hold on there you got to add in the last min pre-orders and buys so they may of not had time to add them all in as well

Could not have said it better myself. I particularly like the "They're doing everything they can" part of the OP's thread. Everything they can means you don't let a week go by with almost unplayable servers before you decide to do anything about it. Everything they can means they fix the same errors they were getting in beta/pre-release instead of sitting on their thumbs. Guild Wars 2 had a rocky start, but they had their shit within 24 HOURS! They didn't say "we're doing everything we can" and let the same problem fester for a week.
Yes, I am fed up , but I am being patience.
I do feel a bit discriminated that Japan had a much better launch then the USA. I believe they should allocated at-least 1/3 added servers to the USA/EU at start up.
It would at least be cool create a character so can join your friends, when got this.

The severs issues even worst. I would start over if , IF I was able to get back to my friends.
1. People paid to play a game, not beta test. The lack of a queue shows nothing short of contempt for the player base in my opinion.
2. "This explains it's self, the number of players was not and could not be foreseen" ..are you really this dense? Couldn't foresee? The massive number of beta applications and pre-orders should have been the first clue.
3. Have some respect? Are you serious? Maybe they should show some of that for the players.
As a business owner, I'm frankly jealous of SE. The level of fanboyism from their players is astonishing. They could literally walk up and kick some of the people in the nads and they would thank them for it. You and a lot of others here obviously have no concept of customer service. If you're fine with being treated like crap by SE then fine. You certainly have that right...but what you DON'T have the right to do is tell others how they should react so such a massive fail on SE's part.
the problem really arises with error 1017 is that it tells you that the world sever is full but where is the indication? Who do we know that the server is full and furthermore, how do we know when there is a slot that is open for our character to fill. thats the major issue thats peeving a lot of players off.
the vague "Please try again" is not helpful in the slightest bit and maybe adding the queue counter back or better yet when you do manage to land in the queue and it drops down to 2 and suddenly you get slapped with 1017, how about fixing that. i mean if your in line and you have a queue number, its kind of an insult to take that spot away for someone else that cut in line
My game server is always full! I wish SE share-holders get a headache which stops only when the server will be open for players.
The news -was- that in a weeks time SE would increase there server capasity or what ever they call it.
Thing is the week is almost over and they only managed to increase INCREASE the number of servers you CAN NOT create a character.
Next news prolly wil be that it wil take SE another week to solve the issues with the servers... or -I find this more likely by the day- start using the infamous SOON remark.....
It's a great game... IF it let's you play that is...
I'm surprised by how patient I've been with the full servers, though it's annoying, I have other things to do to pass time. Plus I saw this coming during release.
I wouldn`t be so upset if there was a que timer for those of us waiting to play the game... I wouldn`t mind if the que was 20000+ but right now the login system is COMPLETELY RANDOM.
For example:
Today I try logging on at 8:30ish am with my husband.... 20ish minutes later he logs into the game and can play.... I`ve been trying ever since then and haven`t been able to connect. The login system is flawed... I`m sure others like me would prefer to wait our turn in line instead of having to refresh every 5 sec (which I can`t believe is better on their servers... then a que system that is actually functional).
I bought the game because I wanted to play with friends, can't even create a character on the same server let alone log into one.
I am brand new to the MMO world. As I am primarily a console gamer I don't know what a typical MMO launch is supposed to be. I just know between the beta and actual game I have spent the last week looking at error messages and checking my internet more then playing the game. It is hard to be patient when there is no definitive answer of EXACTLY when and how SE is going to make this into a usable game instead of headache where I'm looking at bunch of error messages and codes. This is not the Matrix.
Don't get me wrong. I think the game has great game POTENTIAL, but potential is worthless without followthrough and execution.
OP you are everything that is wrong with humanity, defending shit not even having reasonable arguments ....
Xiraiya you are one of those kids that kissed the teachers *** in school! The issue of not being able to log in to a game that I have purchased and being highly pissed off is acceptable and expected. I don't care what their expectations were as far as subscriber numbers and their hardware being able to handle the demands, I don't care about their technical issue excuses, what I care about is not being able to access a service I paid for period! The server issue should have been fixed within 48 hours max, buy new servers and replace, instead we get hardly any input from Square Enix and we still cant log in in 5 days after launch, WTF this is a complete fail and your ***kissing Xiraiya just pisses me off!!
Fix the damn log in issue already! Square Enixs excuses at this point have a maximum range of ZERO! I paid for a service and I expect to have access to it, I don't care about what Square Enix excuses are, they are not my problem, they are Square Enixs failure, get it fixed now no more bull**** excuses!!
I gave my money to SE with the agreement that they would provide me with a product and a service. I have neither. Yet, somehow, I'm the one that's wrong for feeling entitled? For those that share the "this is how the adult world works, child" opinion:Quote:
Have some respect, they are dealing with everything as well as any company can, don't act entitled, because you aren't losing out.
If SE were a theater, they would sell a limited number of tickets for their limited number of seats. Instead, they throw caution to the wind and only stop selling tickets to the show once the theater is so full that only the revelers in the front row can enjoy themselves -- marginally. The attitude stinks of greed, but is more likely poor (no) foresight and incompetence.
- I gave my money to a nice lady this morning for my coffee and biscuit. She gave me my coffee and biscuit. If she could not provide the coffee and biscuit for any reason, she would refund me and apologize profusely.
- My employer put another check in my bank account today as part of the agreement that I would provide my time and service to them. If I didn't provide my side of the bargain, I would get no check and probably be fired.
- I gave my money to SE 1 week ago, and have been given a new reason every day for why I could not take advantage of the product and service that I purchased.
Yes, there are 30 more days of free game time, and possibly years of total time left; but when I get up at the crack o' dawn to get some "me" time in because it's the only time I have available, I want the product and service I paid for immediately.
+ The little sheep agreeing with him talking about their red mage real life custom and stuff to distract from the point that all you say is empty words and clearly demonstrate you'll take everything as face value. You take a PR letter by a company and actually think it's the truth.... How ridiculous is that?
Fail Fantasy XIV: A Realm Unreachable
Respect? Where is THEIR respect towards customers that in good faith ALREADY PAID for a service that is not working? I have given them my money to do whatever they need to do to have the game up and running and playable. They took it with both hands and...spend it on cookies or something?
We don't act entilted, we ARE entitled by being a consumer and a paying customer. If in the slaving shithole where you live this is a foreign notion, understand that in normal countries each and any paying customer is entitled to receive the goods he paid for. Not to sweet talk, not to appologies, not to smiles but to the actual product. And that's the only thing we want now. No, they don't deserve any patience, they don't deserve any understanding. It's their fault if they could not estimate the number of players (and thus number of servers), it means they're a crappy gaming company. It's their fault they couldn't forsee this after such a HUGE beta period. If that's inconclusive, how about an OPEN BETA you incompetent bunch? Obviously, we, the paying idiots, are currently in full open beta phase...
And finally, I believe both you, your white knight order and that buffoon yoshi are still living in 1995 when servers=physical servers. FFS we live in the age of cloud computing, virtualization, do you know how friggin' easy is it to rent such options? It's a matter of 1-2 days to set everything up. And that's exactly why solutions such as these have been invented: to cater to temporary high loads that will soon disappear. But these guys are living in a damn stone age of technology.
Here's another solution that can be implemented in 10 minutes: a friggin' kick-after-15-min-afk option! The servers are now packed full with idiots that will not log out because they know they will not be able to reconnect on these shitty servers. Because they're full. By idiots that never log out. See a pattern?
And yes, flipping out and going on forums DOES help because otherwise everyone will live with the impression that everything is OK, there are no issues, etc. Everyone needs to know how shitty SE handled the re-launch, what an embarrasingly bad job they did so people can decide well-informed wether or not they agree to pay these clowns for months to come or chose another company/product. The gaming media also needs to know this to drive SE to the ground so maybe on the third re-launch they'll reconsider how they treat their playerbase or go do agriculture or any other shit, because clearly they suck at MMOs.
Completely agree Drojdier. When you PAY for a service AND a game, you should make damn sure that the consumer gets what they paid for. Even if they gave us all a free month/other amount of game time that would solve a LOT of hate/resentment right now. There's multiple things they could be doing, and they are doing the worst/slowest resolution possible. I work a lot - I've seen the opening creds, and the tutorial, I haven't been able to play at ALL this whole time - I played the original at launch too, and this sort of thing is what made us all leave in the first place - incompetency.
The idea that we shouldn't be frustrated or that we are somehow flawed in our persons for being frustrated at this situation is both misguided and demeaning. I'm glad that you are able to be so sanguine about the situation, but that does not mean that yours is the only appropriate response. Some people have very limited free time, and perhaps structured their time & schedule accordingly, days or weeks in advance, to be able to enjoy their purchase as planned & as promised by SE. Having that denied, anger & frustration does not seem unreasonable to me.
Would you not be angry if you made reservations at a restaurant weeks in advance, only to show up and have the restaurant say, "We're sorry, but we cannot serve you right now because we're so busy. But you should be happy! We're doing well to be so busy, and that should be enough to make you happy because you wanted our food enough to make a reservation yourself!" Hardly a soothing response.
The idea that they have been so unexpectedly successful also does not excuse the situation. First, they had a good idea based on beta participation & pre-orders about what their launch volume would be. They either misread or ignored that data, and rightfully deserve to be upbraided for this. Even absent that data, it is not a very good business practice to not at least be prepared for success.
The idea that many mmo launches go poorly or even worse than this one also does not excuse this situation. In fact, that makes SE even more culpable: There is so much history in the industry to tell of the potential pitfalls and problems of a launch, SE should have learned enough from all of that to have launched smoother than this. Especially given that many mmo launches in the past few years have been very smooth compared to this, showing that it is indeed possible to have a fairly smooth launch; SE simply failed in this.
The point is, different responses to this situation-- including both anger and patience-- are alright. But just because yours is patience doesn't mean that anger is wrong, nor that SE didn't mess up here-- they did. And saying "No, there is no SE problem, you're the one with the problem" is simply ridiculous. You wouldn't blame the customer if the cook burned their steak, would you? Guessing not, then simply accept that some people are going to be frustrated and angry, and that's okay.
i think everyone id fed up with it. there is no reason for them to be having this issue. they will soon lose MASS amounts of there players and fix the problem btu the game will die.
Exactly! Many of us have jobs, families and thus very limited and random free time. So when you finally manage to get 1-2 hours of spare time to enjoy some gaming, you end up staring at login screen for the whole time. How can that not be frustrating? Even Dalai Lama will go "fuck this shit!"
Precisely! I cannot understand how people can accept bad treatment time and time again, and even worse, end up considering they actually deserve it! There is a fine line between being decent and being a fool. We already had the decency to try for a few hours to login, but we are not fools to just say "hey, it's ok, I won't feel frustrated, I'm glad that I was at least able to pay you. So good that the payment servers are working soooo smooth!"
*Claps* Thank you! Is all I have to say.
EDIT: Okay never mind I am going to have to say something sense people are dense. I agree, you should have respect because they are working their asses off to get this game up and running correctly, Yoshida even mentioned TWICE that they are working AROUND THE DAMN CLOCK to get YOU PEOPLE in the game and having it working properly. It's just so sad that people would have no respect at all for how much they work on this game. You would have no idea how many MMO's I have played where the gaming company doesn't even give two shits about errors or even the community in general. If you ask me, Square-Enix is doing a good job trying to handle all of this stuff at once WHILE keeping the community updated (Which MANY MMO companies to not do).
And to end this, It happened. The server is full, the game has errors. It happened. Complaining over and over again isn't going to adjust the past. At least you know they are working their asses off to fix it all.
What concerns me the most is the possibility that this will never get better. In every MMO there are servers that are just permanently full. I applied for the Beta and bought the game on launch day precisely to get early access to Leviathan, a server my WoW guild has transferred to.
I logged on at 6 PM central (after work) on launch day and Leviathan was full. It has not come up for access even once since then.
My fear is that SE won't actually improve this situation, they'll just add additional worlds without resolving the concurrent login cap. If we have to wait for people to hit level 30 before they start to log out, should I Just pay for service without being able to play until then? There's no world transfer service, so I have no incentive to log onto a less congested world and build my character while I wait.
For a game that urges you to "make sure you all select the same one" when choosing a world at the character creation screen, it's frustrating that I can't do that.
Is this all so we don't break the duty finder again? I'd rather be able to play without instances than not at all..
i agree with this and the only thing I can add is that I try not to get upset about not playing a game, but it's hard not to when you can't play it at all. I don't have the time to sit and wait to play a game all day when I work. When I get home I don't feel like hitting start, character and then see 1017 for about an hour. I'll play something else or just watch something. Im not getting the errors that some of the other folks talk about, but can you really blame people for being upset? I haven't been able to play at all the last 2 days because I dont have the patience to click and hope I get in.
After playing just about every MMO that's made its way to the US in the past 10 or so years, I've come to expect these teething issues. BUT!!! This is going on far, far too long and I've finally reached my breaking point. I'd actually let it all slide if they'd ever do anything more than "apologize" and force us to sit and wait. Some sort of incentive or reward, no matter how small, would go a long, long, long way to relieve a bit of my anger and frustration. This is beyond the point of ridiculous.
click start, click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click star, click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click start, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click start, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click start, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click start, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click start, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click start, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok, click star, Click character, log in, 1017, hit ok. Keep doing this for 1-3 hours, click quit. RAGE.
THIS IS NOT FUN, so we people DO have the right to get angry. doing that for 3 hours is torture.
Im losing game time over this I've been trying for an hour to get onto my server :/
Their best is not good enough, simple as that. Either because of poor planning, lack of proper financial investments, lack of knowledge, lack of enough employees the worst happened. But hey, no one says everyone has to be good at launching and handling MMOs; obviously SE can't do either.
BUT! When you sell a product, you have to deliver it. They should've sold less copies. They should've toned down their PR campaigns to attract a number of players that they can properly handle. They should've bought more servers ahead of time. Most companies that launch MMOs nowadays have several servers already installed and in stand-by, in case the ones offered at launch are not enough.
Furthermore, complaining is not about the past, it's about the present!!! We cannot play NOW! So people will complain until someone does something to address the issue and make it so we can use the service we paid for. Unfortunatelly there is no international consumer rights organization to call to, so we use these forums.
Also, what about the communication? Their launcher and the official website and official forum the only announcements are about some JP servers, nothing about NA/EU that cannot even get to character select since early morning. Where the hell should I go for more news rather than the official forum? Reddit? Twitter? Since when are these platforms "more official" than the damn official site? So why exactly isn't there anything about NA/EU situation?
The problem was "not foreseen" due to bad calculations (admitted by Yoshi), not that it "could not be foreseen".
No matter, the solution could have been pre-planned. It's called overflow. You spin up some hardware on AWS or Rackspace, and use it as overflow for your primary datacenter. This isn't new. Any competent architect would have planned for this and had the server images ready to deploy at a moments notice.
You don't make a great game by starting from scratch - you start by standing on the shoulders of giants. However, SE decided to stand on the shoulders of mice.
U know its getting really old how people preach that sony is doing a great job.. I do understand that all mmo have ther problems at release. But as it was said before they should have had a better idea on how many people they needed to be ready for.. hell that is one of the reason of a PRE ORDER, its not like they did not have some numbers to work with. Now with that being said, I could deal with the game probs a lot better knowing that I was not losing the time I paid for already, and yes I know there are going to be some people who say that the so called free 30 day game time that comes with buying the game is free.. but umm not really u had to buy the game right that was worked into the game price.. just cause they say its free does not make it free.
From launch day to the time they get all these huge server problems fix ..if we get that time back as credit on our accounts I can over look the probs cause then Im not atleast losing my money that I spent to buy the game to get the first 30days.
and for you people who say don't blame sony cause there working hard to fix the problems.. umm well are you retarded or something it was there fault for the problems in the first place.. that like saying some guy burns his neighbors house down then says hey I will call the fire department for you.. that's nice and all but does not excuse what was done.
Another SE apologist making excuses for a complete farce of a launch. He openely stated that on the 25th they knew they were going to have server issues. At that moment they should have said EA will end on Sunday and the game will be delayed a week to hep the stability. People would have been upset that the game was delayed, but that is much better than to stop selling the game, then having a million people constantly trying to log in. Not being able to log in for a week is also much better than sitting and spamming HOPING to get it. There is no excuse for this, they still haven't mentioned a free server transfer and even worse said creating a character will take longer than just early in the week. That for means I won't be able to play with my wife or friends for now 2 weeks since early access. Yea, I agree with previous posts STFU and SE should too, fix this sh*t and then give me money back from 3 years ago.
And, where has the Producer been? Out at PAX, PLAYING THE GAME!!! What kind of message does that send? He should be ashamed. You don't need to market the game, when no one can buy it and login! Get your priorities straight!
Yeah, no. Squenix screwed up. I don't know what the hell is wrong with this company and why they have such an excruciatingly difficult time estimating sales figures for their games, but it's seriously ridiculous. They spent $100mil USD on Tomb Raider thinking they were going to sell Call of Duty numbers for some reason, and then they turned around and blamed used game sales and "entitled players" for their 3.4 MILLION SALES and called the game a failure because it couldn't net a profit. Meanwhile, The Last of Us netted THE SAME NUMBER OF SALES and is considered an overwhelming success because Naughty Dog didn't piss away $100mil in production costs.
And now here we are with FFXIV. Squenix for some reason got it in their head that the game was going to do SO OVERWHELMINGLY HORRIBLY that they didn't even bother putting an adequate number of servers in. Their whole data and marketing teams need to be fired. "They're doing the best they can" bullshit they're doing the best they can. They're doing what they think will save them money in the end, because the company is crashing and burning at an alarming rate (seriously, look at their stock numbers). I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even bother putting in new servers at all because they think that half of the playerbase will leave after the 30 day trial anyway, thereby saving them money in the long run.
And for all of you wizards who think you're being clever by saying "every MMO had crappy launches," Guild Wars 2 sure didn't. They had a few bumps that were fixed IMMEDIATELY. Square Enix's lack of response to such overwhelmingly game-breaking problems is insulting, both to us as consumers and to themselves as a company.
You know I would prefer a working queue system. You know like most companies with half the size or money are smart enough to have before their game launches.
There is NO excuse for this to happen. There is NO such thing as unexpected things in a MMO launch. MMO's have been around for long enough that this isn't a "new" thing to happen.
I would rather try to log in. See a queue of over 9000 and be told I have to wait 7 hours to play. Then to sit here, get told world full, and have NO CLUE how long it will take me to get int.
