I'm done with Titan.

Typical MMO community, begging to make the game harder claiming that it is just soooo easy. Then once they run face first into an encounter that they are both under geared and under skilled for they cry in outrage that it is just to outrageously difficult to stay the way it is. OP claims that the issue is plumes can stack yet says he can take one and survive. Yeah sure that's good and all but you should be avoiding those suckers...them stacking actually make the fight easier. You say that you yourself aren't in full darklight, which says that your gear is not ready for this encounter yet.

Titan is a skill, coordination and gear check. If you are under geared you can't survive, if you can't follow multiple simple patterns of mechanics then you will die, if you can't play your role right then either the tank will die the healers pull aggro or the heart wont die fast enough and the party will wipe. This isn't a fight for pugs and joining it in the DF, especially when you aren't geared for it yourself is asking SE to punch you in the face, and titan will be more than happy to do that for them.

Moral of the story is, content gets harder. If you can't handle it then don't complain, get better gear and learn how to play your class better. This isn't wow and SE wont let you see all the content just because, they will make you work for parts of it and that's why I love them.

I can't wait for gear requirements for these encounters. I don't think titan should required Ilvl 70+ but at least ilvl65+ if for no other reason, because if you don't have 3k+ health you are basically dead and even then anything under 3.2k can really stress the healers. As for using DF at all it really isn't best for Titan because the encounter doesn't need 2 tanks and having a second tank actually hurts the group because they can't dish out as much damage and can make killing the heart much harder.

There comes a point in all MMO end game content where pugging is not acceptable. I feel Titan is that point in FFXIV.

Garuda is a cakewalk that only has the standard disclaimer of "so long as your tank knows what to do" (farming garuda for stones fast enough the rate is better than AK runs XD). Then Titan is a check on everyone, doesn't matter what your tank knows if everyone else also doesn't know it.

I'd like to see that challenge stay but the jump is too soon, imo. So a step from Garuda up then to Titan might sound better?


Also I hope SE can implement some sort of latency leeway for some players- their location, the servers locations, and the servers random spikes itself makes for Titan to be a nigh impossible fight for some people. I myself have the same latency if not sometimes better to Japan than to the NA server because I'm not on the east side of NA XD. (Though not bad enough I cant do it, just more important for me to be ready ~.5 to a second sooner than the east).


Best tip to do titan, even if you have medium latency, memorize his patterns- there is about 5-6 seconds between each spell. Do that and you can dodge everything and he isn't so bad. Know your lag time and you can start to dodge plumes before they show up (keep in mind that plumes will probably spawn on other players too so you need to be going into a safe direction).

It is hard to get 8 people together that all of them are immune to the server lag that makes it difficult to avoid mechanics. I personally can't stop moving when plumes are about to be cast because sometimes my receive will spike over 4k. BUT I know the fight I know the patterns of each phase and I know when I need to start moving around to make sure I won't get caught in the middle of a plume, every now and then a big lag spike could make that even more difficult but as long as I'm moving the chances of getting hit are still extremely slim. This still boils down to skill. A skilled player wont complain about a bit of lag he will compensate to overcome it.

I do agree it would be nice for SE to fix these lag issues but it doesn't make these fights impossible, and the OP wasn't only complaining about the lag issues, and stated himself that he wasn't even really geared for the fight. Don't DF Titan, and especially don't do it when you aren't geared for it, unless you like frustration.

yeah, we got "Titan's skill rotation" lists as a "fix" for that. which helps partly due to the same .3s server tick (plumes appear where you were .3s+ ago).
what bothers me personally as a healer is utter chaos i see in relation to other party members and aoe. sometimes they are clearly IN the radius and dont get hit (yes i watch party members to get the target/heal ready if they eat bad stuff).
and i can't. it just doesn't work. you basically have only their HP bar to figure out if they were hit.
skill and memorization (though it is wrong that people can't react and have to memorize, imo) is great, but when stuff going on the screen is so delayed and means squat — it is a problem.

PErsonally, for me.

Most of the frustration with fights like Titan and Hydra are the latency of the attacks.

I am out of it but still get hit by the attacks.

I personally have had far more trouble with Hydra than Garuda. Hydra is just BS and so is Titan.

There is a fine line between challenging and BS.

Titan is BS...

Two things that are make me wonder:

1) Ifrit/Garuda are very pugable and fairly easy to understand + see the pattern. Mean while Titan is like a HM boss from hell that requires extreme coordination, committing to memory a complex rotation, a A+ connection (preferably next door to where the servers are), and needs a team of expert/well geared raiders. The leap of difficulty is massive compared to the first two HM trials...and that is weird.

2) Ground AoE and lag in this game do not go well, it's pretty terrible. I can be moving the INSTANT an AoE appears, move well out of it, and still get hit. There is absolutely no room for error and often requires you to predict it well in advance. I guess we will have to wait for a DBM mod comes out when they allow us to mode the UI eh?

I bet no one remembers stacking eruptions when you couldn't stun ifrit.

You know how bad Ifrit would be with the pugs these days if you couldnt stun eruption?

it would still be easy, people are just lazy and expect the tank to stun them.

Anyways, it's kinda of a downer that fight to be hard have to rely on oneshot mechanics. On that SE has only to learn from WoW. And truth be told i hope they learn to pick the best from the raid mechanics in wow, cuz i love this game, but as it stands now the best fight in the game it's garuda imo, mechanics wise, the rest are a bunch of "OHLOLONESHOT" crap.

Before the white knights come in to the rescue, i think titan is bs cuz of the server lag. You can't demand ABSOLUTE precision in movement with a .3s delay from the server. It just doesn't work, you can work around it, but its not supposed to be like that, right now titan is BROKEN. Garuda on the other hand require positioning without making it just obnoxious, requires dps and add managament, all in a easy to figure, challenging and rewarding to master fight.

I just... what? I'm always the last one standing in Titan HM. I've checked people, and 9 out of 10 times, it's a PC player. That's because PC is the more popular console for this game by a large margin (80% PC / 20% PS3.)

You should definitely keep an eye on that irrational stereotyping. I've heard it can grow out of control.

I just though I'd highlight this point. To make things easier, I'll just refer to the two 'groups' as the 'haves' and 'have nots'. You can apply this to clearing Titan, or being 'good' at your class or whatever, it doesn't really matter. Yes, there are definitely 'haves' that are complete douchebags with poor social skills that will get up someone for the smallest mistake, however there are also those with enough knowledge and social experience to realise people won't get better by shouting at them. Adversely, there are 'have nots' that are humble and take advice on and actually improve, then you have 'have nots' that are as the above quote points out; overly defense, rude and think their shit doesn't stink (delusional have nots? same traits could be applied to delusional haves).

Ultimately it is about attitude. Most Titan threads are "OMG this is bollocks, Titan is IMPOSSIBLE, game is broken" with the occasional "There is nothing I can do about it; anyone that has beaten Titan is ignorant/elitist". Even with this instant negative grounding for the thread, some of these so called 'elitist' attempt to offer advice (generally not in the friendliest manner since the thread is already grounded in negatively/set up for an argument) and is often ignored. Of course you have your players that come in with "Learn2Play", but if you worked in a store and someone came in carrying on about how cooking instant noodles is bullcrap and impossible because they can't do it, then when you told them how, they spat it back in your face and called you an elitist, how would you react? What happens when this happens over and over again? Eventually you're conditioned to responding with 'you're bad, learn2instantnoodle', because even if there is a chance the response is different, based on past experience it is going to be the same.

I personally haven't seen a thread that is legitamately asking for advice for Titan (or otherwise) where the OP actually gives detailed information about what is going wrong, asking how they can fix it, and actually taking on advice. There was one thread where someone gave a pretty detailed scenario, however it was laden (and even stated) with undertones of "this is impossible to avoid, it is all RNG whether you live or die", and even after been given advice on how to avoid/improve the scenario, they completely ignored it, and repeated the scenario as a reason 'why' the fight was impossible and RNG based.

TL;DR: There are poor attitudes on both sides, and they feed off of each other. Generally speaking, the 'have nots' are no more victims than the 'haves' are, unless you want to class them as being victims to their own attitudes, and thus the responses they bring on themselves in turn. The stereotype, or human belief that those with less are the victims, and those successful or with more are the bad guys has no place in an MMO. The 'haves' didn't get there by exploiting or using the time/labour of others, they got there through hard work and dedication (and maybe a bit of luck).

I find the Titan fight refreshing. I'm the kind of person that isn't discouraged by a difficult boss but rather pumps me up to get what I need to beat it. I'm currently in denial about needing a full set of darklight gear to approach him, but I'm thinking more and more that it needs to happen.

It's funny though how the game went from insanely easy to - Ifrit HM somewhat easy... Garuda HM a pain in the rear... Titan HM ....speechless....

One thing I'll say though...the difficult part of this isn't so much the fight but the fact that there needs to be constant communication with a game that doesn't have a built in chat system. I am sure I look like an absolute tool to my wife who is sitting there playing a PS3 game and has the laptop next to me with Raidcall on/headphones so that I can cooperate with my team during this fight.... All games that require cooperation need to have voice chat... Call of duty would never have been so successful if you could only type.

Yeah I gave up on Dealing with Titan as well. It really is just a horribly designed fight. I paid for a run because I pay a sub to see content not be blocked by 1 horrible fight. I almost quit because the fight made me so angry figured 700k isn't a lot of Gil for me anyways

He might not want to do Coil. I just beat Titan HM for my WHM relic and I don't really have any intention of doing it until a while later, if at all.

Titan HM is required for your relic weapon. Coil is a dungeon made to keep the super endgame-focused players something to do while they get new content available.

How about nerfing FATE's....That way perhaps you will actually have to be able to PLAY your job for endgame.

Smashing your face against Titan does not prepare you in any way for coil. Smashing your face against coil prepares you for coil. The encounters are going to be completely different. That's like saying if you practice ifrit you will be good at Garuda... That's not how it works... If anything I sped my progression up and came out with a sweet weapon

I've tried group shouts, putting together groups, yada yada the whole nine yards. The community for an ENG speaking player for hard runs just isn't there. Everyone I know atm whose ENG and has beaten Titan has gotten lucky with the 3%-5% win rate from DF.

No matter your server, if the content is aimed to be done within a community, your only option shouldn't end up being the DF.

More Options should be put on the table, Like a Community Finder next to the Duty Finder.

Hate on PS3's, at least form me, isn't really stereotyping... It's an opinion based on my observations. E.g. our first Garuda Attempt I had a conversation that went something like this,

-> "How come you keep standing in the eye of the storm"
<- "I'm lagging really bad and can't move out fast enough"
-> "Why don't you just stand with us in the first place and move when we move"
<- "It's hard to see where I am going"
-> "Why?"
<- "I'm on PS3"
-> "So, it's playable on Ps3"
<- "Well my TV is 13 inches and it's not HD"
.........

99% of people on a PC have at least 1280X1024, most have 1920X1080, and people like me have 2560X1440. Hardcore gamers on PC's have expensive rigs (mines worth about $3000 total) and we spend weeks or months reading/learning what IT Skills we need to maximize the performance of our rigs.

So to resummarize, my hate isn't against the PS3 player base in general, it's against people with the lack of technical knowledge to allow themselves to play the game the best they can. E.g. Using a 13" TV, or expecting to be able to do titan on an HP Pavilion with stock GPU and 300Watt PSU. I mean it's 2014, anyone playing games and calling themselves a Gamer should know how to hook up an HD TV, swap in a new keyboard, install a new GPU, upgrade a PSU, run a wired network, etc etc etc.

And TBH If the PS4 were to come out and everyone got one, and everyone used an HDTV then the overall experience of the player base would be better because PS4's unlike PC's are optimized OOTB and they are more capable of handling the game than some people's PC's.

So for me it's more along the lines of frustration because I spent months tweaking/upgrading my PC and mazimizing it's performance, Weeks Of benchmarking and overclocking so that I could have the best playing experience possible when this game came out. Then I get in there and am forced to run a lot of content with a lot of people (which I'm fine with content wise) and not being able to down it because 50% of the people I run content with LAG or Fail on movement and blame their PS3, Old PC, LAG, Wifi, Their ISP etc etc etc.

I mean I challenge anyone to make be believe legitally that the problem is SE's Servers In Montreal. On every occassion I've found where someone blames that on their failure to get out of red circles I've been able to point my finger at something on their end. Their ISP is Dialup, their PC is up to spec but their PSU is being chocked (300 watts), they only have 256 meg of ram, Their PS3 is on a WIFI adapter over a 3G network, they share 512kbps with 10 people in one house, etc etc etc.

16 GB of ram @ 2000Mhz

And I have the 100/10 internet package from Comcast the best they offer in my area.
And I still experience the massive delay that is built into SE's server. Its there its real, and I can only assume it is worse on cheap hardware.

PS4 will not solve this issue, in fact I highly doubt it will run any better than a 4 year old pc from Dell-"Alienware"

My PC can run this game just fine at stock settings, It may drop a few fps in a busy town but I could remove a video card and set my CPU back to 3.2 and run it at 60fps constant in every dungeon. This game is not graphic/ cpu intensive and appears to be coded very well. The only issue is the server delay.

You are using AMD cards, and the're 6800's at that. This game has been proven many times over to prefer Nvidia cards atm. AMD guys are pretty much screwed atm. Get a 660GTX or better (preferably a 760) and it will run a TON better.

I had the exact same card but I had two of them and they were in CrossFire and the game ran like shit. Get an Nvidia card like a 760 and you won't have any issues.

Now I'm not saying the AOE thing is a non issue for me, but its significantly better than others I see. I can run out of AOE at the last second and make it. The only time I get hit is if he's casting it as I'm running out of the red. Which is fine.

People rely on the red areas to much, they are not exact. They are more there to get you to react to something, not to exactly represent the window of the AOE attack. What that means is if you watch the casting bar on some fights with Red Areas on the ground the casting bar ends before the red area disappears. If your in the red when the casting bar ends your getting hit.

However some mobs don't cast, they just shoot something off but there is still red there. For such encounters you have to watch the boss animations and learn what the trigger is for the landing of the attack and you need to be out before that animation drops. Some of these fights require people to watch the boss and just use the red circle/aoe areas as a kind of visual que.

It's not the rigs... You sound very unintelligible about whats going on in game... There are clear and obvious server side lag issues skipping etc in duty finders and in high populated areas that are not a fps issue... Anyways titan is a pointless fight with no rewards that's just a gate from real endgame with real rewards...

How about we don't regionalize servers, oh wait.

Before all that happened in 1.0 I did most of my groups for ifrit extreme with JP's, JP /shout are far better than NA /shout groups on average, and I don't know a single word of JP. JP's respect and remember people who can play well, if you play badly never expect another invite because the word will get around. Based on the amount you wine, you prob be bad.

IF my FPS is sitting at 60-120 constant then My PC specs have absolutely nothing to do with the delay.

Benchmark the game... I'll beat you with an equivalent Nvidia Card all day long, challenge accepted. Also go look at the benchmark thread from pre launch, Every equivalent Nvidia build beat it's amd counterpart. I couldn't find one AMD card that benched higher than an equally priced Nvidia card.

Let's also not forget the game is running on DirectX 9 atm, and will get bumped to 11 somewhere around the ps4 version time frame which should make PC/PS4 players have a much better experience.

FFXI likes Cuda Cores and Physx Better atm.

Also keep in mind AMD has been having serious drivers issues lately and just recently released the beta driver for the crossfire frame pacing feature. Nvidia's drivers are solid right now.

I don't lean one way or the other. But I analyzed this game for weeks on tons of benches, cpu, etc and determined that 2nd gen intel + nvidia card was the way to go, costs about 200$ more than an amd build I could have gotten, but performs a lot better.

And I'm not disaggreeing that some people are having lag issues that are server issues. What I am saying is that people like me are able to do the content regardless with minimal issues. If you can't get out of aoe (your off by 1 second or so) it's latency (distance to server) or setup isn't optimized.

Do I expect people to pay $$$ to compensate, no, but you can and it works, so if you can compensate and you have the $$$.... People need to update their pc's eventually anyways. You can't expect to play every game for years to come on a pc from 2010...

And I'm sure optimization tweaks will come eventually.
