Butler/Maid outfits finally on the Mogstation! Go nuts guys!

I'll accept $18 clothing if SE uses that to make decent content. I am not going to accept it if all they do is repeat a formula. I think though that promos should stay promos, but rotate items; there's zero reason why we can't have a Daddy of Light DVD or blu-ray, and have the code appear in the wrapped package. Or the manga we see on Crunchyroll; have viz or del rey release it, code in each volume. Or affordable figurines...you can make decent action figures for USA $20, start partnering with hasbro or someone.

Don't milk the cash cow too hard, SE, or it might wander off.

All it takes is a few thousand people spending $200 a year, and they are golden. Some people spend absurd sums. Games have become fixated on milking high-income players; even this game is starting to get that way with $150 statues and emotes, and if you wanted to buy 5 outfits, its $90. I kind of worry we are going to see another big video game crash soon.

Square at least make it account wide at that price point, especially when it doesn't come with the mount/masks/etc. The promo was account wide, so these shouldn't be an issue adding them as account wide.

Edit: Wait that's $18 per set, you don't get both?!

What is there to defend? If people want to spend their money, it's a free country. Why does anyone elses opinion matter? Plenty of people would declare your (and my) spending of money on a sub to the game at all to be a colossal waste, as well.

The promo wasn't impossible to do outside of the areas of it happening. My friends who where in countries without any promos at all were able to get ahold of the UK magazines for example. People stated they wanted the stuff on mog station, and here it is. If they held some sort of idea that square would make them super cheap, or affordable then I'd like to ask them what world they live in since mog station prices are pretty standard.

Players are never happy. Not like not having these pieces of vanity gear will cause you to implode.

A shit cheaply made piece of plastic tat action figure isn't anywhere in the same league as a properly sculpted, and moulded PVC figurine.

Am I missing something over the pricing rage or what? Literally every item released of late has been $18 - Carbuncle attire, Far Eastern attire, Matriarch/Patriarch attire, Fugu attire, Noble/Gentleman/Beauty's attire... The pricing for this shouldn't be new or surprising in any way.

The only thing that was released somewhat recently that was cheaper was Edda's garb and I suspect that's because 1.) there's no male equivalent, and 2.) it comes with an entirely separate pack of weapon skins you can buy for another $7.

The original promotions for these were around spending $20 total, getting an additional product for that money and getting codes for both outfits being sold here, a mount, two masks and some other minor in-game items like aetheryte tickets. All of that being account wide. There were a number of issues with the EU promotions, so when they finally release it on the mogstation so people can just purchase it, it's overpriced, piecemealed and missing items.

While these items are slightly different, giving +5 to a stat and +30% exp under level 30, my personal opinion is that it's not worth the price point.

I already have the items via the promotion years ago.

These are now the only $18 sets that don't have their dumb set bonus crap. And are locked to a single character unless you feel like spending even more.

Even Edda wasn't this much and they could have easily charged $18.

And in NA people could just preorder stuff, get their codes and delete the preorder thus paying no single dollar.. Also even for those that had to pay more (which is probably due to shipping costs) they at least got a real product for the price and the items on top of that. And lets not forget that we got two outfits, masks, a mount and some other smaller stuff for that price...which was also for the whole account and not single character like those are.

Its not like they were able to give everyone around the world the fair chance to get them in the past. Lots of EU countries and other countries around the world never even got the chance at all..and now they have to pay even more if they want that and cant even have every item..

It is ridiculous on how people really believed that the buttler and maid outfit was going to be sold as the promotion. For a reason it was a promotion. Don't forget this company is a business. They will never make something that will be not benefitial to them.

If anyone bring up the "multiple" times SE did something for the consumers, they don't see the big picture. It is always better to loss a low amount of profit than lossing a great amount of consumers. I don't think there will be any changes to the price since we have previous examples of previous complains but was not equal to the amount of people than bought "expensive" items.

I don't see how charging for these outfits a symbolic amount akin to the moogle suit or the old scion outfits would be an economic loss. They already essentially gave it away. I am fully aware that the amount of people who bought it because they can and don't care likely exceed the people who are complaining about the price tag.

The issue is that they will keep raising prices or limiting things to see how much they can milk it.

Please tell me how selling them in a bundle, account wide with every item included for the same price that most people had to pay for the promotion gives them a bad deal? We are talking about digital items that do not cost anything to reproduce them..so every single bundle they would have sold would have only increased their income..

I am one of the people that already got it through one promotion and I dont see how I or others would go away from FF14 if they are selling it for the same price with the same items and conditions on the mog station..especially since we did get real things out of that while those that buy it on the mog station will only get digital goods..sorry but your arguments dont make any sense too me..heck I dare to say that overpricing such things might lose them more customers than charging the same price that others had to pay.

Solution: SE should stop to hear to demanders and keep it promotion exclusive, and put more energy in better EU promotions. One Amazon promotion in any EU country would be a good start.

Let me preface the rest of my post with I've always hated the cash shop. I don't think it belongs in a subscription game, but hey, evidently times change and it's here to stay.

So with that said, I'm not really too bothered with how they've added this. They ran their promotion (I understand NA got the far better deal here), and those who picked it up got a rather nice deal. Promotions only go on for so long, but at least they are giving avenue to purchase the items in case you missed the original deal.

Now, with THAT said - I do think SE is insanely heavy-handed with the pricing in their cash shop. And this isn't just about this particular outfit. I understand a business is out to make money, , but there should be a balance so you don't just look like a greedy mofo. :p

It nice of them that this items are not exclusive anymore and people who missed promotion can get it but I feel little betrayed. To get this set I bought a stupid magazine from UK and it cost me more than I could've spend on Mog station. But at least it's account wide for me as a owner of promotion code.

I like both outfits, they look nice. Wish us girls could wear the butler suit and vice versa for the guys and the maid outfit. o:

ON THE BELIEF THE ITEMS WERE NOT DYABLE
I too, actually believed it possible the items would not be dyeable. Why? Because the Mog Station page did not offer a sample picture showing the items dyed. These are not actually the same items as came out in the promotion. These Mog Station items have stats and an EXP boost. It was possible that they were not dyeable along with this change. I went around asking my friends til I found someone that said that it was dyeable exactly like the original set til I set such fears to rest. I would have bought the items if they at least had a different dyeability (such as making the apron dyeable and leaving the dress black, or just dyeing the whole item.) But they did not. Blame SE's product page for deceiving people about the dyeability though.

ON EXCLUSIVITY AND PRICING
I have no issue that the item is available again now. I had to pay a lot on American Amazon here in Canada to get my products shipped (the promo was not available on Canadian Amazon) but i got my Niece Pokemon Moon and I got myself Kingdom Hearts on PS4 for the 2 Amazon promotions. i have account wide item sets from these promos and people that missed out can now get the items on mog station. I had the exclusivity to have it first, and the item name remains an exclusive to the promo. I don't feel slighted for this. It's like when people pay exhorbitant gil on Market Board for the new glamor items first when they aren't able to make the item themselves. And then months later the same item goes for like 10% of the initial buzz price then everyone can wear it.

The original item set was also for a - you said the word literally in your post - promotion, likely designed to get exposure for FFXIV and $$$ for other companies. Of course everyone is allowed to say that it's "not worth their price point" and whatnot; that's their right as a consumer. To go around using phrases like "ripoff", "greedy company" etc completely disregards the fact that these original items were made attractive specifically SO you would spend money at other establishments in order to get them. Now that those incentives are no longer needed, the pricing is normalized to that of other Mogstation costume offerings. Feel free to buy or don't buy, but it's disingenuous to pretend like people are being "ripped off" when promotions are all about offering the better deal for a limited time. (Shoddy EU handling of promotion notwithstanding ofc)

This is my issue with what they did.

We got both outfits, a mount, 2 masks and tokens for free. Fine, if you bought an item just for the promotion, then you spent $20 for the stuff, I won’t argue it.

At the very least, they needed to make it account wide. Single character and $18 is ridiculous in comparison. If they release the mount at $12 per character, at 40 characters, that will now cost $1,920 to match what we got for $20, I mean for free.

People who were excluded from the promotion by SE, don’t get in at 10% of what we paid, they get in at 10x what we paid instead.

Each piece at $18-$24 per account would have been more than enough. Just not enough for SE.

They coded these as entirely new items that look exactly the same and have the same name? Isn't that just another item our bags have to try and track?

I agree that the pricing is ridiculous, but it could be way worse. There are many MMOs that charge $40 to $50 USD for a single vanity outfit on the cash shop. Mounts can be $50. One game I forgot name of sells a pair of wings for $90, not joking. Path of Exile is one example of insane pricing, and I use to spend $80 in Maple Story for vanity that included hair style, dress, and weapon. $18 for this one outfit isn't even half the price you'd be paying for it in many other MMOs. These prices will seem much higher to you if you don't have much experience with CS pricing in other MMMOs. Yes I'm aware those are free to play, which could be why we pay a lot less for the optional CS stuff. I'm not justifying these prices, but just pointing out that you don't know how good you have it. As long as there are people with a lot of extra money to throw around, SE can and will profit. I just hope they don't continue increasing the prices.

Those mmos would never have my business in the first place. There's always someone that can do worse pricing that makes something look better in comparison, that doesn't make this pricing good on its own standing though. Honestly I'm not sure I'd have even taken up playing this game if I were looking at today's cash shop when thinking of joining.

Ah, but Mabinogi made it's money from the rebirth mechanics, not the outfits. In it, you could pay like $15 a week to start over from level 1, but with all your stats folded in. You got one free rebirth a month. The power gap between people who rebirthed every week and those that didn't was insane.

Mab also made a lot of money selling pets that slowly became useless. Pets would produce resources as well as be companions, but they'd deplete over time, both in resources and HP. Nexon knew how to gouge their players like masters.

That same company is also the company behind Maplestory. Maplestory also has Gachapon, which is random, but the outfits you can buy that are not random cost way more than the maid outfit SE is selling. Not sure why Mabinogi is cheaper. I know of the game. I just never played it. Trove is another MMO with cheaper prices where a mount is like $20, which isn't much cheaper, but average CS prices are a lot higher than what SE is charging.

EDIT: Nvm, just saw post above mine about why Mabinogi is so cheap.

I got the promotion items through pre-ordering a game I was planning on buying anyway so really it only cost me the extra money for shipping due to buying from the USA Amazon instead of the Canadian one. And I really only wanted the mount anyways. >.>
Compared to that $18 for one outfit for one character is an awful deal and feels like a rip-off.

It is on par with a lot of the outfits added to the cash shop recently but I'd argue that just reinforces how crappy SE's pricing is. It may not be as bad as some other games but that doesn't make it ok.

It was $7 a week actually, you didn't need the prem card unless you were changing your look. And yes that was a terrible system that is thankfully completely gone from the game, now you get to rebirth after 6 days, regardless, and no sooner outside of pots that are usually gotten via events. And yes the pets I did mention, although my focus was moreso on the pets that did an aoe effect than the ones that give you herbs. I once ran into a player with so many aoe pets they literally could perm stun anything that can be stunned. It's silly.

But we all know over there fashion is Mabi's real end game and for the brief moment gacha stopped happening they were rather cheap clothes.

rent inventory space
broken glam system
So these factors tries to push paying extra for more space to pay more, on top of a sub model on top of 18 dollar outfits that where given out where some counties did not have access to?

Also are those higher shop item games, do they pay on sub or f2p? Because you can't call this game better then anything, if you do not factor everything.

actually at least its not like some games that went from sub to free to play that make you have to pay for everything with real money. this is litterly only glamour, you need to stop nit picking and appreciate what we get. plus yea the glamour system needs work but its not broken. IT does work. and some people can make the mog station items work and not have to buy extra retainers just to fit it all into everything. I think you need to go play some of the free to play games and check how much you have to pay for b4 you nit pick on what SE makes us pay for. I'd rather spend 18$ for glamour and that then spend 20$ for armor, ability to get farther into ms, or game, plus other items. some games have gotten ridiculous. Mabinogi, Shinmegami tensi online, elsword, dragon nest, aura kingdom, Archage, tera, Rift, are some games i wish had subs because i refuse to pay for armor and some VIP buff/ VIP alone just to get to end game. at least FFXIV is doing better then these games combined when it comes to cash shop.
