Atomos: Major annoyance for new players

Like I said in my previous post in this thread, level 50s have just as much chance of being dropped if they port into a camp at the wrong time. In other words: It's not exclusive to new players. New players are not being singled out in this. No one is exempt from it. Didn't know about the Atomos thing and got killed once due to bad timing? Well, now you know and so it shouldn't be a problem.

I got killed, too, because I ported in at the wrong time due to not knowing when it would be spawning. Did I flip out over it? No (thought it was pretty funny, to be honest). I found out the specifics of its spawn conditions, learned when it does and now know to avoid those camps at those times. Problem solved.

Why all this drama over so small a thing?

I came up on Black beard, saw the Atomos, waited for the despawn, went in and in less than 5 minutes it was back

anyway i'm not gonna pick fights cause i'm not an angry person it takes alot too get me angry lol

like i said i have been avoiding the area's where it pops, my husband didn't quit playing in all this time and he enjoys being a higher level, i'm not saying higher levels aren't alout fun at all lol XD and i know i missed alot by not grouping... .

I'm just trying to point out that, yes indeed the world is infact ending and 2.0 is getting near... this will bring hopefully, alot off new players, wich this game NEEDS to be able to survive.

because we enjoy this game... we wonna see this succeed so we can spend another 10 years (or longer or shorter) enjoying this game all together, but if some people on this forum don't better their attitude there will be problems.

anyway that's the last i'll say on here ;P this topic lets face it IS a waste off time and i could be leveling my archer to 20 atm wich i should be doing lol ^-^ have a nice end off the world all and try to atleast enjoy it, atleast we have the pretty red moon above our heads (though it just reminds me to majora's mask lol cant unsee that creepy face on it)

It spawns 18:00 and 00:00 ingame time. The time betwenn 18:00 and 00:00 is shorter than between 00:00 and 18:00

The game is hard. It is still less punishing than EverQuest 2. Low level gear is cheap to repair. It's also temporary, it's a live event that takes place in the open(read: not instanced). There will be casualties.

Honestly, it's like the weather where I live: If it gets hairy, wait 5 minutes.

I started leveling Marauder from level 1 at camp Black Brush because I decided to start cleaning up a few easy achievements for the fun of it. (plus hey, I'll want to get everything to 50 at some point anyway)

Sometimes Atomos would show up by himself, other times him and his buddies. In either case, they were gone in less than the time it took me to complete 1 leve, and from the entire process of level 1 until 10 and I was done with that camp's achievement for leves, I never got wasted by Atomos or his buddies, and I didn't teleport or go out of my way to manage that.

I think people make a waaay too huge deal out of this.
The world is ending, we can expect a few casualities, right?
It's not like only new players die. People on lvl 50 die all the time after teleporting.
Even if you just started playing and read NOTHING about 1.0 coming to an end soon you'd have to notice how the sky looks or how every second NPC you talk to talks about the apocalypse happening soon.
In the last few days, it will probably get even worse, with aetherytes no longer functioning, etc.
The end of the world is obviously NOT going to be convenient but SE is dropping enough clues and is releasing enough information for new players to notice that and enjoy the dangerous, ever changing world we have right now instead of complaining.
SE was really careful about it for a long time - Garlean assaults near the cities were non-aggro so you could just walk through as a low lvl player, Atomos only spawned at 40+ camps, etc.
But to give 1.0 a grand finale they can't keep everything safe forever, otherwise it wouldn't be "grand".

Here's a tip: when you teleport to a camp that atomos is located. Walk don't run until it's clear.

see more tips and information but guarantee some newb will comment on here about the vets being dicks and whine and complain about atomos spawn locations

Tbh, yeah it's not a big deal but still like Xakery said above "some newb will comment how vets are dicks" lol. I think everyone on this forum is so eager to jump to conclusions.

I don't think any noobie here complain about the advice people give - There are people even on this thread who actually explained the event and that really should have been it.

The most vocal newbies are hellbent on starting drama about a few deaths which, like I said before, happens to ALL players, not just newbies.
That's why they react in such an insulting way to any "veteran" trying to actually HELP them by posting spawn times or ways to evade monsters and so on.
So some veterans tend to get all defensive and say things which sound close to "You are a newb so it's only right that you die".
But after all, the Atomos "event" is just that - an event.
All players suffer from dying and all players can enjoy the feeling of doom it's supposed to give them, newbies and veterans alike. So I don't understand how people get off on calling others "pigs" and whatnot instead of just enjoying the event to the fullest while it lasts.
I don't see how this relates to me thinking I'm the center of the world or whatever you were hinting on :|

Not all of us are insensitive to new players. Exculibar is a very freindly server for new players, of course I can't say that Excalibur is immune to jerks as well.

I'm on Balmung now, so far things have been ok. Still a lot of BOTs, but I huess they are everywhere.

What is your deal? "Elitist pigs"? Are you for real?

How many people in this thread have given suggestions and helpful advice to the new players on how Atomos works and how to avoid it? How many people (myself included) have pointed out that it's not just new players who get killed by him, but people of all levels, vets included? That new players aren't being singled out or being treated unfairly here?

If I stroll into Camp Blackbrush on my level 50 DRG while Atomos is there, do you think I'll stand any better of a chance of surviving than a level 1 once a mob or two decide to latch on to me? No. It'll take a couple more hits, but I'm just as dead.

I'm going to be working on THM more in the next few days. It's currently level 7. That means I'll be having to use those same Aetheryte camps as everyone else, Atomos with it. Should I be all outraged that there's a chance I might die if I happen to not be paying attention and teleport back at the wrong time? I don't think so, because I have been given the information I need to make sure that don't happen. It's 100% in my control. I have more chance of dying while doing the leve itself.

It is very easy to avoid Atomos once you know when he spawns, and having to avoid a camp for maybe 10 minutes out of every hour is not going to ruin anyone's day - of course unless they're determined to let it, which seems to be the case with some around here.

There is absolutely nothing elitist about giving new players advice on this. There's absolutely nothing elitist about pointing out that it's not just newbies being affected by it. There's absolutely nothing elitist about pointing out that it's an event happening twice an hour, about 10 minutes apart with roughly 50 minutes of safe time in between. There's absolutely nothing elitist about me pointing out earlier in the thread that up 'til some days ago, I never even encountered Atomos, much less died from him, and I was back and forth to those camps quite frequently.

The advice given to the new players is the same exact advice veteran players have to use if they want to avoid it as well.

Are some people being jerks around here? Of course. Welcome to gaming forums in general. That has nothing to do with being "elitist jerks", though. New players have as much capacity for being jerks as any vet does.

So, please, get off your high horse and quit with the mud-slinging. It isn't warranted.

My "elitist pigs" reference is to those sarcastic negative comments. In other posts, I have said there are friendly, helpfull "vets", but it has been my experience, that they are a minority ESPECIALLY IN GAME.

And remember, 2.0 is coming, and it WILL NEED new players. Without new players, 2.0 won't be able to survive financially.

From what I normally see, new people come on this game, bitch and whine that they aren't end game from day 1, piss off the vets or bug them to death, then quit if their efforts are in vain and go play some f2p mmo.
People who have stuck with this game will continue to stand by this game, give helpful feedback to the changes, and help lead this game into a new era.

no, the new people who just want want want and not willing to work will quit. The others will find a home, hopefully, in this remarkable game.

First off, this has gotten way off-topic. All of the 'how to avoid/why is this happening at low-level camps' questions have been answered.

That said:

Attitude and how you present yourself is everything. Many of the 'vets' did in fact answer the OP's question, yes, some made silly comments etc...although most of the 'silly comments' were based on the 3rd or 4th response being a joke the average newer player took offense to. (Seriously, he WAS teasing, but yes, the end of the world probably should at least mildly inconvience us all).

But the OP was also on the whiny side...no, they didn't just whine the whole post, but basically, they said 'why is this at my low-level camp...it's unfair'. They could have approached it better and instead been like 'Anyone know how to avoid Atmos at the lower level camps? I'm trying to level and he's eating me.' I can promise, the responses would have been helpful, clear and their would have been little to no trolling. Again, both styles of posting got the correct answers, just one invites more attacks than the other.

Also, overall, it's NOT the veterans being rude and arrogant towards the 'newer' players. It's the newer players stirring it up and causing all the name calling. I think the bigger issue with those who are being rude towards vets is that you think they have 'everything' and you have 'nothing'. One of you even said that you don't have a Paragons Crown because you didn't enjoy playing this game when it 'sucked' That's a fair statement, however you can't 'not have played for months' and then expect to be at the same place as those who have.

Look, yes, we need new players to help this game grow....but you all need us too. We help keep the gears/crafting items you can't farm/gather/craft yet in the markets, we know the answers to your questions/ we can help on quests. And many of us do all of this. But at the same time, we can't be expected to do it constantly, nor are we as willing to go out of our way to help the person ALWAYS asking for help...we prefer to help the people who only ask for help as needed but who otherwise, solve their problems themselves. Depending on which side of this fence you are on, you will find vets to be 'nice' or 'mean' BTW, even vets can't always find groups to clear the content they wish to clear.

But none of this has anything to do with Atmos...those questions have been answered:
1. Go to a different camp
2. Walk if he spawns
3. Don't go to 'Atmos' camps between 18:00-00:00
4. Everyone is affected the same
5. Everyone who can get to an 'orange' camp can get the goodies.

remarkable game LOL Have you read the reviews ? Yes the game has improved since release, but it's still got a lot of major flaws, as evident by the low amount of people playing it. Hell, this game is so bad, you can' even find copies of it in stores any more. I had to go to 2 best buys, 1 future shop, and 4 eb games before I was able to find a copy for my "alt".

Yes. I think we all read the reviews of the game in its first few months of release and can all agree that it was a mess and the reviews were abysmal.

It's kinda ridiculous for you to bring up reviews that happened ~2 years ago as the basis for a "present tense" rebuttal, don't ya think? Smells a bit of a desperate attempt to argue even when you don't really have an argument.

Does it still have problems? Of course. But it is nowhere near the way it was when most all those reviews were written. A number of people who wanted to see the game just die and go away back then have actually come back to find the game not only playable, but actually enjoyable. They're now firmly on-board for 2.0.

Do you even remember what the game's population was like back then? I do. It was nothing even remotely close to what it is now.

Maybe you should stop clinging to what the game was like 2 years ago and try coming up to the present where most all those issues have been at least addressed, if not resolved? Stop dwelling on the past, maybe? Leave the past behind? Move on?
