You do realize the developers that have worked on XVI are the absolute best in the business, yes? XVI will be nothing like Forspoken. You should play the demo before making such a silly comparison.

That's why I hinted that it was pretty much my opinion but I still think it does matter to a lot of people, now graphics are not everything, FFX for example which is very old by now is still the best game ever in my eyes and I replay it once in a while just for the fun of it because the story is absolutely amazing, probably replayed it like 20 times at this point lol
I mean, streams can and do bottleneck graphics quite a bit. The streamer could have also been using the performance mode, which also lowers graphics. Or you could just not like the smooth textures, which is fine!
I personally think it looks really good. I know the smooth textures aren't for everyone, but both myself and my husband were very impressed by the fight between Ifrit and Phoenix. We both thought it was gorgeous. And we thought Titan and Shiva had really good designs.
I didn't watch much passed the fighting tutorial, but I'm hoping that with the less restricted story telling, that it'll be good without feeing campy.
Again, that's all opinion as well, but so far I'm impressed and looking forward to watching my husband play it.
I mean hey I never pretended it was everyone thinking that, it's purely my opinion and as I said above its not all about the graphics, I even mentioned FFX which I find to be the best game ever made (once again my opinion) and yet the graphics are terrible for this day and age, but for it so be "so amazing and excellent", it would need a combo of both amazing graphics and also amazing gameplay and story, so far FF16 hits one of the 3, gameplay being one again my own opinion as I havent liked any of the new combat they started to do after FF12 and graphics just kind of looking mediocre, but its still all opinion and there are no wrong opinions
With that said I do agree that the quality can be tuned down quite a bit on stream and its also a lot less crisp
They added an interesting way to access easy mode. It wasn't accessible from the start, but if you repeatedly died in the same section it would ask if you want to abandon the way of the ninja and accept the title of 'ninja dog' with assists. Also puzzles wouldn't offer any hints at first, but if you were stuck long enough then Ayane would throw in blossom shurikens to guide your path. I thought that guidance system was ahead of its time for mid 2000s. Itagaki was an awesome leader of Team Ninja. He was never one to mince words and I wonder what his opinion of FF XVI would be. I would love to ask him game design questions over a few beers.
You said above there are no wrong opinions yes and no it’s more uninformed personally. Like if I showed you a ton of games on ps3 that look worse even ps4 games you likely wouldn’t concede. There are other aspects here yes 16 isn’t up there with best so far this gen but it’s art direction will carry it like it does with 14. 14 while not being overly pretty is carried by ok textures and good art direction. FFX being your fav is questionable jkjk it’s good I’m personally a FF9 lover. But what 16 does is for around 90% or the time runs in real time… you couldn’t do this on a ps3 or as they’ve said on a ps4 (you couldn’t real time but you could pre render or video format cutscenes to mask loading I suppose) but that didn’t match what they wanted to portray.
The main gripe I have is they have decided to use ray tracing by default which is a notorious performance hit/slog on ps5 and series x. Yeah it makes the PBR rendering and lighting look really nice most of the time but they could have gained so much performance and resolution increase just going with a more traditional lighting/shadow method. Hopefully their fixes alleviate this somewhat down the line but with games like Zelda and Elden ring releasing and being fps dropping prone etc then their would be some double standard those same people moaning here.
To be fair 15 does still look good and man I remember that having like 3 performance modes on ps4 pro lol. 16 does win over it though with better lighting and character models. My main issue with ‘console’ 15 was the like flicker hair bloody ugly that was
AAA gaming in general didn't have significant graphical evolution since first half of 2010s. Witcher 3 is from 2015, FFXV is from 2016, DMC5 from 2019, all of those could easily be released today and would still be praised for their graphics. We've just hit soft cap and everything has diminishing returns. Problem is that latest games for some reason require things like RTX4070+, even though those games look like regular ~2016 titles.
I can agree with most of what you said but in the end it's a little bit like asking someone if they like X game, for example if you ask me if I like those NBA games or Fifa, I'll tell you that damn it sucks, because I just dont like it and I dont like sports, that's basically the same for me and FF16, to me the graphics dont look very good and also I really dislike the combat as I said that came after FFX, it's too "real time" for me, I prefered to have turn based at my own pace.
Also I agree about ray tracing and stuff, it's all about the "shiny" but in exchange the performances are worse and in some cases people have to use performance mode which in the end makes it worse than it would be.
I agree tbh, there was that one game that came recently (maybe even from SE I dont remember) that required the latest intel cpu's to even work and an rtx 4k, and then I looked at the trailer and I was like "really you need this much of a computer for.. this ?"
Speaking of PS3 graphics:

Yeah, it gets super uncanny valley if you push further, these days it's more about objects in a scene and lighting/shader stuff than raw graphical fidelity maybe the only exception to that rule is games with machines rather than Humans/biological things as the player entity. But even then a lot of the big selling points for those games have become more about the simulation than graphics over the years "Look how our tyre dynamically cools when it hits a puddle on the track meaning a loss of grip for the player" for example. Ace Combat 7 and its volumetric clouds being another.
Unfortunately it is true. The newer games have vastly increased minimum requirements without a real graphical improvement. I guess, the lack of proper optimization is the reason for it. Good performance is a so called "non-functional requirement". And non-functional requirements are usually not a selling point and there is not much budget for them.
Cheers
Plus one more. PS3 is big jump over PS2. But the PS2 gen was the first time they could push enough polygons to have realistically proportioned characters in full 3D environments, so maybe that felt like a more impressive jump. I was actually arguing for them to extend that gen even longer with a PS2 Pro kind of thing, including a hardware upscaler, HDMI and network features. I'm so off topic but anything is more interesting than talking about FF XIV right now.
PS3 lol. PS4 maybe, but I do agree with the overall sentiment. It looks okay, but games like Demon's Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, even FFVIIR look much better, and perform much better. I'm not sure why they're struggling so much with performance when it doesn't look like next gen at all.
Thank you lol, I thought it was very much self explanatory that it was exaggerated for the sake of making a point that it wasnt like "extremely innovative and amazing looking", but obviously it went over their head
I was obviously exaggerating really to make a point that it wasnt that "amazing innovation" graphic wise, it's meh, but yeah I dont know what they are doing with performances tbh, they are trying to put glitter on everything and in the end it just looks "meh" or just has terrible performances (or both)
Excessive gore and foul language diminishes the "dark theme" in story telling and just makes it look more edgy rather than dark.
Older FF games has already touched on dark subjects like chemical warfare, genocide, human experimentation, fates worse than death, child/teen student soldiers, the tragedies of war etc.
I wouldn't really call it excessive, the reality is people using foul language in stressful situations isn't uncommon nor infrequent and I think the entertainment industry has almost sanitized what combat looks like, I'm reminded of when Saving Private Ryan came out and people being shocked at how gorey the Omaha beach scene was.
Spoiler for the demo
The initial stream of F bombs when you're dodging rocks in the first scene? Yeah, I've said that out loud playing a game before when trying to dodge things. I grew up on an Army base and I have a filthy mouth. It felt very realistic to me.
I'm confused as to why people are unhappy with the game? Endwalker was incredible, made me cry so hard to see the finale, why do I see people complaining that the game is "hollow" etc.?
Because everyone who has issues with the story: Endwalker has plenty to show, but no sustenance at all. (I'm on this boat.)
Pretty much like GoT Season 7/8, the show had... ideas for the story. The execution was lackluster at best, downright horrible at worst. Too much plot armor, characters doing stupid sh’t or nothing at all, retconning, too much stuff packed into a single season, questionable plot points...
It's a great ride as long as you don't dig deeper than the surface.
Actually a great point, Endwalker just felt a bit lacking in hindsight there was no big ending to the scion's storyline which was inferred by Yoship that 7.0 is a whole new story. I am fine with some of the lesser scions e.g Estinien and krile taking a more leading role. TBH I just want my Gaius and Estinien buddy cop expansion tbh
bro this is an mmo the msq is like 10-33% of your playtime
i liked the story too but it's like barely 10% of my 6.x playtime
not talking about you but yes i know there are people where the msq is like 100% of their playtime but they have like 2000 posts on the forums, i have no idea what they're thinking and why they're even here defending the game non-stop (maybe having 90% of your "playtime" be defending the game on the forums is good content for them)
but for most people who aren't just expansion subbers, the msq is a minority of your playtime
I wouldn't exactly say "emotion = good" but other people do have their own benchmarks.
I can't vouch for anyone but I can say I really didn't like the whole Hermes/Meteion thing. A stupid boy who can't process emotions shouldn't make a telepath/empath and multiples of said thing and send it around the universe and not see this was going to be a bad thing. The fact everything was based off of that moment was stupid.
However I did like they are implementing duels finally. They did great work with the real final fight and it went so well they fixed the double shield boy joke of a fight trial and made it into a real proper duel. Much respect to that character now. He is a major badass.
There was quite a few things in story I disliked, but what I hated the most is that there never was anything at stake. Sure, world is ending blabla, but that happens all the time, even now Golbez is trying to do that or whatever he's doing. Nobody relevant died, just some civilian causalities. No Scion died, no sacrifice, everything was conveniently handed to us. Zenos even felt like he could kill Endsinger by himself if he really wanted.
Here are how solid stakes are supposed to look like, taken from FFXV (obvious super heavy spoilers about FFXV ahead):
Luci' bloodline is only thing that can defeat Starscourge/Ardyn, but even they couldn't do it at the start. They needed to pass their power from generation to generation to accumulate it. This also meant that each successor had shorter lifespan because of all the power he held. Until Noctis becomes the destined one, who must finally end Ardyn. After many trials and struggles, partnering with gods/primals, after death of his fiance, he kills Ardyn (he's immortal though), and then he proceeds to use all the power from his predecessors to get into the FFXV's version of lifestream/Aetherial Sea, where he deals final blow, finally killing Ardyn and sacrificing himself. He dies right after, there are no cheap tricks that help him survive, he just fulfills his tragic destiny and sacrificed himself for the greater good.
Meanwhile, FFXIV EW clown fiesta: Lol, let's just time travel to the start of time. Sweet, Sharlayans already conveniently made a means to travel to Aetherial Sea, so we can have a chit chat with literal god, no price, no consequences, only ponies and rainbows. And while we have chit chat with literal goddess, we might as well use her to make some Shell V-Power to fuel our space rocket, which Sharlayans also conveniently have. Then just kill depresso bird, where nobody dies, no sacrifices needed, power of friendship and anime is all we need.
This is my main gripe with 6.0: the story just doesn't feel real. Even the few stakes that exist feel very artificial. And after we time traveled and killed entity stronger than god, what else is there to do? I bet we lose gift of light in 6.5 or start of 7.0, but we still know that time travel and similar story-ruining elements are possible in the story.
As for 6.X MSQ, that's just bad, I don't think it even needs explanation. I bet it wasn't even meant as MSQ, but it was scrapped trial storyline.
It's hollow in the same way a typical Marvel movie is hollow. If you turn your brain off and look at the pretty lights on the screen, it's pretty alright. If you use your brain even a little bit, the whole thing falls apart and it's hot garbage.
Honestly, if the Golbez storyline was meant to be a trial series, that would explain a lot about the general low quality and need to insert filler into 90% of the patch length.
Not to mention "Oh Thancred just died... then Estinien... now Y'shtola but she's all like 'let us do this you can just bring us back later once we make these bridges for you'". There was no sense of urgency or danger, it's just like every member of the group said "here's my chance to make a big heroic speech about hope to these beings who aren't even real and then wait to get brought back from time out". I honestly hope we get rid of Azem's crystal, it's such a deus ex machina tool. At least before things made sense - the WoL was gathering other people protected by Hydaelyn to deal with the primals. Now it's just... I'm gonna summon all of my copies of myself with all powerful crystal of seemingly infinite magic!
Sounds like you need a hug
