Except the FFXIV branch doesn't seem to get much attention from the company at large except to take the money the game makes and seemingly send it elsewhere.

While I agree they should be forthright about these changes coming and I would hope from understanding from us the players I'm not holding my breath. By keeping expectations low I can be pleasantly surprised.

Not writing a huge post about this myself. I'm just going to say this:

Square has no interest in innovating, or really doing much else but the bare minimum to profit. We've all been had because of our passion, and we let our passion blind us into supporting those who have no interest in, or care for us.

This is basically MMO Stockholm Syndrome.

This is what has always blown my mind with FFXIV. It's no secret the game makes SE money and it's probably what saved them from financial ruin years ago. But I can't understand why the higher ups at SE won't invest more into the game.

3 words.... Black Desert Online. That's what a character creation should be able to do. If I wasn't scared that id empty my bank account it's where I would be now. I've been playing FF games for 20 years and they are still my favourite and always will be but 14 is getting boring. Much preferred XI. Remake XI with BDO character creation and detail and the option of XIV instance dungeon as well as normal XI exp parties (because lfp for 10 hours+ in Jeuno as DRG is no fun) and it's the best of all worlds. I would unsub for awhile if I didn't lose my house. That's another thing that's pissed me off lol......

I like the game though SE is basically destroying the market board.
Things that are worth money are re-issued into the system in new dungeons and more ways to get that item very easy causing the market board to crash.

I am losing more money than gaining by teleporting places to farm due to the 999 teleporting prices and when stuff gets undercut which I know I have zero power against which doesn't matter cause SE murdered the market board i am bleeding gil.
I understand the guild teleport price cut and notes you get from flame barracks but not everyone has the power to use that stuff or even have done it.

That is actually whats killing it for me, soon I won't have any reason to farm up anything and go play something else.

What this game needs is a bigger development team, large enough to where the current team can adhere to the 3 months schedule while the remainder fixes system issues, works on QoL, server infrastructure and figuring out their spaghetti code to add things with more relative ease and adjust the inner workings of the game beyond what they can currently do with their 90-120 day cycle. They need more developers, otherwise this game will never go beyond what's worked int he past because they can't deviate for risk of losing out on dev time for actual content.

I quite agree. More help means better quality stuff for the game! Besides, with more people on board, we can get new ideas on the drawing board too. :D

Considering how players reacted to waiting 5 months instead of 3ish for patch 3.1 (which was itself a fairly lackluster patch in certain areas that followed the whole 2 dungeons only in expert debacle), I'm almost certain this is a factor.

Outside of farming old content for transmog/mounts, that's actually about it for side activities...

And brawlers guild requires getting an invite that is particularly rare (sources I'm finding put it at or below a 1% drop rate from various mobs/treasure caches), and once you do get it, you often have to sit around and wait in line to be the next challenger for your next solo fight. It's fun...if you ever actually get to do it.

As for their pet battles, different strokes for different folks. I don't find LoV to be my cup of tea, but I find WoW's version even more lackluster.

They do have their Darkmoon Faire, to which our Golden Saucer is comparable...but it's only around for a week out of the month, and it's ridiculously grindy to get just about any reward, instead of just a select few "special" ones.

Side activities is just not something Blizzard does particularly well. Heh, they even prevent players from using specific holiday items/costumes if it's not during that holiday time. There's a reason "Fun detected, must nerf it" and other similar sayings is a bit of a meme over there.

Unfortunately, people don't have this image of Japan... but as someone who lives here, I can tell you that sadly this is not a country that enjoys progression and change. The culture here is to do things as they have always been done; it's not very well received if you try to speak up and present another more efficient way to do something. Even if it is undoubtedly superior, others will tend to scoff at you and ignore your suggestions. They suffer very much from "this is how it's always been done, so this is how we will do it".

And with FFXIV already having been a flop once, I can definitely see how they would be hesitant to try to switch it up drastically. However, if they want XIV to remain relevant, they can't be scared to overhaul things and completely rework the system. It won't be easy, but in order to keep the game alive it's something they need to do. Unless they're happy with it being as viable as XI has become, of course. If their revenue on XI is "enough" then yeah. Sure. Whatever. Let it burn. lol.

If they DO want to stay more relevant though, they need to hire a new team for this so they can keep pumping out "fresh" content as they usually do (lol, Eureka...fresh content...hm..), just to keep the player base subscribed at the same time. But they need to have something else in the works behind the scenes and they should tease it to us so we know it's coming. The game should be making more than enough money. I've bought so much stuff off the mogstation, including $18 outfits FOR FRIENDS too! I've bought every expansion as it came out. I preordered the collectors edition of ARR for BOTH PC and PS3. I have extra retainers that I pay monthly for. Many people have the max amount, easily DOUBLING THEIR SUBSCRIPTION FEE. Come on. I expect more for a dedicated fan base. We have a freaking cash shop for a pay to play game. That's ridiculous. So make it worth my money, please.

It isn't just Japan that suffers from this. I've seen a whole lot of stupid practices continue to be done on the "it's always been this way, I had to deal with it, so do you" basis, and I've never set foot in Japan.

Now that I think about any direction would probably a good one for developers to take, feels like we’ve gone nowhere the past few years and we’re in the same place with different skins.

Aren’t new subscriptions still heavily outweighing current subscriptions? The developers aren’t likely to ever change the formula to ‘shake things up’ while this exists, because current subs don’t really matter if they can be replaced by two more subs by the time they stop paying

I'm curious.

Which MMOs overhauled and completely reworked their system, AND that rework was a real success?

I can think of arguably two - Guild Wars, which took 5 years of development time and had to be released as a sequel to happen with GW2, and this game (which also took a couple years of development time to do).

Every other attempt that I happen to know about to make major reworks and overhauls has either not helped or actively hurt the game, or isn't an actual overhaul/rework but rather a fresh coat of paint on the same old thing with the occasional new feature (Blizzard does this, but is also really guilty of dropping said feature after just one expansion...whiplash development like that isn't great for a game either).

It absolutely blows my mind. I guess it's why I hate the mog shop a little less (although recent prices are really starting to try me). You have an obvious source of income with fans willing to take hate to defend it and others who offer good constructive feedback daily. Yet you're going to starve it of funds and believe it will keep being successful. It's business choices like that that put the company down so low FFXIV had to save it.

But what about the Final Fantasy Franchise?

All FF games have been different in one way or another, FF XIII was fully different and now we have XV and that's a whole new game, everything is just different.
So how does that work with we will never change anything and keep cloning FF 1?

The issue here is just that they do not want to spend much money on it. They already cashmilk so much right now so why should they spend money/resources and change everything.

If we want change we need to make that clear with our wallets.

And yes, I'm a fault here too because I'm still subscribed and still actively play this game even though I would also like to see change.
But at least I don't spend €1K on phantasia pots every month like almost everybody in that RP community do.

@Fhaerron: Final Fantasy can and will change across the series because it HAS to. They can't repackage the same game a million times and expect it to still sell and of course they are willing to try new things in some regards. But that doesn't mean that the general culture here isn't to for the most part stick to the tried and true. Keep in mind, different people work on different games so there is bound to be shifts between each game. However, when you look at one stand alone title - especially an mmo - they are going to be reluctant to change it while the same team is around. And they're also going to be reluctant to change the team unless things are not going very well. To be honest, I'm shocked that they're even redoing ff7 and changing it up. But it seems like it will be more similar to ff15.

I can assure you though, this is definitely the cultural vibe you get working in Japan. I've gotten it here as a worker. My Japanese boyfriend also complains about it. It's unfortunate but that's how it is. There is change within great reason but the basic foundations often won't change.

But yeah, I would also agree that they are just being greedy and don't want to put any money back into improving the game. But the problem is, yes...... speaking with our wallets CAN certainly be a very loud wake up call. But they could just as easily simply pull the plug and still dig their heels in on this. Who knows which direction they'll take. But I'm guessing they'll probably just let it die; it failed once .. if it starts to fail again, I have doubts that they would try to bring it back again by dumping more resources into it. But I'd love if they proved me wrong.

When you start FF XV first screen you get is 'A final fantasy for old and new'. So that in mind the FF VII remake, old players will most likely buy it again and they took the 'and new' route to attract new people that don't like the traditional wait your turn battle.
That's basically the only explanation I can think off. Or maybe they are just tired of turn based. Square Enix isn't just about Japan any more, they have holding on key locations all over the globe so there's much influence from other countries too.

And since you actually seem to be able to hold a decent discussion with unlike most other people on this forum. What do you think of a new FF MMO after this? Maybe that's a better solution then trying to untangle the spaghetti code in XIV.

Why would the basic stuff need to change? Many people apparently enjoy the current game. Changing things around have a greater chance of driving people away than to attract new players.

That being said, they do add new types of content every now and then - with mixed reception. Examples include: Diadem, Palace of the Dead, Treasure hunts, Eureka.

Out of all of those, people tolerate Treasure Hunts and to a lesser extent, PotD/Deep Dungeons.
They are new, yes, the problem is it actually isn't. It's still the same trash mob-killing you always see but in a new coat of paint. It's not innovative nor interesting and people are already tired of that.

What do they change? Cause everything at a basic level is go here and kill a thing. I don't think you can blame Eureka for doing that when it has the biggest change in the whole game. Deleveling. You don't have to like it.. BUT it IS a change.. a change that has NEVER been in XIV. Other than flat out changing roatations or taking them away OR literally changing what you do to mobs - like NOT killing them and talking to them or whatever- no change to this game will make people feel like it's new cause at the end of the day. you're still going to be go here kill/find/click/dig a thing. It's always going to boil down to that.

Well, for one they can add more than just killing mobs with little mechanics to spawn NMs in Eureka. So far that's the only thing you can do there to progress and it's boring.

Also I wouldn't call deleveling a huge change, but it adds a sense of cautiousness while being there I guess.

This here may be FFXIV's biggest failure. The utter lack of communication with the playerbase only creates resentment. Look no further than Eureka. Had they been more upfront with potential difficulties or outright acknowledged they intend to add more; they simply couldn't do everything all at once. I suspect people would have been far more forgiving. Why? We can hang our proverbial hats on "we're working on many of the things you're asking for." When they say nothing, people tend to assume their feedback isn't being received. Granted, XIV has a poor habit of asking for feedback only to ignore it. Ask the PvP crowd.

My prediction?

• New MSQ
• New EX Primal (will be easier than Shinryu)
• Rabanastre v2.0 (Hopefully closer to Weeping City)
• Ultimate
• Updates to the Glamour Dresser (Items can be removed; plates increased by five)
• PotD v2 (in 4.35)

I fully anticipate they will hope Rabanastre and the new Primal carry people's interest alongside Eureka until PotD v2 comes around. Admittedly, despite progging Ultimate, I do sometimes wonder if it's truly worth the endeavour. So few people can or even want to prog it. I feel a second primal or raid boss would be better for the community even if I'd miss the challenge.

Gonna say what I said in another thread.

Square is a traditional company, motivated only by profit.

The reason why Eureka took so long is because Eureka itself is already finished. LIKE ALL OF IT. This is why Square remains dead silent.In this scenario, redoing Eureka or making large changes to its features will cost, a lot. Better to just leave it be. It's not like the player count / profit will drop by any large margin, right?

By the way, all of us that disliked ARR since the start warned you about this.

People often claim they want new, innovative stuff - not only here but in general. When they get it, they usually don't like the results.
Should the developers add something really new and different to FFXIV, then players will complain that this new thing does not feel like FFXIV.

Eureka could be improved upon by adding things that already exist in the game like the Hamlet defense (which I've never played so can't comment either way).

Right now it's just a mindless mob grind. So it wouldn't take much development time to port things over. I'm assuming it's not as easy as just copying and pasting, but since they're reusing assets anyway in-game, might as well make it funner.

Some of the things they could add:

- Client-side treasure chest spawns. Make it fun and rewarding to explore. Things you could put in the chest: Older minions or items (like from Aquapolis), crystals or clusters, rare crafting materials, etc.

- Support crates: It would be nice to find things that temporarily boost your attack or magic, or sneak ability. Different weird potables and potions that give you a little boost - good only in Eureka of course.

- The original hamlet defense of the island - give crafters/gatherers X hours in-game to make the mats needed to defend the place from monsters. Then X hours to actually battle and hold them off. I never played 1.0 but man that sounds like fun.

What about you too go check my performance ? Go check yourself how much what I'm saying currently leads to mediocrity. I'm not among the best player arround, but I'm pretty sure I'm "pulling my weight" and willing got improve myself as much as your random raid player. You'll need much stronger argument to back up your claim than vague assumption if you wanna go that way.

Also, as I said in a earlier post, the difference between your WoW experience and your current experience of FF XIV is not in the community (much less the raid community, that is composed of a lot of WoW players), it's the because of tools outside of the game. Texte guides, reddit, You Tube guides. All of those things makes communication inside the game pointless. Wich in turn change advice between player with "fail = kick" parties or "l2p git gud scrubs". This isn't helping anyone and certainly not raising the player base skill level as a whole.
More than "cuddling the bad players", the lack of communication between player is what causing all everyone is talking about. All that lyth arround "those bad player" is some basic down playing the other to make yourself bigger. That's why every single one came to me with the basic though that I was some thin-skinned filthy casul they would obviously over perform. And they were wrong about it.

That's where you're making mistake with your boss/employee analogy : there's no hierarchy between player unless a fixed group decide there is. And in the possibility there were one, you wouldn't be my boss, and neither would be that guy I told to go back playinf in WoW if that's what i wanted that much.
So what about drinking your own medecine and taking this as an advice from somehow good performing mid-core raider : cooperation beats competition in a MMO. Being the best of the worst is the exact definition of mediocrity, while making your team mistake as your own is what makes trully better players in cooperation based game.

I really can't understand why the game is in this situation right now.
They saved FFXIV from the ashes, remaking the game, releasing A Realm Reborn and it was great.

But now, it's like the game's fate is to die like the vanilla version of 2010/2011. Except that their won't be any "A Realm Reborn Again" this time.
It's sad. How can they do that ? How can they have spend so many hours and energy to save Eorzea and it's like they do nothing to prevent it from slowly dying again... I don't get it.

And meanwhile, they are porting the game on Switch and XBox...

As many other people, I thing ARR is the current problem. More specifically, the short amount of time and the fact they had to work an already pretty broken game. It's already a feat that ARR was something playable. But now it's hard to know how much new thing can get added to it, and what you need to do to make them work. Almost everyone saw Eureka as 17 month developement long plain content but you can also see it as "that's how long making something as Eureka in FF XIV takes". Because we're talking about a game where you can't both teleport and sit at the same. Where every management to be made in both an overly simple and roundabout way at the same time, because how how much weird restrictions there is too it.

We can't rule out the possibility that we're playing an even more sophisticated version of 1.x patches meant to wait yet another more complete game, but that look like a vicious process no one sane would try to pull off. Contrary that what I've read a lot those, I think they actually base their new release on popular demand (with the most recurrent being "more content" and "new things to do") without regards on how well it could get into the game.

But getting the game to run on Switch is the good idea no matter what. Everything on Switch sells like freshly baked cookies, it's getting ridiculous.

As a life long SE fan, through the good and bad, I am going to say that I love this game and will continue to play it (even if it means less frequently) if they keep the same cycle going.

HOWEVER....

Certain things to add to the game that would mix it up a bit and breathe life into it (these are not necessarily innovations, but things I believe would improve the game drastically).

1 . First and foremost, the gear needs to be drastically improved/overhauled. I dont think this really needs to be explained. Its the single biggest problem with the game and it effects almost all aspects of the game.

2 . Raids/Trials need more diversity. Currently in HW we have 4 encounters labeled as trials: Lakshmi, Susano, Shinryu, and Byakko. You go in, fight a boss, and your done. We also have 4 "Raids". You go in, fight a boss, and your done. They are the same exact thing, just different bosses. Additionally, there are 2 versions to each (EX and Savage [isnt that the same thing, too?] as opposed to their normal incarnations). I propose that you either stop branding the raids as raids and just move them over to trials OR give us an actual raid (you know, trash pulls that will completely own you if your not up to snuff, effects within the instance that interact with the player, perhaps mechanics that make the party split up etc etc).

3 . Dungeons need to be harder. While I fully support the Duty Finder/Roulette approach, when you consider that this is all thats available for 4 man parties, it simply isn't enough because they are not challenging. As a PLD I can just Flash, Cooldown, and RoH combo the whole time if I want to. Thats what it used to be at level 50 (26 if you want to be technical) and the sad thing is, it still works (albeit not as effectively) at level 70. If they insist on keeping 4 man duty roulettes a thing, thats fine. A different option needs to be there for those that want a challenge they can just pick up and do thats not savage raids/primals, and I think one that would freshen up the pace of the game is in my next point...

4 . Open world dungeons/danger need to be a thing. Make it so that I can queue up for duty roulette if I want to have a casual/easy experience. But let me get my FC together and go on an adventure to some of the truly interesting places that exist in the game world. I remember when I looked at the Dusk Vigil in Coerthas Wester Highlands for the first time... it looked ominous, foreboding, scary, dark... evil. I queued in and it was a snoozefest. Let me go into a non instanced version of that thats harder and non linear. You dont have to give me insane gear for an open world level 51 dungeon... but maybe theres a tie in to treasure maps. maybe theres treasure hold filled with just gil. Maybe theres an altar inside there where I can take blue unconvertible there and convert it into specialized materia. Give me something to do with people on a daily basis that doesnt involve sitting in my house and queuing. Let me take my gathering friend deep into scary places so he can gather rare materials. Something besides queue and leave.

5 . I find alliance raids to be fine. Mid level content that serves its purpose.

No... I love the game as-is. I would like to see more QoL improvements and new content, but I don't want a drastic change. There's a reason why I quit WoW completely after being loyal to that game 10 years. It changed too much from the game I loved originally. It's a shell of its former self imo. I don't want that to happen to XIV as well.......

Game is more popular than ever hahaha. These guys. Absolutely no clue. everyone thinks the game is failing cause they are bored but has made so much money and still is. No one has a clue.

The amount of people on the formus complaining about the game compared to the amount of people that are playing and enjoying it is very small I would wager. Almost everyone that I play with on a consistent basis fully enjoys the game with little to no complaints except QoL stuff. But that doesnt change the fact that simple tried and true things that arent in the game now would be welcome additions to the present game.

100% agreed. I am referring to the people that say the game is dead and unsuccessful. Everything needs improvements, always. People hating them game thinking no one is enjoying it couldnt be more wrong, however.

They should create content with better objectives and fail conditions that is not just full party wipe.

Take Eureka, instead of what we have now they could've reduced the number of participants down to an alliance. Reduced the timer to 30 min. Make the XP chain longer than 30. Instead of the NM auto spawning have an item drop at a certain point in the chain so that you can gather the whole alliance before you fight it. Make the kill chains more meaningful, at chain 50 you drop a boss pop item at chain 100 it drops a different version of it that triples the XP/loot.

Make certain NMs extend the timer +X mins, make other NMs drop items/crystals, make an NM drop an item that changes day to night or vice versa, make an NM that force changes the weather.

Instead of the zerg train we have now, make us actually coordinate the parties depending on the group objective. We can split the alliance into 3 parties and each one goes to farm an extension NM.

Do you keep groups of 8 together so they can do 100 chains where there's only 30 secs between each kill or do you split the groups into light parties of 4 and do twice as many 50 chains so you can kill 6 different NMs?

Do we have to kill the weather NM this run so we can spawn another boss later on or do we skip that so we have more time in the zone?

Ultimately you still kill things but what you kill, why you kill it and how many you kill can be different and how you do it in what amount of time changes the rewards from mediocre to very lucrative.

exactly. perfect example is all the doom and gloom about Eureka. However, 90% of people on my data center that are playing it are FULLY enjoying it AND helping eachother along. It is clearly incomplete, but hey, room for improvement.

And yet whenever I went in people were complaining and said they were only doing it to not get behind before the place died out. But hey anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. :/

Also, 17 months of developing a piece of content shouldn't result in something this incomplete and bare bones.

I agree, I had a negative first impression of Eureka at first, and I think they still need to work on the viability of solo play, but I've been enjoying my time there. Since I grouped with some friends it hasn't felt like a grind.

My biggest concern is that the content is very reliant on having a group, and investing a lot of time into grinding crystals. It's fine for now, but new players months or years down the track will struggle to upgrade their AF3 gear if most of the population has already done it and has no need to go back to Eureka.

The mentality of letting old content die is a bad one. They need to take advantage of the "lv sync" option for content like Extreme Trials.

They should consider the idea of adding new loot to old content that helps in new content, like say unique accessory drops in Diadem that help in Eureka. New loot in old PoTD that helps in new PoTD. rare "primal armor" drop that can only be obtained if you do it level synced.

A little nugget of a reward to entice people to try the challenge and keep old content alive.

I agree with your first statement, its anecdotal, but its been that way each time for me.

And your second statement is what scares me. Its clearly incomplete. SE has a pattern of doing this that cant be denied. FFXIV 1.0 = Incomplete, FFXV was incomplete at release also. Eureka CLEARLY is incomplete. Its unacceptable.
