Sorrow of Werlyt
So the Heart of Sabik was auracite... but holding what?
This Terncliff town is pretty. And the buildings look unique? Like it's not reused art assets. Interesting that there's a whole group of Au Ra here with more of a Western culture, as opposed to Asian. Gaius's kids weren't the only ones.
I'm glad to get even a slightly prominent Duskwight with Valdeaulin.
On Hydalyn, Zodiark and AzemIn Venat's recordings, she says that the Defector didn't want to help her group summon Hydaelyn. And all the recordings are from before Hydaelyn was summoned. So while we know Azem didn't want anything to do with Hydaelyn or Zoidark summonings, we don't know (yet) if Azem stayed neutral once Hydaelyn and Zoidark started fighting over who would be the will of the star.
My gut feeling is that Azem did not stay neutral. Hydalyn cares too much about us for me to think that. While a lot of people have the Echo, even fewer have Crystals of Light, which is what help keep the Darkness at bay. An no one aside from us has more than one. We have six. And we have Hydaelyn herself shielding us from Ultima to the point that it puts her out of commission for... basically the rest of the game. We are important to her in a way no one else (except maybe Minfilia) is. I can't see Hydaelyn doing something like that for a random adventurer. When you get down to it, you have a Primal putting their own existence on the line for someone who didn't summon them and who doesn't even worship them as a god. That's... unheard of.
The good thing is that we probably do have a record of what Azem did after Hydaelyn was summoned. One of the lines we get from our Sol Stone (lol) is this one.It suggests that our stone was made after the sundering. And in the Ravel, Emet-Selch makes it sound like Hydaelyn and Zodiark's fight when on for a while before Hydaelyn sunders Zoidark/the World. So from the sound of it, there's time for Azem to change their mind and take a side. Which we already know can't be Zoidark's side.Quote:
Though the world be sundered and our souls set adrift, where you walk, my dearest friend, fate shall surely follow.
As far as Tempering goes... Zodiark temped all the Convoction members that summoned him. And those people would have had a way more powerful Echo than anything we have now. If Zodiark could temper them, he could temper Azem in all likelihood. The thing is... no one who interacts with Hydaelyn acts like they are Tempered. No one ever thinks she's a goddess, no one ever wants to worship her, Hydaelyn herself never asks anyone to do either of those things either. The most Hydaelyn ever wants people to do is... be aware the Ascians are manipulating people to do things they wouldn't otherwise do if Ascian involvement wasn't a thing and to know that the things Asicans get people to do are never in anyone's best interests. Given that the nature of Tempering varies from Primal to Primal, the form I could see Hydaelyn's tempering taking is some variation of "you will always have free will/your mind will always be you own". Anything else about forcing people to do something they wouldn't ordinarily do though? I have a very, very hard time seeing her having a Tempering work like that. Not without a lot of Hydaelyn lore being subtractivly retconed.
Main Story
Well, it would appear that Elidibus never watched me do the 61-70 DRK quest line since his little show was a poor replica of that.
MSQ, particularly Y'shotla
Why was there a pause followed by the eerie sound effect causing Y'shotla to change what she meant to say to Runar at their final farewell?
I guess it can be read few ways. One, she realized in the moment the right thing to say was a message of hope instead of an academic view of "change" is a part of life. But wouldn't that be easily accomplished by having her stop mid-sentence, have a pregnant pause, then change her tune? Why have the eerie sound effect?
Or second, she knows something the rest of us don't? Meaning the reunion with First and it's people will be coming down the road in the future? But how could she even know this and if she is going out of her way to hide it, why let herself slip at that moment?
Or lastly, (after I rewatched the cut scene) the phrasing almost seems like she is planting the idea of being summoned by the Night's Blessed, which as a Scion is counter-intuitive. Maybe I'm reading into it too much?
But why the eerie sound effect? Is there something here I'm missing?
Would somebody be so nice and write down what is writtenon our Convocation Jobstone?
There seems to be something, since people quoted parts of it.
I missed to read it and now I can't find it anymore...
Fourteenth's Stone:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...26/unknown.png
It's the Alchemical symbol for the Sun/Gold in real life. (The rest of the convocation stones have real world constellations on them as well, as explored earlier.) Which ties into Urianger's theory that Azem, the Fourteenth seat's name, basically inspired the worship of Azeyma and Azim back on Hydaelyn.
Compilation of various texts about Office of the 14th Convocation Member (and their memorial stone)Hythlodaeus describing both the office of Azem and what their stone's "special power" isWhen summoning your party members to fight the WoL, this plays across the screen at the same timeQuote:
Among all the offices, the Fourteenth was most unusual. For while the rest sat in Amaurot, its holder was charged with gaining an intimate knowledge of the wider world.
In the course of his/her duty, he/she traveled the length and bredth of every land, and befriended countless folk.
He/she encountered troubles too of course. Matters which she/he could simply have referred to the Convocation. But that was not his/her way.
Nay, more often than not, he/she would call upon his/her comrades, and together resolve matters themselves.
Such is the magick sealed within that crystal - the magick to summon the starts to your side.
In time of greatest need, should you wish upon it with all your heart, it will surely answer your call.
And now it is where it belongs.
Elidibus/Warrior of Light's reaction to you summoning your partyQuote:
Herein I commit the chronicle of the traveler. Shepherd to the stars in the dark.
Though the world be sundered and our souls set adrift, where you walk, my dearest friend, fate shall surely follow.
For yours is the Fourteenth seat - the seat of Azem.
In the WoL fight, this plays across the screen after you throw off the chains in the RiftQuote:
An invocation of eld... though not of Hydaelyn's making... What are you?
Your gold summoning/teleportation circle shows up again, but with Emet-Selch in the middle of it. And the WoL reacts with...Quote:
You clutch the crystal of Azem to your brest and wish upon it with all your heart.
Emet-Selch does his classic finger snap, and you and the rest of your party are all pulled out of the Rift to your summoning/teleportation circle. Emet-Selch walks off and does his weird back-handed wave before disappearing again.Quote:
You... It cannot be...
The phrase used to describe what you do with the crystal before Emet-Selch gets summoned/teleported is the exact same phrase Hythlodaeus uses to tell you how to use the crystal, so...
Curiously, this is how Temulun, the shaman of the Mol tribe "sees" us all the way back in Stormblood. When it comes to the memorial stone itself, the symbol on it is the alchemy/astrology symbol for the sun in real life. The Zodiac itself is all the constellations that the sun appears to travel through over the course of the year. It is a very appropriate symbol for the traveling Convocation seat to have.Quote:
[You are] A singular radiance. Shimmering.
Like a jewel of the Dusk Mother, blinding in its brilliance.
Stars flicker and flock to you. Before such gathered light, even the secrets of the gods may be laid bare.
Some are fated to rise in grace and glory. Others to falter and fade, though not from memory. Both will be your strength and salvation come the end.
Cherish the stars and the light they bring you in the dark.
For you are a traveler, are you not?
So most of this post is going to be wandering trains of thought, but I just want to start on this one real fast.
I don't think Hydalyn is specifically watching us like you think she is. I feel like we were tapped sort of like why Elidibus existed. As Elidibus bore the hopes and dreams of Amaurot, Azem was the one to the world at large. Hydaelyn, through Venat, would have known about this, and it's entirely possible Azem's soul has been tapped multiple times in the past as needed.
Anyways, personal thoughts.
Elidibus is a Primal. It's starting to make me wonder if ELIDIBUS is who tempered the rest of the Convocation, rather than Zodiark. It stems from a train of thought where Zodiark and Hydaelyn are the "perfect" primals and any others are the pale imitations. No aether draining, no tempering, just...Exactly what the summoners wanted. Anything lesser, well... It would be part of why we never get tempered by Hydaelyn (You know, assuming we aren't) and why the Ascians had such a single minded goal. Sure, recovering Zodiark seems like the end game, but Emet Selch made it clear he wanted to bring back those lost when Zodiark was summoned. The cries of the people, not necessarily the will of Zodiark. SPeculation, but something to think about.
It's funny to me that Elidibus is exactly what the WoL was theorized to be so many times. A primal, born of people's wishes for salvation.
That part with Seto nearly made me cry. That was...Amazingly well done.
I did squee at Elidibus turning into the OG WoL. I was not expecting that at all.
I...Am forgetting things I wanted to mention, which bugs me, but I'll add them as I think of them.
Puppet's Bunker
I knew there was something off about 2P. I even made a thread about it.
On another note, I'm starting to wonder if the YoHRa ruins might be the First's equivalent to Allag, as in, the ruins of an advanced civilization that could be used to jumpstart or advance technological development?
Ah that, here!

After that Elidibus freaks out at you for a few lines before the trial begins.
Ok so I'm finally awake and can comment on the msq.
Where to start and how to begin. Most likely at the begiing will be sure to suffice....
I will agree that while I understand why they started off 5.3 with those three kids it did seem a little slow but *shrugs* if that little kitty girl wasn't adorable. It was also nice to have a name to the kid who asked us how we got so strong at the end of 5.0.
The contest with Alisaie was alright too but I definitely like how it started to pick up the pace after coming back from the source and seeing the scions comatose bodies. Speaking of the Dawn's Respite, I'm glad we are able to go in there after the msq is complete... it gives me more beds to mess around with...
Now onto the bigger part... Elidibus. Dear lord it all makes sense now as to why he never recognized us. He just plan up couldnt. Going through Amarout with him made me want to punch him more especially when he started conjuring up everyone and making us fight them again...strange though that he didn't even dare bring Ardbert and his friends into it guess he may have conveniently forgot about it as well.
The whole good byes from the scions to the people if the first were sad and sweet.. though Dullia Chai crying like she did made me laugh as well as Runar (not being mean about it at all) though I wish he had just come out and said he was in love with Yshtola... I read earlier that someone said it played out fast and out of no where but looking back on how he acted when he thought she was gone after fighting Ranjit and how he was when emet brought her back... nah that was decently paced as well as bitter sweet.
The thing that got me bawling the most though was Lyna's goodbye to the exarch before we fight Elidibus and then when we were taking the Scions and G'raha's soul and memories back to the source. That last one legitimately had me crying.
Now finally we find out that we were the 14th member and our name was Azem. Or I should say that was our title of office and I'm fine with that very happy in fact. Though am I the only one who wants to go to the "Little Sun" and throw it in his face that we are his dawn father? *looks around* anyone?
It is nice however to see the younger G'raha awake, though I did kinda want to see us wake him up. *shrugs* oh well. Btw loving the outfits that Tataru made for Yshtola Thancred and Urianger... and Alisaie being upset about it was funny.
Now I'm just hoping that Feo Ul will come visit us more on the source... btw where is out minion of her?!!?!?!
Edit: I can't believe I forgot the trial!
Omg that was a fun fight and the music. Elidibus as OG Amano version of the Warrior of Light was oh damn... and Emet helping us (weither it was him or not) it had me laughing to see him turn and leave with that wave of his. I so enjoyed it. I want to try the extreme one when I can and can't wait for the Shiva fight.
Moonfire Faire:
Lalafell come from Hawaii
Sort of tangent but relevant to MSQ
I kinda want our WoL(trailer version) to go into DFFOO just to see how they would react to the WoL, would we attack on sight, try to talk.
It'll never happen as FFXI doesn't have their one so doubt FFXIV would get theirs.

YoHRa: Dark Apocalypse Post-Bunker
I'm starting to worry for the twins, especially the now missing Anogg. The events of the questline did a heavy toll on her
Weylt
For a guy whose face is obscured, Valens sure looks and sounds punch-able.
Quests also gave me a chance to wear the Late Allagan glamour :D
Werlyt :
I liked it but too small. Wondering if we'll be able to fight once again with that arma...
But just one thing :
It was very disappointing for Regula van Hydrus. I wanted to see him, to fight him, to know more about him and his story... but no.
On Elidibus's Nature:
Elidibus is a primal. Okay, that makes sense. He was basically tempering the people of Norvrandt in 5.2, making them think and act like warriors of light, after they saw a starshower.
And ... wait a minute. There have been theories going around forever that we are immune to tempering because Hydaelyn got us first. But what if Elidibus got to us first? We did, after all, first start acting like the Warrior of Light right at the beginning of the game, after seeing a star shower...
And On His Actions:
However you look at things, this was not a victory. We slew hundreds of heroes from different worlds; likely leading to even greater loss of life and a much freer hand for the remaining Ascians. It's possible that was his real goal; he just wanted to make sure we were strong enough to 'kill' him (along with the very strongest of these heroes) and then make the standard Ascian escape.
Even more terrifyingly, while it seems like he didn't know the Crystal Tower could end him, it's possible he knows more than G'raha does, and that Elidibus is now in full control of the tower.
Alternatively, it's also entirely possible that Elidibus knew everything, and wanted to die - but couldn't achieve it any other way. Making things even more tragic.
So a lot of Npcs have updated
-Scions in Rising stones and extra room

There may be others I couldn't find Lyse, City leaders still barred from seeing
I heard in the new Dungeon you can find Hildibrand in it. If true has anyone manage to find his location?

Eorzean Gundam vs. Garlean Evangelion!
... except our Gundam was just a refurbished Allagan toy, and Sapphire Weapon was gimped. Terncliff was an interesting place to visit; those little border towns always remind me of Dollet from VIII for some reason. Predictably, none of the civilians there have anything positive to say about the Empire!
Valens van Varro is like, suuuuuuuuuper creepy. Someone should do something about him.
SO. We get some background info on the Duskwight holding Gaius' leash (I forget his name), and info on how Imperial Legates' armor is outfitted with data collection modules, which is how they got the combat data that's loaded into the Weapons. Yeah, totally expectin' Gaius' to be in Diamond.
Also, everyone knows you pilot in civvies. I mean, sure you could do it in a uniform or a specially designed suit (like the Late Allagan gear), but everyone knows real badasses go in civvies!
The Puppets' Bunker
Top 10 Anime Betrayals.
Seriously though, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense anymore. 2P helped us carve our way through Machine Lifeforms in the Copied Factory only to turn out to be a fully humanoid Machine herself... and then she calls in her friends who bomb Komra for no damn reason... and then 2B shows up out of nowhere to save you from her... and then you tear up the P-Units' Bunker to catch up to 2B, only for 2P to "birth" hundreds of unskinned copies of herself a la Adam and Eve from Automata who first fight as a sphere and then an amalgamated 2P.
What.
2B takes 9S and leaves to parts unknown, while guilt over the bombing incident leads Anogg to run away.
The last part of this better make some damn sense!
After mulling it over for a day, my thoughts on Elidibus:
He's ultimately a tragic and pitiable character, even if like the rest of the Ascians he was a genocidal madman.
From his true Ancient self's short stature, it can be inferred that like Zodiark was kept a child in Ivalician lore, Elidibus was very young (if not a child himself) when he took up his station and sacrificed himself to serve as Zodiark's heart. However, now being a part of Zodiark, he had to summon himself as a primal with the wish of "making all the Ancients happy" to interact with them, despite their differing viewpoints. Of course that failed and Hydaelyn was summoned, leaving to the 12,000 year struggle to reassemble Zodiark's fractured being so he could fulfill his purpose... but even when the last of the unsundered, Lahabrea and Emet-Selch, passed on, he still had to serve the purpose he was "created" for despite none of those who wished for his creation still being alive. Unlike the sundered Ascians, who could live in blissful ignorance, or even Lahabrea and Emet-Selch, who could have chosen to live normal lives (upon lives upon lives, etc.) Elidibus literally could not adapt to a changing world.
Ultimately, Elidibus was nothing more than a ghost of the ancient past - even more than Lahabrea and Emet-Selch, since his nature as a primal caused him to forget the very people who "created" him in the first place when they all passed on and he began drawing on the hope of heroes across the worlds for strength. Without the hope of heroes to empower him we are finally able to see Elidibus for what he truly was: a broken, lonely child who only wanted to see his loved ones smile again.
No wonder Emet-Selch helped us send him off. It was a damn mercy.
As for his summoning of "heroes," don't feel too bad. It was later stated he wasn't doing a full summoning, but only summoning the fragments of souls that wished to "eradicate all evil" or something along those lines; presumably the whole is fine on whatever world it came from.
On the PC's true identity
I mean, the sun fits beyond the Zodiac stuff. As the closest star it's also the only one we can say for sure is alive; many stars in the night sky are long dead, perhaps referencing how the Ascians' time has moved on but through the cycle of death and rebirth Azem has endured through the ages, much like the rising and setting of the sun.
If memory serves me right Hythlodaeus said Azem's memory wasn't well committed to due to their refusal to join the summoning of Zodiark, but that Emet-Selch still considered them a friend and is implied to be the stones' creator. Like as not he figured out the PC's identity at some point and left Azem's soul crystal, for want of a better term, behind in order to give his old friend a send-off, having accepted the passing of Amaurot and the time of the Ancients but knowing Elidibus simply cannot do the same.
Zenos and his Accomplice.
That it was Asahi('s body) was predictable enough. That it was being exploited by a fragmented Overlord, decidedly less so.
Either way, I hope they seriously up Fandaniel's writing or it's going to feel like a major step back after the excellence of Emet-Selch and Elidibus. Zenos really should have stayed off the damn stage; we already did the shonen rivalry bit with him, and he serves no other real narrative purpose.
Regardless, I'm going to watch Fandaniel much more closely than Zenos, since as an Ascian he's probably got hidden agendas and such up his sleeve (unlike Zenos, who is so single-minded in his purpose that Elidibus couldn't make a particularly cohesive phantom of him).
I'd like to try some Archon loaf, just to see how bad the texture and taste are. Supposedly it requires "feats of mastication" to consume, and that's probably one of the funniest phrases I've ever heard.
About the MSQ crystals
Saw an interesting twitter post from @Igeyorhm about each crystal, especially the one about Leo, Fandaniels.
https://d2pqhom6oey9wx.cloudfront.ne...3418f55212.jpg
Fandaniel's crystal quote:
https://d2pqhom6oey9wx.cloudfront.ne...341e0ba24b.png
My guess is that maybe the 'sound' that scared the ancient might have corrupted Fandaniel somehow.
And on a more big guess, what if this 'sound' was reborn as Zenos?
About the Pink Crystalhttps://d2pqhom6oey9wx.cloudfront.ne...341e0ba24b.png
I'm pretty sure this is a reference of when the entire Convocation of Thirteen got Tempered after they summoned Zoidark. The crystals show the memories they have in order of the events that happened leading up to the sundering and that group of crystals was about the decision to summon Zoidark.
Werlyt stuff
The town we go to is pretty sweet. If we end up going to Garlemald in the future, I hope we get a hub city like this.
Milisandia's age was fixed, and Ricon's was revealed: 20 and 17 respectively. Just barely adults, really. I'd be more sympathetic, but I feel more sorry for Gaius losing his kids than I do for his kids dying.
Just like Ruby Weapon, we have confirmation that Sapphire's appearance and some of its capability comes down to having absorbed a primal. And as I've said before on the topic of the Ruby Weapon, primals don't just come out of nowhere. There's a pretty decent chance that Gaius's kids were responsible for empowering their respective Weapons—though I'm not so heartless as to not feel sorry over the abuse they suffer at Valens' hands.
Speaking of Valens, they actually modeled/textured sweat on him. And the milk drinking and cup throwing was pretty smooth, too. That's all the nice things I have to say about him—the guy's a jerk. Hope he gets a kick in the ribs or ten by the time this is all over.
I wonder if we'll see G-Warrior in action again, or if this was strictly a one-time thing. It'd be shame if it was left to gather dust while we 8-Manned Emerald and Diamond.
From Reddit, Dungeon poilers, natch

If you go up to him, he has a popup text balloon saying "Where am I? ... Who am I?", which to me either adds in to the whole "incompletely summoned" thing, or could actually suggest he was summoned from the time period where he had amnesia.
It is, of course, Hildibrand. It probably isn't supposed to have lore significance. But if it did, pulling him from a different time period is, well, the sort of weird thing that would beg for theorizing.
Copied Factory into Puppet's Bunker
Actually it makes a bit more sense when you think of what was going on in the Copied Factory. The Machine Lifeforms inside the raid were hacked and under the command of 9S. In his native game he is a extremely skilled hacker. As 2P is 9S' enemy, naturally they targetted her and anyone with her because they did not have a choice in the matter. Had 2P not been present, the robots would have likely still attacked us but 9S would have probably been a bit more open for conversation.
As for the boss, the Machine Lifeforms were experimenting with birth as explained in the collectables after the raid. 1 in 2B's room and 4 in the command center. As for why the boss looked like that... Yoko Taro likes to make grotesque giant women. He's weird like that.
Become what you must. Become ten characters.
Yeah, I was going around to whomever I could recall at two in the morning clicking NPCs and checking for updated dialogue. Giott, Taynor and Cerigg are in the Wandering Stairs, as is Cyella obviously. Lue-Reeq is with Olvara outside Eulmore. I couldn't find Granson, though.
Phyna (the Viis sister who left Fanow) made it to the Crystarium. She's near the entrance to the Pendants, with another (non-clickable) Viis admiring a tree.
Most of the Crystarium NPCs have dialogue about the Exarch, mostly of the "we're sad he's no longer with us, but we'll always remember his wisdom" sort. And then there's Eidith in the Musica Universalis markets, who's heartbroken over Thancred leaving.
I don't know if this is something I missed from 5.2, but Rae-Qesh in the Cabinet of Curiosity is pondering the marvels of the world, like Ryne talking about finding a bird underwater.
For the secondary Scions, as mentioned the ones in the Rising Stones have dialogue, and I still think Aenor needs to get timed out in horny jail. They also mentioned Isildaure and Alianne visiting Doma, and they are indeed in the Doman Enclave, at the One Garden area, with Homei.
I don't know where Ryne (or Gaia, for that matter) is hanging out.
My headcanon is that the heroes were "summoned" in the same way the characters in the mega-crossover games like DFFOO and Brave Exvius (and other gacha) were "summoned": simplified and only technically there, and once they're done, they get reverted back with little to no knowledge of what happened.
The crossover events we have in FFXIV with other properties were more substantial summonings in comparison.
I base this on how every "hero" we faced who bothered to even talk to us (as opposed to throw themselves at us with no expository banter) just mumbled stuff about vanquishing darkness, as opposed to the long dramatic soliloquies about the value of life and living as they usually do when faced with villains.
I figure it makes sense that Tataru, a Dwarf of the Source, would make a version of Discworld Dwarf Bread. (Which has been described in various ways, albeit mostly to describe how indescribable it is. "Gravel", "forged rather than baked", "highly nutritious due to the owner deigning to eat anything else rather than the dwarf bread in question" are but a few examples.)Quote:
I'd like to try some Archon loaf, just to see how bad the texture and taste are. Supposedly it requires "feats of mastication" to consume, and that's probably one of the funniest phrases I've ever heard.
EDIT: Hilarious bit of forum software weirdness: I had to make sure the total number of words in and outside of spoiler blocks was under 3000 characters, while also making sure there were at least 10 characters outside the spoiler blocks.
Yeah. I thought the end paragraph would bypass the 10char limit, but then I was told I had too many characters. So, in my "screw it, that will do, Byregot can fix it later" mood, I cut out that last paragraph, added in the first, posted, then edited the last paragraph back in.
Yes, I could have cut out one of the spoiler-block paragraphs instead, but that required more brainpower on the spot that I was capable of, and worse, would actually make sense.
In regards to that final cutscene...
Asahi has to be the most bullied character who ever lived. It's bad enough that he fell in love with someone who never even looked him in the eye and passed over him in favor of his sister, but then an ancient ghost possessed that guy's body and gave him a special job. Not only did Asahi fail that job, if he had lived and escaped he would've been killed by what he believed to be his crush.
And then, after all is said and done, some other ancient ghost makes fun of him, calls him a simp, and steals his bank account.
Like, he deserves it, but damn.
