all i know is I see people everywhere near mog spot so i am content with that
Why are they planning on charging with numbers this low?....Seriously...
I already seeking for like 8 hours with no PT...awesome.
again
new patch = everyone wanting to do new content, not level....
so yeah, give it a few days for the novelty of the new stuff to wear off and leveling will be business as usual quick forming again
as far as charging....we all would love the game to stay free forever, but thats not realistic
What I'm seeing in this thread squares with my estimates. I think you can take the primetime population and triple it at most to get the actual active playerbase. People are generally online either morning, afternoon, or night. So I still estimate about 9k faithful free-trial players with a little more right now checking out the patch.
this isnt their peak hours though is it?
remember, we are talking peak hours
not "now" hours
and 30% of the population beign on at any given time is pretty much rediculous, in order for that to be true everyone would have to be on 8+ hours a day, which just isnt happening, and i can say that with 100% certainty
people like to think the lower numbers are the most accurate, but i think they dont give games enough credit(i can site a few older examples, such as champions online when this issue came up, and due to a server error we actualy saw the true population of the game one night when the servers didnt shard correctly and we all ended up on a single one)
but yeah some servers will ahve lower pops, but the higher pop servers will even those out, which is why i state 1000 players online average during peak hours is a good number to go with

When I logged in Selbina an hour or two after logging out of Fabul yesterday the number of people on was already over 600 without narrowing the number of players r50 online. I doubt they'd allow us to search/find how many people are online again after removing it in a hurry back in December if they didn't have server merge/switch in mind. Once they start charging, the number of chars on the servers will surely even go down even more. Like those with with 7 mules/chars on the same server not renewing or deleting their mules.Quote:

I think a lot of people are forgetting majority of the player base is JP. So before all the "oh noes" try to get the numbers at JP peak hour instead.
Here is a comparison to just my post earlier.
Not to say these numbers aren't low, I mean back in Oct 2010 I've marked it to be 2400ish world pop around these hours. That means roughly 1000 less, about 42% population drop since then.

Are you guys open the "All Classes" Menue and actually mark them all? <_< No idea how you guys do it but this is current Number on Gysahl:
Level 01-10 - 48 People
Level 11-20 - 72 People
Level 21-30 - 109 People
Level 31-40 - 124 People
Level 41-45 - 98 People
Level 46-49 - 65 People
Level 50 - Ok now im curious how you People do it:
72 GLA
31 PGL
44 MRD
67 LNC
138 ARC
152 CNJ
62 THM
11 Gatherclasses
42 Crafter
That is a total of 1135 ! And its not Primetime of any Region. So i ask again.. you guys actually MARK the Classes are you looking for?
Edit: lackofwords is doing it right: :)
It's nearing JP peak hours if not already their peak hour, 10:48pm now in Japan... hence my point how people are forgetting their player base is mainly in Japan.
Take FFXI peak hours as a guide, since it's roughly the same player base ratio.

Total: 1158 going up slowly.
At a Sidenote: We wont know the current Numbers until be first Tally will be out. At the moment we just can assume. Just that we have 1158 right now on Gysahl, does not mean that most of them are the same Players i found an hour ago. Its just an aprox Number in 1 Peaktime of 3 Peaktimes. And even between those 3 Mainpeaktimes exist Countries which come on at certain Times we are not aware of. etc etc.
Even low servers max at 300-400 at peak.
So even if you got 1000k per server, that 1000k isnt garaunteed to stay when billing starts is it? A lot of people saying they will stop playing once it goes p2p so the faithful customers might not be so faithful after all.
But in the end, as disturbing as these numbers are, they will all reduce a significant amount come January 6th, we can compare then the difference and see just how bad things or or see if SE got faithful customers.
Not to mention there are people who play all day or across 2 time segments (afternoon to peak) so say if 200 at afternoon and 300 at peak that isnt 500 unique people garauntee, 100 of them could be people still playing, infact that is more likely true because people AFK a lot. you know... or bot lol.

Roughly 700 ppl on Trabia.
very sad considering that we just had a major patch release and it's free... 6 jan will be the "death" of this game until 2.0 ? (they'll do server merge of course... but for how many player total.. uhmm 10k ? )
People play MMO's for 2 reasons. 1) for an almost never ending stream of content (which this game doesn't have yet), and to play with thousands of other people from around the world. Thats 1000's, not hundreds. Cripes even XI's smallest server had 2000 people on it at a time during slow hours. So yes, why would I pay a monthly fee to play with 10 other people? If they want to charge with these numbers, at least let us switch worlds so we can play on a well populated server. The two are related. My logic is just fine thanks.
The reason for me to unsub, my home-shell died some time ago and other shells dont want to play much together. Add such low population, there is no fun for me left in this game. Only fan-shells are staying with strong cores, but they re like "locked shells".
They did right when they removed server-population indicator.
Numbers look okay for JP primetime. Unfortunately, that's not much help for someone who can't play during JP prime lol.
I mean, I know the server merge is just a bad idea in terms of PR, but FFXI started merges when servers hit approx 800-1100 people at quiet times. They were still seeing 2000 during peak hours, so it's hard to justify these servers are fine when a 9 year old game at the time had more people/server. Not to mention, on the first merger, the game had 30 servers, 11 more than XIV does. Hell, even at the time of merger, Odin wasn't even accepting people cause it was hitting 6,000+ at times.
I like this game, it's gotten leaps and bounds better, but when JP primetime is only hitting 1100 players at peak times on the more populated servers? There's gonna be one huge problem come billing time.
The reason I dont want merge is because the UI lag is just retarded when there are lots on.
When the servers went live an hour early, it was godly. No one was on and everything was sooo damn smooth and fast.
But son as people logged it in got back to its crappy self, and with a merge it will be back how it was on release, sluggy!
i couldn't imagine doing those moogle nm's with anymore people there, lol. i guess that the upside.
you don't want a server merge because you are on one of the populated servers. how about the rest of us that are on the lower servers? karnak broke 312 during jp prime time today and hovers near 200 during na prime time. i know many of us leave our characters afk all day whether we are playing or not. if you figure even only 20 people do this(it's more on here because we try to give the looks of people online) that's 180-290 people on and actually playing.
if you added karnak's na primetime and the jp primetimes together they would be less than the number besaid had yesterday for just na players. figure our na primetime numbers were 200 and jp primetime was 312 that's only 500 players on during the course of an entire day. that, my friend, is quite dead.
i understand you mention that it would be laggy if they merged all servers into one, but i really doubt that even if they merged every server into a single server that we would have as many players as each server had when the game launched. i haven't seen anyone saying we needed to combine them down that bad, but we could either merge these small servers into larger ones or even combine the low servers to form a larger one.
the example would be last night selbina boasted a 600+ member online while karnak was at 202 and melmond was at 248. even if you merged melmond and karnak together you would only have just over 400 people online. that combined would be around 66% of what selbina had. if you merged those 2 servers and another small server together it would give them around the same number of people that a larger server had. it would not effect the larger servers at all, but would drastically increase the playing experience of the people on those 3 smaller severs.
this would help out the people on the smaller servers as well as save some of the funds se is having to spend on those additional servers they are getting rid of on 2.0 anyways.
Dont forget v.2 and the Release to PS3.
The Xbox Release in FFXI gave FFXI an incredible Boost back then. And people need to think about it.. we are just PC Players at the moment. FFXI got PC, PS and Xbox, so right now you cant really compare the Numbers to each other.
i agree with this to an extent.
yes, the numbers will increase on 2.0 and the ps3 release, but they also stated alot of work was going to be done and will be changing over to different servers then as well. the servers we are on now will not be the servers we are on once 2.0 hits anyways.
we can't compare these numbers as the ps3 has not released yet, but we can compare them in the fact that we are in game playing it and will be paying to do so for almost a year. even if we only lose 25% of the people per server once payment takes effect then karnak will go from 200 to 150 players online during na primetime. that is too low to have people want to stay in a server that dead. the options are rerolling on a different server and losing a year worth of progress, staying on a dead server and playing a mmo solo, or waiting until 2.0.
i'd be happy if they just merged the small servers into one larger server so at least we had enough people to play together with and have fun in the game. that would not hurt the large servers an any way, but would make the game better for those on the small servers.
yes, the populations may go up with 2.0, but nearly a year before that happens, the populations will go down
I don't care what will happen in 2.0 when a significant portion of the year is still 1.0, fix the immediate problems with population and stop bringing up 2.0 as a claim that the low population situations will be "short lived"
Hmm just did a search on Lindblum, JP only was 200+. EN only was 200+, FR was 16, and DE was 100
