My favorite thing about fiction is how everyone can interpret it differently.

Oh good. The Kingdom Hearts effect. Two people of the same sex that are close friends clearly want to bang each other. Thanks again fangirls.
And then, if it's even true, you ruin everything by making a big deal out of it.
How about this. I normally don't hug people in the game, so whenever I do hug one of my FC mates, we are now a couple. There is no such thing as friendship hugs anymore; they are now all sexual hugs. Yup, that has to be it.
I'll ship it! :D
People need to lighten up.
Maybe because you called a simple friendship with one hug a "lesbian couple." And that is simply false. People tend not to enjoy false, or to find it happy or pleasant. There is absolutely no romantic or sexual tension between Lyse and Alisaie, anywhere in the MSQ or anywhere else.
On the other hand, there are a LOT of interactions that can be easily interpreted as romantic tension between Lyse and the Warrior of Light in the second part of the expansion, regardless of the latter's gender.

Yeah, I don't think most of us fancy the idea of a 16 year old and someone who's around 25.
Welp, I knew you were from Balmung for one. I think people are either tired of the fact, every single, tiny little detail that is placed
people scream "THEY'RE GAY!" So, with your logic, everyone here who has hugged someone of their same gender is gay.
Say if I hugged a friend, who I knew would be in grave danger, returns with some wounds, I would hug them too, yet gently lol.
There was a male couple in this game IIRC, and the guys said it was his loved one, and that made me happy to see.
However, your 'proof' is something that can and could happen everyday with just friends. Doesn't mean they are gay.
You probably actually insulted a few folks.
What in tarnation?
If you're wondering why folks are so exasperated, it's because you're trying to pass your own personal ship off as the real deal. It's even possible that you honestly don't even recognize that it's just your own personal preferred pairing, and not canonical at all.
Basically, it's a case of your Shipping Goggles being on a little too tight. Frankly, dig deep enough into the dialog and contexts and you can find reasons to pair up pretty darned near any two characters in the game - and many of them with more "proof" than you've provided for Yda and Allisae.
Fandoms THRIVE on this kind of thing, and creators are more than happy to throw in little tidbits to support just about any possible pairing, because they know that fans eat that kind of stuff up. Rarely, however, do they actually provide any kind of closure on a ship - and they certainly haven't done so here. After this heartfelt hug, do the two start going on romantic dates, or walk around holding hands, or anything else that you might expect a couple who has finally admitted their love to do? No, they do not. Their dialog is indistinguishable from that you'd find between any pair of close friends, because that's what they are: close friends.
In fandom circles, anytime someone stands up and says, "My preferred pairing is the real deal and here's the reasons why!" they will always be shot down, just as is happening here. A lesbian relationship is far from the only, or even most obvious thing to infer from this scene.
If hugging another woman is gay... then my husband is going to be MOST surprised.
Seriously though. Your Head cannon is your business, but don't present it as a fact because that is foolish.
Y'all are the only ones reducing everything I said to the hug. I pointed out the hug was out of typical character, pointed to a line almost immediately after with some queer implications for Alisaie, and then pointed to an example of Alisaie not just wanting to protect Lyse but feeling embarrassed by that being noticed. A reasonable excuse would have been easy to give so why would she be embarrassed if she wasn't doing it for personal reasons? Y'all can't read into the subtext of a scene, reduce arguments you disagree with to a single point, and claim a single happy post is making a big deal. Learn some chill.
Quite so... Occam's razor in effect. "Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected." Sain Saying that they're friends is not an assumption, we know they are. Saying it's more than that is an assumption since there is no direct evidence.
If you can't just ignore a thread for interpreting something differently how do you manage to get through your day to day.
Probably because Alisaie doesn't want to have her "soft" side of her shown out like that. SHE IS A TSUNDERE!
Don't you dare embarrass her! Anyway, I dunno if you noticed but Lyse is almost ALWAYS ready to beat heads in...
As she said in the story herself. Her emotions are causing her to do things that otherwise jeopardize any plans.
So Alisaie did the smart thing to do, have Lyse do something simple and out the way for a while.
If anything, I can see them two as 'Sisters' and that's all.
Honestly, it's the misleading title that is bothering people. You claim they are a lesbian couple, despite a fair bit of evidence they aren't (especially including the age difference), and that bothered some people. A title like "Possible lesbian couple in MSQ?" would draw a lot less ire.
There have been unambiguous cases of Gay characters in the game (such as the gay couple quest givers for Wanderer's Palace Hard mode), so most people entering the thread probably thought there was something closer to that.
I can well read subtext in a scene and I've made many, many predictions on the storyline of this game that have proven valid. You are pushing hard to create a subtext that is only the subtext you want that validates your personal feelings on the scene. Honestly, I don't think anyone here is really saying, "You shouldn't want it to be that." More to the point is your coming out and saying, "This is so obviously what happened according to my feelings so therefore that must be the truth of it for everyone." You have no evidence of this relationship anywhere else, and you even go on to say that all the other women and Alphinaud and Estinian are going together that you just elevate your statements to absurd levels and proclaim it as Canon truth.
"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." You do not present any evidence aside from your interpretation of the scene and the relationship and preach it as the only possible truth. This is not a good argument and people are calling you out on that.
You are reading too much into things.
A "couple" involves two people. While Alisaie's orientation and attitude may, as a very big stretch, be open to a degree of interpretation, there is absolutely *zero* of the sort from Lyse. The hug was evidently friendly. The only character Lyse shows a possible romantic interest for is the warrior of light.
Instead of telling people to "learn some chill" you may want to learn that not everyone is required to enjoy the shoehorning of your silly and simplistic theories on characters who show absolutely no sign of supporting them.
PS: being embarrassed by a public hug is absolutely no indication of "queer." It's an indication of shyness towards physical and public manifestation of affection, which is definitely in line with Alisaie's character.
Still waiting for SE to let me marry Thancred.
The ire would be the same thing because the issue has nothing to do with them being gay or straight, the issue is because their statement about their romantic inclinations are false just because the two characters hugged. People can't even f-ing hug anymore without people jumping to conclusions, it's stupid.
At least three of us who are mentioned dissatisfaction with this drastic stretch of the imagination to being some sort of homosexual reference to an innocent relationship of a CHILD and an adult are actually homosexual out selves.
The issue isn't only just the homosexual part, but more so the forced ideas of a relationship between two close friends who have been through LITERALLY THE END OF THE WORLD and killing a giant freakn Dragon together.

Either way, this thread is providing tons of entertainment. :D
I guess ok if two friends consider themselves more or less as family and they hug each other are shy around other people and hope that nothing bad happens to them they are gay right.
For my part in this whole argument, I wouldn't have cared if it was something like, "I wonder if this is possible?" I don't care if Lyse or Alisae are into women. What I care about is the statement as confirmation of fact without any real evidence that they are a couple based upon one single scene and a very typical expression of friendship. I'd be just as much up in arms about someone pushing a relationship between a pair like Slafyrsyn and Merlwyb (even though the two talk like they're an old married couple anyway) or such. There's just nothing there and this statement is a reach trying to state something as truth without anything to support it.
Absolutely :D
I actually LOVED how they left the dialogue between Lyse and the Warrior of Light tense enough that it can be very easily interpreted as romance, but vague enough that the player can decide what to believe.

Best. Scene. Ever.
Headcanon is strong with this one.
