Stop rewarding tanks/healers! We all put in the same effort.

Honestly, the system doesn't just reward tanks or healers. It rewards anybody in a role that is needed. There is your answer, original poster. There are tons of dps for every healer out there, and there are still plenty of healers for every tank. That's why you almost always see group in need of tank. I've seen the group in need of a healer msg 1 time ever

Then play a tank then. Whats that? you dont want to? Thats exactly why the reward exists in the first place

I see player in need for healer regularly, and I have seen it pop for DPS on hests and trials often. It's just not as common as tanks.

Besides, this isn't about only supporting tanks. ALL players have access to tank and healer jobs. What this instead does is incentivises non-tank or healer mains to swap into that role for the high grade materia, which has the positive result of shrinking the wait times for other players. EVERYONE BENEFITS.

Seriously, you could happily spend all that shiny new materia on your actual main job for raid content, allowing your main job to benefit from this system, if you are willing to queue as a tank a couple times a week.

In answer to the topic title, I say; No, you don't.

In general answer, the adventurer in need is neither a tank, nor healer reward. It is a reward designed to incentivize players to run duty finder content in which ever role is currently in most demand. The fact that it's almost always tank, and if not then healer, reflects the relative scarcity of those roles. If you have a problem with that, play one yourself.

In spare time complete the rewarding achievements/roulettes to gain your whatever it is you need

i have played tank for a while now and the only reason i can think of are the DPS-players. mechanically there is nothing wrong with tanking, it's actually really easy and fun. but the other players, almost exclusively the DPS, ruin the whole tanking experience and make the difference between a smooth run and a run through hell.

i really have tried it, but the bonus isn't worth the hassle o.o/

so if DPS-players stop treating tanks like shit maybe more people are willing to play tanks, wich reduces the queue times for the DPS-players and increase their chance to get the role in need bonus. but yeah, this will not happen...

i think this whole thing is a self created problem by the DPS-players. and now they want being rewarded for that? i don't think so...

Speaking as someone who been gaming since the beginning of mmo's (i'm 35, the internet went public when i was 10) i've seen the evolution of online gaming.

I heal and dps (scholar 70, summoner 70, bard 70, white mage 64)

One thing about mmo's using the trinity, is that there is always tons more dps than tank and healer. The reason for this is that tank and healer have more responsibility. Yes dps have responsibility too, but if a tank or heal fails theres it's a wipe, if a dps fails it is usually just a rez from healer.

On top of that tank and heal have to learn mechanics in order to perform there stuff, and healers have to dps when healing is not needed, where dps mainly just have to attack and dodge, sometimes they r needed for mechanics but not often. In the case mechanics are needed by dps, tank or healer have to guide them through them.

Further to that in alot of groups as a tank/heal mistake can cause a wipe. They tend to get grief off other players for mistakes because we tanks and healers are not allowed to make a single mistake we have to be perfect all the time, in case of dps healer rez's then usually the tank or heal gets blamed for them dying even if it is their own fault.

As a result of this most people prefer dps as they only need to manage their own rotations, they don't get player grief, don't have to learn as much, and when needed get given the info by tank/heal (i play heal/dps and have to guide mechanics alot in dungeons that need dps following them).

This is why in most games there are more dps queing than other roles, so most games include incentives for the other roles. Now i am not saying that is the case in all dps, there are some who learn the mechanics, and do the mechanic explaining. But from my years of mmo gaming i have found that is a majority. This is why incentives are included to fill tank/heal roles and shorten dps ques. This experiance has happened to me accross many differant mmo games

To finish a story from my own experience a few days ago. I was in Dzemael Darkhold as a healer, tank did a big pull no one was standing in the purple, the eye was flying in doing mass damage, i kept them alive but drained my mana. So i stop explain the eye encounters and the standing in purple mitigate. We get past that carry on, get to the part with the aoe crystals. The tank big pulls again the dps (both ranged) and the tank are too close to the crystal standing in it's orange aoe circle. I am spamming aoe heal like crazy trying to keep them alive my mana drains, we wipe. So i stop again explain about the crystals we pull away from cluster get past. Further on again another crystal, standing in the aoe again. Ontop of that people were standing in the orange attack ares for mobs too. Nobody was new to that dungeon there was no first time message, it was like they thought, no need to dodge n follow mechanics healer can do all the work.

That run was for my roulette, why would i run a second time and risk another nightmare like that without incentives. Fact is given how often i encounter stuff like that, if it isn't for my daily roulette i won't do it again without in need bonus.

Just a thought: if they gave dps the xp bonus for running roulettes that would make dps level up faster, making people finish their dps jobs faster, giving them time to maybe queue as healers or tanks.
I'm planning to level a healer up once my current dps is done. But it takes forever to get the necessary xp. Then, when I'm at my healer/tank it'll take half the time cause of the constant bonus.
So I thought, if I got that xp boost on dps instead, this would be 70 in no time, making it possible for me to use healer/tank or whatever is in need more, which I don't do atm, cause I need the xp for my dps class.

So what you're telling me is that you don't want us to tank or heal for you. K enjoy the queue.

It's different by data center, the time you play, however the bonus (cracked cluster) only applies currently to leveling roulette. Hence the OP probably complaining since we all know, that heals and tanks are mostly the ones in "need" at nearly any time of the day/night, for that roulette. I do enjoy my clusters tho :)

I did level all three tanks to 60 in HW via duty roulettes on this character and I had a dedicated DRK tank alt on top during HW to run experts and normal raids with. From that, the only thing I can think of is tanking as such. It's boring - it requires the brainpower of a dead tuna. The only remotely exciting things about it are huge door-to-door pulls where you actually need to use your cooldowns for once and stance dancing and SE keeps nerfing both.

People often name abusive DPS players as reason but honestly? I've never met them. Not even once. I've seen TONS of people that are terrible at their job, healers, DPS and tanks alike, but verbally, my runs have been mostly quiet. Either I'm just extremely lucky, or people are causing the drama themselves somehow.

There are people who are naturally inclined to be tanks and healers, but there are also people like myself who are DPS players at heart but are still willing to tank and/or heal if it's engaging and rewarding enough. I enjoy challenging myself to properly perform the role of tank or healer and still put out decent damage.

That seems to be falling out of favor in the dev team though, which is making tanking and healing feel more like a chore to people who were open to doing it before but did not prefer it.

I would count myself as one of those, although I would argue for different reasons. I actually find tanking more engaging that DPS by a fairly large margin, but have issues with actually convincing myself to do it, out of worry I'll screw it up, and as such usually fall back to DPSing because I then fill a less critical role, and don't get so worked up about it.

Healing, on the other hand, is just a whole lotta nope for me. I panic way to easy when shit hits the fan.

Yes, but she didn't say "it's a chore to me" or "I find it to be a chore", both times she's said it has been a "it/they are chores". I don't care what other people's opinions are. You're lucky. Currently leveling Paladin through roulettes and dungeons and the level of impatience from DPS is outstanding. I've had three dungeons yesterday (out of 6) where the DPS ran in front, full sprint, attacking the first set of mobs. Granted I'm a fast player that does big trash pulls, but one instance was before the healer casted protect, and the other was when a healer afk'd. It won't deter me from leveling my Paladin, I just find it annoying. Still, free cracked clusters > annoyance any day.

Well since it is a post, from a person, expressing a thought....most people don't have to preface that with an "I" or "Me". It's clearly an opinion and not a fact. Like me saying "FFxiv is a great game." It's clearly an opinion and "I think" isn't required.

This thread is so ironic. They are doing this specifically to try to speed up your dps queue time. Honestly I still can't stop laughing about the OPs logic.

As a Tank there is an easy solution to this. Let them die. Impatient players who cause problems are not worth your time and effort. If they vote kick you, Report them right back, Nothing will happen to you. I have been playing a Tank for MANY years. You are the party leader regardless of what they want or think, you drive the party forward. Now my time being a tank in XIV personally has been nothing short of great, I can't recall the last time I ran into a verbally abusive player to be honest, It's been well over a year.

If they think you are slow, that is NOT YOUR PROBLEM, you go at the pace you are comfortable with and clear the content. Why? those DPS's will NOT go into another 30min queue while you just instant pop into another one. Don't put up with peoples BS online, It is so simple for a Tank to control everything that happens in an instance do not allow some jerk to dictate how you should play.

And lastly to the OP of the topic. No, For every 100 Players in MMO's there are like 75 DPS, 15 Heals, 10 Tanks. If you want to be rewarded for playing what the majority plays and blame it on everyone else but yourself that is YOUR problem. Tanks get Instant Queues because NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY ONE, It's not about who contributes more to the game during a play session, The game simply cannot be played without Tanks or Healers, If you have a problem with the vast minority getting rewarded because you choose to play a role that is not needed, go play an MMO where there is no trinity like Guild Wars 2.

If the tank is doing 3 dungeons for every 1 the dps is doing in the same time frame then the tank is working harder I'm not sure what you don't understand about this.

To reply to the quoted above: No they're not, they do however have a higher burden of responsibility.

If a dps doesn't play well: Stuff takes longer. If a Healer or a Tank doesn't play well stuff tends to wipe, people get salty, bad vibes happen.

It's a moot point anyway, the incentive is to help dps players get into dungeons quicker, that's your reward.

Be careful what you wish for OP – as soon as the Tanks and Healers have finished decking themselves out in VI melds (which conversely helps the dungeons runs much smoother/faster) and the bottom drops out of the market boards (which has already well under way on my server) – we'll all be back to square one. And they'll have to start finding creative ways to bribe us in.

What rewards I didn't see any when leveled my healer. When ran dungeons hardly any healer gear was in the chests. only thing noticed was faster que time. If don't like long dps que times maybe you should switch to healer or tank job. If your main is smn then level using sch for faster que time.

Exactly, and if you add a reward to DPS that nulifies Tank/Healer, then it will run back into the same issue. the whole "In Need" bonus means that those roles aren't queuing up for dungeons, their is a surplus of other roles and an incentive is added to encourage them to join.

An Incentive was always in the game but it was never really any good, some gil, GC seals, meh. Now the reward is actually decent and worth doing which is what the whole purpose of "In Need" Bonus was. To give players something that was worthwhile to queue for a Duty and play a role they might not have played otherwise for a reward.

Einstein this is the whole reason tanks and healers get "rewards". If you havent noticed there's kind of a lack of these classes, just look at the next census put out. So yeah SE is enticing more people to play the classes that ya know 1/3 the population plays. Unless of course you want even longer ques maybe 2hrs I suggest you just deal with it.

the ENTIRE reason why tanks or healers are rewarded more is to SHORTEN the DPS wait time to get more tanks and healers on board. But then again, it's worthless responding since he stated he wont even look at the comments.

The Leveling Roulette if you are the adventurer in need you will get a cracked cluster which can be turned in for a grade 6 materia. They will be adding the text to show this in the 4.05 update but it is active now.

Admittedly, amongst the bad things the op listed there is one good idea. Mounts. I think all classes should be able to get a job mount and I think it's a little disappointing that only the tanks, and I guess whm with the unicorn, get mounts.

It's simple supply and demand. In the real world, if a business needs a skill set that is in short supply, people with that skill set get more money.

In the end, the cracked cluster is just a carrot on a stick. I honestly wish they'd just make tanking... more fun and engaging, as I've already stated.

I 100% agree that some people just don't like the responsibility. Like I had a friend in TERA who played Berserker. It was originally a DPS class, but they gave it the ability to tank at level 65 to alleviate queues. However, she said she just wanted to be the person that sticks it to the man, not the man himself.

However, for me, I'll be the man if necessary. But if it's not fun then I'm putting up with crap from idiots for no reason. I suppose the cracked cluster is supposed to be my reason, but to me, that's not good enough of a reason. In the end, it's just a carrot on a stick that I don't care that much about. For some reason, I actually find healing in FFXIV more fun than tanking when I think tanking should be the most fun. Sadly, I think it would require a drastic rework of fight design and tanking as I've listed my criticisms here
