Gotta love you can't see it any class outfits(usually lv 50 ones in CC) looking at the image they might really be in high crunch time

I wonder if this picture is a sign of us getting the benchmark soon so we can play with the Character creation on Vieras (and Hrothgars) and see sneak peaks of content that's not going to be in the game.
ITT: People seeing a single page in character creation and claiming the devs lied about more customisation.
This community never ceases to amaze me sometimes. Wait till the benchmark for Christ's sake, talk about overreaction.
I didn't expect anything different. Every race gets five options. If they figure out a way to give Viera six, everyone should be able to have six. But I don't think they'll be tinkering with those underlying settings unless they do a large-scale overhaul of character creation - and I'm certainly not holding my breath for that.
They'll need to provide a quote proving that they promised more customisation in the first place before they can fairly complain about the lack of it.
Until then, I remain convinced that it's a misinterpretation of what the devs actually said, and they never promised a larger number of character options.
all unrealistic expectations aside theyre only showing us one side of the screen
I watched it. I remember them showing off the designs they made, but never got the impression there would be any more actual options than other races.
The closest I remember was showing the same hairstyle with or without bangs, but that could just be taking up two hairstyle slots, like some others already do.
The opposite of "assuming the worst" is to be certain we're getting things they did not actually promise us.
I don't know about everyone else but I don't think the thread is an overreaction. I thought they would at least have a facial feature that was their own. The bushy eyebrows the Miqote have, the eye shadow several females have, and the beauty mark several females have.
I could be wrong, but the option is selected, and they look stupid long. So that's what I assumed.
Edit: Looking at it more, it looks like the lower lashes are already existing since you can see them in the other options.
If anything this just shows how easy male viera can be created. When it eventually does
you can have unique options without adding EXTRA options, to go into the character creator and add more slots for stuff is not an easy or cheap task most likely (plus as theyve said multiple times, adding to the cc is a very big diminishing return because the ONLY time you see it is new character or after buying a fantasia, and if they added a ton of shit to the cc EVERYBODY WOULD BE BITCHING ABOUT BEING FORCED TO BUY FANTASIAS TO USE THEM!), plus we can already pull off the viera clawhands ingame, theres a decent chance any heeled shoe glams going forward may have a bit of extra heel with viera in mind, and rather than a muscle slider we may get finger length (more likely to be ear length or ear rotation, but hey), and they may have been able to repurpose a couple less useful sliders to do something interesting or tweaked the height slider to size you differently (lol make hrothgar get only slightly taller, they just get more swole instead)
also everybodys forgetting hempen set, whats that gonna look like?
Looks great to me. Super hyped about Viera :)
Not changing into one (lala's forever), but looking forward to seeing them running around.
Yoshi and translator said it live stream during EU and JP Fanfest, and iirc it was mentioned in one of those main interviews going around. Same for Hrothgar.
Now that's just a random screenshot that proof nothing, there could be plenty of other options we don't see or that are not present in the state of development of that picture.
It was just funny for me that the sneak peek doesn't express that as all: 5 options like the other races and 3/5 options are eyelashes parts.
I wonder if people have forgotten that viera hair can have bangs or no bangs and tiny flowers or no flowers.
Here is the part where they talked about Viera and Hrothgar customization. I'm not sure if they talked about it elsewhere.

Thankyou for the link and timepoint to start from.

Dot points on screen:
- Both have unique heads
- Both have unique customizable features
2:03:40
So both have very unique heads, as you can see - and so because of this, both have very unique customizable features, things that you won't see in any other races.
2:04:15
It's like I mentioned - with the character creation it will be very detailed - the people checking on this character creation right now, there are so many different options that the guy checking that right now basically has not come out of his booth.
2:05:40
So we talked the character customisation, how deep it is - we actually created two characters here with that customisation, and these are some of the things you can make if you try hard... [shows Kimahri and Fran pictures]
2:06:12
Again, we talked about how face patterns and designs... a lot of very unique options for players to choose from.
2:06:40
(Yoshida moves onto the next part of the keynote.)
As I've been saying - they talk a lot about unique options, and they do say that there are a lot of design options that they need to check, but they do not at any point say there will be a larger number of design elements than other races have. (I'm sure there are a lot of things to test and get right, even with the same amount of features that the normal races have.)
People hear what they want to hear, and these ambigous statements get taken as promising additional customisation, and it gets passed on as "they said it in the keynote!" without anyone actually confirming the original quotes.
And then, most likely, we get another round of angry posts claiming "they lied to us!!!" when we finally get to see the full extent of customisation and it doesn't have the extra features that everyone "knew" had been officially promised, even if nobody could provide a direct source.
I point it out because this was used as a sign of how unique they're head options will be.
Iirc she said you can turn bangs on or off. That's why everyone reacted to her statement. They show 4 different versions of 1 hairstyle leading me to believe that they're gonna have ways to control that. Having a system in place for that would hint that the amount of bangs and other options you can have will be large enough that it would be too much needless clutter the current way.
Who knows how deep it goes. They said that they put tons of effort and care into these 2 races heads and they'd prob want Viera to have options on par with HROTHGAR. Given their appearance I'd think hair and ears are the likely options for unique customization.
We can only wait.
Here is the discussion about the Hrothgar heads. It came from an interview and this translation. Someone could double check the translation.

"Q: Why were you so insistent on adding a beast-like race, the Hrothgar?
A: The great thing about MMORPGs is that people from around the world with different values and tastes can all come together and play. FF games have good-looking men and women, but FFX is an example of a stronger look. Guin Saga may be a better example, but at any rate, since we're creating a fantasy, I want to shine a spotlight on that aspect as well. Even if we added another handsome race, it felt like the only real difference would be the ear shape. Back when we showed off a basic sketch of a wolfman, a lot of players around the world voiced their desire for a wolf race in 4.0. At our current patch rate, with that much equipment data being released, and adding a new race multiplying the amount of work required, we could probably only add one more race with our current workflow. We agonized over which race to add, and ended up with what you see now, and the lion T-shirt I'm wearing now *laughs*
Q: With the two new races' unique heads, how will their headgear work?
A: It won't be displayed, because those face parts wouldn't work in FFXIV's system if headgear were involved. Even Viera ears would've had to be moved down to where Miqo'te ears are. It would've been meaningless if you couldn't go all-out creating characters from these new races, so we decided that helmets wouldn't be necessary. You can equip them, but they won't be displayed. However, things that replace the head are OK, like the snowman head, fat chocobo head, etc. No glasses. Basically, the default is that it won't be shown, and only things that replace the head are ok. We'll make more things compatible over time, bit by bit, but they won't be compatible at launch.
Q: Are there NPC Vieras that wear glasses?
A: Even if they tried to make them, I think I would've stopped them. It leads to players complaining that the NPC can wear them but they can't. I want to think of a way to reduce development costs for this eventually when the dev team isn't so busy.
Q: When did you decide to implement the female-only Viera and male-only Hrothgar?
A: It was during Return to Ivalice, around 3 months after 4.0. Viera was confirmed then, and Hrothgar came about at the same time when we were discussing plans with Matsuno-san. We were deciding whether to make a Hrothgar female or a Viera female, and after selecting Viera, work began right away, because otherwise we wouldn't make it in time. As mentioned before, the face parts are special and Hrothgar has big differences between its faces, like a lion face, wolf face, leopard face. It became a fixed model relatively recently. Viera was done right before Paris Fan Fest, and Hrothgar was done recently."

@Taybat and the people that liked your post: If it takes that much work and resources to make children of a race, just try to imagine the amount of work required to make a fully customizable adult race.Quote:

Q: I like playing as a Roegadyn, could you share any details on how Roegadyn children might look?
A: I also personally like playing as a Roegadyn, so this interests me as well. I’ve tried to bring them up during development in the past, but apparently, this is limited to one race at a time due to the amount of resources required to create them. So first they lost to Miqo’te children, then they lost to Auri Children… so they’ve lost twice so far. I have a personal interest in them as well, so I’d like to discuss this with Quest Designer Takayanagi.
That quote comes from here.
Thank you for finding that.
Seriously?
"There are so many different options"
"A lot of very unique options"
Right in front of my salad?!
Sorry, I'm not going to continue because what they say and your answer makes everything as clear as water.
furthermore they should know by now making ambiguous statements is bad.
