I hope they do anything related to the items needed to reach level 2 hamlet. It seems in my server (Ragnarok) we are not going to play the level 2 anytime. The second combat phase since the patch started with yet 6 millions to reach level 2 -_-

When is the real large scale content coming out?
Only top 20 people get items.
20 divided by 8 is 2 and a half.
Which is just about the number of parties that ran yesterday on our server. Sorry we missed you Ian.
The facility to completely refill your anima with only a few hours of crafting or gathering is a very welcome addition. The problems for me are in relation to the battle phase. I quite enjoy the battles themselves although admittedly they are incomparable to the large scale content some of us are used to from xi. Not complaining about that, we can't expect content that the current game engine cannot do.
The major issue I have is that we aren't all entirely sure how the points awarded relate to the chances of drops. In the other instances we know that doing certain things will give us certain chests. We do them and get to open a chest with a chance of the drop we want. In hamlet defence we get an amount of points and I for one think "ok but what does that mean in terms of my chance of getting drop X?".
TL;DR
There is some great gear available from Hamlet defence, the battles are quite fun. The reward system isn't clear enough.
Shame on you, Lurex you failed me with Hamlet Defense feedback.
What a complete let down. I was excited about this conversation, but not anymore.
Why can't you speak for yourself?
Why cant you give full feedback?
Why cant you explain, on the first post, what made you upset?
Why cant you tell SE how to make it better in your opinion?
Who is responsible for this complete utter failure to communicate?
I don't understand..
'I didn't want this content -> Square Enix is bad because I don't like Hamlet -> Hamlet is instanced omg'
- Weeell some people wanted things to do apart from Garuda.
- It's instanced because of the servers (read the comments)
- Square Enix purposefully makes content 'terrible' just so they can read all of your nasty little messages.
Yea its a let down, but I am hoping its still not finished, we know there will be 5 levels and that with each level the score doubles, some are suggesting the higher the score the better the loot.
So assuming in the next patch if we can try level 5 hamlet and the loot is much easier to get, I think it will provide a reason to do it.
Right now the reason people don't want to do it is because the effort far out weights any reward (this is typical of SE of course), SE need to learn to make enjoyable yet challenging content that you don't need to bend over backwards to get, that's not suggesting I want it easy just reasonably challenging.
I couldn't care less if its instanced really, that being said I can't see why they couldn't have allowed 3 parties to enter an instance, they could have scaled the difficulty based on the number of parties present.
I enjoy Hamlet Defense, but the reward system and the amount of work to get into the top 20 is too much.
I see the white knights are as notorious as ever.
Yeah Hamlet Defense was a huge let down. I can live with the instanced setting considering the crappy engine but having to go with a 8p group and only during very specific times is a big failure imo.
Maybe it was my own fault for expecting something casual friendly like ffxi campaign where you could enter solo more or less anytime you wanted and still be able to make progress. Also no sort of seals or other currancy for reward -_-
Hamlet defense + nerfed HQ crafting = 1.22 a huge disappointment
Heh, I still get a chuckle out of this. Reminds me of a comic (believe it was a comic) for FFXI where 5 characters were trying to figure out how to get a door open. None of them could figure out a way to do it, so finally a Galka picks up the Taru BLM in the group and hurls them at the door. When asked why he did that, he replies "Don't we throw Black Mages at all our problems?"
That said, I'm not a fan of the idea of something like that being instanced. Sounds like it might have been something rather in line with a Campaign Battle, or some other large-scale "public" event.
I really really hope Yoshi and SE don't go down this path of instancing things too much. Every thing they make instanced is one less thing that helps get the community at large playing together, cooperating, etc.
There's a severe difference between being a White Night, and putting a whiner in check.
If you're going to criticize something, do it in a manner that's actually useful to the developers to fix. Not just blind, indiscriminate, nonconstructive rage.
You've done this, the OP... well, he deserves the reactions he gets.
I don't care if you say that you personally found Hamlet Defense a letdown. I care that you explain why so they can work on it in a manner that will make the game better for everyone.
I'm sure the more we complain about instancing, the more they will change that aspect in 2.0.. its not really a Major takes 3 months to change, type of change anyways. So Lets complain to the ends of the earth about having less instancing! :P
I will say, they should have mentioned it would be instanced like.... a long time ago.
I dunno the new servers seem to be designed for cross server content in mind, the only way you can do this is through instanced content.
It's unlikely Hamlet will be cross server of course due to the level difference between hamlets across servers, at least it will make Rokien somewhat happy lol
What I don't get though is that they managed to do the last Imperial invasion both open world and large(ish) scale, I can't see why they couldn't do this with hamlet.
Hell they could have had an NPC to sign up with and add you to a que like system.
Was really a wasted effort or maybe just a rush job .. :(
I'm fairly sure the fact that it is instanced is more an issue with the current engine than anything. It's good that there is feedback against it, however. So they know they can program it into the new world as something more active.
Not that I particularly mind instancing.
I'm not totally against instancing either. I just prefer it be used with discretion, and only where it will actually help remedy a legitimate issue of people possibly getting in each others' way (competition over raid-bosses, quest objectives, etc). What I don't like to see it implemented with is things that seem to be geared toward community participation and cooperation. That's at least what I thought Hamlet Defense would be - sort of a smaller scale version hybrid of Campaign Battle/Besieged where a large number of players could get together and help fight off an invasion.
Whatever the benefits, anything that segregates the players into "private, personal pockets" of the world should be used sparingly, in my opinion.
Speaking for myself, in Campaigns and Besieged, I really enjoyed seeing and participating with people randomly healing or buffing each other, giving raises, going to help someone who was overwhelmed by a tougher mob, or multiples, etc. Met a lot of cool people doing those events and you begin to see familiar faces. Beyond being fun in and of themselves and the rewards you could get from doing them, I found those were a great tool for community building. Whether the community aspect was intended by design, or an accident of it, don't know. I just know they worked in that regard.
I think it's also plausible that it's not possible with the current engine, given its limitations. Hopefully the new engine and server structure they're using will alleviate those problems and make larger scale, more "public" activities more do-able. Fingers crossed.
Someone brought lemonade?
And he Waddle away... Waddle Waddle... and he Waddle away Waddle Waddle Waddle.. Till the very next day bum bum bumm bumm bumm bumm!

There is a possibility that the game engine be the limiting factor but even in 11 during large campaign fights and especially Besieged it couldn't show many player/enemy models.
1 of the biggest flaws in both campaign and besieged was being killed by invisible mobs or not being able to target an alliance member because they weren't drawn on screen.
Being instanced isn't really the issue with Hamlet being disappointing though, at least IMO.
hopefully with the new graphics engine in 2.0 and the new servers we won't have instance anymore in hamlet. having hamlet like campaign like in XI where you and come and go as you please, this is good for casual/hardcore players. probably main reason why hamlet currently now is all instance is due to server limits and graphics engine limits(with only 40 characters on one screen) not enough for large scale content like hamlet should be.
with hamlet being changed to the campiagn set up a causal player can take part in the battle and can contribute in thier on way whether or not they are DOL,DOH,DOM,DOW and also they can work together with randoms or not, if they please for a common goal to achive victory! light/full parties will be for the hardcore players that try to get as much out of the battle they can and each member contibutes to a team effort and right now having to have all 8 is bit of a problem for some ppl(for whatever many reasons thier are). i really won't be surpirsed when SE does this after 2.0 since alot of players thought this in the first place that hamlet was similat to XI campiagn, but you never know SE they can do some...you the rest!
If the Servers allow for such a thing to happen.. then they can work around it to put in those types of non-instanced content. Sure they can do it on this current version, however there's a "limit" on what they can and cannot do.. so if they were to put it in there with the max it could handle.. it wouldn't be satisfying if its all lagging can't see mobs, or some people around you.
Frontlines is going to be Non-instanced content. from the looks of it.. Nations defend the Frontlines to keep control of land.. sounds like non-instanced content to me.
I was looking at the achievements for Hamlet Defense, their descriptions sound like it could support a non-instanced system when 2.0 comes around. As far as the main nm of Hyrstmill, alliances (when introduced) can get the claim and the corresponding achievement.
I didnt play it yet, whats it all about... -_-
It's about defending a hamlet for no prize other than some fireworks unless you spend all the previous day gathering or crafting in order to be one of the Top 20 contributors to the Hamlet and then you get maybe a sledgehammer, or a secondary crafty tool.
Wanna try it?
Unless of course, you don't want the drops. I mean, who wants a r50 sledgehammer, like you're going to get better/more items quarrying with it? I mean come on.
The only decent drop in this thing is anima which you only get 3 per event.
i personally was expecting hamlet defense to be alliance content not party content. i was let down. other than that its pretty cool we got our butts stomped so bad our LS may never attempt it again hheh
I obviously don't give a rat's patoot.
Its okay, I like it, better than not having it at all. Wouldn't call it a let down or a utter failure. Plus havent even done higher levels yet.
