Caster class (Ranged DD and Debuff)
Pets. But not bad pets.
FFXI's solution to making sure pet classes aren't over powered was to make it so nobody could do anything to pets outside of special skills. Because of this, when haste got put into the picture, pet jobs always lose because the pet doesn't benefit, so they are at a disadvantage. It's important for pets to scale properly with the master, and to be affected by buffs and debuffs. Not being able to do these things severly limits the strategies for which pet classes can be included.
I really hate to say this, but this is where I point to WoW, where pet classes are balanced just fine despite the fact that both you and other players can heal and buff pets like they would any player character. I'm no big fan of WoW, but this is perhaps the one biggest thing the game handled better than most- pet classes.
Heh...seeing fow shallow the game mechanics are going to be past 1.20 i don't think pet classes would be good...it will be something like FFXI DRG (pet mimic) or some s#!tty version of FFXI BST due the amount of actions. I don't see the 2.0 (assuming we won't get another battle revamp after this one fail again) having what's needed to support a pet class.
All three!!! ;)
I'd want a pet job first.
I would go with Caster and Beastmaster. Perhaps until we have more primals and avatars to fight, then summoner
Since its going to be a CLASS and not a JOB that hes asking about, according to the translation I very seriously doubt Summoner will be a class. Thus, its likely that this will be a general pet type. I'm guessing a Beastmaster. Having said that:
My vote is pet class, (Because likely the Summoner would be a job off of it - and I want that ASAP).
I actually just wanted to see how many ppl actually replied the third poll since they already will be billing by then.
If anything as complex, customizable, adaptable and all around exhilarating as Puppetmaster was implemented, I would pay for this game for at least three years without interruption. Even if my PC explodes somewhere along the road and I can't play.
*sigh* I know, I know. That job was the most impractical thing to implement from an MMO standpoint, I can't even believe it was made in the first place... Well, a man can dream. I'd return to XI just for that job if the game hadn't gotten ridiculous after the cap increase.
I'm derailing again. Just anything complex at ALL would give me great joy.
TL;DR: I don't care what you put in, just up the complexity. (Also I love Puppetmaster and Mammets make me cry for real.)
so when/where is the new poll?
edit: never mind i see it.
I was hoping for a samurai or ninja type class.
Pet class please!
I would like to start charming my army of moogles soon.
Agreed. I never got to actually play it in FFXI but from what I read/heard it sounded pretty damn cool. Just how unique it is alone makes me want something like it in FFXIV lol. I'm all about unique, interesting and complex classes, especially if they're customizable in some way.
caster like a summoner
One caster class, if not two, is a necessity right now due to the lack of available skills used for casters. There are several options for melee right now, but only two classes for casters.
In this order I want to see the following classes/jobs added;
1. Pure Caster (Arcanist/[Geomancer??])
2. Ranged (Musketeer/Corsair)
3. Caster/Pet Hybrid. (Flayer/Summoner)
4. Ranged/Pet Hybrid (Ranger/Beastmaster)
Thief doesn't need to come for a very very long time. This shouldn't be a player opinion poll because there is a huge imbalance between melee vs ranged and casters.
As an opinion though, I hope Thief is one of the last classes added (if at all), and I'd prefer to stay away from Red Mage until at least Blue, Green, or Time mage gets added. Red was just a boring combination of WHM/BLM.
My vote is pet class but I just hope they do it right. Don't ask me how to do it right, I'm just a consumer.
Skipping ahead, and just saying, out of those 3, Scout. In so many ways.
But what we WILL NEED is more healers, since we are going to be down to 1.
A DD/Healer (like MRD is DD/tank) would be nice. (And I don;t mean THM just equipping cure, and trying to keep a group alive after the change over.)
If not, then Healer/Tank, though dunno if that's what they intend PLD to do, but doubt it. (I dont mean a helping hand, but actually main heal in small groups/exp scenarios.)
I'm also a fan of melee mages, like melee healer, etc, but since PGL looks like its going the route of melee mage, i doubt i'll see the melee mage i imagine.
The only melee mage we MIGHT see is a healing DoM, but with PLD having a heal, doubt it will happen as well.
So as much as i would want scout, out of those 3, i would see pet being the most asked for.
Scout class.
Class - Job - Weapon
Arcanist - Green Mage - Rod
Scout - Thief - Dagger
And to make the first vision complete:
Musketeer - Cosair - Gun (Musket)
I just see this all happening first. Plus, that makes 10 combat classes and 10 jobs. It is possible in the future, as many have suggested, that each class will have 2 jobs. However, Yoshi has said dual leveling classes can lead to unlocking, example he gave was Red Mage.
But, Scout class was discussed and Thief was given as an example for its job and then a dual weapon job version of Ninja was mentioned too. So, perhaps one class, two jobs will happen.
Consider this:
Gladitor -Paladin and Samurai -Sword
Marauder - Warrior and Dark Knight - Axe
Pugilist - Monk and Dancer - Fists
Archer - Bard and Beastmaster (could call it Ranger) - Bow
Thaumaturge - Black Mage and Summoner - Wand
Conjurer - White Mage and Geomancer - Staff
Lancer - Dragoon and Blue Mage (Lancet ability from FFX) - Lance
Scout - Thief and Ninja - Dagger
Musketeer - Corsair and Gun Mage (A new class for FF14 that has FF Lore from FFX-2 and brings another Mage Job in)
Arcanist - Green Mage (could call it Oracle from Tactics) and Red Mage - Rod (could change to Rapier maybe for RDM)
That's 10 combat classes and 20 jobs. Each class could have one job as a sort of combat job and the other as an assist job if you look at that list. It makes somewhat sense. It also cover most of the hardcore FF jobs, save Beserker. With the pet system mentioned before, it is possbile that puppeteer will not be needed.
Just a thought, would at the very least the top is what I see happening first in the order of: Arcanist, Scout and then Musketeer. These may all be expansion classes or you could see one in for 2.0 to help balance things. No doubt they took away the debuff stuff to give it to a class/job later.
why not all of the above. unless it's a case of squeezing one out before 2.0 than im all for either a scout, or the caster; we need more class diveristy.
thief could be a dp class with sneak attacks. which advances into ninja job which is dps/debuffer where hopefully enfeeble ninjitsu has more effect than it did in FFXI rather than shadows. lol.
for the mage, we could have a TIME MAGE with skills like:
REWIND: restore hp/mp to 1 min ago. (where the fight hasnt begun)
HASTE/SLOW: speeds up party, slows targets.
DECAY: damage proportional to amount of damage target received in the last 30 seconds. (lower damage while soloing, but scales with party size)
More Disciples of Magic, two is not enough.
Pets and thief can wait.
We have mages, we have melee and soon support classes.
What this game glaringly lacks is a pet class, in fact I was absolutely flabbergasted a MMO launched without one.
Yoshi-P sir, please hurry with the pets! Summoners, beastmaster, wyverns (oh my!) This is what I've really been holding out for.
Two is not enough. Versus the other disciples which already have 5 classes, which are all very different. Where as, until the job system comes out, Thaumaturge and Conjurer are practically the same, minus heals.
Edit: And the poll isn't even going to be fair. The first poll showed players are largely melee players, so when it does go to poll... Thank you all you meleers that have 5 classes to level versus 2 disciples of magic.
Oh good, ranged DD and Debuff..
It's good to know Yoshida plans to ruin Red Mage as well..
I respect your comment for being someone who likes to only play mage classes, but I'm a player who only likes to play pet classes. So really it's melee lovers have 5 classes to level, magic lovers have 2, support role players will have 2 eventually (whm and bard) but pet class lovers have 0...
Again I refer you to the part where Yoshida said he wants to add more mage classes before more war classes because that's what the game needs:

If you look at the game right now, the balance is more toward physical attack classes with very few caster classes. Looking at MMOs, we realize that this is not a good balance to have, so the first thing that we're going to be doing after introducing the job system is probably introduce another caster class because that's what the game needs. We realize that currently, the game is lacking in a lot of crowd control type of spells, and we need these to make battles more strategic. To introduce these types of spells, we think one obvious way is to introduce a new caster class that's able to handle them.
Yoshida is pulling all his classes from Early Final Fantasies. Red Mage is the Debuffing Mage, nobody can dispute that. They also used to be versed in Cross-bows. But they have always been better with Swords.
It really is a shame that he has this obsession with reviving Archaic Mage Loadouts. The glaring deficiencies are going to be painful to watch in action. An MMO where you can't survive without every class.. That should be fun.
I would love to see either a whip or crossbow Red Mage. Don't get me wrong, personally I have been dying for a Theif, but, I would be happy to wait for a thief to see debuffs come back.
As for a pet class, I think battle needs to be more balanced before a pet shows up.
It will most likely be beastmaster. The last time summoner was mentioned they didn't know how they were going to handle it as. Versus Beastmaster which can be pure melee and be less stressful to worry about. Beastmaster, unless they call it something else, will most likely fall under Disciple of War, just like scout, so it will probably make it 6 DoW, 2 DoM.
Then why bother saying there's going to be a poll and we choose 1?Quote:
