantasia, but no longer! (hopefully).
Form and Function, Greater Lengths, and Samsonian Locks would look pretty damn good on Viera, I should think. I miss them so bad T^T

I'm always tempted to fantasia so no big deal for me. I just hope future modern aesthetics styles will also be made for viera, so they won't be left out of those releases. Who knows what else we might get in future?

Niche aesthetics tend to get more embraced because they are niche, they rarely happen thus when they do happen people gravitate towards them as more interesting, you could probably count on your hands how many MMOs have a single race of theirs have the max height male be shorter than the max height female, it is very uncommon to have such a thing.

6ft 1in is not considered short in the majority of the world flat out a max height Male Viera would be considered tall worldwide just in the fantasy world of FFXIV they are shorter than than half the other male options but still taller than Midlander which you seem fine with so this whole height thing really does seem petty when it is the actual aesthetics of the race as whole that bother you and not the height itself.

And you know what, that is a fine preference to have.

But you dismissed male Viera on their height and that is what people find petty about it.

Also I too hope they add more beard and facial options because I find FFXIV is laughably lacking in that department compared to everyone else and it feels worse when they advertise the game with a character who has stubble we can't even use >_>

(I'm 6ft 1in and would be considered tall as well and yes I too prefer men taller but I have always been open to shorter men as well because variety)

Yeah, this is how I feel about it as well. It's not that I have a problem with their preferences. It's that they dismissed male viera based on a difference of 2 inches, when they are already tall to begin with. Again, it's a personal preference. We can agree to disagree on the matter but people are allowed to have their own personal tastes.

I did my part to push for male viera to conform to the aesthetics I favoured. It didn't pan out and as I said in a prior post, it is what it is. I'm not going to pretend to care for how they turned out, though. I'm glad they were added but they're just not to my personal tastes in their current form and as such I have no intention of playing one.

Now that they're around, though, hopefully we'll get some additional customisation options for the older playable races. They're looking a little dated at this point in time.

They didn't show off their facial hair options in the live letter.

Now I'll have to get the benchmark to check it out, or wait for someone to upload character creator footage on YouTube if my laptop can't handle it. I don't want another...

It just strikes me as a strange thing to pick apart. Each to their own, though!

In the end, it doesn't matter too much anyway since most current viera I see are cowards and make their characters min height. Any max height male viera is going to be taller than at least 2/3 of the female viera population.

Perhaps. I certainly won't complain if that happens to be the case.

It also remains to be seen how popular Viera men prove to be once they are added to the game. I have a feeling that they'll be most popular on the Crystal datacentre and mostly impact the Miqo'te male population.

Unlockable hairstyle usually aren't included in benchmark, so there's honestly a chance that we won't see anything new there at all and will have to wait until 6.0 release to actually check if girls got all unlockable hairstyles or not.

People embrace niche because they often have zero options for what they want. Those who want generic customization (as in found in every game ever, not that I mean generic in a bad way) have multiple options for it already in the base vanilla game. I.e. there was no option at all for a male race that is shorter (slightly lol) than the females. There was no option for a thinner males as all FFXIV males are pretty muscular. There is multiple choices for taller males. There is a plethora of options for facial hair, even if you don't personally like those options.

So really, you just want more on top of what you already have while those who have nothing just have to conform to your ideals? Weird.

Also, a completely moot point now because they just said in the Q&A they are working on the stubble.

Double also, male Viera aren't niche. They are tall and handsome and about as niche as male K-pop stars. Which as it turns out, isn't very niche at all.

Hopefully, if the female Viera come out with some of the unlockable hairstyles, male Viera will too. I really love the Gold Saucer adventurer haircut and the Styled for Hire! I swear though that the bench mark does have some unlockable hairstyles, as I was certain that I ran the benchmark with the Gold Saucer hair on my Elezen.

I should have checked in on this thread instead of posting in the other one. But I really like that male viera are shorter than the females. I was kind of surprised since male characters are usually taller than their female counterparts. I've seen a few height comparisons that looked like it could have gone either way. While I wasn't invested too much about the height one way or the other, I did still slightly prefer them to be a little bit shorter, so I'm really happy with this design decision. Having a race where the male characters are shorter for a change is different and interesting to me. Male viera checks all my boxes! I'm so excited for the benchmark.

I assume Tsumdere means "shorter by default". As of now, for all options (with the exception of Viera, and technically Lalafells as they are same height range) for a male to be shorter, he has to be minimal height, and female has to be maximum height, and even then the difference is 2-3 cm (4 for elezen), which... first, isn't much to begin with and, second, the vast majority of female characters use minimal or shorter heights so it's barely achievable even though possible. With Viera we get an option where the possible difference can be from 0 to up to 18 cm depending on male's minimal height, and this will be the only race where males can be shorter for more than 5cm if we don't count Lalafells.

Right, min/max height males have always been taller than min/max females (aside from lalafell).
Now we finally have a race where the males are shorter than females. It's kind of like how male rabbits tend to be smaller than female rabbits of the same species.

Yeah, there were a few against it (mostly coming from the same few people), but just like you I also like how the dev team embraced the whole irl rabbit dimorphism. I feel like I got everything I wanted out of male viera. They are classically handsome bishounen, slim, and are just a touch shorter than the females. I just keep getting what I want and it feels amazing. :cool:
