Also thank you for making me appreciate the VAs of languages I never even dared consider good. For the first time ever I listened to the German and French VA... And found them quite great! In fact, the German wukkie VA absolutely slaps. And I'm a German who otherwise automatically shuns our dubs.

You can really tell who puts soul and effort into their craft. Some of the German bits of VA give you literal goosebumps. I could actually feel sad for the character when dad lizard died. Maybe this one VA can just take over the English too. Would even have a natural accent, though not quite the correct one. But who cares, Sena is offensively faking the accent anyways.

Anybody who is seriously claiming there is no difference between the different VAs are trolling at this point. No other explanation for it. Nobody could listen to a comparison, hear the German VA scream and cry in anger and desperation, then hear English wukkie calmly say "oh shucks papa, seems u'r dead." then say they're the same...

I can't state how much i loved the german VA for Wuk. Shoutout to Nell Pietrzyk, she did amazing. :o

This was already linked in another thread, but this scene is just awesome in german. I mean...just listen. That's an emotional delivery if I've ever heard one. Simply impressive voice acting in every way.

Oh yeah i play in german its she is awesome there. Usualy the german Voice Over feels rather restrained but some Voice Actors still give a really good performance.

FOr the record i dont say all the voice actors are the same i just say the English one is fine overall. I heard the english one delivered some good sad and soft performances. :)

I thought her voice was fine. Not gonna win any awards but definitely not bad. If anything, it's the voice direction that's off in DT, but that problem isn't only on Wuk Lamat. It's clear some VAs didn't know the context of their lines.

I was okay with it too, a few misses but nothing new to FF.

The French dub is quite amazing too. It was lackluster in ARR (like, listen to French Haurchefant in ARR, he's literaly reading his lines), but got better and better over the years, I'd recommend trying it out. Especially in Heavensward since it's very French-themed.

When I started playing Dawntrail, I could hardly get anywhere before the hate poured in online. So many people kept posting about hating the English voice, along with a ton of other complaints about the character. But I enjoyed the expansion in spite of these messages. I kept wondering if there was some major blunder later down the line that was, somehow, bad enough to undo all of the prior enjoyment... but that didn't happen.
When I got to the scene where Wuk Lamat breaks the regulator (no further spoilers), I actually thought her vocal expressions were really good. All of the complains I was hearing online immediately felt like hot air in that moment. Did they just pick out 1-2 bad scenes and pretend there aren't any good ones in contrast? Turns out, yes, that's exactly what they did.

Don't be crude and hateful, you're only alienating yourself. Even this thread is getting blind hate placed into the tags at the bottom by strange people who can't accept other viewpoints. Why do that?

i was not impressed with wuk lamat's english va compared to the jp/french/german dubs which were all very good. yoshida should go back to their previous recording studio instead of settling for lazy halfassed american slop

Honestly, every language but English sounds incredible in XIV. I do far have listened to French and Japanese and I can't go back to English afterwards, even if I barely understand what's being said. The direction and casting are more adequate. English Alphinaud and Urianger make my ears bleed.

While I think Wuk Lamat was fine overall and definitely had some really good ENG VA moments (Living Memory, some of her more comical lines), there are definitely other moments where there is missing emotion. However, it seems to also affect more then just Wuk and her ENG VA, for example Yshtola and Krile in some moments.

Whatever studio was used for DT that's different than previously used needs a quality assessment overview done of both production and directorship cause there are noticeable issues that I refuse to believe Yoshi-P and crew just outright missed in their playthroughs. Y'shtola on the bridge post Origenics was noticed by every single person I've spoken about it with for example.

the japanese VA did a good job. character still sucks tho

I’ve only heard the characters EN voice but so far I think she’s doing a great job. No complaints. I don’t have any opinion yet on if I like the character, this game is usually good about showing growth and making you warm up to characters over time. Regardless of if I end up liking thr character or the writing though, the voice actress feels well cast and has unique charm. I’ve very suspicious of all the hate I’m seeing that’s specifically targeting the EN voice actress instead of the character.

On top of the issue with the accent sounding inauthentic and forced (which isn't that unusual tbh, most actors are no good at imitating an accent that isn't their own) - the VA had a bit too much to juggle between the forced accent AND the "cat" voice she was trying to do. I think that maybe, just maybe, she would have done better if she only had to do one of those. The reason for my thoughts are the occasional bits where either the accent or the cat voice slips, and surprisingly... the VA seemed almost better for it. Still not stellar or anything, but better.

Tbh I'm not even sure why they had her do the weird cat voice on top of everything. The German VA is amazing, but it's just a normal, fitting voice, no weird cat stuff. Same goes for the JP VA.

The english VA is simply not good enough, has no voice or acting range. My example of top tier VA would be Masako Nosawa, the voice of Goku:

Here you can hear her do 3 distinct voices and even compare it to her natural voice, not only that, she is voicing Goku in a dialect, which is why Goku speech pattern sounds different to his sons Goten and Gohan, this is to give Goku an air of being a country boy unlike his sons which went to school at the city.

South American here. Going to hard disagree. Her accent barely sounds South American to begin with. Not to mention, any notions of racism is the perception of weirdos on the net that look for something like racism in a video game. If you seek to find something to be offended about, don't be surprised to find it. It's weirdo terminally online behavior to assume racism with real world context in a video game to begin with.

If that's how they wanted the character to sound, so be it. The fact that anyone assumes racism or otherwise is idiocy and immaturity in themselves that they are trying to project onto others.

Partialy it comes from the situation that the Forum seems to be one of the only places were Negativity towards the game doesnt get drowned out by other peopel so it gatheres here.

I've literally never cared about these things, but Wuk's voice is so bad and infact indeed, /racist/, by using the generic intonations witH T, H and R that nobody actually uses when speaking native spanish or portuguese. It ain't terminally online. It's a fact. You're either not actually from SA, or a bit delusional my dude. Combo that with the only food being tacos and all represented cultures being monocultures with no variation, and - again, you're either not actually from South America and just trying to do a funny gotcha, or you're delusional.

Why would I think people are born with accents, and what do you know about her exactly? There’s very very little info out there. You assuredly don’t know who her parents are, and what their accents are like. Why are you gatekeeping the heritage of someone else?

The accent is closer to Spaniard / Cuban / Mexican than any other Hispanic culture. Tacos were one food featured in one local of the expansion and it just so happens tacos (of different forms) are very popular among majority of hispanic cultures and cuisine. That is quite literally the safest food option if I had to chose any one thing that has graced every culture equally. To say otherwise is outright disingenuous.

Beyond that, we can agree to disagree but yeah it's terminally online behavior. First, you take real life and are trying to overly transpose that to a video game. Literally complaining that tacos being a feature is "racist" or stereotypical and not "representation" or whatever bs you convinced your head canon tural should be. Ultimately, Tural is NOT any of these real life locations, so trying evaluate it as such or perpetuate perception onto it is terminally online main character syndrome in full swing. It's not your world to build, it doesnt live off your beliefs either. At best, hispanic cultures are an influence and that's about it. It's not meant to be a 1 to 1.

She’s careful about what roles she accepts because she doesn’t want to take work from other Latino VA’s and usually only takes trans or nb roles because she says she’s the “whitest latino” and recognizes the privilege. Most of this discussion is pretty dumb though because last I checked, the character Wuk Lamat is *checks notes* a cat.

The VA for Hien was doing a great job because he pronounced Japanese names accurately, meaning, with the accented syllable being the first one.

Using the words of a Chinese born actor to try to say that Hien's VA pronunciation of Japanese names it's "offensive", while ignoring the intonation of both languages it's completely different because they are two completely different languages, kind of makes this particular bait even weaker than usual.

On the other hand, we south americans, can indeed pronounce the sound of "ph". When I say "Sphene", it doesn't sound like "Speen".

Why do you have an archive of tweets and why am I even responding to people in here? I just wanted to leave some kind words for someone being harassed. I was naive to think people would be satisfied with the like 8 Wuk bashing threads and leave this one for appreciation as intended. I was naive to think someone trans could voice a cat person without people getting obsessive and weird.
