I don't mind if someone asks me what it means, or likewise asks me to do it (Because I offer in the same braeth that I ask to do it because I know I can do it on any of my tanks.) What I mind is when an attitude turns haughty and becomes "oh you want me to do both our jobs? No thanks, I get enough of that in real life" specifically after offering to do it myself but leaving it out there that they can do it if they prefer.

Some tanks want to do all the tanking. Some tanks want to DPS. I leave that option open and offer.

Another dramafest which could have been avoided by proper communication.

Seriously just make your expectations plain on both sides. Although, in this particular case I'm inclined to agree that the MT shouldn't have agreed to something when he clearly had no clue what it meant.

I made the same assumption based on the situation, however, that's from being OUT of the dungeon and in context of the complaint. Being in the dungeon and automatically assuming Eidolon meant for him to MT isn't a farfetched idea. If I assumed I knew the context (that he was asking if I wanted to MT) I wouldn't ask him what "Super Tanking" is. I'd simply say, "sure I got it" and proceed to MT (which is probably exactly what the person did). When Eidolon made his comment in game however, it would of dawned on me what he actually meant, but honestly, not before. It's only because we're looking at it from an outside perspective. The only real contempt towards Eidolon here is the fact that he's calling the other tank an idiot for this. Yes, we understand he didn't respond very nicely, but making assumptions that everyone knows all the community based terminology (especially this one) then go to name calling is also a bit much. We understand the frustration part, but it seems like even a majority here have not heard of "super tanking" as a commonly used term. My static healer lets my hp drop to 10% for the limit break boost and calls it "edging". I don't automatically expect every player I meet to know what I mean when I say edging. But most could probably pick up on what I meant in the context.

As for the 2nd part, that would be so the healers don't die due to DPS not grabbing enough hate quick enough or burning quick enough. It only takes a little bit of time of a healer getting beaten to the face with no one noticing for him to end up grabbing enormous amounts of enmity because now he has to heal himself and the tank and more than likely, start using AoE cures such as medica II or cure III. Not to mention, healer's casts can be interrupted or gob forbid they have to move to avoid an AoE from an add. Hence, OT that can very quickly grab the hate and take the dmg instead. If anything, it's easier for the OT to just grab and hold and let the DPS continue trucking away at the boss. The only problem with this is that you end up stretching the healers thin now as they have to heavily heal 2 tanks. So end story, it's much more efficient to just burn the adds quickly and get back to pommeling the boss's face after.

Now this notion of "super tanking" is indeed a good way to offset this issue. The problem however lies in whether or not the tank can actually withstand the amount of incoming dmg as now he's essentially taking on dmg that should be spread between 2 tanks. If both healer's don't realize this is happening, I can see this turning into a bad situation quickly.

Like I wouldn't want to "super tank" TitanEx (sync'd that is). I have enough trouble with Titan punching my face in. I don't really want/need his adds to help, especially with how much the healer's have to move and dodge as it is already. It would only take 1 bad circumstance of both healer's having to avoid WotL for me to go down with the amount of incoming damage I'd be taking.

Yeah, I mean I guess I can understand that. I may just assume it's obvious, because the method of MT grabbing everything is my preferred method. In this case, if someone said Supertank, it would be reinforcing my idea of what should happen. That said, if a new term comes in, I'd probably ask what it means if I am being asked to do something. Like if I went in and a SCH asked me the WHM "Hey are you good to Super heal?" I'd be like, "what do you mean, super heal?".

I tend to call people idiots to my FC/LS in frustration, but I tend to not say things to them. In this case, he is ranting on the forum, so I can relate to that. I think the other tanks response of "you want me to do both our jobs" is a pretty ridiculous statement and shows a lack of actual interest in working together. It's a rather ironic statement in that sense.

I just finished up my SMN relic and did a bunch of Alex 1 runs to clear it. I did the majority of these with my WHM for two reasons, I prefer to heal that fight and I get faster queue times ;). I can tell you that my job was significantly easier when one tank took everything than the tanks splitting it up. I was able to put out nearly double the DPS and had a much easier time healing. Having the tanks split the damage caused me to use up to 4x the cooldowns necessary (i.e. pop out of cleric stance and I'd regen/tetra 1x GCD the MT and pop back in vs pop out of cleric regen/cure main regen/cure ot = 4x GCD). The damage they take is pretty low, so one tank can handle it pretty easily.

Basically we could have both heals doing ~600 dps and the OT doing 1k DPS on Faust, or we could have both heals doing 300 DPS and the OT doing 400 on faust (starts on faust and moves away). Over 1.5 minutes (or whatever it takes, varies..) That's the difference of 1200 DPS x 90 s or 108,000 damage.

It may simply be because my FC has a lot of healers, so I almost never go into anything without 2 healers I know for harder content. With this being the case, we're often in chats together and the healer's will simply take 1 tank each to watch over to keep things simple (but will call out for help if needed). It's always easier when you only have to focus on 1 thing ^^

Why not just call it solotank then? Like soloheals? Why add more confusion about it? If there is already a term for the same thing, why add something new that is actually more confusing than what the term really is? There is absolutely no confusion if a healer asks me if I'm ok to soloheal, but if he would say "Superheal" I would be like "o_O wat? Is it a bird? Is it a plane?"! Whenever I saw tanks deciding about solotanking there was no doubt about it. But go and introduce Supertank and hell goes loose, and unnecessarily.

*Raises hand* I was healing Haukke Manor once and asked a Gladiator why he wasn't a Paladin and was met with three "I'm/He's 28." We had a good laugh about it.

Story 1:
Was queuing lvl 50 roulette as dps very late at night. It took about 20mins to pop up. At start the group just stands there at beginning... then tank and the other dps say they chose the wrong dungeon. We'll have to disband and they say they're sorry, just need to wait the timer to go down so we can disband.
So okay, that happens sometimes. I asked them to kick me in that case, since I'll have to wait for another 20min... nothing happens. Ok... then prompts up a request to kick the tank. I'm just staring at the screen like ... really?

(the kind healer kicked me out after those two though <3 )

Story 2:
Happened just now, was in daily leveling dungeon as lvl 58 scholar. Got copperbell mines. Tank asks me to "just stick to healing". Being the polite person that I am, I put my chara on /follow, let eos do the healing and tabbed out reading manga on the side, tabbing in to help at boss fights.

On the other hand, this is kind of dumb. I don't get why people want to split up the tanking on Faust in the first place. It turns it into an absolute mess. Just have one tank pick everything up, let the other tank go ham. It also lets the healers DPS more.

Maybe it's because I tank it in Savage as well as in Normal, but I pretty clearly see this as a solo tank fight the same as the Avatar in T8 and Nael in T9. There were adds to pick up in both of those too but a single tank handled it just fine (and solo was indeed the preferred method of tanking those fights). He didn't fail at doing his job, he was simply suggesting the most efficient way to tank that particular fight and the person he was in there with chose to take offense to that for some reason. Also of note, the person you're replying to offered to be the one to pick everything up.

There was some pretty wicked spike damage in T8 when a dread would come up, but that's what cooldowns are for.

Solo tanking Titan EX has been a thing since long before unsyncing was a thing. Even when we were at level 50, with the extra DPS slot you can burn him fast enough that the MT doesn't pick up a bunch of stacks. You still have a tank picking up the adds, it just happens to be the MT instead of the OT. The adds don't even hit hard and the tank shouldn't have stacks at that point anyway as it's right after the heart phase. Really the biggest worry is one of them Landsliding your tank off the edge.

That was also when T8 was at the top of the raid cycle, when you were expected to be good at your job, not like it is now, or even once FCoB was out for a bit.

Expecting all tanks to be able to survive Faust and the adds in normal mode is elitist and wrong. In a PF for A1S? Yeah, expect that. DFing A1N? No. You WILL get those tanks just barely passing the ilv check, you WILL get DPS going tank for the queue who can't tank more than the minimum, you WILL get people who are just bad at tanking. You'll also have healers who aren't as good, who can only deal with a single tank's damage at a time. Or slow DPS which causes even more damage on the tank, sometimes more than they have CDs for.

If you can solo tank Faust, go ahead and do it. But don't expect everyone else to be able to too. And before you ask...yes, I can solo tank him just fine, normal or savage. Overgearing helps a ton with it :P

Probably because there are more fights where splitting it that way is the most effective than there are fights where solo tanking is the most effective. Many players prefer the more familiar (as well as safer) pattern.

The problem is that he wasn't "suggesting" the most efficient way. He was demanding it, and calling the other tank "****ing stupid" "haughty" and "an idiot" for preferring the more traditional split. Preference for a MT/OT split is none of those things.

The only options Eidolon offered was to take over everything himself so the other tank couldn't do the job he was there for, or requiring the other tank to do everything, which apparently that other tank wasn't comfortable with. There was nothing wrong about the other tank wanting to tank but not wanting (or being able to) tank everything at once.

People like to throw the word "elitist" around on these forums way too much. Did I say I expect every tank to be able to do it and I'm gonna vote kick anyone that refuses? No. If a tank is undergeared or doesn't feel like they can do it, that's fine. What I said is I don't really understand the mentality behind the strategy, meaning if there's no obvious reason to do it (i.e. undergeared tank or tank that isn't confident tanking it all) that I don't see why you would. I've had tanks in full Eso that clearly know the fight ask me if I want Faust or the adds, and are incredulous when I tell them I'll tank it all and for them just to DPS. I end up just as incredulous when they refuse to drop tank stance and rip Faust off me instead of contributing to the DPS.

Honestly, a lot of the time I end up just queueing with a tank friend so we're both on the same page.

I don't see where he demanded anything. He asked the other tank a question, and the other tank answered. As it turns out, the other tank didn't actually understand what he was asking but he agreed to it anyway. When asked why he wasn't picking up the adds, the other tank got snarky. It could've easily been cleared up with more communication on both sides of things (either the poster to make sure he knew what was meant by "supertanking," or the other tank stating that he didn't actually know what that meant). I'll agree with you about the last bit being out of line, in any case.

This whole "supertank" business reminds me of that time in the Library (I think) where a paladin, before the first boss, asked me to "single heal" him. I had no idea what he was talking about, I thought he was referring to some strategy to heal only him and ignore the rest of the party. O_o As it turns out he just wanted me to throw him a heal before we started so that some skill of his would trigger a shield. Sadly he ended up being a bit rude about the whole thing.

He was most likely referring to an ability called “Divine Veil”. It’s an ability which will cast a protective barrier on nearby party members when the Paladin is being healed with a Healing Spell (not an Healing ability like Benediction, Assize, etc). The barrier prevents damage up to 10% of the Paladin’s maximum HP.

If you see an animation like the one below, the Paladin has used this “Divine Veil” ability.

Upon using this ability, a buff will be added to the Paladin’s party bar, displaying a blue icon with a shield/barrier “reflecting”/blocking a projectile. If a healer doesn’t know about this ability, it’s easy missable, but a Paladin would most likely use this ability just before the boss executes an arena wide AoE.

However, the Paladin didn’t have to be rude about it afterwards.

This.

This whole mess was a communication/expectation issue on both parties. I think the other tank handled it poorly: he agreed to something that he had know idea what to do, and then proceeded to get mad at OP when OP acted on his understanding.

But there was also an expectation that people are familiar with terminology and the most efficient strategy in a DF group, which also probably was unwise.

I think we all learned something here...carry on. :)

xD I REALLY hope that this wasn't me... I always pop Divine Veil before a boss. Unfortunately, the range on this skill is rather short (15 yalms), so it's hit or miss trying to pop it during the middle of a fight, especially if it's with casters in DF. As stated though, it's great because it's basically a stoneskin, except, everyone gets one for 30s that's as strong as mine (as it's gives 10% based on the tanks hp instead of the user). Sometimes it goes unused even when popped, but who doesn't like more mitigation?

If it was me though, my Divine Veil is a macro and will always say in party chat, "Using Divine Veil. Please heal me to activate." I never get try to get actually rude, but there's 30 seconds to activate this skill and I'm holding the pull waiting for it to be activated. If the healer doesn't read my party chat macro within 10 seconds, I assume it somehow pushed it out of your chat box and you didn't see, so I will then manually ask for a heal. If I still don't see a heal action in 5-10 seconds, I will then likely start doing the poke emote on you. And if you completely fail to use it, I will likely make a "=_=" face and start the pull anyways. Then will ask after. But I fear that this incident may have been me as I had a situation like this recently in the Library (maybe 2 days ago?). The only reason I would get even slightly rude is because I made numerous attempts to get your attention and did everything I could to communicate what I wanted within a 30 second time frame that was ignored. But if this was me... then what you took as rude would of been me saying "healer, next time please heal me when you see divine veil as it pops a shield ^^"

I really hope it wasn't me though... ._.

First part I was answering a specific question (which was why bother having an OT grab adds). The POINT is to keep the squishy healers safe and allow them to do their job without interruption. It was't an answer to specifically reference Faust, but a general answer to all adds on any boss fight.

As for solo tanking TitanEx; I'm glad you and other's can do so. I unfortunately cannot as I am not fully eso geared. Even at ilvl 183 and knowing the fight pretty well, I still have difficulty. Likely a good part of this is due to the fact that I am a STR tank that doesn't have eso gear (so basically, my hp is is lower). So taking on more than titan himself is askin a bit much on my specific character.

Um, just to clear up for anyone who still doesn't know supertanking just means to tank everything, I believe it's origins come from FF11 where tanking one mob at a time was the common strategy due to how damage mitigation worked in that game (/NIN shadow tanking) To supertank I'd want something with high defence and high HP like PLD/BLU or PLD/RDM. It was a strategy called out long before the fight started as it required a different sub job and gear.

That said I used the term in the forum the other day when refering to big pulls, old habits die hard I guess.

I did eventually figure out what he meant and started throwing him the requested heal in the following bosses, so it all ended up alright.

It's neither elitist nor is it wrong. It's actually quite common and I'm sorry for you if your groups have given you experiences to the contrary.

I've been tanking a ton of Alex lately for my relic and almost every single group has done the Supertank method on Faust. Most times I or the other tank will volunteer to do it and we've never had a healer say no, don't.

The first time I was asked if I could Supertank Faust I hadn't done it on A1S yet. I said no, and the other tank and his healer taught me how, then said isn't that awesome?? Hell yeah it is!

This is how we learn new techniques, by sharing it with other groups, and I love that about this game. It's why I still DF as a dps and healer, because I'm constantly learning new tanking techniques from other players.

That said, is it for everyone, or for every group? No, and that's where your keyboard and even brief communication and consensus comes in.

Solo tanking has been a viable strategy for Titan EX since back at level 50, though. Even if you're running it synced, there should be no reason for you to be having problems with the incoming damage as you'd be synced to the maximum possible stats for level 50 (which is still vastly overgeared for that fight). If you're having issues tanking him, it's definitely not related to your gear. Either the DPS isn't pushing him fast enough so you're getting too many stacks, or the heals are lacking.

Had an interesting run of A4 NM this evening. I joined in progress as a WHM to see two other people, one of which left shortly after. At first I was thinking "damn time to try again" but then another person joined in and I felt like having some fun so I tap oppressor with aero lol. Boss begins to smash the hell out of us as the new guy loads in and he is stuck till we all die while he goes "wtf" haha. Then after a few more people come and go I try it again but this time I get sucked up the tube by my lonesome and get the most awesome idea. Since people can't leave during combat (and they pretty much died instantly after loading in anyway) I just sat at the top healing myself till the party was full again. Then died and went down and we all buffed up and kicked its butt in one of the smoothest runs I have ever experienced. Right when we started one guy left cause an S rank spawned but he was replaced pretty quick. I'm kinda glad people are so impatient sometimes cause otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do that lol. Was kinda funny when one guy said "I love you" when he realized what I was doing lol.

Cetus - near wipe (at one point, 1.5 parties were down). Somehow got through it.

Sawtooth/Irminsul - near wipe. All the melee sure liked ignoring adds and standing in poisons.

Cuchulainn - If it could be stood in, everyone stood in it. Vomit, bile, pools, tentacles. Healer LB, and we still wiped. 5 stacks of bleed. Go back and try it again, pretty much a repeat. Shout out to the geniuses who were standing on platforms, to get the pools spawned on them. Third time's a charm.

Echidna - Apparently, when Echidna splits, she enrages if she's killed before at least one of the serpents? Plus, the serpents were too close. Thankfully, got her down the second time. :( And I have to do it again for either belt or boots.

If you're attacking the plant thing in melee, it poisons you from time to time. The plant/dog thing does that annoying mucus, though.

The adds are squishy as hell and shouldn't present a problem for anyone to kill in seconds.

DF Roulette as lvl 32 DRK few days ago, get Halatali, everyone else (think it was CNJ, THM and ARCH ) is around the dungeon level and since I don't like DF'ing alone with a tank I want to get most of it and ask if full run is kay with them.

Oh boooy...the amount of gratitude I was met with just for doing the full run nearly blew my mind - I said to tell me if I miss some mobs and the CNJ was like 'its so nice to see nice tanks again' or stuff like that and the ARCH who thanked me already was like 'really Yuen tank you so much for this'

Just before the last boss I finally checked the gear of my mates and our THM had pretty bad gear, some lvl 1 stuf and told them they should upgrade after the run and he went like 'shhhh..!' and we had a pretty good laugh teasing him about it. As one of them said he looked more like a peasant villager who tries to survive with the adevnturers than a THM x'D
At the end someone went 'Full Commendations on Yuen' and 'Hope to play with you later' I checked right aftrewards to add them but sadly none of them was on my server :/
Anyhow! I was happy I could help them and the amount of gratitude was overwhelming for a simple halatali run - tanking can be SO rewarding with the right ppl :)


A big thank you to the lvl 44 Bard who stayed with us for the silly brayfolx run in which the three of us (me as 34 DRK, my bf as 55 WHM and a mate as 60 DRG) wanted to check if u can clear it with a lvl 1 weapon and starter gear (exculding the accesoires)
We learned no u can't but we made it work with me in my full gear and some piety stuff for the whm

Oh? I've run VA as brd, so the adds are super easy. Didn't know about the melee issue with Irminsul, though, my highest melee is...uh...32. Thanks for that tip! I'll be less annoyed now. :)

Back in when VA was 2nd day after patch and ppl were practialy new, burning down echidna FIRST after split was the only way to ensure ppl were burning them fast enough with relative distance the one who got killed of 3 needs to be FAR enough from living ones. Who dies first doesnt matter as long as the killed one is far enough and all 3 killed in time.

I In-progressed into a Fractal group tonight that had apparently wiped to the second boss. As in, minotaur.

I didn't even know such a thing was possible unless you're literally sleeping in his AOE, and even then I can still take 3 hits from it.

had 2 interesting DF groups yesterday.
1st one was Trials. Got Titan Hard first. Sweet deal, should be easy. We wipe. Wtf. DPS were standing in landslides and WotL and dropping like crazy. Maybe it was just a bad series of events. 2nd wipe.
Throughout the entire thing, 1 healer didn't have swiftcast, which the other one was complaining to him about. Ironically though, the healer complaining that the other didn't have swiftcast always did so while lying on the ground dead. But they did also make another good point, which was to stop healing Eos instead of the party. 1 tank was doing well, the other was constantly dead though.

So now that 2 wipes have happened, one of the DPS decides to ask, "so is anyone new here?". The tank that isn't dropping constantly chimes in. Honestly, never would of thought he was new, he was doing great. We explain things for the next few min to him. He gets disconnected... Someone vote dismisses him. Following that, 2 DPS drop. Ugh. Seriously. It's Titan Hard, not Ex. I think to myself, well, this can be done with a single tank. She's a WAR with barely 8000 hp. My hp as a ninja was 7900.... I look at the tanks gear.... She's level 50 with the ilvl 90 gear. Ok, that's fine for Titan Hard. Her accessories are still a bit low in the 30-40 range, but that's not the biggest deal. So whats the problem here? I look at her weapon. Dear. God. It's level 27 NQ. Wait what? How did you make it here?!

New DPS join us. One says, "why don't we start? We got 1 tank, that should be fine". I point out that the current tank may be a tad undergeared for the fight and we all have a laugh until a new tank joins. Nothing malicious in the game chat, the WAR acknowledged she was undergeared and said she just simply didn't have the money to get an upgrade (though, why she passed on the one's you get from simply leveling to 50...).

Next up! Do the leveling roulette as a tank. Get Solm Al. Awesome, should be fine. See the "one or more players are new" notification and I simply ask, "so who's new here?". Before an answer came, the monk goes running up to the first mob by herself... I go run in to save her. While I'm grabbing hate, the healer wrote, "I think that's our answer". I grab the 1st mob and drag to the 2nd and we burn them.

After I simply asked her not to pull for me again. Literally, right after, she runs into the next area. This time, the healer and I looked at each other and just "noped". She of course died, but not before dragging the damn mob to us. *sigh*
We kill them, she respawns and joins us about halfway through. I reiterate that she needs to stop pulling. She actually lets me grab the next mob before the 1st boss and we get through it. Then the boss comes. Healer at this point threatens to kick her if she pulls again. Guess what happens next. She pulls the boss. Healer puts up vote kick on her. =_=
We got a BLM after that and everything went real smooth from there.

Here's another "fun" one:

Expert roulette. Pharos Sirius (Hard). BLM/NIN/PLD, and I was healing on my AST. The PLD was pretty survivable and the DPS pretty decent, so I was pretty comfortable with throwing up a few HoTs on the tank and helping with the DPS to make the run go faster.

First boss, since I'm free to DPS, I also, naturally, help the DPS with the adds. What happens? I'm not "helping": I am the ONLY ONE killing the adds. The DPS are just burning down the boss, and the adds are stacking up while I'm trying desperately to kill them, keep the tank alive, and keep myself alive. Near the end of the fight I have FIVE adds on me and if I don't focus-heal myself my HP will drop in a near instant. Luckily, the DPS downed the boss before I could run out of MP, and I didn't get interrupted hardly at all while casting my heals on myself. ._.;

Second boss, surprise surprise, I'm the only one handling the slimes. To start out it's not a huge issue, but once the boss starts doing his corkscrew thingy and people start getting hit by it, it becomes a bit overwhelming. Becomes even more overwhelming when the NIN, who I told THREE TIMES to kill the slime he had over the vent I was STANDING ON, veeeery slowly kills the slime by the wall NEXT TO (but obviously far enough away to NOT HIT THE VENT) THE DAMN VENT. Of course, that caused even more slimes to spawn. I believe I had like three of them on me at one point.

So to recap: I had to heal the tank (thank GOD they were survivable so I didn't have to direct heal as much), heal the DPS, kill AND TANK the adds, and cling to dear life myself. And SOMEHOW, I managed to squeeze a few dots and Malefic IIs in on the bosses. Sweet baby Jesus, they were lucky I'm a geared healer. -.- After that second boss I decided to say something, so that hopefully they don't torment any other healers in the future who might be much less geared than I am. WORD FOR WORD, I said: "Just a heads up, the healer shouldn't be the only one killing adds..." Then the BLM, who doesn't DPS for nearly the entire trash pull following my saying that, comes out with this paragraph: "I helped you with the first couple, then you looked like you had it so I decided that more DPS on the boss was better. Quit being an asshole."

I DIIIIIIIIED. XDDDD First of all, she really didn't help me with the adds: if she did, it wasn't noticeable at all. Not once. I know for a FACT no one killed adds on the first boss, and I was the only one to get the tethers on the second (not to mention the couple times where I had to directly heal the tank and an add was up, no one took it until I stabilized the tank's HP and got it myself). Second of all, all I did was nicely tell the DPS they need to be more on-the-ball with killing adds and not force the healer to perform THREE ROLES AT ONCE, because our jobs are hard enough, and that makes me an asshole... This is a HUGE problem I've run into in this game with giving ANY advice or criticism to help people improve, no matter how nice/sugar-coated it is, so I simply responded with "Lol? Politely asking that you kill adds makes me an asshole? Damn, people in this game need to grow some thicker skin. ._. " She said it sounded like I was "rude" and "condescending" with my saying "just a heads up", and that at 60 and Expert roulette level they would just OBVIOUSLY know that that's what they need to do (SO NOT TRUE btw, any healer or tank would know that pain, QQ). Last thing I said was "Don't worry, you'll know when I'm being rude/condescending/an asshole. <3" And you will, because I can be a royal bitch at times: I'll admit it. >>

Luckily the DPS did what they should have been doing all along on the last boss, save for the second set of grey bombs and remedy bombs, where the NIN failed to knock back the remedy bomb on the second grey bomb and it exploded. .-. Kinda figured with this group that that might happen on this boss, so I precasted and AoE heal, and we finished the fight without incident.

But... SERIOUSLY! >< Why do people get so damn offended if you offer advice or ask that someone helps you out a bit and makes your job a little easier? I'm never mean when I do it. ._. If I said something like "For the love of GOD, help me kill adds," or "Do your jobs, you idiots", then yeah, THAT is being rude (unless the former is said after numerous times of trying to nicely get the DPS to do what they're supposed to).

Just in all honestly...I've found it easiest to deal with the Slimes if the Healer deals with them and lets the DPS just kill the boss (I think that's actually the general assumption for that fight; healer deals with slimes). If you pick them up as soon as they spawn and kill them on the vents asap, the mechanic is a non-issue.

I'm going to assume that you're close to min ilv for the dungeon? My healers are under i200, and I can DPS most of the fight and deal with slimes.

The DPS definitely could have helped out on the first boss, and were a bit rude. But...especially if everyone is geared...people are going to assume you can deal with a faster run and do more than stand around and heal occasionally with little DPSing.

It's moments like this that makes me reconsider tanking...

Did my EX Roulette (PS Hard) on my PLD today. Now, I know PLD isn't in the best of shape, but outside of anything savage it hardly matters. Even with the gear now, PLD is incredibly viable in savage.
However, one the DPS in my group (a DRG) gave me crap from the get go about how PLD was trash, had no AoE dmg, and how I queued on PLD solely to slow down other people's runs. I respond by telling him that I just prefer the aesthetic of PLD and enjoy tanking. We get to the first boss, clear it without any problems, and on the run from the boss room to the next trash I see this message:

"Go kill urself PLD"

And then I get vote kicked. Considered reporting the guy, but honestly I doubt anything would happen because I foresee this being factored under "playstyle differences."

Actually the fact he said that would have been enough to merit him being warned by a GM. Removing for play style is one thing, but telling someone to kill them self is a major issue that they shouldn't ever turn a blind eye to. However don't give up on tanking though, I've just recently gotten over the fear myself and am enjoying it, granted I've yet to sign up for Raids or Level 60 roulettes yet.
