Sounds like he just doesn't like MMO's (or just doesn't want to pay for one).
the FFXIV 2.0 pick looked sweet, the way i see it i'm going to take a break til the 2.0 free trial and then give it a shot. To the OP yeah read all you want, form an opinion before you play it but I say don't knock it til you try it, the FFXIV 2.0 will have a FREE trail period so just play it and then see what you think.
You think Summoner would be the only pet class? What about Beastmasters? What if they add Puppetmasters? Are you going to get pissy every time they add a new class that encroaches on your "territory"? You're making assumptions about how things are going to be based on a few lines in a PDF and a fake screenshot of a hypothetical game. Use your head.Quote:
Yeah, that's fine. Of course there's going to be people of your class, but the situation I was referring to was a small group of friends. If we all start the game as different classes, and all do the same thing, what was the point of being different classes? If we're all different classes, and I'm the summoner, but everyone gets a pet... don't you think I'd be bummed?
I just wanted to point out the bolded part, because it's so hilariously divorced from reality. Having some random dude come up and help you with a quest was so beyond rare that you'd have better luck finding the mythical unicorn than having one of these altruistic souls descend from on-high to aid you in your quest to kill Defias bandits. Most of the time, if you saw someone come out of nowhere like this, his name was red and you were kissing dirt before you even realized that you just got one-shot. He'd then trot away on his wolf or fly off to parts unknown, because that's what high levels fucking do in that game in-between resource nodes.Quote:
The game took a lot of the community feel from the game. Forming groups, talking to people, and all that... while it was annoying at times, it was interaction. Running to dungeons, meeting people on the way, helping people out with a random quest you see them having trouble with... all of that. Dungeon finder is just warp to dungeon, warp back to where you were. You don't travel, you don't seem anyone anywhere. We all just sit in town and press the dungeon finder button to happiness, playing with people on OTHER servers, rarely meeting people on our own.
The same can be said with meeting people; most of those people wanted to kill you. And they were waiting at the dungeons too. And if you met friendlies, you didn't give two shits about them, nor they two shits about you, because they just wanted to summon their friends and get the dungeon started, and so did you.
In short, your past is living in a fantasy version of World of Warcraft, not the actual World of Warcraft.
Those things are not the same as striking up random convos. A random convo is someone running up to you and basically going "Hi! You don't know me, but let's talk anyways!" like some fucking creeper. If I see people shouting to each other, I'm allowed to interject because it's a public conversation. If I need to talk to a crafter, it's because we're conducting a business transaction. If there's a group doing the same things I'm doing nearby, I can ask them if I can join them because we have similar goals. While we can possibly make friends out of any of the above scenarios, none of them is the kind of random conversation that the other poster was alluding to.Quote:
I was just in a JP group that I asked to join while they were grinding. They were cool with it. I see people talking in Ul'dah out loud to others... I could chime in and become friends with said person. I could try to find someone to craft something for me, and ultimately become friends with said person. All of this interaction exists on my server and has happened.. to me, at least.
Yes, but negative feedback has to be based upon something that's tangible and real. Your fear of everyone having chocobo attack pets is baseless because it's based on little to no information. Your reaction to the Content Finder is baseless because it's based off of a fantasy version of the most popular MMO on the market, where apparently everyone interacted with each other openly and people weren't dicks or elitist pricks until the EVIL DUNGEON FINDER was added to the game and destroyed this utopia community that everyone was a part of. Your reaction to achievements might have weight, but is ultimately pointless because it's mandated by one of the platform holders if SE wants to sell their product on that platform.Quote:
What exists can be improved... them saying they're going to implement something that is bad leads me to give negative feedback in an attempt for them to change or remove it before its implementation. I'm not sure if I can think of any time dumps in game right now besides faction credits, and maybe spirit-bonding. Crafting and gathering take a long time, but it's a different playstyle.
And you can't think of ANY timesinks currently in-game? Try the big one: the fucking grind, and how there's very little to do in the game aside from a couple of dungeons and a fight against Ifrit, who apparently got turned into a mindless flame demon in this game instead of the intelligent man-beast flame god that he was in past games. Seriously, there is fuck all to do in-game until they can actually accomplish this 2.0 release.
I see a few systems that are similar to other MMOs in the genre, yes. But I do not see them turning the game into WoW. Seems to me you're having a rather hysterical and very emotion-driven knee-jerk reaction to it.
I mean put it this way... FFXI copied a lot from other MMOs of its time as well... but it implemented them in a way that made them unique to FFXI.
I'm not crazy about all dungeons being instanced... always makes the content seem "cut off" from the rest of the world to me... but then, so was Dynamis and Assaults and BCNMs and so forth in XI. So it's a compromise I'm not crazy about, but I'm also not going to go crazy about.
Achievements I'm rather ambivalent about. I don't hate them but I don't "get" what the big deal is about them either. If people want to obsess over letting something like that drive their gameplay then, hey... more power to 'em. It's something they enjoy. In a sense, FFXI also had an "achievement" system of its own in its Titles system. So this is merely an expanded version of that...
Of course, if you aren't happy with the updates and feel it will ruin the game for you, then simply opt not to subscribe when they instate subscriptions. Great thing about games is that you don't have to play the ones you don't like.
I, for one, am very happy about these updates/changes.
Edit: Okay... one update about something I didn't see before: NOT happy at all about the cross-server grouping. Ugh. That right there could destroy any sense of each server having its own community and remove any sense of accountability for players' actions if they choose to be douchebags or essentially "troll" a dungeon group.
In the current setup where each server is a discrete world, if you're a douchebag, your name gets around and your douchebaggery eventually catches up with you. In a shared world scenario where people can be randomly selected from across all worlds? Nope. You can safely act however you want and even if you're booted, the chances of ever being matched again with the same people is very low. Your accountability is zero.
That part right there is a huge setback for me personally. In the time I played WoW and did the cross-world dungeon matching, I saw it happen time and again.
Hopefully there will be enough people looking to form groups outside of that system to still get around it and I won't have to deal with it.
So while the update is, by far, mostly positive and it's not going to stop me from playing... the cross-server setup is a huge negative for me.
Again, hopefully I can find enough people to circumvent and not have to deal with it.
It boggles my mind to think that people can find fault with this.
Saying the UI doesn't look like a FF game, well it looks pretty much like FFXIII to me.
I can quite honestly say that there was not one bit of information I read (and I read it all) that I didn't like.
Instanced Dungeon (awesome), cross server dungeon finder (awesome, i can actually do stuff now instead of shouting for an hour in town), UI (looks awesome), mannequin system (awesome).
I could go on all day !!
Not sure if the guy in the OP is serious or not.. But the only thing I can think of right now is how much I will be working next year and how little time I will have to play /sadface. Everything mentioned looks amazing, and personally I would have paid to play in 1.18.
Brb reading the planned changes over and over, way too excited right now lol...
that UI is one of the worst looking things I have ever seen, what is with having UI vomitted all over your screen being considered good in the MMO space while offline games have been moving towards minimalism.
It is completely possible to give necessary information while providing a UI that is sleek and doesnt cover 50% of your screen
and dungeon finder is awful and should be throw on the chopping block now
I'm probably done until FFXIV reaches this patch, I'll give it one more try since this will be the full realization of the direction the game is going, if it lives up to my fears then I won't stay
(enjoy your good riddance posts)
also don't get me wrong there is a lot of good in there, just the backbone scares me
I don't play or follow WoW but i have a few friends that do. I believe WoW is/has solved the cross-server grouping problem.
Probably not 100% exact, but it's along these lines (i'm sure one of you here know more about it).
They have a system that only allows you to gain loot a specific # of times through cross-server group search, and then you have to group with players on your server if you want to continue on with it.
Just cause we have dungeon/raid/group finder, doesn't mean we have to let it ruin the game, like it did WoW. Now's the best time to toss suggestions out for SE.
ok knee jerk reaction aside (though I still stand by the last post) dungeon finder I think would work as long as it isnt cross server, community is a huge reason a lot of people play MMOs and constantly playing with random people you won't see again is not good for that, however being able to quickly group with people from your own server would help community
confirmation of a real auction house is good
multi party alliance system confirmed, that makes me quite happy, I love large scale content
PvP that isnt open world, also really good if implemented correctly
Companies sound great, as well as player housing.
wandering Odin is also nice, good to know SE isnt ignoring open world content, this is one of the most relieving pieces of news to me
so I'm still really nervous due to wordless content and that vomit UI screen, if mods can fix that when they open it up and wordless content doesnt kill any chance at community then this may be amazing, if not, I still play XI
If you are going to condemn FFXIV because of a single picture then CYA! You wont be missed and you will be forgotten fast! Lol
I thought it looked pretty amazing.
i took another look at the image and I stand by that number, look at everything, player names popup damage numbers and cure numbers, healthbars over character heads and in your party menu, giant micro menu bars of abilities chat log minimap giant enemy healthbar, whatever is under the minimap, whatever is in the bottom right corner including what looks like a freaking Gil count, why do we need to know our gil at all times, thats as useless as the current always shown XP bar, the word Enemy above the action bars, thats pointless, the word full party(useless in current UI as well)
its just WAY too much
besides the UI and the wordless dungeon finder though this is definitely intriguing
You ever think that maybe this is an improvement? As much as I dislike World of Warcraft, it did do some things right. An MMO shouldn't play like it was made in the late 90's... In this gaming age, stuff like this is standard for a reason. Ever wonder why iPhones are so popular? They're accessible...like games should be. You can add all the content you want, but if the game is obnoxiously clunky (see: XIV combat, XIV UI, XIV everything), people will be turned off.
PLEASE DELETE THIS POST! AND DELETE THIS UNKNOWN PLAYER, THANK YOU
The reasons you "hate" the possible changes so much are so insanely stupid I actually can not even start discussing them.
You act like WoW is the only other MMORPG out there. SE is not copying WoW.
Every single MMORPG has crow control, some kind of auction house system, PvP, player housing, add-ons and multiple mounts.
Even FFXI had add-ons, those were maybe not official, but they were there.
Am I the only one who noticed that after having logged off and given up on the game, Crevox proceeds to talk about FFXIV some more?
Maybe he just doesn't like MMOs...
I am surprised it took till page 9 for someone to mention that FFXIV has already had an achievement system. you get a quick message you rarely notice in game of achieving it but look up your character on lodestone and all your achievements are there for all to see... too add 300 more is a pretty cool idea considering ALL the new content coming in.
So having people access content on their own time is a bad thing? Certainly helps out the 'dead' servers and those 'casual' players that people hate so much on the forums.Quote:
Dungeon finder
Hey Dr. Derp we already have this... achievements are on the lodestone right now just not tracked in game. How does this make the game worse in any way?Quote:
Achievement system
Oh man add-ons this completely ruins the game, WoW clone omg end of days! Customizing the game and having useful things and player added mods is going to be cool. Not sure how this ruins the game either...Quote:
In-game addons
Market wards are a hassle, we all know this. They function, that's for sure but are not ideal in any way shape or form. I'm glad to see an AH and guess what this was in many games before WoW, f*ck even FFXI had an AH. How does this ruin the game... this game isn't "Buy and Sell Money Madness XIV" it's Final Fantasy XIV; the game isn't centered around Market Wards or AH.Quote:
Auction house
Ok? We already have them, FFXI had them, WoW has them, most games have them. It allows them to create a unique area and add a ton of design elements. I just don't understand why this is bad. What do you want?Quote:
Instanced raids
Last time I checked WoW hardly utilizes the CC system and you just zerg aoe everything down. That's one reason I stopped playing that game.Quote:
Crowd control system
So variety is bad? I don't get how this ruins the game or makes it a WoW clone. Though I guess it would be unique if we only had 1 mount type. Heck even FFXI had different color chocobo's, so I don't understand your gripe with this.Quote:
Multiple mount types
I'm not a huge fanboi and I'm certainly excited, I'd like to understand how you feel this is "bad" for the game other than your response "this es W0W cl0nE".
I do not understand this why? You rather wait for a party for hours like ff11? You rather have to choose from a server with a couple thousand then all servers with tens of thousands? Why do you want to seek a party for hours then get a party fast?
FF11 killed everything. this is nuthin but win. Please tell me why this is bad other then it being like WoW. People will try to steal stuff even on the same server. Different servers will not change that.
makes ZERO sense.
So the people replying to utterly silly en retarded posts are the bad guys, but people rage quitting about some announcement are not? Nice logic you got going there.
Yes, I agree the forums are just like WoW forums, mainly because of the /cry topics of people that act like they are 3 years old that just dropped their candy.
I imagine you will be able to turn off character health bars above their head, most of what you mentioned is already in the game.
We have a micro-menu, we have a mini map, we have party menu whilst grouped up, im guessing the grid in the bottom right corner is inventory space.
I won't be surprised if they give us full control over the elements we can display and remove, they are adding addons so i imagine we can customise it however we want.
ITT the OP confuses advances in the GENRE of MMORPG to "copying WoW and other MMOs".
Sorry buddy I just don't have much sympathy atm given your reasoning.
WOW, i really like the 2.o highlights. See what i did there
So adding dozens of modern-mmo systems to the game is somehow bad?
Things like dungeon finder and achievements are systems which serve to make the game more robust and enjoyable. They're both completely optional - adding these to FFXIV literally can ONLY enhance your experience. Why are you bitching about them revamping the game and adding features which are obviously useful and desired? v2.0 is everything this game needs to be success.
Haha.
Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. See ya.
Apparently these days having a user-friendly MMO means you have a WOW clone. So I guess that's bad or something.
Wow, really?! the changes look fantastic. I'm not sure what you've been smoking OP, but lay off it, it's clearly giving you brain damage.
Did you not see the concept image of that battle with the 3 headed dragon? How does that look like WoW?
You are officially retarded because that picture looks F***ing great. That's the game I've been waiting for and can't friggin wait.
I hope some people will read this and this is just to inform people, That is a Chimera not a dragon. ^.^ but yes 2.0 looks sweet and I am willing to play to see the upcoming armeggadon of Eorzea and the reboot!
The game looks too sexy for its shirt, so sexy it hurts D:
I can't wait for the monthly fee if it means no one troll threads like this.
