Bye Aikaal. Thanks for your contributions to the community.
You lost your fighting spirit because you are no longer a lalafell.
The problem is you'te not talking about raiding but rather hardcore verse casual content and a line to divide them. Alex:N, Diadem, and Void ark are raids but for casual players. Alex:S and to lesser degree Primal EX is the only hardcore content. Maybe the best option is release a Normal and Savage version of the 3 raids when they launch with an ilvl dividing it. The gear should be designed similar to how PvP animal gear is with high tier tweaking the appearance slightly. I don't know, the best question is what do hardcore players actually want?
When I found out Savage will be pretty much the same I said to myself: "meh won't even bother."
I can summate this one well, with a bit of rhetoric if you'll humor me:
Say you're a raider and while your static isn't world-first level, you guys all really put in 100% effort and progress at a fairly decent rate. You've had good nights, bad nights, setbacks, had to cancel a raid night or two for RL reasons, but you FINALLY got all your gear/upgrades and are now a solid 210. . .
Then SE released Diadem the next day, and someone who farmed it all day is now 210 as well.
That's what we DON'T want. This isn't saying "casuals" (prefer not to use that term in a bad way) or non-raiders don't deserve to gear up, but they don't deserve to be able to gear to the same level with less or minimal effort. Yes, time and future content makes that possible anyways, but as there is no higher raid tier/item levels right now, I say too much too soon. And it's not the first time it's happened. Won't be the last either.
For raiders and "hardcores" it becomes, "Why bother climbing the mountain when they're going to just add a lift to the top soon?"
I thought all catch-up patches are like that. The non-Raiders can also get 210 from the 24-man raid (once a week) and Hunts, just like 2.0. SE just added another method here in 3.0 (but obviously didn't intend the gear rate for 210 to be that high so they just patched Diadem). As an Alex raider myself, I tried Diadem a few times but could never get a piece to drop with exactly the maximized stat I wanted, so I'd rather just do my weekly Void Ark and continue Alex.
You're right, and I did note that. Time and future content will make what we go through for our gear obsolete (T9 and T13 are a joke now), but it does still sting just a little when someone obtains or exceeds what you have even by a little, if by lesser means. I'm painting an exteme picture to say it but think of it like spending a lifetime learning/mastering kung fu vs Matrix-style downloading it in seconds. Obviously, this is really stretching it, but the concept is similar. What does your lifetime of discipline mean when someone else obtains it in a fraction of the time? Why bother progressive raiding when we could all just wait til content nerfs or catch up patches? It might not matter to some, and even I seem a bit detached from it myself now, but it doesn't go unnoticed or felt.
As it stands, knowing the pattern now, I still raid, and still want to clear Alex Savage, but my dedication to doing so is nowhere near what I had with Coil. The rewards feel transient, and by the time I might obtain them, the skill requirement might be lifted/eased, or easier alternatives will be in place. Then there's the relic too. I WANT to beat Thordan Ex, I WANT those weapons, but there's still my Eso wep, and the coming relic, both more than likely to be of a higher item level/more useful. Thus motivation takes a huge hit.
I see what you mean, but I dunno....AS still has some of the best targeted gear for your class, an exclusive 215 weapon, and an exclusive Mount. Besides, completing A1S-A4S will almost certainly be required to progress in A5S-A8S, so the people completing stuff this time around will get an early advantage in 3.2. So the Raiders still get lots of benefit until 3.2. This is the nature of the game and catch-up patches, as you recognize. Raiders' hard work and exclusive gear only lasts a few months or so, as opposed to the "lifetime" of kung-fu.
Savage is just something they've thrown in to keep people playing while they take 5 ages to come with a worthwhile update. It's just catering towards the elitists and it's not even a part of the game most people would bother with, because you can just play the normal version. Only the elitists are like: "Omg, I need to be i9000 before others!!!"
I thought hardcore raiders raided because they liked it? All I'm seeing here is "I'm no longer a special snowflake!", and would like to point out that: yes, you're still just as much a special snowflake as you were before. The gear dropped in savage still proves that you've done savage. No more should be needed for you to feel special really. Being upset over the fact that not everyone except the few hardcore raiders are no longer bellow 200 seems pretty petty to me. Especially since the game got way bigger issues right now as it is. Classbalance, recycling of content, the grindfest that is diadem and so on...
Well the best follow-up is why do people prefer to do hardcore content over normal? Is it the challenge or the shiny's? How can SE draw a line to please both groups without screwing one or the other? If you recall Hunts had the same debate and complaints when they decide to have upgrade items added to it in the catch up patch.
I really have to throw this out there because I've read every post on this thread and only one single other person has agreed with me on this: A3S is, hands down, the best fight this game has seen so far. It is the perfect balance of mechanical and damage required difficulties, closely beating T12. It absolutely annoys me that so many people, especially top end-game raiders don't appreciate how well designed that fight is.
Now, let's talk about Alexander. The problem with this raid and why so many people hate on it stems from the fact that a story-mode (Alexander NM) was introduced. That was a horrible idea and something that SE should never repeat. The story mode did nothing more than burn out raiders much quicker than they would have because almost everything in the normal raid was present in the savage one. From the music, to the loot aesthetics, to the actual fundamental mechanics, the fights just seemed uninteresting and wore players out completely due to boredom. If story-mode Alexander didn't exist, the charm the raid has would have been more prominent. Yes, A1, 2 and 4 are terrible fights, but they still added new dimensions we haven't seen before even with Coil (placing the adds under the beams, using the gobwalker, royal pentacle hold the cheese). Unfortunately, they already talked about possibly adding yet another difficulty with the new raid in 3.2, so we'll see what happens as we get closer to that.
With regards to Diadem, I'm just going to be honest here and say that I don't mind it, in terms of having something to mindlessly grind. In terms of gear and the frequency at which it drops (even after the latest nerf), it is absolutely stupid. I don't mind there being something that could potentially drop items just as good as Gordian gear in terms of stats, which requires a bit of grinding to obtain. But that's it. Just as good, not better. Reddit Photoshop masterpieces aside, I've personally seen some atrociously good pieces drop in Diadem, that make Esoteric and Gordian gear look like Neverreap loot. It just shouldn't work that way. I'm all for people playing the catch-up game and getting on the same level raiders have been on for months, but to exceed that level by setting yourself on auto-pilot for 90 minutes isn't the way to go. The only reason I would join a Diadem party these days is to save up spoils for materia which will be needed in 3.2.
I understand the majority of this game's player base are casuals (I don't mean that in a bad way; not everyone has the time or skill to tackle end-game content), but for SE to undermine one group's content to appease another's is unjust. End-game is called that for a reason, it's something you do as a challenge, something you take time to figure out and complete in order to get the best items the game has to offer. To completely make all that irrelevant by adding a grind method that can provide players with better gear (regardless of the RNG factor involved) is killing content for these players. In the weeks leading up to 3.1, I was excited about the patch, and I made my peace with Void Ark giving players a weekly token that can be exchanged for a coat or twine (personally speaking, it was too soon for the twine, and I had hoped you'd at least need 2 of them per twine). But then I read that hunts would be another method of getting these items and I was immediately let down. A few days after the patch I ran into a player with full 210 Esoteric gear, bar the weapon and it hurt, because they had never step foot in Alexander savage. Still, I accepted it. So is the way of the odd patches and I don't mind it. What I do mind however is players having access to gear that trumps raid gear, and devalues the whole idea of raiding in the first place. Casual players will retort by saying "raids should just be there for the challenge, nothing more". Well the same could be said to you about end-game gear. Apart from savage, and maybe Thordan, there is no other content in the game that would require players to have BiS gear. So why would you need gear that is better than what raids have to offer?
In summation, the game needs to have different tiers of difficulty. Players need to be okay about not being able to enter or complete content that is too difficult for them. It's just like high school: you have math and AP calculus (or core and extended). You don't have to take the harder subject, but if you do you'll be rewarded by being accepted into select programs. There is always a reward for something you have to invest more time and effort into, and you can't expect to be given the same reward just because you pay the same subscription fee. Diadem needs to be reworked in many ways, but for starters gear needs to be equal to or lower than raid gear, not better. And story-mode has to go. I wouldn't mind them giving players access to viewing all the cut scenes X-weeks after the first clear of a raid, but to have a dummy version of the actual raid is not the way to go about it.
Just a few counter key points. First I don't consider raids hardcore content; Void Ark, Alex:N, and Diadem are raids but just geared for the casual crowd over hardcore. Challenge doesn't equal end game in my opinion but lets not get hung on word play.
Second lets talk about Alexander. I would concede that SE needs to have Normal and Savage unlocked at the same time and needs to be done with 3.2. After that it's all on the players, they can chose to run either Normal or Savage for their Alex experience. If they want to "peek at their present" then they can't be pissed when they find out what they got. Also I would even say have the appearance of Savage armor be slightly better than normal.
Honestly the only real reward for Alex:Normal was cool glamour gear and experiencing the story line which is want casual players cared but it was enjoyable for the experience and I would even wager it made some people want to try harder content. To remove that is foolish.
The gear arguments boil down to hard core raiders feeling that they can only feel motivated if their rewards are exclusive. Raiders need to be separated from the unwashed masses - can't have the help driving a BMW! What would they say at the club?
This is a seriously unfair argument that I've seen pop up alot on threads here and on reddit. Lets look at it logically instead of with the large rock of salt between our teeth shall we? Note, I don't raid on this game nor have much interest in it but I have raided in the past. If top end raiders truly only cared about their rewards being exclusive then once all world firsts are cleared they would collectively give up because their snowflake is occupied.
The issue is not so much that "oh hey the help has the same car as the employer" but "the employer worked for years to get to where they are that they can afford to have that car and the help happened upon an even better car when they decided to put them in the dollar store". Its the fact that hours spent learning and bashing their heads against this particularly unenjoyable (if you go by the opinions of the majority) set of raids to get gear that's worse than what the average non-raiding Joe can pull with one day of camping in a mob of people farming Diadem. BiS gear should be reserved for the hardest content, nearly 98% super close gear can be in whatever catch up bundles you want but why work for the best when the true best comes from doing things that take barely any effort? That's the problem many have with Diadem right now.
I had someone today in a party bragging about a clearing A4S, wearing 9 pieces of Diadem gear. It was funny to read.
I'm almost inclined to say that everyone (including me) playing this game takes it for granted. Then I remember we're all paying subs, and we should actively shape the game we want.
To be fair though, I've played my fair share of MMORPG, and I have to say that the raiding in FFXIV is far better in a lot of regards. It requires a ton of teamwork, and that's a good thing. It could definitely be toned down a little, because it's almost in excess at this point, but still. A lot of MMORPG's that are out now have a lot of people soloing half the content in the game, even if it's new content.
We've also got better drop situations than other MMO out there. Don't get me started on pretty much ANY Korean (aka all other) MMO's that have literal less than 1% drop rates for materials to craft raid tier gear. Raid gear that can then break when you upgrade them to be actually viable.
We got it sort of good. It does need work, but it isn't all bad.
I knew the token system was going to ruin the game the day I learned about it in 2.0.
The token design has resulted in a game where the bulk of the content is trivialized by constantly overgeared players, out of control power creep, lots of bosses 'hard mechanics" that primarily just ignore player gear and a situation where developers actually believe glamour as the primary reward for endgame content is perfectly acceptable.
Even if .. the Alexander "glamour" is probably the least wanted in the game ever since. I rarely see people using that ugly equip, maybe only after a server first to brag a bit ...
The reward/difficulty curve for content is just totally ridicolous now ... Dungeons (185) to Alex (190) to Void Ark (200) to Alex Savage (210) to Diadem (210 with better stats) ...
I hoped Diadem would improve the game or be just "not fun", but imho it's the worst of Atma farming and fating/hunting together ... zombie gameplay that nets the best equipment in the game
Just cause it stinged me ...
What a ridicolous argument ... i don't want to level to 60 but i want the best gear!Quote:
You can't say you don't need BIS because you don't raid, I don't do raids I don't do static but I still want BIS.
The way it is right now they could just delete all the attributes, resistences etc. from players and gear and just give everybody the same (tbh it's not that we have any big options right now ....) from the start. Then we only do content for the sake of it or for glamour.
technically, no one ever "need" BiS gear.
Why would you need it? to beat the content that drop said gear?
PS: glamour IS true end game :P
BiS gear only works as BiS gear if there's a harder content that doesn't give gear but just achievements, vanity stuff etc etc that doesn't actually influence gameplay.
so basically something like coil savage.
content that is basically there just for the challenge and bragging rights where you need the best gear from other current content to actually have a chance to beat.
I'm not going to comment on the whole gear situation, as I'm afilthycasual and the number of fucks I give is 0.
But I do agree that the Alex story is really bad. Love the music, and I like the design of the areas and the fact that there's a story mode so I can experience it, but the story itself has a whole heap of issues, that the release of the Void Ark has made painfully clear.
Seriously, the core story for the Void Ark and Alexander is mostly the same. "Oh no! A dangerous place appeared, lets golootexplore it before the bad people do!". But the Void Ark is far more entertaining:
- It's characters are better (in that it actually has characters, unlike Miss Scarred Waifu who's a non-event)
- The 'tension' is better (the Void Ark TORE A GIANT HOLE IN SPACE TIME, Alex just punched a shoreline)
I'd go on, but a 1000 character limit? wtf. So yeah, the story is my only complaint about Alex. Hopefully the Part 2 story is improved.
part 2? pfftt they should just scrap the whole entire thing and get back to the drawing board. But as usual they will release part 2 still keep to the same boring story because its all they have they will try distract us in 3.2 with meldable tome and raid gear making people go into diadem for spoils to buy materia oh and a long relic grind.
3.2 please look forward to it. This game is gonna sink faster than the titanic if they keep this up but here is hoping there will actually be some improvements.
The OP has nailed it on all counts. I continue to sub to both XI and XIV...however, I will be letting my XIV sub lapse, since I haven't logged in in quite some time... my personal reasons are as follows: 1) Crafting, since it has taken such a hit, I don't even gather anymore; I use to enjoy leveling all of them, even specializing, but now, its not worth the time, since no gil can be realized due to the recent changes SE implemented. 2) The content, as the OP noted, is recycled.. it's not fun. I was "not" pleasantly surprised in the two most recent dungeons to see the mechanics were well.. familiar... to the point that I lost interest. 3) I'm actually having more fun in XI over XIV due to the fact that I can spend quality time with my "relic" weapon... XIV doesn't have a relic... the Zodiac "started" as an idea of a relic, but devolved into a let's make everyone happy and put folks on equal footing regardless of when you start the game... this may work from a business standpoint in terms of bringing in new people...but for your loyal folks that maintained a steady subscription and who wanted a "real" relic (FFXI'esque)..this was very disappointing. I've now downloaded and spending quality time in the F2P Elder Scrolls which I'm actually enjoying due to it's lore... so until I see something worthwhile come back to XIV, I don't think I'll be reactivating my subscription anytime soon.... I'll miss everyone though, for it has been a cool run, up until a little after 3.0. 4) Story. 2.0 story was cool.. 3.0 started strong... and so far, has been really...well kinda boring, so much so, I haven't even done any of the quests recently released in 3.1... not happy at all. I hope the Devs are taking in this feedback... I'd hate to see the game start out so strong only to fall because of continuous missteps that were not addressed when the opportunities presented themselves.
Peace!
I'm enjoying myself if you ask me :) I just basically GET ON WITH IT rather than complaining about this subject over and OVER again.
I enjoy Diadem and even though I haven't had much of a chance to test savage it seems fun.
Move on and enjoy the game....
I wish the arguments between "casuals" and "better than casuals" would just end. Seriously. No one is better than anyone else simply because they raid or they do not. I couldn't care less about raiding in this game due to the difficulty in setting up a static, the time investment aimed at doing something that sounds by all accounts to be anything but fun, the rewards not being worth that and the vitriol of players who raid versus those who do not. I would have liked to, but having read enough here on the forums and had enough experiences in the game, I won't set foot in there unless it's with all very close friends. This somehow makes me a lesser class of player? And SE wonders why so few even try it?
Everyone has the same chance to have the best gear in the game, except what was the best gear, the Gordian set, was locked behind skill (mostly) and now Diadem focuses more on the beloved RNG to distribute rewards. Still, in any of these cases, any player has and has had the same chance to get the item; just that the majority of the playerbase will never get to it through Savage because the percentage of people who bother with that content is in the single digits (A4S). So, in reality, right now, in this patch, gear is more evenly distributed among the playerbase because even those who don't have the skill required for Alexander have at least a chance at that ilvl through another mean. Quit your whining; you, the hardcore player, are nothing more than another 12.95 and have EXACTLY the same rights as any of the other accounts in this business.
I would like to point out that NO ONE, not a single player in this game NEEDS the drops from Diadem. If you are still unable to beat A4S after your group has been i200+ for idk how long you should consider raiding Void Ark instead of Gordias. Just saying.
I do agree, though, that the recycling should stop. The content tiers of instances got boring even before the expansion. I understand it saves a great deal of resources while providing somewhat new content, but there should be a limit. I'm actually expecting something like New Dungeon A + Dusk Vigil (Hard), New Dungeon B + Sohm Al (Hard), New Dungeon C + Aery (Hard), etc. Hoping I'm wrong...
I just want to say I love you lol. It's so true having better gear won't make you a better player, especially in raids. Either you have the skill or not.
So what if someone got great gear from something you don't want to do. How does that effect you clearing your raid? You cleared something hard and have to skill to do it. Your consolation prize is Savage gear. No one can get that gear unless you beat it. You don't even need it because you already beat it with out. The only thing higher level gear affects right now is your ego. Nobody needs this gear, it just makes us feel good when we wear it lol
SN- I raiding and improving my skills but like the other posters said it's not worth it because you can't find enough people willing to do it. Hell no body even wants to do Ravana or Void Ark. Back in the day people did the old primals and towers all the time. If you can't get people to do those then it's nearly impossible to form a static for Savage. Coils were fun to learn and you felt accomplished from beating it whether you got gear or not
Fixed that for ya and it's a total crap reward for a fight that only a fraction of the 1% can do.
It so easy to tell people who have raided a4s who have not. You're obviously not a person who has raided a4s. You speak from ignorance and you should try a4s for yourself before making crappy statements. Speaking as a person who has beaten yoshida's crazy moby dick styled whale hunt of a fight (a4s), I can tell you it is one of the worst designed fights I have ever raided in. You know how many people have cleared a4s worldwide before 3.1? Hmm? Do ya? It was around 3k, world wide.
That is less than 0.1% of the player base. So players that climb that mountain, but might be a percent or two behind the enrage deserves nothing better than mindless raiding* in void ark and alex normal? Get outta here, you make as much sense as an igloo in the desert.
I rather please players like the OP. People who actually contribute to this game's community and the out-of-game resources for other players. Let's face it, casual players are much less likely to bring the same substance to the community as a very dedicated player. It's all good though, lets keep driving any talent or quality players away from this game. This patch and the last patch have been train wrecks in the end game community, but people like you don't care about that. It's all about you and your sense of entitlement wanting everything for a fraction of the effort.
I know we are saving resources with all the recycling... but this is nuts. Option to color your gear should not be considered reward - it should be normal. (Cash shop dyes in subscription based game are total facepalm - better dyes in most games drop in harder content).
The developers should seriously consider making savage gear unique... or at least create light version and full version of gear sets. Something like a robe in normal and the same robe but plated in savage. Stronger characters usually wear stronger looking gear.
Not only have I not tried A4S. I haven't any of the Savage turns; because I'm not interested. How would me raiding or not be relevant to my point?
If at this point you are still trying to finish Savage you are not hardcore; the OP is referring to the hardcore section of the playerbase. If you are among those who push for world clears and that sort of stuff, the hardcore base, then I say it again, you should reconsider your approach to FFXIV.
Yoshida: Yes! Let's definitely keep developing to those 0.1% of players you just mentioned and leave whatever time we can spare to the 99.9%. I'm sure the board of directors will give me a huge Christmas bonus from the killing numbers we'll make in revenue!
Grow up.
If I may ask, what would make you interested in the savage? Because that's the most important question. Casuals need way more motivation than hc raiders to try something hard.
Developing content for only small portion of the playerbase isn't wise... but you can develop content for the hardcore raiders and at the same time make it appealing enough for the casuals, even though it would take them longer to achieve their goals.
Er. That person stated that they thought A4S was terribly designed. How does this even make sense in that context?
Bad example. Politicians set laws for and govern everyone, including non-politicians, so being interested in politics is reasonable. Raiders and non-raiders really don't have that same interaction. A better example would be someone that only watches football telling a college quarterback that he's not good enough for the NFL so he should just hang it up and go play PeeWee football instead.
In this thread: People don't believe that hard yakka should wield a greater payoff, and are entitled to the best by putting in minimal effort.
Ahhhh, we certainly are a world in decline. Luckily for you lot Yoshi seems to agree.
Because you need to be a pro to say the truth on something?
Then I guess to you every movie is good, every food is delicious, and every athlete is good enough to make it to the pros.
He may not raid savage, but you know what he said is true about not needing diadem gear to clear savage.
Unless all those clear stats before 3.1 are fake.
Unless of course the problem you have is with a non-raider saying the truth.
