Been experiencing this since maintenance on Monday, the game is nigh-unplayable for me -- especially if I'm in combat.
After being back to normal for a few days after the hotfix patch. Out of nowhere, I am having 90k disconnects again today. I'm at a loss.
I'm having the same issues. I can barely run alliance raids as this is when I seen the problem the most. My receiving ping would barely go over 200 in the past but now since the last hotfix I'm getting around 15K now then I will crash with 90K disconnect. While I did reach out to my ISP they can find nothing wrong on my end. I did some testing and after I disconnect with 90k error I attempt to get on the net and run some speed test and everything is testing out find. I just don't know what else to do.
I experience this almost everyday, multiple times a day.
At first i got that 90002 error and after that now all i've been getting is 2002 errors.
Keep getting 90k'd, when I do make it into the datacentre, I get hit by 2002 while it tries loading my character.
And on the few times i've actually made it into the game, everything just freezes after 10-20 seconds before 90k again
I'm really at a loss for what to do. I've been playing the game relatively fine for the last few days, with the occasional disconnect.
I'll log in as normal, connect... Sometimes it 2002's me straight away. Sometimes, i can connect to the server and try logging in as a character.
...In the event i'm able to, it will disconnect me after around 30 seconds to a minute, with a 90002 error... And then when i try connecting to a data center again, gives me the 2002 error.
I've tried resetting my router, but with no difference. Any advice will be helpful!
At first I got that "90002 error" and after that now all I've been getting is "2002 error" on PS4.
I have to express some frustration and to proclaim the issue is not on our end. Even if there is something I can do on my end to make it more playable or less likely to disconnect... that shouldn't fall on us to do. I can play literally any other online game and not have this level of difficulty with disconnects, I can browse the internet in general without any issues, I have a very solid connection when downloading or uploading... it's literally just this game, and it baffles me that a company as large as Square Enix is struggling so much with stable connectivity. Internet protocols have evolved very slowly, and while brands of hardware may vary, the overall workings of internet connection do not vary that significantly. How do you fail to handle the basic elements of connectivity this much?
Over these last posts listed I have done more tinkering research and troubleshooting than I have ever done for any other video game, and if you'll pardon a bit of impertinence, a fair amount more than I think any of us should have to do.
At this point I could write a guide on all the steps a player can take to try to fix issues on their end. I know, 90002 is a generic disconnect error. There could be a myriad of ways it could be caused. However, when we've diagnosed the software, hardware, contacted customer support and ISP, tweaked advanced settings I've never had to do before for drivers... what else is there to even do? This isn't our fault.
I'll keep an eye on things here to see if anyone has more ideas for a solution. Ultimately, though, I'm utterly fatigued of it and resigning my own efforts to look into this further.
I am not too sure what it is if its my ISP, my modem/router hybrid getting old, Playstation Network being clunky, my powerline adapter getting old, a combination of all those, or something else entirely. I just know its annoying and if its truly the Data Server side I hope they can do all they can to mitigate it as it effects gameplay. Honestly when I think about the Soulbinding and Durability adjustment to reduce "System Stress" the last patch I think it was to reduce the Data Server system stress because that takes some of the numbers that the server has to read constantly. I don't know enough about computer science and networking to say for sure though is the thing about this though.
For everyone that is experiencing issues. Please make sure to go through support chat and tell them you are experiencing these issues and that you follow all troubleshooting and it did not help.
I find support ticket goes to generic person that gives generic responses and leads no where. What we need is a support staff to open 1 master ticket and include all those reporting issues in that ticket so it gets escalated properly to have it looked at.
Who knows, maybe while patching all the servers some servers didn't get all the proper patch files, hence causing weird disconnects. Otherwise it is definitely server load related and they are over hosting. At this moment I don't know what it is anymore.
My wife is on ps4, I am on pc. We get disconnects but not at the same time. If square Enix argue it is my isp, both my wife and I should get drop together.
It is not an ISP problem, this I know 100%
I'm late to the party here, but I've been really frustrated with the constant 9001, 9002 and 9003 errors I get everyday. It's has been happening since the week after 5.2 came out. I've tried everything from contacting ISP, reinstalling, formatting windows, different PC, I still DC randomly and it's beyond frustrating. I will even disconnect with a VPN running.
Some nights I have zero issues, some minor and others constantly dcs out of the blue. Friends even say I'm still in-game and never logged off. I hope this will be fixed soon, but I've been saying this since March 2020.
What I will say is since this has been happening, I havn't had any rubber-band issues at all and completely forgot about them even being a thing actually. I rubber banned a lot before and made the game unplayable at times. I only remembered because someone mentioned it and I was like wow I use to rubber band a lot and now it never happens anymore.

Hi all! I have been an on and off player since 2.0, and have had no real issues before. however recently (the last week) i have been getting constant brief lag spikes and occasional full disconnects. I am using the same router, modem, and computer that i have been using for the last year. I tried looking for some solutions such as using my vpn to put me in a different location, changing my IP address to googles, reinstalled the game, made sure all drivers for EVERYTHING were up to date, restarted my modem and router, and prayed to any god that will listen. any advice? (all other services work perfectly on my computer even during the disconnects with ffxiv)
on Goblin
I've submitted another ticket today. It's getting ridiculous. I've had four so far today alone. It's having significant issues and interfering with my ability to play. For example I joined a Main Scen in-progress and 90002 errored, and when I finally returned I'd been vote-kicked for Offline. I joined Trials roulette and got The Navel (Hard). 90k'd upon joining and when I returned, while loading, took a Landslide to the face and died. I'm sure most of you are aware, if you die during that trial, you can't get raised, so it prevented me from being able to actively participate.
I can imagine it would also be horrible if it happened during a few select trials where a Tank LB3 is required to progress. A lot actually does depend on us being able to maintain a stable connection throughout the fights; this bug is not just an irritation, it actually interferes with gameplay. I'll keep you posted if they write anything helpful back.
Yep. Both on PC, both using wired connection, both taking exactly the same traceroute to the game, both on Windows 10. And yet he hasn't reported any disconnects. That would seem to trace to an issue on my end, but I am legitimately out of ideas on what I can troubleshoot on my end.
In this case port forwarding on router may not work as its only for 1 up address.. Is your router upnp enabled?
You also get disconnects when your spouse doesn't play right?
I guess you guys must have tried swapping computers and you still get disconnect while your spouse doesn't?
I added the port forwarding for my IP, since it's the one having troubles. I get disconnects when spouse is not playing as well as while playing. I haven't tried swapping computers, admittedly, no. Might be a bear and a half since we have wildly different configs, but if support gets back to me and they can't figure anything out it's worth a shot to set up for some weekend.
Just gonna add my voice to the chorus here.
He played on my computer, and I on his for a time, and he had the 90002 error, while I did not. He also uses the non-Steamworks version and I use Steam, so that also narrows it down to something very localized to my end. (By which I mean it clearly has nothing to do with Steamworks or a difference between versions.)
I have also tried once again scrubbing and reinstalling the game, still having 90k2 disconnects.
Next thing I'm trying. I saw a thing that said that you can disable uPnP and that might help. So I went into the config and noticed... the uPnP is using a port that isn't even covered in the ports that tech support said I should have open. So... I'm opening that port now. If that doesn't work, I'll try disabling uPnP. After that... idk, I'll keep an eye out here.
Edit 1: Enabling the uPnP port did not help. Disabling uPnP via config.
Edit 2: Disabled uPnP, still disconnected.
I've been trying to deal with this issue, but it's been incredibly bad today. I was in Malikah's Well, and I 90002ed 3 times before the first boss (4th time during the first boss). I gave up at that point. Nothing else is disconnecting when this happens (discord, netflix, etc). No lag or hiccups in game before/during this problem, either. Also, it's only been happening since 5.3's release for me. Did all the troubleshooting steps the reps have posted over and over on this forum, and it hasn't helped. Really not sure what else to do at this point, since it seems reps stop posting after they've given the basic troubleshooting steps.
can you help me try one thing.. on the Router side, swap your network cable port with your spouse's port. So basically his computer's network cable will be plugged into your router's old port which your current computer is using, and your computer would be using his router port.
I also know it is not the installation files causing this... something else is causing these conflicts/disconnects. It may not necessary mean network related too I find.
What antivirus/anti malware software do you have installed?
Honestly, I didn't have much disconnects prior to 5.3. After 5.3, I am getting these a lot more frequent. At first, I thought it was network related, but I am starting to think while network could potentially cause 90002, it may be something else lurking. Square Enix has offered most of us ZERO help. Except giving us generic messages which is complete useless. At the end, we get brushed off that it is ISP issue when no one else has issues playing any other game than FF14.
So here is what I want everyone on this forum post to do, we need to work together, and try to figure out how to lower these disconnects ourselves.
So Kelly has done extensive tests already, mostly on networking side ( including VPN ), network cable, network card and still has disconnects. So if Kelly does that one last test ( swapping the port with spouse on the router and still disconnects ), I think it should be fair to say we can lower the networking aspect to potentially causing a lot of 90002.
Next thing we should start doing is gathering some information from all the affect members about windows 10 build version, software that starts up on boot, what antivirus/anti malware, which video card and slowly see if we can find some potential match in configuration that might help us figure out how to lower the 90002 disconnects. Having configurations and apps that start up on computers that don't have 90002 disconnects may also help.
hmm something strange I am still scratching my head on. While going through my program/services startup list. I noticed that my windows defender firewall is running... Strange because when you check windows defender settings, it says it is managed by norton. But yet I am running the norton firewall as well? I saw FF14 allow rules were not in the windows defender firewall settings for in/out bound. I added them.. going to retest and see if it helps with my 90002.
I thank you for your advice, but I have already tried this to no avail. We aren't using a router (or rather, not a separate device from the modem) either. So it's just the one box. As for the antivirus/antimalware, I'm running Malwarebytes Premium, but to be honest I had kind of forgotten to reinstall it following a reinstallation of Windows 6 months ago, so I don't believe the two are related. I have also made sure the game has exceptions/permissions related to both mbam and Windows Defender.
I've 90k'd again this morning, sadly.
se needs to get off there butt and do something this is getting bad and paying for something that cant be used is not right this patch that is comming today who knows what gonna happen next
I have both Norton and Malwarebytes installed.. Malwarebytes updated roughly when 5.3 came out for me.
So far I haven't gotten disconnects after adding into Windows Defender firewall exceptions for Ff14 launcher, boot and dx11 for both inbound and outbound. Malwarebytes I also always had program exception for the same in there too. However because as you know, 90002 is random, I need more time to see if it really did get better or not
Kelly can you try the same, add boot/ffxivlauncher.exe boot/ffxivboot.exe and game/ffxivdx11exe in both Malwarebytes program exemption and in Windows Defender firewall rules for TCP and udp for both income and outgoing tabs. Restart computer and then launch Ff14 to try.
So, while mucking around, for kicks, I tried the Windows troubleshooter, and it say that the DNS server is not responding, regardless of whether it's set to the Xfinity DNS or the Google one. That is obviously not true, because I am connected and talking right now. I have absolutely no idea if this is at all related to my issue, but I'm making a note of it because it's... weird. I can't find any trace of an issue quite like this on Google.
I tried everything I could, have called the support and in game GM, pretty much tried everything except get a VPN....
The GM told me to check the forum and get tech support....
The tech support try to blame it on my internet and my computer and everything on my end, even ask me to install benchmark. I called my internet provider and they said there is no issue on their end, tried tech support again and get the same thing. Almost want to rage quit..... and then after reading online reddit and have FC mate suggest me to get a VPN... I ended up spending extra money to pay for VPN service....
And.... no more disconnect after. Which means the problem is..... SE's end but they just refuse to admit it. The fact that I have to pay extra monthly fee just to play a game that I am already paying monthly is just sad. BTW, nothing else in my household has issues, ONLY this game, not my PSN, Xbox Gold, HULU, Netflix.... nothing else has issue.
Hope this helps. Hope SE fix this soon, or it will probably get fixed when server is no longer overloaded. Because pretty much every in the past this happens to me when a new patch comes out and server is so full that you will have to wait in que to get in. Just think about it, not everyone will log off especially at prime time in the evening.... so someone has to get booted. My record is going into Shiva unreal and got booted 6 times in 5 minutes. After I use VPN, no more booting anymore.
Any disconnects yet?
I didn't get the typical 90002 today. Played for several hours actually entire day. Then I did encounter one 90001 in eulmore. But it wasn't 90002 that I usually get being dropped from instances.
Need more time to try and see if the Defender firewall rules made any difference... 1 disconnect I am okay with as it really could be just a packet loss hiccup but its multiple disconnects per day that drives you nuts and you know your internet isn't with issues at the time of the disconnect.
For the DNS thing you can do this. I had it happen before and this seemed to have fixed that. Not relating to this game of course.
Open command prompt as admin.
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
NETSH winsock reset catalog
NETSH int ipv4 reset reset.log
NETSH int ipv6 reset reset.log
https://windowsreport.com/dns-issues-windows-10/
I did, just now, and in regards to the post below about flushing the DNS, renewing the ip, winsock resets, I have done that too. At this point, I'm considering the nuclear option; most of my stuff is placed on another physical hard drive so nuking Windows isn't exactly going to set me back too far.
I am not sure if reinstall windows + ff14 is going to resolve this.. worth a try maybe, but definitely don't be upset if it doesn't end up resolving this. If you do take this route, after a fresh windows 10 install, only install your video card drivers then install FF14 so basically its the only thing installed.
but the answer still has to compare between your spouse's computer.. What is different on that computer compared to yours. What programs/services boot up on startup that you have in your computer and not the other one.
wait for the 5.3.1 patch tomorrow.. see if it makes any difference. All I know is these disconnects started for me since 5.3 release.
se didnt fix jack still dcing
