No thanks that would be awful. They need to make them look good.
Y'now, I know someone who has had the opposite perception, he completely failed to perceive fem Au Ra or Miqos as cutesy in any way because the primary exposure to those races are Sadu and Y'shtola respectively, and it only clicked in place they are meant to be when he made alts of those races, when he was confused on how he managed to completely miss those elements, I pointed out that Sadu and Y'sh very rarely emote(in the sense of using animations that we can use by typing commands in chat), and when they do, they use a very select few emotes, cuz if they used the general selection from their races, they'd give off the completely wrong energy than the writers intend out of them.
And hey who said that tiny ladies can't be awesome?
Almost nobody ever said that. Most people (except a tiny minority) prefer tiny ladies. There isn’t one western dude I ever met who said tall girls are better, on the contrary and we can see this in game as well by having au ra and miqo as the most played race by both women or men.
Whenever I meet another fellow Viera lady, most of the times it’s a woman irl as well, yet when I bump into tiny ladies there’s a high chance thats a dude.
You don't need to get defensive, I was replying to one specific person who clearly stated as much, and from the way that they worded it, it felt like they believe it looks ridiculous, I am someone who thinks stature plays very little role in how a character comes off, and things like demeanor and, for lack of better word, "energy" they give off are substantially more important.
Also I am a woman IRL as well, in fact my character matches my IRL height, because I was lured into Au Ra initially because dragon people (kinda, sorta, not strictly speaking by lore but close enough), and I made my character min height because I am fairly short, without realizing how tiny fem Au Ra are at the time, then I later Fanta'd to change my character's height to match my own, which makes me a near max height fem Au Ra.
I wasn’t getting defensive, I was telling you that everyone loves short stature regardless if the characters look cute like miqote or stronger like au ra xaela, almost everyone finds them awesome as they are the most played races in game, and yes most women play them but so do most guys and the number of men playing ffxiv worldwide used to be significantly higher at least some years ago, ratio 70% to 30% so all in all most people don’t say you’re not awesome, no need to feel like that because of one person, the forums are louder than the rest when they ask for tall strong women.

Yes, short is popular. My Miqo'te is as short as she can be. Though I also made her bust small as it would look off if she was super stacked like most Miqo'te I see.
I fully expect the female Hrothgar to be short and more humanoid just so most players will want to play as them. Making them closer to Miqo'te or Au'ra is the only way they'll gain any traction.
I agree.
One of the things that drew me to Viera is their tall stature. Whenever possible, I try to play tall women in games because I'm one in real life.
I'm hoping fem Hrothgar end up being tall, or at least average height, but if not...well, I'd be disappointed, but I'd still play one.
Beast races shouldn't even be allowed inside main cities, hrothgars never should have existed.
<======The point of every single development regarding "Beast Races" ever since the start of this game

Kobolds have forged peace with Limsa, and the Amalj'aa with Ul'dah, plus we have had Mamool Ja and Qiqirn standing around in Limsa since forever, it's hardly new.
Hrothgar are a niche. Being an unfilled niche was quite literally the defense of the race's implementation. "Seen as a failure" is the opposite of Yoshi's comment on Hroth's popularity because he is fully aware they are niche.
The point of a playable beast race is to be a playable beast race for people who would want to play beast races.
Have you seen Riot's new female "minotaur"?

That is pretty art though.
It's a failure if only a minority play it due to how much work they're putting into it. Roe at least was a launch race. This will be last race/gender added to the game as far as we know. I doubt they want it to end on a sour note.
So, I'm betting on the female Hrothgar being hot/cute like Miqo'te and Au'ra.
I hope y'all beast race lovers rub it in these naysayers' faces when we finally get what y'all were already literally promised lol. Wild that this is even a discussion. Bye.
By that Logic, they wouldn't be bothering with the Hrothgar at all, and there wouldn't have been a giant stink about the situation where the new hairs were cutting off/hiding the ears.
So that proves there is a Playerbase for the Hrothgar, and the huge FemHroth Main Thread with people who have made discussion about how they want the FemHroths. Even here in this unnecessary extra thread.
So no....Hrothgar are not a Failure in the slightest.
Im more doubtful that they would say "Dont Worry, Female Hrothgar are coming" Just to NOT give us Female Hrothgar, and instead Miqote 2.0
That would hurt them and the race as a whole. THAT would end it on a Sour Note.
Im hoping they will be Hot/Cute as well...but as Female Hrothgar: Designed as a coherent Female Counterpart to the Males.
IS HROTHGARS AN ANIMAL
I'm happy your friend had a great experience. Unfortunately I had a hard time buying into Sadu being a badass warrior so that part of the story didn't really click with me. :(
Funny you should say that because "energy" is a lot of what turns me off to Au Ra. I'm a big fan of the high energy tomboy vibe Highlanders have and the meek anime waifu vibe of Au Ra is pretty much the exact opposite of that. But of course that's just my opinion. If you think they're awesome, more power to you! That is exactly why there should be a wide variety of races in the game as I spoke about in my earlier post. Plenty of people think female Highlanders are hideous and too aggressive but I love everything about them.
Wrong. Read the thread.
Honestly funny people perceive that there's a rivalry to be had between cute and buff women, and supposedly the two "factions" need to have a turf war over how female Hrothgars are going to turn out looking. They'll turn out how they're designed by SQEX, with their own decision-making logic. It really wouldn't be on random female Miqo'te/Highland Hyur player #2345432's opinion on how they should be. So creating a divide is just petty.
Looking at stuff wondering if there's actually any realworld examples to draw from, I found this:
https://i.gyazo.com/b12c9420fd6a940a...ccb8eb38a3.jpg
Apparently, sometimes female lionesses can end up growing a mane due to hormonal shifts. Since Hroths are supposed to be based on big cats like lions, tigers, etc. we could look at the dimorphism of the big cat species of the world to see what SE should be aiming for re: female Hrothgar. And this picture tells me, the dimorphism of the lion is vastly centered around the presence of a mane, the 'muscle build' of the female is, yes, leaner and more sleek, but it's not a massive difference. In fact, it's almost like...

Hmm. Also anyone who says highlanders/roegadyns are ugly is very rude and should reconsider immediately
There is no need at all to make "most" players want to play as the one new race. Unlike jobs, which players pick up in addition to their existing pile, a character can only be one race at a time. Adding one more option to the range doesn't need to appeal to the majority of players, because in the long run what the game needs is a range of different character types that appeal to a different portion of potential players.
It's better to make Hrothgar "something different" than "more of the same". Appeal to a different set of players, not the ones already catered to by Miqo'te.
if square wanted a popular race, they wouldn't bothered with Hroth to begin with. they could have just added another human race with dog ears instead
I think they will be somewhat animal like, but less so then the males maybe? Idk, either way I look forward to the reveal. I wouldn't be super suprised if they just turned out ot be miqo'te 2.0 though
The point of those developments is that these thoughts have always been wrong, there is nothing that entrinsically make the Beast races lesser, they just look kinda weird, and an individual rising above prejudices and being accepted by their deeds is actually fairly common, it's just not enough to fix the systematic issues around said prejudice, plus not all Beast Tribes were treated the same way since the start, like I said, we have Mamool Ja, Qiqirn, and Goblins allowed within city walls since ARR, Moogles are also considered a Beast race and they work along with the Padjal in the Twelveswood, which is to say a Beast race has a governamental job in Gridania, if the problem is suspension of disbelief, you can simply assume that Hrothgars are so scarcely seen, not exactly native to Eorzea after all, that the guards at the major cities don't even know if they should bar their passage, and at a glance they seem harmless enough so they decide there is no reason to, that's all it takes.
They could do a new Male Form as well. More like the original from FFX. It would be like Midlander and Highlander.
NGL when I saw the Male Hrothgar standing there I was like 'damn this isn't for me, they look kinda goofy with that hunch'. Then I saw that one /cpose idle animation where they stand up straight and I was like 'oh..?' They look so much better when they stand up straight. I assume they would have been stood up straight when they were serving as the queen's guard, I can't imagine they were allowed to hunch over while standing to attention. So I wish we could have just... 100% uptime on 'non-hunched', instead of it being relegated to specific idleposes
And yes, it's basically guaranteed they'll reuse a skeleton, and since they used Male Roe for the Male Hroth, it stands to reason that they'd use Fem Roe for Fem Hroth.
It should be stated, for the avoidance of confusion, that the reason these pictures make the idea of 'Female Hrothgar' look so scuffed is because that's a Mi'qote body. Yes, modders have limitations to work with, but I don't really understand why they did it with a Mi'qote base. If anything, this should be evidence that making them Fem Roe adjacent instead of Mi'qote/Au Ra adjacent is the more sensible way to go
Dunno
I think they did ok with M-Viera
And M-Hrothgar look already super sweet
I have faith that F-Hroths will look fine, be fine (ꈍᴗꈍ)
M-hroths look like ronso, I hope F-hroths will look like ronso too
I mean
With viera boys we didn't have pre-existing reference (except that HW sketch) like with hrothgals
