Much less seen the size of the bore on MCH guns. Even the lalafell MCHs are firing unreasonably large calibers with little effort. But hey, most of the martial stuff in this game makes no physical sense.

Could be the design of the gun having less recoil.
We don't know the extent of the gun technology in Eorzea only that Eorzea Gun technology began with Blacksmithing in Limsa Lominsa and since then advanced over time.
Machinist also have access to unique ammo due to their Aether pack they carry around. Something about the Aether Pack being adjusted to manipulate Aether so it can generate the Machinist's Drones and Ammo providing them unlimited supplies. So what kind of ammo the Aether Pack creates may also factor into the low recoil.
Not to mention the ammo on the Aether Pack looks like shotgun shells.
what kind of strength are we talking about here?
magical, physical?
what do we use as measurement? scale of destruction? raw damage? number of victims?
But does a MCH sing while in the midst of battle to rally their allies??? That's some hard stuff to do while dodging attacks and aiming with a bow! xD
I say most likely SMN with the DoTs + Bane(if battle royale) + egi + channeling the power of the elder primal bahamut himself.
though whoever wins in the end might have different results. after all we have DRGs who can jump long distances, NINs with shukuchi, BRDs, MCHs. those 4 can probably take out all those high powered casters in an instant.
raw damage is usually held by casters, though vulnerability during casting is a pretty big weakness.
400 heal physicks... I'd say astrologian, Nocturnal Benefic does everything they need to survive while dotting the enemy to death.
strongest i would have to say whm or blm
whm because the strongest white mages could apparently do whatever they wanted with the life stream.
blm because not only could one of them travel though alternate dimensions (Shantotto). but if they can bring meteors down. im certain the ones who are pushing it to the absolute limits can bring down something a little bigger. (plus the ones we bring down now though the limit break would possibly be world ending if one of that size didn't burn up in the atmosphere and hit)
runner up would be smn. though they dont have the world ending power the other 2 have. they have (limited) power over primals and the ability to gather up enough aether to kill lesser Ascians.
lol you guys are arguing which class is stronger currently in game while OP asked lore wise...
I would say blm, i mean fire and ice should be more power then physical attacks no? Using power of nature and all
I would say that the strongest job, lore wise, would be tied between Summoner and Dark Knight.
The SMN job consists of summoning and controlling aether to form primal-egis. That's pretty amazing on its own, but the later quests actually delve in to mastering Allagan secrets and the SMN actually takes out Ascians alone.
The Dark Knight job has The Abyss. Which, according to the lore, is an almost infinite fount of power at their disposal. However, taking in too much of the dark power will consume their humanity. Think of them like The Hulk, where they probably have no limits on their power. However, drinking too much of that power is probably dangerous to them and everyone around them. I think this is why the lore states that the Dark Knights must control their Dark Side at all times.
I haven't played through the DRK quests but, so far as I know, it's a tie between WHM and BLM, since they're essentially two branches of the same mage type. They have the power to manipulate aether at will, and that's literally the fabric for everything we see in FFXIV. And some can do it better than others, as we see in the CNJ storyline.
As for the weakest, I would argue that it's either MCH or AST. MCH does use aether, but it's limited by the technology that you have. Most of your strength comes from an attachment and a turret, and I'm not sure how well the aetherotransformer you carry can actually, well, transform aether. I'm sure it has limits on what it can do. I'd have to read the story again.
AST might also be the weakest because you're literally shuffling fate. You're reading what is supposed to happen to someone and attempting to change it, but how it changes isn't always set in stone. Lore-wise, an AST might be able to turn the tide of battle...but there also might not be much that they can do say, in a war setting, since so many people's fates hang in the balance (no pun intended). They might be able to save one or two lives, but not hundreds. BLM's meteors and WHMs raise ability easily trump that.
Dark Knight because the lore says I'm nearing god like powers as the warrior of light and the warrior of light happens to be a Dark Knight
The lack of monk love is real in this thread. Lorewise monks are the strongest job hands down because they basically become god when they open all 14 chakra gates. I rank Black Mage second though because casters in general wield vast amounts of power.
Lore-wise? It just doesn't come up. At all. The jobs out there aren't held by anyone else we know except ourselves, and we have a decided advantage, being the Warrior of Darkness and Light (conjecture there, but ...)
Really guys? People are talking about char str and every 3rd post is "mch have to deal with RECOIL! They strong too bruh!"
Mythril Heart (war) 1v1ed a behemoth by ripping its limbs off with his bare hands. Gtfo with your 'recoil'. Seriously. No one cares about your stupid recoil.
Have you ever thought about reading supplemental material that SE occasionally puts out in interviews and articles? Because that's where the idea that fairies are elementals that you summon from your own essence, like egi, comes from. The only difference is that part of an egi comes from a slice of a primal's essence, which itself is limiting for summoners, because it's only as strong as your own aether is. SCH is doing the same thing; 'summoning' an elemental using their own essence.
Stop by the lore forum sometime.
