Am I odd cause all miqo'tes look japanese to me.
Midlanders, Miqotes and Au Ra are Asian looking.
You could make your own character a PoC or fund the development of a game that has a more diverse main cast.
This is real life... this is a FANTASY MMO, there are TONS of other races running around. It's not like we all Hyur's
I think the precise term would be a "himbo".
Anyways, triggering aside, the word also carries a negative connotation about ones intelligence. As much as I liked Yda, she was the literal definition of a dumb blonde, if somehwhat different from the image people usually associate with those words.
Minfilia canonically was a capable and intelligent leader... within the fanbase however, she's memed upon to no end as an utterly useless character, so it still kinda checks out.
This might be a troll thread but none of y'all with lily white character models will ever understand the challenge of trying to play hide-and-seek in a main town and being the first one found every time because there are so few dark-skinned characters and NPCs to blend in with.
The struggle is real.
Try putting on a red stripped sweater and some glasses. Next thing you know, everybody and their damn cousin is out searching for you even if you went down the road to buy a coffee. Ugh! Life turns in hide-and-seek when all you wanted was to wear a stripped sweater!
representation? we have black skinned dragon people running around with moogles and cat girls having drinks with elfs and asians? how much more diversity do you need?
Outside of all the people who really have no say about what diversity is or isn't (you know who you are). I'll like some more African features for characters in the game hair styles and facial hair and what not. Its a fantasy game so if I wanna make my character look somewhat like me should be able to do that.
I think it is pretty apparent what they meant. Unless you look a certain way, you don't get to discuss what is or what isn't. It is just as Joven said, "they only want a certain type of diversity."
This topic has accomplished the task it was attempting to complete; it has thrown the bait and many people bit (including myself) and now it is just dangling in the ocean waiting for others.
So you're the authority on diversity because of skin color? Diversity isn't limited to skin color or facial features. This game offers a vast amount of diversity of characters ranging from tall and short, dark skinned and light skinned, male and female, human and non-human, diversity of thought, etc. On top of that works of fiction have absolutely no imperative to represent anyone or anything outside of what the creator wants.
It's probably on the basis of some spurious theory that you have to belong to a "minority" group to have a valid opinion on things. In the end, if you're a paying customer, that is the only qualification you need to comment on diversity in the game and whether you want to see more or less of it.
I don't really consider it is needed to ask for skin color variety, it is already diverse. If they don't look like, you know, like someone from Africa... Consider that Africa doesn't exist in Eorzea... I don't know MAYBE in the future a hidden culture that looks like your want to see might reveal themselves, like The Viera and Hrothgar.
The whole "its a fantasy game excuse is tired and old." Real life is the basis for fantasy and the stories they tell. There is a normal human like race in the game why is it you have an issue for people asking for some hair options so they better represent more people?
Outside of the trolly nature of the OP. Why can't they add a few more options.
There's already a number of hair options that could be considered to be 'diverse'. Many of which have been there right from the launch of ARR.
Come to think of it, though, I don't recall ever seeing any player characters making use of them. Which suggests to me that the demand might not actually be all that great after all.
Real life is only the basis for fantasy so people can have better context to associate certain things in the story. It's easier to undertand a fictional planet if you say it has "Earth-like properties", meaning there's blue skies, green foliage, etc. This doesn't mean it has to be an exact 1:1. Just because a story has a human-like race doesn't mean that particular race has to incompass the entire spectrum of our reality's humans. It just means their appearance is humanoid.
These forums are a damn joke.
Even if OP is some troll shit, I can't understand arguing AGAINST more options like curly hair. I personally couldn't give less of a care about how SE markets this Japanese made game, I care only about what options they give players to express themselves and those options are clearly lacking for people who want curly hair styles. Part of that is because of the curse of that damn hair contest that will be over soon.
What "diverse" hair styles are you seeing?
Me? I see the shit locs that are gender locked to females for w/e reason, the borderline offensive 70s fro with massive sideburns even on females annnnd a couple of other styles that are either gender/ clan/ race locked (like the okish looking Middie female Afro Mohawk that isn't one of the shared hairstyles with Highlanders for w/e reason. I almost converted to middie for it but I love my thighlander too much to change for legit 1 not great hair style) or not good looking cause, like most things, the devs have improved a ton at making hair since ARR.
If people don't use old hair styles it's prob cause, ya know, they don't think they look good ... not because they're against that type of hair. I legit have an afro right now ... I've had it for 5 years now. I'd NEVER use the one in game cause it looks like a poorly textured joke to me personally.
Exactly. I can see a lot of ruffled feathers in this thread over the OP’s question, but there’s no denying that this game is very pale. Even the viera npcs have light skin.

I swear the last 60% of threads on front page has been necros but no mod action to prevent this hrmm
Technically every character is a POC since it's made by Japanese people.
From the title I was expecting another thread by militaryvet. . .now I am sad.
while i agree that xiv has tonnes of representation in its npcs, it would be nice to have a scion that wasnt pale skinned with light coloured hair, just to have a more varied colour pallet. just an opinion tho.
