The moment you realize SE doesn't care about Viera and Hrothgars, the easier it is to buy a fantasia (that is on sale) and pick a new race...
I mean considering the game is in such a content drought right now, its clear their priorities are in the right spot.
Ignoring what people think about the cash shop for a moment, I wonder if we'll get anyone in here seriously defending charging viera/hrothgar full price for something they can't fully use or Square still designing hats without these two races in mind (and likely removing miqo/ele ears as well).
Its stuff like this that really shows how much Hrothgar and Viera were a big mistake for them. And its confusing too; Im not pretending like I know how to rig 3D models or whatever but how come Au Ra doesnt have this issue despite they have their big, gross, protruding horns sticking out of their heads that realistically would not be able to wear like 90% of headgear (especially helms) yet Hrothgars and Viera with their simple ears seem to have trouble for them to even display hats?
It's quite confusing. I don't pretend to know that stuff either, but I would think they've actually tried something. I know people will chime in about the mod community, but I don't believe it's that simple a problem to fix to their liking just because someone did a tiny bit of extra work on it. They might be working on something. They might not be. It's not like it's something they can ignore.
I'm happy with mine (alt). It isn't all doom and gloom just because they can't wear hats.
Personally I don't feel like they're much worse off than my Miqo'te who might technically be able to wear hats, but very rarely look acceptable in them.
I am going to skirt the difference between logic and getting accused of defence here, but what is the alternative in a game where character race can be changed and some people switch around on a regular basis? They can't just sell the sets at a cheaper rate to characters who are currently unable to wear the hat, because they might switch to something else later.
The only solution I can picture is that they either stop making any hats as part of sets, or they completely overhaul their system to sell gear as individual pieces rather than sets – which seems unlikely because they've taken steps away from that rather than towards it. (Though I would greatly appreciate a U-turn.)
Told this to someone earlier and then went on this whole rant about how the fact that the cash shop even exists is a gift to the players and that we should be thanking SE for having an opportunity to buy glams...
The best answer is that they put forth a little effort to make hats that they are going to sell to players for real money work with Viera and Hrothgar. We already know they can do it as some hats do work, but not all. If I were picking hats that I would want to make work it would be the ones people are paying cash for to make it appealing for everyone to purchase.
The thing with some hats working but not others, is that it isn't simply picking them on a case-by-case decision.
There is a clear pattern that if a hat covers (and in functional terms, switches off) the upper half of the hair model but leaves the lower half visible, it will not work for Hrothgar/Viera, but if it fully conceals the hair then there is a good chance of it being available to them.
Compare that the level 90 reaper hat works for them, but the level 90 red mage hat does not. It doesn't just work because it's job gear, but because it fits the criteria.
For another example, the new Rinascitia sets where the hood works but the beret does not.
Whether it's necessary or corner-cutting, those are the limits for now, and once you understand the logic it becomes much clearer why the available hats aren't based on the significance of the outfit.
Wonder if having viera and hrothgar specific hair turned into a mistake instead of having generic hairstyles like everyone else and they aren't putting resources into making it work. Brings up another question of if they are adding more generic hairstyles if that will change anything.
I wish it wasn't unisex. We didn't get the male variant at all.
The new outfit is obviously based on the traditional attire of the Sami people.

To be fair, it’s not entirely Square’s fault that the cash shop is overpriced. When there’s demand, there’s money to be made. And people love this stuff. In fact, they love it so much, they’ve taken it a step further and made microtransactions of their own! The gravy train never stops rolling!

looks like a mod shop
Little girl
Little girl with cat ears
Little girl with rabbit ears that looks even less like a viera than the normal in game viera
Little girl with horns and skin cancer
Freaking yikes, man. I'm all for pretty ladies, but... not when I'm scared that looking at them makes me worried the FBI is gonna come knocking.
Eh, I can give you teenage at most but 3d anime isn't everyone's cup of tea. I think those mods remove a lot of the charm the OG models have. If I wanted that aesthetic then I would have just stuck playing Tera. That might be it actually, they look like a game that was made by Nexon, lol.
It really does lol. Think we could get the dance she does with it?

I know some ppl are arguing its a different team that makes the mog stuff but they would still have to get the okay to put it in so he knew that we were only getting a mount we’ll use till new years probably (besides people who really like deer or xmas) vs a glam that people will use anytime regardless of the time of year
I get that it’s a totally separate team and they don’t really talk at all, but isn’t that a bit problematic from an organizational standpoint? What if they publish something that’s totally out of place with the game? And who, exactly, is in this team? Is it actually part of the same unit? Does Yoshida not control CBU3? Who’s really running the show here?
The Business Unit in charge of the Mogstation Store is not the Business Unit that creates the game. Their goals are different from those of the producer and developers of FFXIV.
Think of it this way: You produce widgets in your factory. As a sideline, you accept orders from other companies to produce wadgets in your factory. It is your factory, your machines and your materials that produce those wadgets, but you have no say about the wadget's initial design, and you cannot put the wadget up for sale as your own product, nor does the company that sells the wadgets have any say in your current product line.
I'm going to have to keep a copy of my text for the next time a thread pops up about the unfairness of the developers in letting the mogstation sell items they feel should be available in-game.
It's a perennial issue. I liked "the lack of input is the same nonetheless" ...
Oh, well since it's a different team it's okay then! For a second there I thought it was just corporate greed creeping into a game with a subscription! Glad we got that resolved!
The teams certainly communicated enough to pair a Reindeer herding outfit(cash shop) with a Reindeer mount(free).
It is incredibly likely they were looking to entice some players to 'complete' the ensemble by obtaining both.
