I get how the internet works but what do you mean by "Routing around it won't be perfect on day 1" .. why not? I do not see why it would suddenly take different paths.
Past that I am not really complaining about the ping directly (in case people jump on my back for this question, since no one pointed it out to me) it was more with the programmed delays in the game that been around since forever and been driving me nuts this whole time, (and the increased ping does make it worse, and thought it was there just because servers where slow/out of date) something I do hope changes for SB.

Ten characters.
A drunk spider who ran out of silk and is now using dried grass in the middle of a Nevada summer :D.. At least that's what it feels like depending on where I am in the US and which provider I'm using lol. Comcast at my home is pretty good, but hilariously expensive.
Definitely should give it time to settle.. That doesn't mean it'll be perfect but it may get better, depending on where you're located. (I think some of the Eu that went from 100 to 350 may need to consider the EU servers more seriously now, which is a bummer but at least there are incentivized free transfers).
Please people, do not brag about the one time u got orange percentile under echo in Creator with the rest of your non-echo percentiles in blue like we can't look up the percentiles in a new tab. Then the nerve to talk about mediocre performance. Stop. This argument actually hurts you more than helps.
For those that actually can get high orange percentiles, without echo, consistently (and/or those that go for speedkills and/or world prog), they will notice the effect of going from 50 to 100 or any more dramatic increase that takes them from low to over 100 ms. They will notice the slower activation of GCDs, the lack of double weave without clipping at all, the clipping in a Rapid Fire, the slowdown of activation of oGCDs, and the exacerbated effect of clipping when including Fey Wind in a rotation. They will notice the effect that slowdown has on fitting or not fitting in a gcd with 1 second left on an atk buff (whether personal buff or raid buff). They will notice on SMN (if they're doing an optimal opener and following rotation/priority system/whatever you wanna call it) the delay in double and even triple weave(in the case of a couple openers).
Some choosing to deal with high ping and being quiet about it doesn't mean those who now experience must do the same. It's a legit complaint when your ping doubles triples quadruples etc and you are unhappy with the direct effects it has on your performance. I know aiming to be highly skilled is frowned upon for some reason here but there are many dedicated people who want to push the envelope in the game in battle. And now the decision to move from one coast to the other instead of a central location has a significant effect on many of those who want to push.
If you play casually, or play just to clear and chill, or farm and not care about optimal perf, or speedkill, or world prog, then naturally the change won't really make a difference to you. Dungeons are what they are at this point and can be cleared easily with whatever ping. Normal mode raid the same. Maybe the new primals will be challenging but I remain cautious, as the response to challenging primals has always been make the next one easier.
But for those that want to push, it's a big deal.
cause u know not all the routers are the same, the ISP can upgrade certain routers or hubs where the trafic is not being handled properly , or just route it in another path. this is an on going issue with ISP , and they must monitor their traffic, and upgrade bandwidth or add different routs, etc. all this takes time, and planning and it doesn't happen instantly.
You do know that the only thing that can get better are just some possible new routes right? And even then the chance would be slim since I assume all ISPs would of had all their DNS tables sorted by now or else the data center transfer would of just not happened. I'm not saying it'll never get better, just that if something does get better it won't be SE leaning on the service providers, especially in the US.
Positivity thread hype!
Lets keep this thread positive guys.
South American FFXIV players, you are in the same boat as us Aussies and SEA players. We are still playing without complaint because we know there is nothing to be done about it. I am happy I can play the game, do dungeons and not be hit by everyone AOE due to lag at least XD.
It costs a lot of money to run a server, they can't start one in South America AND South East Asia.
At least we can play an English client of FFXIV, Dragon Quest X is still Japanese only T_T.
May I ask what method people are using for checking their ping when playing from a PS4? I am helping someone and I hoped that running Resource Monitor from a PC would detect the PS4's connection to FFXIV, but that apparently didn't work.
48-51ms 0% packets lost
Nah the PC Resource Manager only shows the incoming and outgoing connections on that PC.
You can get the IP of the server you wish to check the ping and open Command Prompt on the computer that is on the same network as your PS4 and do "ping serverip"
You can see the ping in ms that way since the PC is on the same network as the ps4 it should be relatively the same.
Florida. No change at all 90-106 average.
15-25ish before, 80-100ish now. Double weaving on Bard is clipping into my gcds now. And I have to exit aoes much sooner now.. I feel the difference.

These are some ping tests. What sources are being used by everyone?
Hmm, my suspicion was that this was the case. You may be interested in reading this tumblr post, which is about a certain thing that was made to counteract this problem of server validation and ping tax, but for a different MMO.
I fall into the category that FFXIV is clunky and slow. I'm used to being able to rapidly cast skills one after another and being able to animation cancel a lot of my skills, so it just feels somewhat slow to me. Like if I don't have any oGCDs to cast, I'm literally sitting there either waiting for the GCD to reach under a quarter of its duration, or I'm spamming the skill (if I don't want to look at my hotbar). From what I understand, WoW has a much shorter GCD (1-1.5s).
We're using our own PC as source, open cmd and type
ping serveriphere
windows resource monitor, tcp latency
I anticipated that there would be some issues/drawbacks/delays/whatever it is to send players batty, and that it would take a little bit for things to get back to normal. As such I decided to take some additional days away from the game. I'm not saying everyone should also take some time away to let things settle, but it's the only way I know how to be patient since I don't have patience for lag type issues.
I'm pretty sure things will be just fine in a few days. Not the end of the world. Unless the world ends in the next couple days. But the end of the world should wait until Monday. The weekend, as fitting as it sounds, is just inconvenient :)
I admit doing PotD I am seeing more lag spikes than normal (I am in Colorado, had no issues prior) so I am going to hold off a few days before I become a doom sayer, if at all. xD
Boston. Went from 50-60 average (wireless) to 105-110. Still no packet loss though, so I'll deal. East Coast always get shafted.
Us west coast players have been playing the game with ~150+ ping the since the game has been out and it is fine. They said the game was made with 200 ping in mind.
If you live in Brazil and the game is suffering from 300ms+ latency, the real latency we should be getting is between 190ms and 210ms. Telefónica is routing 204.2.229.0/24 packets through Amsterdan. It only happens between Telefonica and NTT. Running this check to test the latency of the AWS CA servers can be a rough simulation of what you should be getting.
If your traceroute log shows hops named "ae1-0-ntt-grtamstc1.net.telefonicaglobalsolutions.com" and/or "amstnl02.nl.bb.gin.ntt.net" I encourage you to call tech support and apply generous quantities of salt.
I have gone from around 60-70 ms ping to well over 110-120. The effect is very noticeable, and as a healer the added latency has dramatically affected how well I can heal.
I REALLY hope that they will either optimize the servers to allow for improved latency somehow to bring people on the east coast back up to speed, or move to a centralized location.
Not to say that there weren't any who benefited from this move, but I believe that they could have moved with less detriment to people who live on the east coast.
I am probably jumping the gun a little bit, but it freaks me out that the problems I am experiencing have no clear solution in the works, and SE has not addressed it as of this moment.
looking through the resource monitor shows up as an remote address of 204.2.229.84 for Coeurl which looking into the trace puts it in Colorado. Not sure why people are saying Sacramento.
cmd tells me 176, game tells me 2k+. I don't know what to believe anymore.
routing tables are still being rebuilt ripple by ripple. It will likely take weeks for everything to settle down from the changes. I bet that the DNS changes haven't fully propagated yet either, Though I'm sure the main root DNS servers are updated otherwise it wouldn't work at all.
Regarding the data center location, unless SE has confirmed a state for it, I wouldn't make any assumptions until things settle in terms of routing.
100 ms isn't ideal, but...unplayable? I'm guessing you don't live in an area where that's the norm, because almost all servers are on the west cost instead of the east.
Unfortunately that person doesn't quite know what they're talking about. It's possible that NTT could improve their internal routing in the future, but the location of the datacenters is set in stone now. The Colorado address you're seeing is a business address that NTT America's IP's are registered to, but is not where they're being used. This is abundantly clear if you simply look at their website:
http://www.us.ntt.com/en/services/da...center/us.html
They are not running a Colorado datacenter. They have facilities in California, Virginia, and Texas. No matter what conspiracies you want to entertain, even if you want to ignore the fact that the route terminates right after a clearly-labeled "sacramento, ca" hop, the fact is that the low pings northwest players are getting now would not even be possible if it were in Virginia or Texas no matter how good the routing was. You're being asked to believe the Earth might be flat.
On the previous data center I had very high latency, probably at least 300ms. So it was very difficult and frustrating when I'm trying to farm Golden Saucer Dollars on the Crystal Tower Machine as the menus take at least 45 seconds to load, sometimes even longer!!:mad:
But on the new servers, the loading of the menus is so fast and smooth. I went from getting 243 Golden Saucer Dollars per minute to a whopping 452 Golden Saucer Dollars per minute on the Crystal Tower Machine!:p
I just want to use this post to show my appreciation to Square Enix for really listening to the players of Final Fantasy XIV Online A Realm Reborn Heavensward.
And last of all I want to thank Yoshi-P for his hard work and dedication towards the game. Although he may not be my favorite yoshi (he is my fourth favorite after Green Yoshi, Yarn Yoshi and Baby Yoshi) I still love him dearly for creating this amazing game.:o:o:o
Thank you thank you!! Can't wait to play Stormblood with my low ping!
People will hate you.
Boise -> montreal 100ms 2600 miles
Boise -> Sacramento 45ms 720 miles
The route your connection uses has more effect on latency then distance between you and the server. My connection makes more hops reaching the new data center then it did reaching the old data center.
Thank goodness level3 is gone as well about time.
EU player from Eastern Europe reporting, perfectly playable with 220ping :) I did Zurvan Ex as test (DPS) and everything was dodged as per normal. Healed through Dun Scaith, felt no difference. I could feel very small delay with spamming skills, I imagine DPS feels it most. I agree it is likely extremely frustrating for hard core raiders or those aiming for world's first where everything is optimized as best as possible. The rest however, I see no reason to panic and distress. If your friends matter more, stay on the NA center. If the mild delay in responses bothers you move if you have the option to.
