Either they skip the CGI trailer for this expansion or they plan to hold it off for pre-release trailer.

To begin speculation..
What if the blond gladiator fighting for the garlean empire is the true Yda?her sister.
Garleans could have catched and brainwashed her,and she now fight for the empire?
We see her in some different scenes in the trailer,2 of them fighting lyse, and with the emperor,so she may be "important" enough that we see her some times in the story.
(Sorry for my poor english skills :p)

Fordola
A young soldier born and raised during the imperial occupation of Ala Mhigo, Fordola was promised the world─education, training, citizenship─in exchange for service. Scorned as traitors by their people and savages by their Garlean masters, she and others like her struggle to forge their own path in an unforgiving world.
-From the stormblood page.
For some reason this entire expansion and the trailer just doesn't do anything for me T_T It's not that its bad, per say..its just, I've no hype. Heh..my boyfriend muted the song within like a minute because he disliked it so much :x It is underwhelming for an Uematsu song I got to agree! It's weird, the first FFXIV video where I did not get goosebumps or go nuts.
I did like how Lyse looked like Kid, from CT. I want that outfit XD Anyway, I'll still play Stormblood! I'm sure it'll be fun ^^
Seems like they're setting up Fordola as Lyse's rival. I wonder if Fordola will survive?
I hope we'll see the darker aspects of pre-Garlean Doman culture with Yotsuyu. Yugiri did tell Gosetsu that their lord would cut her down for now honoring her debt to Eorzea, but that might be a over exaggeration. Gosetsu also said that those who flee during a fight would be cut down ... maybe someone like Regulus who constantly retreated vs WoL would have been executed under Doman codes?
So the song was nice. But not as good as the rest of the music we have already.
The visuals were kinda cool, I'm glad we'l get to see tons more of Yugiri. She is literally I reason I switched to Au Ra from Miqo'te in HW. The only thing I'm really wishing for is our hero doing more in cutscenes. Kinda sick of being the warrior of light and needing our other scions or random people doing stuff while we watch.
I think the problem with that is that they have to account for the player's class so action scenes involving the Warrior of Light are pretty hard.
I remember being super disappointed in the 3.1 MSQ when we didn't get to clash with the Warrior of Darkness and instead it was Thancred, but after thinking about it, what would they do for people who play WHM or SMN? It's not like they can make a different version of the cutscene for every class, so it's easier to just have all the fights the WoL is involved in be actual gameplay.
As cool as this trailer is, it's a bit weird to me that the main musical theme to an Asian themed expansion doesn't really sound like it draws any influence from traditional Asian music.
Well we already have some scenes just like that, but the thing is that even then they can't be too complex and only use some really generic attack animation. A full-blown action would not only need to take into account our class but our race as well.
A fight scene involving a Roegadyn would have to look very different from one with a Lalafell.
About the new song, Revolutions, I do enjoy it and think it's quite lovely, but I do see why some would feel a little underwhelmed. Previously I had gone under the assumption that the full song would incorporate part of the music we heard during the Stormblood trailer with added vocals. Had that been the case I think the result would have been a bit more powerful since a full piece based around that tone would have set a different mood.
Step on me, Anego!
Jokes aside, I didn't like the theme. Sorry, just didn't feel it.
What I did like:
-Au Ras. Lots and lots of em. It'll be nice to get more insight about them directly in the game.
-lol @ Y'shtola for once again, doing her awkward step-in shield. I guess the movie makers wanted impact but thought a long range defensive spell was too ordinary.
-Dat "dragon" lady and her smoking that pipe. Idk which is hotter.
-Was that a young Ilberd pointing at some sign on the wall or whatever writing that was?
-Alisae Red Mage but not wearing red mage AF confirmt.
Yeah, even in situations like 3.1's introduction of the WoD, we could have had a fight instead with the objective being "Survive" and the duration of the instance being say... a minute or two. Just dodging AoEs and stuff, it'd be a "hopeless boss fight" and even if you lose it still plays the cutscene of you getting your ass handed to you so Thancred can do his big damned hero moment.
Alternatively, they could have us clash armaments in various ways. Samurai, Red Mage, Dark Knight, Paladin can share animations, so can Warrior, Dragoon, White Mage, and Black Mage. There's also Monk and Ninja, as well as Scholar and Summoner. That only leaves Machinist and Astrologians as the odd ones out, but Machinists could just do a combat roll and I'm sure AST could just do what Y'shtola did and parry using a barrier of light (Nocturnal Aspected Benefic).
Well in that specific incident the WoL was disoriented from their echo vision which is why they, and Krile, were sluggish in reacting. The WoD recovered much quicker. I think its fine for the WoL to take a back seat occasionally, if nothing else to showcase the fact that our allies are actually competent and highly skilled. As long as the WoL isn't always just standing by the whole time and when they do they have a good reason to.
Regardless, actually making the WoL fight in the cutscene, and making it look good, would be very work intensive. Each Job would need a version (so 15 versions) and each version would need to be adapted for every race/gender combination. That is a huge amount of work for just one cutscene. They could probably do a whole series of cutscenes with the time and resources it would take to do just that one.
If it's anything like the Heavensward CGI trailer then that's either the theme that plays in Kugane or a remix of it that will eventually be used in an important boss fight
If you mean the music that plays when the camera is soaring across the map, that's just a remix of Prelude and is most likely what is going to be used in SB's new title screen.
Okay first, I want to say I'm not picking on you here, Belhi. :D
But this kind of response reads to me as "Well they can't do it cause they're lazy." I'm sorry, they are a multi-billion dollar company and rake in tons of cash from our monthly subs as well as the whales who buy stuff on the Mog station. There is no reason, in my mind, that they can't do that extra work to make our hero believeable in cutscenes.
It is going to be really hard for any future Final Fantasy to top one of that game's version of the Prelude. It is so pretty and powerful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAlFt3AS8HA
I'm letting the trailer wash over me like the waves from the sea. Have no need to pick it apart, just allowing myself to feel it. Wow! Excitement trembles in my veins.
Never have I felt such anticipation for an expansion. Hope fills me. Will this be a home run for Square Enix and for us players? We will know in five weeks.
It's missing the classic piano and only has the second part which was added in FFIV I think, that might be why it's harder to recognize.
You can hear it pretty clearly in ARR's title theme
Yeah the trailer looked amazing. I'll leave picking apart stuff when I play the story.
The theme song wasn't as good as answers but it was as good as the heavensward one.
Hopefully in the next expansions they make it less about the lyrics and more about the emotion. Answers above anything had emotion through sounds. In stormblood the emotion through lyrics felt forced at some points.
Calloway is a nice singer but they're focusing all the song's performance on her as if she was the point of the song instead of balancing the singing and the instruments/composition properly so that the composition drives the song and not solely/mostly on the artist singing.
honestly answer was extremely good, it was the theme that did end a time and announce the rebirth of ff14, it was epic.
dragonsong was epic in another sense, we was facing an something big, the dragon war was not small.
but here this theme is very nice for different reason, it slowly building into a strong song, not because we join something already big, we are at the start of something big, it's a build up for the whole song!
I am not really sure about the new theme. It really did not give me the feelings like answer and dragonsong did. Also I did not feel like they matched the scenes that well.
The story it self seems to be quite a lot about fighting. (I lol'ed a little at the campfire scenes which felt like a copy of the HW one) and I can already see that we will lose another round of friends in that conflict. (Not that I have much NPCs that I love still alive x))
Maybe its just me but it kinda felt like it showed way to much, so I still hope that the story itself brings lots of surprises.
Also kinda wonder if part of the conversation with the Auri will change depending on your race? I would feel a little sad if they would not react at least a little bit if you are an Au Ra WoL.
Hyped, still 27 days till early acess.
I feel inclined to agree. With the Dragonsong video, a lot of interesting scenes were shown, but you don't know what's going on because the most important part of any one of those scenes is the dialog. By contrast, with Revolutions I feel like I'm going into the expansion with a pretty good idea of how the entire main plot will unfold.
@Blueeyes: At least we already know (thanks to the trailer) that we will get the help from the Auri in yellow clothes since they can be seen later on those mounts.
I know that trailers are there to create interest but maybe a short one with less scenes would have been nice. We already know that the place where the resistance lives is going to be attacked by the bad guy and who fights him. We might not know the ending to that but still would have been a nice surprise in the game itself. Also Alisae attacking like that, this would have been quite the "O_O" moment ingame too.
Maybe I should just stop watching FF14 trailers x)''.
