I think my only complaint is the fact that it is so laborsome to log back in and that the game shuts down. Having to relaunch the launcher to log back in with PW and Number, and then if you get wall to wall Lobby Errors, you lose your place in line. I have to have a pre-arranged login set up for the inevitable 2002 error and fire it off when it happens to stay in line, or risk when I go afk for a sec being pushed to the end for the 10th time. IMHO if your in line your account should retain that place until a successful login to the game, or 1 hour has passed. Which ever comes first. Otherwise, totally acceptable and understandable as it happens.

I mean, we're playing the best MMO around, and the nearest competition is drowning in a lack of content, sea of controversy, and in general stupid decisions that are driving players to this game. No surprise it's more congested.

Computer hardware has been hard to come by for quite a while now. And it's not going to get better anytime soon. The EARLIEST TSMC or Samsung can get their new semiconductor foundries up and running will be 2025

There's no such thing as "unavailable" to a billion dollar corporation. SE isn't willing to pay to get the hardware, which is the honest answer they won't give. Someone has never taken part in a MMO expansion release before.

Log in queues for release are normal because instead of 10% of the player base trying to get online to play at the same time, it's 80%. They start dying out after 4-5 days. Once players have managed to get into the game and get a taste of the new content, they drift back to their normal log in habits.

I've been prepared. I log in first then I go make food to eat, call family to chat, play other games, etc. while sitting in queue. The wait is still a bit annoying but still I feel like I've only been in queue a short time when I've really been in queue for over 2 hours because I'm using the time to do other things.

I'm feeling this as well. It would be nice if the launcher didn't close every time we log in.

Also, you don't always lose your place in line. I'm battling queue extreme right now.

First attempt - started at 2600, lost connection at 1100
Second attempt - started at 3300, lost connection at 1500
Third attempt - started at 1500 (it saved my queue position), lost connection at 700
Fourth attempt (where I am as I'm typing this) - started at 700 (again position saved)

It feel like if the connection issue is game server side, it's saving your place if it can (probably not always possible depending on the type of connection error). It's not saving it if the connection issue is on your end or within the internet routing.

The fact of the matter is that it doesn't make sense as a business to pay to upgrade hardware when the prices are exorbitant due to shortages. If any business were to act in the way you think they should, they would go out of business due to wasting money. And then there's the fact that we're still in a pandemic situation which makes getting their employees to install new hardware a non-trivial issue. A chip shortage, and all that is understandable. The losing your spot in the queue. Now that is unacceptable and it should be 5 mins instead of the 1.

My hunch tell me they didn’t want to invest as much capital to accommodate the peak surge, which I believe is so short sided. All eyes were on this expansion this hasn’t been smooth at all.

Server congestion issue aside this 2002 that reset your queue position if they were aware of it and still lunched , there are questions that needs to be asked. They should have at least fixed that

Not only are Amazon's and Facebook's data centers eating so many pieces of server hardware that it's hard to get any anyways, but there is a worldwide semiconductor shortage on top of that, plus an inflow of so many players before this launch that the population DOUBLED in just over a year.

And for most of these messages complaining here, they come from my fellow WoW refugees, which seemingly still haven't let go of their toxicity. Please stay away from FF14 if all you can do is continue whining. Or, better, make a character on a server not on your continent and you might notice that there is suddenly free spots because people in Asia are friggin asleep or at work themselves when you log in in the evening.

Use your brains during one of the BIGGEST LAUNCHES IN HISTORY FOR ONE OF THE BIGGEST PLAYERBASES. First world problems, seriously.

What does the server shortage have to do with the systems not working that was suppose to help lighten the burden?
What does the old wow community have to do with people being upset rightfully so that the launcher does not work, and when they get booted in queue they got 1 min to get back in or lose spot. That is hours of time wasted, and would not have to go through that if the system they added worked in the first place.

It's short sighted not sided and no it really isn't. If you knew anything about the situation in the world currently you would know that there is a shortage of chips needed to run the servers and production is slowed down.

It's not simping. There is no solution to this problem that people keep ignoring. At least they had the heart to share with you the issues they would face. A lot of companies will just hope for the best and deal with it later.

I work in IT sales for a rather large reseller which won't be named. I have enterprise clients that order high end Dell servers. Yes, there were delays in getting the hardware shipped, it took 4 months to finally ship out the 4, $50K servers. 4 MONTHS.. You mean to tell me a billion dollar company like SE couldn't procure new servers? Sure there is a supply issue, that is very true, but stuff is still shipping, it's just delayed. SE didn't want to spend the money on new servers, plain and simple, they could of gotten them installed prior to EW if they would of thought and planned ahead. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Now back to checking my place in queue and probably logging in another 19391319 times to finally play for 2 hours today.

It fascinates me that people think this was preventable, the mass growth over the past months totally blindsided them, its not something they can fix over night, especially with covid issue. And yes covid is still plenty affecting, while things have improved it does not mean the months of halted or slowed production were magically filled to order once thing settled, HELL NAH! And even worst logistics are all sorts of fucked, Ports alone are jammed pack with containers 4-5 stories high.

As they should. Complaining is not that big of a deal. It is the job of the consumer to voice when they are unhappy, and not care about such things. A company is design to make profits no matter what. If you don't complain they will cut corners and do whatever it takes to make the most money.

i definitely get the frustration, i'm sitting in a long queue because my game crashed out while trying to do PvP. it's just annoying seeing everyone going "why don't they just buy more servers?" or "why don't you use cloud servers that would be outside of your control, and would have to be leased from an actual competitor?" (someone legitimately suggested renting cloud servers from Amazon)

I agree with others that the supply-chain issue is a cop-out for Square Enix and this botched launch.

FF14 made $180M in profit last year ($370M revenue). It's apparently making significantly more this year with new subs. They may not be able to procure new servers, but it's not like they couldn't have outsourced their server needs. Companies like Amazon are getting hammered by record server usage with another covid-19 holiday shopping season and AWS, and they don't have issues like this. I think this all boils down to SE wanting to control all aspects of their service when they're clearly not equipped to deal with some aspects of it. Their server software probably can't be adapted to existing cloud platforms, but they're a big enough company with enough dollars to lease server farms and use their own software on them.

It's their product, and they can do--or in this case not do--what they want. You can decide whether you want to continue supporting their product and services. Whether you accept their misleading narrative, that's another issue.
