You think these threads are irritating? Wait until December and the shit-storm threads of people complaining the Odin emote is "walled" behind a "worthless" statue.
Lol I got some salt for you, I'm buying it for the statue. Its going to look outstanding on my desk at work. Bonus points for a mortuary worker to have the God of Death & Wipes on his desk.
I don't know what's worse:
People so willing to throw money at SE for fake items that have zero value in the real world or,
People being gouged by SE and not caring/failing to see it/actually okay with it.
There really is a sucker born every minute.
You're not going to get anywhere by insulting anyone, best to actually attack arguments rather than people if you're actually trying to convince anyone of anything. I don't feel the blame is on those who purchase it as it's their only option, but on SE and the people who continually ask for items to be made on the cash shop. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't throw out the lore and sell Garlean equipment on the cash shop, even though people have been begging for that.
As for digital items having zero value in the real world, that goes for almost everything digitally.
Value is always subjective. The folks who bought the glamour and enjoy it would argue otherwise with you on justifying their purchase. Keep in mind that this is just vanity goods. It's not a sin against humanity to have it at the price they do. It's easy to argue that $18 on this digital item has far greater lasting value than 2-3 beers at a sport event.
If they're going to be evil about that sort of thing, and make all future cash shop goods reflect such higher prices, there would be better room for argument, but it's still their decision. You don't have to like it, nor does anyone else, but the longer you continue playing the game, the less of a big deal it is to them. That's the down and dirty of it from a business stance.
I don't see why twist her words. It's pretty obvious that the statue has more details than the dress, and a statue actually costs to be produced in mass scale, while a virtual item such as the dress does not.
You can dislike the work of someone and think that it's not worth the price. People do it every time.
That doesn't mean you think that people shouldn't be paid (most of these artists are probably already paid, I doubt that a huge company like SE would comission an artist just for this dress or give % of each sale for the team that made it, very unlikely).
Is it so absurd to actually find that a dress that it's gender-locked, not account-wide and is more expensive than the subscription of the game itself not cool? Honestly? If you think that, you are a monster that think that people shouldn't be paid? LOL.
It costs 18 dollars because it costs 18 dollars. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. Someone worked on the dress model itself, and made it to fit all 6 races in the game. If you feel that their work is worth $3, please feel free to pay $3 and hope someone will lend you the $15 or something, because how you look at it is uncalled for because you're basically saying "Oh yeah, your work is only this much", if the devs see value in their work, then they will price it with the value they perceive.
"I don't see why twist her words." Well she said it, I didn't twist anything...
Also, let me answer it the way you would... Is it so absurd to actually pay a price that a dev set because they see value in the hard work they put into it, not only that but also offered it exclusively to an entirely different country? Honestly? If you think that, you are a monster that think that people shouldn't be paid for what they think their work is worth? LOL.
It goes both ways, so don't even try to pull the victim card.
Man, if people threw this much of a fit over prices when I worked at a supermarket, I'd have quit my job sooner.
Well, I'm not saying that people that want to buy it shouldn't buy it. If you have the money and want to support it, it's not like I can stop you anyway.
But you are saying that the people that don't agree with the price do not value the work of other people. That's extremely rude.
Also, these artists likely have a salary way higher than 3 dollars. It's not like they aren't getting paid for it at all.
Yeah, because if I don't agree with the price of a thing at all, I don't value the work of people. Good lord. LOL The world that some people live in is amazing. It's either black or white. You could use that money you spend valuing other people's work buying some common sense, y'know.
In todays CNY to USD exchange rates it cost 19 USD or so. When I bought it on the Chinese version of the game when it was released I think it would have been around $16 USD. The item as I stated earlier cost 12800 coupons which is 128 CNY. I will state that I would expect the Chinese mall to be more expensive than the NA Mogstation since as I also said earlier in the thread that subscriptions there unless you play every single day for 5hrs is cheaper by a lot as it is around 10 cents (closer to 9 cents now) USD per 1hr of play (no monthly sub only hourly). I really do not care about the price as I am someone who will buy if I want something and I see it as worth the price paid but facts are that the Chinese mall on every single other item is more expensive so this is even a shock to me as I expected it based on other items between the chinese mall and the mogstation to be closer to around 10-12.
No, but more than likely, Square didn't get the rights to distribute this dress in the other regions free of charge due to the dress's origin, and they need to be paid. As this post from earlier in the topic illustrates:
Copyright and Distribution laws are crazy things. The price of the dress is more than likely factoring in the cost it took Square to even purchase the rights to distribute it.
I fully expect if they bring the wukong stuff over here at some point it'll cost just as much, if not more due to the exact same reason. Just pray Square themselves designs the next big glamour piece you want and not a company from another region.
Square (specifically the FFXIV team at square enix) designed these items to begin with.... there is no chinese or korean development team. The chinese company that people think runs FFXIV over there is ONLY a marketing and support company that gives outside companies access to Chinese markets without jumping through a huge number of hoops while offering regional support to customers of that game.... why do so many people not understand this, even the chinese media has made this quite clear. This is like saying that everything in square enix online store is owned and copyrighted by pepita when pepitastore is only a distribution and support company and has nothing to do with actually creating the product itself and has no rights to it outside of current distribution.
Melorie is right and you're wrong @Erryk. Just because something is overpriced doesn't mean we have to "appreciate the detail of the devs" Good design is nice but at eighteen dollars for one simple virtual item that isn't even account wide.... (you have to pay again to have this on your alt....) this is not worth it. SO AGAIN.... please stop saying we are calling the designs crap. Nobody is. It is a question of this being a ripoff at such a high price for an item.
All we can do is speculate really! We do know that SE's development team designed and implemented the dress in game, and we do that Yoshida's only given reasoning that they have items that don't "fit" into the universe is that the Asian regions don't care much for immersion. If the item has been licensed by the Chinese publisher, they issued a commission so that SE would design it or it's in their contract for the license of the game. If it was a commission, then the money paid to license the item would be no more than the money paid to create it.
I don't believe SE would force themselves into a contract where they lose items they developed in house, they claimed it takes 6 months to design a set, 6 months of development time from our development team. But again, all we can do is speculate. Let's not pretend they wouldn't have charged higher prices if that's not the case though, I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's a very desirable item and the community has made that clear. MMORPGs like Black Desert Online take advantage of that too, the gear in that game are worlds apart from FFXIV and they charge a hefty $30 per set, per class. I'm guilty of spending quite a bit on there myself, before they killed off the game anyhow. :s
Worth it or not, I think the decision to make it character specific rather than account wide at that price probably cost them some sales to people who rightly consider having to drop $18 per character to have this on an alt is a step beyond reason. $18 for an account wide item is a lot easier to swallow. That said, I spend so little time on my alts that it's a questionable benefit. Either way, I do have the dress, it looks great, as does the barding. But I do wish it had been account wide.
Okay, so, coming in late to the game here but...
Has anyone happened to mentioned the fact that these items, which were promised as an exlusive item for China, were not free for the chinese populace and they too had to pay for them?
I mean, it's one thing to expect a free regional exlusive to be put into our version of the game free as well, but these outfits, emotes and barding were never free to begin with and the only reason we got them across the NA/EU/JP versions to begin with is because of user feedback.
You clearly don't understand what Pay to Win means if you think referring to items that were available at no extra cost somehow makes the new dress on the mogstation less of an issue... Something being Pay to Win usually requires that you, you know, pay for it.
FYI a lot of cash shops that eventually fell into the P2W black hole started with offering stuff like this. People defended it, saying it wasn't P2W enough to be a problem, so the devs got bold and added more and more invasive stuff. That will happen here as well unless people tell them NOT to go any further. By defending this dress you are asking the devs to push their luck with the cash shop.
I'm fine with it staying in the Mog Station. It's just vanity stuff. We were lucky to be able to get the dress and emote to begin with. The community asked for it and we got it. I agree it's a bit over priced but what ever....
How ever i'm still waiting on that flying could mount SE...
