"Because video game music is obviously mediocre and repetitive, only a nerd with no life whatsoever can like them."
There's your reason.

the so called new music is old music too it was in the alpha .dat they just took awhile to use it. there alot of unused stuff in the .dat's, just like in most game there stuff there thats never used or it takes forever to add.
Wrong.
Just like damn near everything else you say... most of these are actually newly arranged tracks, even if Nobuo wrote them, these versions of them are as new as new can be.
That aside, the theme for The Maelstrom sounds so Mizuta that even just by hearing it I know he had a hand in that. A few of the others as well but that one is just so... obvious.
Not only Mizuta, but yeah.
Most tracks released recently are definitely not done by Nobuo, neither arranges of Nobuo songs. The only exceptions are the Company Chocobo Theme (arrange surely not done by him, but the chocobo theme is obviously nobuo), Zahar'ak's theme (arrange not by nobuo, but the original song is) and Natalan's Theme (old song already in the dats since forever).
Most of Nobuo music is is very good. Plus I agree they should shift some of the music around, and add some new ones because some of the originals seem out of place.
If I remember correctly Nobuo, had only concept art work to help him develop music for the game. If he was given a chance to run through the game as it is now I'm sure he can create some amazing work.
I only really liked the old shroud (especially at night) and the la noscea music. The rest of them wasn't that memorable. I like the new music and the direction they are taking, but i hate the new la noscea music.
Actually, FFXIV music files are vorbis files with spoofed header. I saw a website showing which bytes you have to swap to restore the header and make the file playable.
all of the music is quite good and one of the game's strong points.
Like about every composer? Or do you really think they write music after the game is completly done? They have to rely on the unfinished game, always.Quote:

Um...
You see, the thing is a lot of composers usually have more to go on than just concept art, as explained already -- Especially when it comes to other forms of media. Composers usually write music during an Alpha build of a game, when there's a general "mold" of the world and events in place. Some, from experience, even do it after the game is near completion to get an even more engaging soundtrack going, especially since the sound design is also usually done by the composer.
I will say I would like it if the Town music swapped between two tracks each time you entered it (to give some variety) and for the love of the twelve I wish there were some alternate music tracks that would play on leves.
So that said, no I don't think they need to be deleted, but I do think we need some variety in terms of alternating tracks, I love the way the music shifts depending on where you walk in the open world areas.
I just watched Moneyball... Idk if anyone has seen that movie. It's great and the music is amazing. No jingles that are in your head for hours after hearing. It's more like, long drawn out symphonies/tones/instrumentals that slowly build up n go back down.
This kind of music would be terrific, in literally any zone. Skyrim does it well, but imo, Moneyball does it even better.
I believe Square is setting up Naoshi Mizuta to be there next main series composer for the FF franchise. He definitely deserves it to because the quality that guy can pump out is really good. It reminds me of Nobuo's music ten years ago. In recent years though I do believe that Nobuo has lost that edge he once had. He still does produce great tracks though.
I agree with Mizuta (and Kumi since she was co-composer/arranger) as a main series composer. Those who played XI back at this point (2004):

Remember the first time you stepped into the area that's adjacent to the opening city of Tavnazia, especially after going through the hell of promyvion?
I just don't think anyone would REALLY be upset if Mizuta just rearranged, remixed, or revised any of the current tracks. He's been putting out some quality pieces and remixed pieces that Nobuo originally written so far.
Plus, the recording quality is terrible for some of the original tracks and the volume levels are way off. This isn't the case with any of Mizuta's pieces. Only older track I can think of that is perfect in quality is Cohertas. Twilight over Thanalan could use some time in the mixing room to improve it's quality of sound, but that track is pretty great as it is. Might still be out of place though for the zone it's in, but it's a great track nevertheless.
Agreed, he's a superb composer. His work with FFXI was incredible, and he did some spin-offs and smaller games like The 4 Heroes of Light, Warriors of Light and Darkness, and Blood of Bahamut. Now he's back to the main series with a tremendous job on FFXIII-2 (check musics like "Run", "Paradigm Shift" and the Xanadu theme) and FFXIV. The truly deserves the position of a main series composer.
There are also great names like Mitsuto Suzuki (The 3rd Birthday, FFXIII-2) and Takeharu Ishimoto (Dissidia, Type-0) who can pair with Mizuta for some awesome OSTs.
Talking about Uematsu, he feels more and more like a producer nowadays, and eventually doing an OST here and there and some main themes (area where he excels a bunch of composers out there).
I suppose one good thing about the shuffling of the music team means we won't see anymore "X SONG SOUNDS LIKE IT'S FROM FF___" youtube comments. Thank god for that.
This speaks many thruths. Nobuo is amazing and whe the current tracks are criticized many go berserk with fan rage. In your fandom please open the ost credits page. (yes the one that looks like it should have apple pie inside it)
All the tracks were COMPOSED by Uematsu but all the tracks were ARRANGED by miscallenous group of unknown talentless wannabe guitarists. Nobody probably thinks there's anything wrong with the melodies but they're drowned out by too many instruments and just plain bad guitar sounds that sound like they're all midi samples.
I Love the musics of the game now !!! I mean the music changes !!!!! In a lot of MMORPG, the music is either songs you don't even remenber or spot or always the same !! Here we have great musics et they are realy diverse (leves for example). I mean : Do you remember FF 11 ? Althought, it was great, compare the goodness and the diversity of th e msuic ate the same age lol
Only Aion beats FF 14 in the music department of MMORPG i think
The really few new pieces of music are good too but the unused song are really great so good incoming !!!
FFXI beats both in my opinion and has ever since CoP (since that adds the greatest majority of the tracks that I just love), WotG is just icing on the cake.
Though I will admit the game didn't get my favorite track until WotG (I'm actually San d'Orian so I feel a bit shameful that this is my fav)

Sorry for the necro bump but..
Was checking out alot of the tracks added since patch 1.18 or so and I have to say the music is absolutely incredible. I just wish the new stuff was used MORE! Theres some tracks I have heard in -one- cutscene and haven't heard it again. Then I go on youtube to find it and its a 6 minute long stroke of genius!
The music that has been added to the game in recent times is absolutely wonderful. It's the perfect blend of new and nostalgic FF throwbacks.
If I were to pick a track to be redone, it would be the Uldah city music. That and the market ward music reminds me of being set on hold on a phone call. I can't stand it, but unfortunately since the game mostly revolves around parking yourself there for long spans I've had the entire game's music muted permanently. So sad. :(

If any song in this game needs to go it's the damn Ul'dah theme. It drives me bonkers.
I actually put together a music pack using tracks that are just sitting around in the data files plus the new tracks/npc themes.
Most of the music used in the pack is new and my LS seems to like what I did with them. The quality is much higher and the volume levels are a hell of a lot better. Some of the old tracks are nice, but they need to be enhanced or something in quality. You can tell the difference pretty quickly and it's off-putting to be in an area with a great quality recording of a track then zone and get a lesser quality track with weird volume levels. Makes you not want to listen to the music.
Anyway, the point is that people, including myself (I'm a person... kind of), respond better to the new tracks and will keep on the music when they are featured. From what I've gathered.
There are legitimate criticisms/suggestions for the game, and then there are threads like these.
Seriously, keep your grubby mitts away from the music, please.

That is all.
Honestly, though, if you really want to talk about a shift in music quality all you have to do is listen to these.
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X-2
The trend has pretty much taken hold at this point. I can't say that I'm a huge fan, but c'est la vie.
Have none of you ever played FFdissidia? the music remixes on there are great. And since this game takes soo much after FFIV (yes I know it takes after a lot of other FF's) A good deal of music AND Ideas could be taken from that game. my personal favorite would be on (dissidia012 FFIV battle-1) But I recommend you listen to a few yourself. Like The summoner battle remix. I wish most of all that music fro XIII could be on here (along with "force your way FFVIII" and "One winged angel" and also "man with the machine gun" lol and lets top it off with "FF X battle" & " Fight To the Death XII".
There are soo many more I wish I could put on this game, like Eternal wind arrange. Love that song. I can do this all day. but ultimately we can only hope that Nobuo Nuematsu Creates music for this game, thats even better than the last set. If you watched any of his interviews, you'd see that Enix asked him to do the songs in specific ways (though I am not sure they did all of them like that) and you gotta admit. the music is not ALL bad. What are some of your favorites? Mine is the one in the Gridania opening when they're running from the Treant, though I generally Prefrer the Jazz of uldah when im chilling, or the Horns of Limsa when im feeling quite atventerous. one last song "for the reunion" FFVII advent childred. peace.
I can see what you mean >.>
Lets turn it into- something positive.
FFXIII
My apologies, this is the song they played.
FFXIII
I still can't say that things have gotten much better. I'm sure the Japanese version sounded better, but this is still what we were given. I know there was some pop song in FFX, but I honestly don't know what it was.
*edit* I'd also like to say that I do enjoy the instrumentals.
