To be fair, some appear to do just that. But I can only recall seeing one such listing over the past month or so. The rest send you to Discord where shady things most likely happen.

Agreed im glad theyre adding gil sinks but i was very disappointed to see it's just gold colored beast tribe mounts. I hope they make unique gil sinks for this in addition in the future. Not a huge fan of the gold and probably won't buy them all even though i would probably be able to.
Where can you see a picture of the gold colored mounts?

Starting at about 1h31m (YoshiP also shows off the final gwiber mounts just before that).
I think a more effective gil sink would be adding a gil cost to glamour plates. Nothing crazy, but if it was like 5k a swap that would add up.
It's hard because you really don't need gil for anything as an average player. I mean maybe teleports, but there's nothing to passively take gil out of the economy. Housing doesn't even work because people have 100s of millions and the house didn't put a dent in that. Also you don't need a house so.
Why do you hurt me...
But seriously, I'm not sure this idea has legs if only because we can tie glamour plates to gear sets.
I have this for all of my tanks so when I swap (for example) from DRK to PLD it auto glamours for me.
So... this would potentially hit people for 5k each time they swapped their class...
Oof...
No, no I ment if you swap the plates. Like if you changed the tank glamour from one thing to another. You would've paid the 5k the first time you applied it that's it unless you change it. Or at least that's how I saw it. It's a total rip off of how Wow's transmog system charges though that's based on how much you change and it's far more robust than what we have.
But in terms of in game gil spending it seems almost exclusively on glamour since it's considered the true endgame and such. I was just thinking what would get the most money. Much like the phantaisa idea the guy had a few pages back. SE makes a killing on vanity.
The problem with this is you're adding cost for the sake of cost to a system that should quite frankly be integral to the game, and not as a means of milking someone for their Gil, honestly. You'd get a lot of backlash from players- Simply because they view it as essential and not a luxury system.
If they're going to incorporate more Gil sinks then monthly taxation to housing would be nice- Makes perfect sense too! Buyable MGP in bulk beyond the 500 that you can get typically. Rare or annoying quests that'd require the player to accumulate and use a certain amount of Gil in order to complete the quest; think of it as a donation of sorts. Buyable, short-term buffs similar to those added for Free Company and Squadron; albeit more efficient and potent, but on a more short-term basis like an hour. I know some won't be a fan of this; but a buyable fantasia for 10-20M, that doesn't allow the same breadth of customization as a regular Mogstation one; perhaps something to allow change of height or characteristics for your current race- e.g. can't be used as a race change. Luxury things that good stuff. I'd never support effective taxation on the use of glamour plates simply because it's far too integral to the players' experience
The issue with their current approach is that unless they do something that is repetitive and makes sense then people who actively, or even passively seek Gil will always generate more than what is being asked for with the items in question. I would hazard to say with their current systems any given player with the requisite Gil to purchase the mounts can generate enough Gil over the course of the patch cycle to offset the costs of the mounts and minions- I don't mean player trading of the sorts, but generating it from the server itself via Levequests. So if they really want this charade to work they ought to probably neuter the Gil rewards from Levequests. Between now and 6.0 across all of my characters I will be able to generate 60,988,235 - 81,317,647 Gil just from levequests.
Yeah I don't actually get why they limited how much MGP you could buy at the golden saucer.
I don't mind gil sinks, as long as they are targeted at people with too much gil.
We mustn't forget that the only reason why a gil sink is even considered, is because there are people with too much gil. It has nothing to do with the economy. If anything, gil sinks tend to harm the economy by adding to inflation. So any gil sink that applies to all players (glamour plates, market tax, etc.) should be avoided.
I'd pay 1mil gil+ to turn a job specific piece of gear into a pure, lvl 1 glamour piece
You have it backwards. Inflation isn't caused by a lack of currency in the system. It's caused by an excess of currency in the system.
The more currency a player has, the more they can spend on one item. That causes prices to increase as sellers take advantage of the greater wealth. If players had less currency, they wouldn't be able to spend as much and so sellers would need to reduce prices to find buyers.
For us to have less currency so prices stay lower, we need to have more things to purchase with gil.
More raw gil in the economy causes inflation, because more people have gil and it loses value. Gil sinks reduce inflation because people have less gil overall and couldn't afford high prices, thus the market adjusts.
FF14's best gil sink has probably been how rarely they put raw gil into the economy. Where in games like WoW you had the mission table mess in WoD, vendoring items and gear in old raids and decent gold from quests all pumping huge sums of raw currency into the economy, ff14's items vendor for very little and quests barely pay teleport fees. The most you get is roulette bonuses, Eureka bunny fates and maps but it's not a massive sum. Our economy isn't really too bad.
I'd say their next most likely target for general gil sink will be leves. They already removed gil from Rowena's collectible turn-ins and Coffee Biscuit craft leves have become a popular source of extra gil.
Yeah I don't get that either. It's hard for a non crafter to make money because nothing sells for anything. There's so many people undercutting you make almost nothing on anything. It's more pro buyer than pro seller. At least from my experience which is me being forever poor, but I've never once thought something was too much money outside of people who take advantage of the fashion report, but then again they are smart in that sense. I just don't like it because I'm poor basically. But that has nothing to do with them and everything to do with me wasting money on pointless things. Because as I said above you really don't need money in this game for really anything outside of teleports.
The only time I run out of gil is when I'm doing housing. I decorate people's homes, sometimes paying for pieces out of pocket, and when I'm not doing that? It just sort of piles up. I can't imagine feeling strapped for gil the way some people say they are, and I don't even do endgame crafting.
I'm confused. What is this thread in reference to?
Sinks made of gil, obviously.
But in all seriousness, gil sink mounts (more than one maybe?) were announced during the Live Letter. The only one we have solid confirmation of is the Namazu beast tribe mount, but it's completely gold and shoots gold coins out from it.
Is your problem making it, or is the problem how you spend it?
Even if you're not actively selling things on the MB, the game is throwing gil your way for doing just about any content that isn't PvP or Gold Saucer.
Levequests reward gil - might as well use up all those leve allowances you're accumulating.
Treasure maps reward gil in addition to the loot drops.
Many of the challenge log entries reward gil.
Roulettes reward gil your first time plus there's the Adventurer in Need bonus.
Doman Enclave is worth 40k a week once you've completed all the quests (the 20k value of the items donated plus an additional 20k bonus).
Daily and weekly hunt bills reward gil (not to mention you can use any Allied or Centurio Seals earned to buy Aetheryte tickets so you can stop paying teleport fees).
Side quests reward gil. Beast tribe dailies reward gil.
None of the amounts are huge but they all add up as you do more content. Making gil isn't a problem as long as you're actively playing the game. I have to laugh those times I'm passing by the Limsa Aetheryte and see people complaining about being poor. Of course they're poor. They're sitting there doing nothing instead of doing something that will earn gil.
Now spending it wisely is a problem for many players. They don't pay attention to what they're buying. The only notice they've run out when they don't have enough for the next item they wanted to buy. You'll end up with a lot of gil if you do the content the rewards the item you want yourself instead of heading to the MB to buy for convenience.
Well, you see...
Pretty much all of this. The game literally throws gil at players, even passively. There's even more options available too that aren't listed here. Treasure maps, retainer ventures, grinding for items no one really wants to, etc.
I mostly make money by desynthing dungeon loot and selling it, along with whatever my retainers bring back from ventures, on the MB. I'm not super-rich, but I'm usually sitting at around 30 million with no real effort.
Pretty much the same for myself. Couple that with dailies, everything kinda adds up. Although quite recently I've almost completely stopped crafting and been working on that coffee biscuit leve on Crystarium. They rack up decent amount of gil for such a small effort, so I expect I'll have more freedom in spending :) Spending poorly & lack of self control is what makes us poor at the end of the day.
To be fair I spend more money on crafted 510 gear than anything else. I can't be assed to farm tomes atm. Trying to get everything to 80 and if I like a Job I buy the whole set. Sometimes it's under a million gil and sometimes it's over. Just depends on the market. I'm not buy rmt gil desperate, but the market for my random venture crap is rough is all I'm gonna say. I have had more luck selling cloth from the event than anything else lately. But I don't know what I would do if I had like 10 million gil. I would probably by the 10 things I want that cost 1 million gil that I don't want to buy because I would be too poor to teleport. But as I said gil is worthless to me outside of like mounts and glamour and even then not to sound rude but other player's drive glamour into the ground. It's like that with everything that comes out that you can buy. You see 1000 megiteck beds and your like maybe I don't want it. But honestly the last thing I bought was the Bozja hair and I want my money back the freaking rat tail mullet on the back flaps when I walk, but I didn't do my research so that's on me.
To anyone struggling to have more than 1-2 mil at a time:
- Two level 80 battle retainers can bring 15-20k Gil / hour when you pick the right material. Ventures are by far the best use of GC seals assuming you don't already have too many venture coins. Even better if you have more than two retainers. (1 min each time, 40k+ Gil / day)
- Leveling roulette every day as adventurer in need. Buy crafting mats with uncapped tomes from the tome vendor. Try other roulettes for more Gil. (15 min, 30k Gil / day)
- Gather a zonureskin map every day. (2 min, 25k Gil /day)
- 6 cookie levequests per day. You can collect a map while you get coffee beans. (20 min, 50-100k per day depending on NQ/HQ)
- Dwarf beast tribe dailies, buy 3 of the rare crafting mat. (5 min, 20k Gil / day)
Check prices and make your own plan. It takes minimal effort to make at least 100k per day at level 80. You'll have at least 20 mil by the time Endwalker launches.
You should also look on how you spent gil.
Do you really need that mount/ hairstyle/ glamour/ crafted gear at patch day?
Can't you wait 1-2 weeks when the price dropped by 50-90%?
If you want to buy something expensive, use the world travel system and check the other Marketboards.
Don't buy something when everyone else is buying it.
Like, don't buy treasure maps on the weekend.
Don't buy materia when new gear is available.
Don't buy buff food and potions on reset day.
Just think a bit about your spending and be more strict with yourself especially when you know that you are not good with handling money.
