The point about 'consensus' was to settle on something acceptable to the majority of players who have expressed complaints. If those players cannot come to some form of "this is what the majority is asking for", why would SE bother? Anything they do, including keeping the current housing system, could upset a number of players.

Other players out there who want housing: would an instance such as Island Sanctuary be sufficient for your housing needs? Perhaps a space somewhere on the island for the house, which might, or might not, have space for exterior customization?

Leave finding a consensus to the devs. That's their job. It is well known that players are much better at pointing out where issues are than suggesting solutions for those issues. There is no purpose in you asking for the forums to come up with a consensus. At best it's a waste of time, at worst it's an attempt to invalidate criticism.

And if the devs choose to retain the current system, what do you do then?

Personally, I'd like to see a massive influx of hardware, and a consolidation of non-active account holders moved to a different neighborhood that does not continually run because everyone there has been offline for long periods of time.

If a rewrite is necessary, putting the housing in the same instance in the Island Sanctuary would be fine.

If you've ever visited the Housing subforum, you would know that I have been pushing for SE to switch to an instanced housing system on the level of ESO, WildStar and RIFT housing for years. The ward system is a failure. It can't keep up with an ever increasing player base. It doesn't not create the feeling of a neighborhood for most of the players who have managed to acquire a house and yet are highly unlikely to encounter other players in their ward due to the small number of owners per ward.

SE remains stuck on the ward system, though. They've made no indication they'll consider giving us anything else.

I try to be a realist. If the ward system is what we as players will be given to work with then we need accept that until SE decides to change something. That means players will always be upset with the system. Even if we got to the point every player could get a house, the goalpost would get picked up by the player base and moved to "every player should be able to get a large" and that simply will never happen unless SE were to dismantle the current wards entirely and release new ones. At which point, they might as well give us the instanced housing that would have avoided this mess in the first place.

So we have a system where not every player who wants a house can get one on the worlds where they've chosen to play. That means to keep houses in the hands of players who are active instead of having a bunch of houses sitting unused, we need to have demolition.

Everyone who has purchased a house since demolition then apartments were added back in Heavensward should be well aware of this. If you didn't want to have to remain subbed all the time, you shouldn't have purchased a house. You should have opted for an apartment and asked a friend who doesn't have a problem staying subbed to add you as a tenant to their house.

Instead what we get is a bunch of players who are unhappy with the game but for some reason want to keep paying a sub just to keep a house in the game they don't want to be playing. Their money, they can waste it if they want. But they need to keep in mind that by doing so they are not doing anything that might pressure SE into making the changes they would like to see in the game.

I'll rephrase what I said earlier: money may talk but giving up something that you like and keeping your money is going to speak a lot louder in the long run, especially if there are a large number of players who feel the same way you do and choose to do the same. Otherwise, you're just tossing money in SE's pocket. They have no reason to change anything if players are going to keep subbing to the game even when they're not playing.

Wanting to take a break from the game doesn't mean that you want to quit the game for good though. I get what you mean, sort of, both options suck in their own ways. I don't know if SE is even going to care if a few people end up giving up their houses, it's just less money they have to spend on adding new wards.

I note that the quote was from a live letter 10 years ago, when competition for housing was, perhaps, not expected to run out given the then current player population. So, not a lie (in 2013), but a gross underestimation of the number of actual players the game would eventually have. Wishful thinking, rather than outright lies.

Sometimes I think I can't be surprised anymore, and I was aware of the existence of this process, but witnessing the whole thing happen was astonishing. It's like watching a Blasphemy come to life.

Don't bother replying to him. He refuses to listen to anything that implies Squeenix or Yoshi could have done anything wrong. It's like arguing with a brick wall.

Ive already said and agreed that the system isnt good, but neither is spending money on a game you dont enjoy/arnt playing.

Whats even more insane now, is that you just said "Yes, SE has Control over my Money" no amount of rationalization you create, or how many upvotes you get for it, THAT is absolute insanity.

But, at this point, fine.
Honestly, its your money and how you want to spend it at the end of the day.

It is worrisome, but it's not incomprehensible. It's like if we compared it to the progress of classes. Imagine if you unsubbed and your levels started to diminish over time. That would suck ass, so in that scenario some people would prefer to just stay subbed and not have to deal with the consequences.

It's a designed FOMO system that preys on our inability to let go of progress and achievements. It's especially nasty because of how Housing is limited and it would mean they would need to switch whole servers to even have a chance at a house again.

We know it's FOMO, we know it's shit, we know we can let go. But we can't. Because it's a big loss in the way we play this game, especially knowing we'd like to come back after a few months. So that's 3 free months of sub for Yoshi. :)

Im pretty much done with this topic, like I said, its their money, its their decision, not my place to tell them anything.
Hopefully things get better in a way no person should ever feel this way, cause again.....its pretty insane.
