You gotta see to believe it. Even the best psp game released so far, graphics wise that would be parasite eve 3rd birthday or kingdom hearts birth by sleep, looks cheap comparable with any vita game so far. Even not being that close to the uncharted from ps3, vita uncharted managed to get 90% character modeling and 80% scenery compared with uncharted ps3. Give some time and yes, they could make it look 95% as the ps3 counterpart. I heard FIFA vita looks the same as the ps3 minus some game modes. Final fantasy X, was kinda of obvious that it wouldn't be a remake. But more a HD version on the likes of god of war hd. I will get it anyway ;)
Well, goodness knows I'd like to be able to play through my Vita - and the touchscreen keyboard on the thing being as good as it is it'd probably be easier to chat through it than with the PS3, even if you do have one of those keypad controller attachments.
Not that I'm worried whether it'll happen, not least because Yoshida already named the Playstation Vita as a platform they're taking into account as a future platform in current plans. By the time S-E are in a position to develop a Vita-based client, I suspect it will have a worthwhile userbase for the endeavour, and it most certainly can run the new client if the PS3 can. Obviously the client would have to be optimised for the task, but those saying it's impossible are I can only assume being a bit blinkered by the way things are now - 1: Our current client is coded in such a way as to be intensely processor dependent, a problem that'll be rectified with the new engine moving over to DX11, and 2: It'll be repurposed to be friendly to lower end systems.
Factor in this is a dedicated gaming platform we're talking about, not a PC with all the inefficiencies that have to be taken into account.. of course it's possible.
That said, what I'm not so sure about and would love, would be if, as others have suggested, the PS Vita could be complimentary to a client on the PS3 (or even PC). Say, running an independent log window or inventory control or something.
That's because most of consumers expectations are quite low that we are getting games running at 30fps. I'm sorry but I'm not enjoying most of games when they cannot even run with a solid 30fps... Then again, I'm not asking for xiv on vita to run at 60fps, but if other games cannot, xiv will never. Square Enix fail at optimising anything they develop.
Only few triple A title can deserve a full $40 price tag, most of games on handheld consoles does not. Especially thinking about all these sport game rehash as well, like virtua tennis 4 or even everybody's golf 39. Same goes for wipeout...
I doubt we will ever see the full game on the Vita. Yoshi-P did mention something along the lines of being able to raise your chocobo on the Vita in an interview with Eorzeapedia though. What I could see is streaming XIV to a tablet using OnLive or something similar.
No, that's Remote Play - and not many PS3 games are compatible with it; it has to be manually enabled on a per-game basis (although it seems to be universally compatible if the game's being emulated from an earlier system like the original Playstation).
Noir is talking about Cross Play - same game published on both consoles, accessing the same save data via cloud storage, or people with the game on the PS3 being able to play with people who have the game on the PS Vita, ala Wipeout 2048 <> Wipeout HD/Fury. There's a Metal Gear game planned that'll allow cross-play single player by stashing its saves on SEN and being published for both Vita and PS3.
Well of course not. Despite 'fact the Vita's specs average out about similar to the PS3 when you factor in the RAM, it's processing power is lower and comes from a totally different architecture. Code written for the PS3's cell processor is basically incompatible with the standardised stuff in the PS Vita, even setting aside the lower maximum screen resolution.
Frankly, if they go with a port rather than something platform-specific, they'd probably have an easier time porting from the PC.
Yup. That's what I meant. Remote play isn't good. I meant to play both consoles the same game, using some kind of cloud save system. Maybe That will be a reason for me to actually pay a play station plus account.
Colino, just posting to say that your sig is epic
FYI a dual core cortex A9 has about the same performance of an Intel Atom N450. Since the vita has a Quad A9 it should be at the same level of a dual core atom. Have fun gaming on it just hope they dont make the engine so low spec it hurts us pc gamers.
EDIT: for those that say Vita is at the same level of PS3 graphics

The one for vita looks better. But I don't think ridge racer is a good example. I mean, it's a launch title and launch titles, usually aren't given the time to get polished. When we get second version of Games on vita from renowned studios like square and naughty dog (not bend studios), we will see what it will capable of. I'm optimistic.
Don't compare ARM to x86... that's just fail. And don't compare new games of a new system to new games of a super old system. The VITA version is probably a bad port.
Btw did you even look at that video you posted? The games look different but the quality is the same.
Alot of naysayers in this thread don't believe the power of the VITA!
You guys have not seen the advancements in tech in the last 5 years?
There is not reason a port can not be made within 1-2 years for the vita. The only complication I could see would be the social features of FFXIV... obviously there is no keyboard on a VITA. But creative minds can think up anything.
Don't doubt! If they wanted to make it they could!
Other games can run at 60 FPS, as I said, a lot of companies choose not to because they can still make good games that run at under 60FPS and no one complains but people who look for something to complain about.
PSP is quite older technology versus the VIta. Just compare the processing power alone (the main hardware utilized for remote play.)
Why on earth would they release FF XI on Vita? That is not going to happen, you should not believe everything you read on the net. FF XIV isn't going to happen either, Vita isn't powerful enough for that.
Why do people keep thinking the Vita is more powerful than the PS3? Look at any Vita game. The graphic quality is smoke and mirror. The polygon count is indeed higher than the PS2 however the quality is no where near PS3. The way they make it look half way decent is by having a lighting system to try and fool you (Blooms and such). There is no possibility in hell that the vita could ever run a direct port from PS3, therefor it isn't going to be possible to run FFXIV on the Vita. Heat dissipation plays a big part in why the Vita can not achieve better graphics. Yes, the die on the gpu is smaller and more advanced (as in newer technology, but not more powerful) but there isn't a practical way of losing the heat generated at the level needed to be as powerful short of adding a fan system which would make it fat and defeat the purpose of it being portable.
The one for vita looks better? just look at the detail of textures and road polygons even the colors look shitty. PS3 is alot more powerful then vita and i even consider the ps3 weak to handle ff14. Remember the issues FF11 had cause of PS2 well its gona be worse if they ever port it to the vita.
Technology evolution is rather quick these days but comparing something that uses as little power as the psp vita does with the ps3 is stupid even if it is 5 years newer technology it would be impossible to have the same ammount of raw power. The vita is basicly an Ipad or a tegra with a smaller screen. Try it yourself, it looks good for a handheld but nothing like a ps3.
Most ppl look at vita specs for example the ram 512mb on the vita vs 256mb on the ps3 and think the vita is more capable then the ps3 just because of that. It not as simple as that. The PS3 uses XDR and comparing it to DDR while DDR can transfer 2 data per clock cycle XDR can transfer up to 8 making it 4 times faster if both are running at same speed. XDR uses alot of power something that cant be used on a handheld.
That video was good to see but the game example was bad, things move around too much so your only comparing the cars. So if you don't know what to look for people will see the wrong thing.
But i mean come on, People don't understand (Oh it has more memory! That must mean it better!) Wrong, its all the components together that determines how good something is. It could have a quad core CPU however the clock rate could be abysmal, the cache levels could be low. The GPU could be new technology but again the clock rate could be a lot lower, the processing core amount could be really small, etc. etc. etc.
Yeah i agree the video example wasnt the best. But honestly look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd8SfiQ5Gqc
The polygon count is so low the textures look like crap only way you can play this is on a tiny screen imagine this on your 42" screen it would make you eye bleed. Imo ppl that say vita = ps3 graphics have something wrong with their eyes.
Wii U. FTW.
@ Zorlin Agree'd
@ Jericho >_>: lol...
I bet the people moaning about how bad the Vita is don't even own one and that's why THEY MAD xD
Yeah cause 250bucks is totaly out of reach for most ppl. Shit wish i had that massive ammount of cash /cry unstead ill just make up stuff to make the vita look bad cause i cant have it. Grow up, i didnt say the vita is bad i said the vita doesnt have ps3 power but its good you think it does, enjoy it. I never been a fan of handhelds or touchscreen myself im more of a pc gamer. If they can make a port of ff14 for the vita w/o hurting pc experience good i hope they do it. But they should of have learn with ff11 and ps2 limitations thats an hard task
"Just as powerful" doesn't mean "more powerful than"..also graphics don't mean a thing if the game itself sucks, by the way.
...It was stated on the FFXI forums. (You know, the forums SE run?) It started as an internet rumor which they then confirmed there was talks/ideas about it being on the PS Vita.
Unbelievable news 'specially for you: You can make one game for two platforms with different graphics but exactly the same gameplay. Don't tell others to grow up 'cause that's just sad. Stop comparing two systems you know nothing about and let the game developers worry about what's possible and what's not. You probably never even saw a PS Vita since until now you only picked the worst looking games for that platform.
I would not mind seeing a crafting app on the PS vita tho.. craft at work ftwin!
Agreed. Because when I hear people saying that it's inferior to the ps3, I can clearly see that they didn't played it or had them in their hands. I remember when uncharted 1 came out in 2006-2007, the uncharted for vita doesn't stay behind that one. I can't wait tO see after one year the kind Of games it would be able to handle given time. Plus I can't wait tO see square's final fantasy entry for the vita.
remember it takes more power to run a game @1920x1080 than it does at 960 x 544, plus a smaller screen size means smaller textures translates to even more overhead reduction. because the Vita screen is oled the frame-rate can be locked to 24 and still look smooth.
the vita can probably run this game better than Most of your low/mid range laptops and that alone would sell.
To get into specifics, the PS Vita actually features double the amount of RAM when compared to the PS3. The Vita has 512 MB of RAM and 128 MB of video RAM, as opposed to the PS3’s 256 MB RAM and 256 MB V-RAM.
Does anyone have a vita and can explain to me how the apps for it work ? This is not like I can go on the android market and get all the same apps I have on my phone right ? These are all apps that get put in the playstation store and only those I can get right ?
I guess my question is, is there any user created apps and is there a chance that it will eventually gain the same types of apps that my phone can do ?
Number one reason why FFXI/FFXIV is not presently being ported to the PS Vita: Battery Life...
From what I could see, the apps are from Sony only. But I think they will be added via play station store by devs. I didn't fiddle too much with the ps store from vita, but it has lots of psp games to download. Plus minis, shared ps3/vita games. Apps like Facebook , twitter and Netflix were added via the last software update. The OS works basically like the iPhone, to move and customize the screen apps at your taste.
Any publisher (small or big) can put their software on the playstation network if Sony thinks they are worthy. The devkit is probably pretty expensive though. For PSP it was around $1500 I think.
And a battery life of 2-3h is still more than 99% of the gaming laptops out there got :P
