FFXII is less medieval so much as a blended high fantasy universe, though I get what you mean in that neither of them are modern. That said in terms of aesthetics I do hope that FFXVI takes to FFIX's side of the coin more than FFXII's. For all that I loved the world of FFXII, there's just something nice about the rustic feel of FFIX's universe. Which is kinda encapsulated in their airship designs. (With only the Invincible really breaking the rustic feel in FFIX)

I just want to know who the music composer is.
Is it Nobuo because he branded himself with the FF series?
Sokken because the trailer music they used, AND because he is part of Yoshida's team so it would make sense for them to utilize Sokken?
Or is it Yoko Shimamura once again since she did splendidly in XV?

I tried searching but, of course the information with this kind of detail wouldn't be released yet....

Also, I can't tell because of the crappy video quality on my screen even if its at its highest HQ... But... One can assume this is Luminous Engine.
However, (as it could just be my horrid eyesight,) I swore there are some parts where I could see some Crystal Engine elements.

Yoshi-P is credited as Producer on 16. Plus, well I'm sure there are a few 14 employees working on 16. Since it looks like an HD cutscene from 14.

I still feel 9 is more medieval than 12. 12 had more sci fi elements than 9, like the dreadnought leviathan with computers, alarms, etc.

Anyway I'm just excited we're getting brand new characters for the single player FF, for the first time, since FFVersus13 announcement in 2006.

Imagine that. 15 years since the last introduction of a new cast for single player numbered FF.

After FF15, I'm not getting my hopes up. The magic system in that title was dreadful. ...and of course there was also the butchered story.

Think the rumour was that he was developing another FF MMO, so the idea that he was going to drop XIV is what annoyed him.

Not at all impressed with the gameplay shown.

They picked perhaps the worst combat system for a ff style rpg to build off of.

Really not looking forward to 6.0 content.

Its not nit picking when every reason you mentioned is personal taste, and the things I mentioned are unavoidable irritating nonsense.

To me a reason to not play a game should be "hey i'm getting 90's internet pop up spam that I cant turn off" instead of "I prefer turn based."

I can enjoy both turn based and real time. What I cant enjoy is someone telling me every 5 seconds where I am.

This is the main reasons I cant play other games outside of the Final Fantasy franchise. They are so full of nonsensical garbage, whereas a typical Final Fantasy game makes sense, is clean and orderly.

well, on topic of my 2 cents on who 16 looks, I don't like the shade all with black edgy aesthetics, I like more color on my games to actually see the action that is hidden on lots of flashy effects, really hope the art direction to up the fantasy on FF that let my eyes keep track on things (ff7R did a good job even on mostly dark environments, so there is hope)

on Yoshi and his team on 2 games, well, I really hope they are not crunching them as they had to crunch to save XIV as documented that they worked on 1.0 updates to keep face while secretly working on 2.0, cuz I have been on similar high pressure, lots of work environments working on multiple proyects and is not good for your health (I had a stroke and spent my savings on medical expenses so it was a loss loss for me)

And as a FFXIV player, as long as there is quality content comming for it, id does not matter much who is behind the wheel and even some new eyes can keep things fresh or ruin it and we can all move on to other place, as much as one can like FFXIV it has to end some day, but well, we can worry about that once we reach lvl cap 99 and a little more after that.

He only really denied two things. That he was "directing" Final Fantasy XVI and that he was leaving Final Fantasy XVI to work on it.

He didn't lie at all. He's not "directing" Final Fantasy XVI, he's "producing" it. Hiroshi Takai is the Director of Final Fantasy XVI whereas Naoki Yoshida is the Producer for it while simultaneously maintaining his position as both Director and Producer of Final Fantasy XIV.

Wish we had more tactical combat like in the past and not these button spam "action" combats. I know it's how young people like nowadays to be fast and not needing to think so thats why they do it.

Maybe I'm crazy but does the gray chocobo look like the shoebill that pops up around ShB? The beak designs of them look strikingly familiar

Was excited till we got to the gameplay. I like action RPGs, I just haven't enjoyed the combat in a FF game since FFX. (Besides the MMOs) If they hate turnbased so much why can't they make the combat like Tales of or Dragon Age?

I'm not musically inclined, but I am more than certain that the trailer music was composed by Sokken at least. The type of instruments and how everything came together just screamed ffxiv music to me that it has to be. Now, another composer could be emulating him to tap into the ffxiv fanbase and have us all beckoned to ff16 as if it were a siron's song but I doubt.

I also doubt it was Shimamura. Not enough piano, not enough violin.

I just hope it's good..if its another bad title after ff15 i fear the franchise might have lost its way..=(. last one i enjoyed was 13 and even that was a stretch after the time travel lore got hard to follow.

I hope they can make the combat a bit more grounded like FF7R. KH3 and FFXV loose and floaty combat has gotten old and uninteresting. That said there’s some DMC flavor in this. Might turn out a bit better constructed combat flow

The single-player franchise lost it's the way a looooooong time ago already imo. The combat has gotten progressively worse every game since FF10. I remember back in 13 there was a meme going around where someone set up one of those wooden birds to play the one button combat for them. Really wish they would go back to turn based.

It would be great if the battle system is like FF7R, but with (much) improved party members AI. I also welcome the return of medieval setting.

I have mixed feelings about Yoshi-P's involvement in this, though. On one hand, I'm glad he got the recognition he deserved. On the other hand, I'm worried that by dividing his attention to two big games, the quality of BOTH games would suffer. I can only hope he will prove me wrong.

To be fair VII's remake party members are godsends compared to XV. I actually feel like they do stuff instead of acting all clunky.

Looks cool. I like action style combat to be honest (as a general statement), just hope they've found a way to ensure it doesn't loose much breadth with it (like some games employ slow-mo or whatever to let you switch it up, Witcher 3 sort of stuff- I just mean I hope it's not like "here is an attack button and 2 spells and that's all we can give you cause buttons" and you end up pressing one button non-stop and that's that).

I've no idea what they intend and am just getting into the info they've released (or maybe I've already hit the wall lol), but some day I hope they rip Bethesda's reigns away from neat open worlds. Kind of get that vibe with this game, may have been just because of the first skimming glance. FFXIV is both pretty open (well open-ish) and achieves great story (especially with ShB) so I believe SE has it in them to make the visually most spectacular open world game. Just have to be careful not to go too Ubisoft and turn it into a thousand meaningless tickboxes on the map. Also please continue with mod support, I was ecstatic they started it with FFXV and hope they empower and continue that with this game. Mod support can be an incredible boon to games, and so I hope they do their best to get a powerful kit to the players (if this isn't open world it's less important but I still think it's a cool thing to do). Of course there will be nude mods.. don't say like in FFXV 'please be mature' I guarantee you people wont be lol.

Anyway, open or not hope SE makes a successful and interesting game and wish them the best.

Yeah, exactly. There was some micromanaging involved and a need to switch characters fairly regularly, but all of them worked well together when everything was done right. FF VII Remake was a fairly challenging game and I think that is something the franchise needed...a challenge. Having a combat system with some actual depth made it that much more enjoyable.

Every time I jumped into battle while playing FF XV I never really knew what everyone else was doing and would occasionally initiate a team move of some kind. The combat system wasn't necessarily bad in my opinion, but it could have been better. A LOT better, really.

Gameplay looks copy-pasted from FFXV. They just replaced blue with orange for the teleportation attacks

anyway i think graphics seem a bit crusty for this next gen console sure it might be early in works but 13 and 15 didnt look that meh early on

Looking forward to Final Fantasy May Cry XIV. I mean... FFXVI. The combat looks dope. Characters actually casting magic instead of chucking a synthesized bottle. Looks like he gets summoned monster bits as attack effects/after effects/alt attack modes. I saw Phoenix feathers slashing with his blade and also Titan Fists.

Story interests me too. Looks like people turning into the Eikons. "Shiva's Dominant" seems to me to mean the person who actually becomes Shvia/controls her when summoned? Or maybe decides when she can be summoned? But the little boy Joshua straight up turned into Phoenix by himself so... hmm.

Can't decide if Tattoo guy and Bodyguard are the same guy or twins separated at birth. I lean towards them being different people and we'll be playing their campaigns separately. Or something like that.

Very much looking forward to it. The only real question is, will the PS5 ever be back in stock for me to get one... ugh.

not fond of the character design feel old-school or nostalgic if you want to say it in a good way.

I'm actually super interested. I'd say as someone else said it ; cautiously optimistic. I like the setting, old-timey-ish, its different for a recent FF. The story is somewhat intriguing, the hero looks nice (althought a bit generic but still nice).

Isn't that the reason for all the "I sure hope the UI doesn't end up having these things I really hate..."? If he could already see the UI, it wouldn't be a concern, only question of whether he can turn it off or a reason not to buy the game.

Not really feel that hype with the game yet. It's almost like FF15 with a medieval coat of paint on it. That shiva looks awfully familiar to lunafreya for some reason...

Saw the trailer I wont be making a judgement based on a trailer. Have no interest in joining "The shoot the game in the head based on a trailer" Crowd. Give me some actual live gameplay as in someone on a stage playing a recent build of the game.

Am wondering if the game is set in the same world as FFXIV, but in a different time period. Ivalice was fleshed out enormously through multiple games across different time periods so it wouldn't be anything new. If they're going for a pure medieval game though that would suggest a time before magitec / allagan, so possibly one of the earliest calamity periods? Development looks quite far along already. I think with Yoshi-P involved there is less risk of the game entering a development hell. I just hope he looks after his health being producer of 2 big games.

This is highly unlikely. Mainline FF games have never set in a shared universe. Ivalice Alliance only has one mainline game in it (XII). Spinoffs (Tactics, Dirge of Cerberus, etc.) and sequels (Revenant Wings, X-2, IV After Years, etc.) are not considered mainline games.
Of course, SE could surprise us by breaking the tradition.

I love everything about Final Fantasy except for the classic RPG group combat system. I know it is considered blasphemy to say this but I really hope they drop the party based combat in FF16 and from the trailer it kinda looked like they did. Controlling a whole party kills immersion for me personally. It's why I like 14 so much, the emotional moments (during combat) hit harder when you fully immerse into the 1 character you are playing at the time imo, the one you've been managing as well (gear wise etc).

From what I've gathered, combat was never really the selling point of FF games, it's usually pretty mediocore. Since FF stories are so emotion driven I believe they can benefit from having you only control a single character and have a bigger impact on the player's emotions.

Could be that party members get added but don't make me control or manage them.

seems to me to be a combo of ffxiv and ffxv. Huge fingerprints of both on them. Music is top notch. I wonder if its aimed to be a revamped ffxv without the development hell

i have a bad feeling ffxiv's devs, few as they are atm are getting or have been poached for this, right when ffxiv is desperate for some more investment from SE

cautiously optimistic though regardless for 16, unsure about 14 though, as much as i'd like to be.

I am impressed with how much work he does!

I'm always like this: Before I play it, I always think "looks acceptable, but a bit 'meh'". When I play it I'm usually "but well, it's fun, better than I thought". While many other people seem to be really hyped before and then think 'meh' when they play it.

After seeing the trailer I fear the combat is like FFXV or VII remake. I like games with action combat usually, but somehow I don't like the way it's usually implemented in the FF games. It's better in other games. I'm not someone who says "I want the old ATB battles back", but in the case of FF it could be better if it were back, or something similar with menus in battle, like in Trails of Cold Steel or other modern JRPGs.

Other than that... I'm not really a fan of the main characters' designs. Maybe when they show us more pictures and info on them.
