To the ps4 players who say that they cant enter the contest because it's for "pc players only"

See you at the finish line, fellow players.
Sincerely, a ps4 player.
Ofcourse, this means I still have to make a twit account......dang it >___<
6 years of avoiding the cesspool....
Ps, my au'ra is more bae than yours.

thats what I did for my cheap PC (which is why I said parts maybe you missed that) but stuff like GPU's arent cheap so when he is saying he built his PC and gets 8k for the same cost of a PS4 (which launched at $400) I am curious what parts and where he got them.
For example my build is i7 3770k (last generation on clearance pricing) CPU is $250 and my gtx 660 gpu (quite old) is $180 that alone is already $430, thats before the RAM PSU motherboard and HDD and I only get just shy of 5k on max.
If for $350-400 I can build a brand new PC that will get that much better performance I am curious as to how so I can look into actually doing it otherwise I find the hyperbole to be a bit misleading which may deter people from even trying to build a gaming PC who feel like they are being ripped off after being told its going to cost $350 and they find out its really 600-700 for an average setup (not even a good setup).
I am not picky about playing on the best settings and I enjoy the game on both PC PS4 and even my tablet and I have no bias between 1 system or the other they all do the same thing.
They probably just over exaggerated. People (shouldn't) be silly enough to believe that a self-built PC is actually in the price range of 400 dollars. The point is, if you have you a PS4, you're clearly not in dire straits. Even if it was just a gift, or whatever, you've got that, and you're paying a sub-fee for the game. That alone can tell someone that you have the money to pay for some access to a PC, whether self-built, store purchased, rented, or otherwise. In this day and age, it's hard to believe some people above 20 don't have a computer (for college/work), but do have a tablet, and a PS4.
I bought a refurbished gtx660 card off newegg for like 100 bucks. The rest was all cheap stuff that was on sale, newegg and ebay are awesome when you are looking for cheap parts. Ebay especially since people are always upgrading their machines and looking to get a little bit of value back for their old parts. I have yet to have a negative experience buying refurbished/used parts off ebay. I believe the total came to like 402.58 or something like that, which was less than my ps4+game+controller was on launch day.
Pretty much. And assembling a computer (as long as you're not doing weird stuff like liquid cooling) is basically just connecting modules... there's youtube videos on it. "Plug and play."
But for those that don't want to dabble with it... Buy a workstation PC, plug in a $100 graphics card, bam budget gaming PC. Or even a $60 card if you don't mind lower graphics settings.
I get that it would require a lot of resources that are best used elsewhere, but it would be lovely if they could have made just a character creation tool we could have downloaded from the PSN store.
We don't need the benchmark as we know its made to play on the PS3/4. It would just be nice to be given the option to play around with the Au'Ra. Or have it patched into the start screen.
My craptop can't run the benchmark which means it can't run the character creator. It's a bit disappointing but what can you do? Like a bunch of other console players I'm just going to have to wait until June to make an Au'Ra. Patience is a virtue that I lack but I'll just have to be for now.
especially because you don't need to run the benchmark, you just need to launch the menu, and go into character creation. People are able to install it and run it to get a result of "Insufficient" so I don't see why they can't download it and run it.
It would be nice if they tossed in the Au Ra to the PS4, even if we can't complete the procss to log into the game with an Au Ra. (Since PS4 Share can directly upload screenshots to twitter . . . ) but they don't. there will be more contests in the future. Don't sweat it so much.
I'm in the same situation... My PC is about 5-6 years old, it cannot support the benchmark for Heavensward... I play on PS4 and was so looking forward to having some fun in creating an Au'Ra. Then I heard about the Twitter campaign. I'm disappointed this is not including us console players, it's just not fair. Now I have to wait until June 23rd to trying the character creator?? Yeah, this hardly seems fair.
The laptop I'm trying to run it on is only two years old. I keep getting the fatal error crap so I've just given up. I'm pretty sure we'll get to play during early access though. That's June 19th I think. Still that's in June and that seems like forever away.
It doesn't need to support the benchmark. It needs to support character creator, which is literally just a character model standing in open space. You can turn it down to lowest settings and run it at 60fps on even the oldest of computers. I ran 1.0's character creator on max, at above 50fps with an integrated laptop graphics card. I can agree that this situation is an inconvenience at best, but nothing at all is stopping anyone from participating in the contest if they're so inclined to.
Barring the obvious complications in the release of a character creation client for PS4, I do hope they can make it happen for next expansion. Even if I still can't understand how people don't have any capable computer in this day and age...
Still trying to figure out exclusive to pc players. Works on Mac too... sorry to ps3 and ps4 players. Kinda upsetting, but the benchmark just ran at work on a machine from 2005 Celeron. Had a 512 mb video card. It scored a whopping 488.. but my point is access to a machine it can run on, is not a problem. Hell, had the wife try on a public access machine in a library. 15 minutes to download, no install, and making her character with 8 minutes after. How lazy are people, I mean you don't have a laptop, or a friend with a pc to make all your entries?
It worked on the two computers you tried. This means it works on EVERY computer!
Um. No. I tried two nights, for hours, trying to get this to run on my laptop. It doesn't work. I have given up and will be waiting until I get the expansion on my PS4 to create my Au Ra girl.
Do you have the newest version of DirectX runtime? If your machine is older or hasn't been updated check these; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/179113
My point is, and btw, it works on a properly working and maintained pc. Hate to break it to you, but what I consider an abused and I'll maintained pc is beating out other people's scores on much better hardware. Maybe it's the fact I work in IT, or maybe it's the fact I was raised to maintain my possessions property etc..... Then again the library systems are not something I own, and generally cheap and older. If it could work there....... Anyone can get a library card, just saying.
Yup, blame the devs for having an outdated 10-year old PC. Console will always be secondary as it requires far too many permissions for it to be worth adding trivial content to. If you can afford a PS4, you sure as heck can afford a cheap laptop that would be able to run the benchmark.
I use my PS4 pretty much only for Netflix. No games worth playing on it, and it's far too limited in general. If you want benchmarks and all the goodies, go sell your PS4 and buy a PC. Consoles are computers with limitations, unbelievable how many people are unable to grasp that.
he doesn't need the newest version of DirectX he needs DX9.0c which is not installed by default. not even on windows XP.
he needs to search for and install the DirectX Runtime Redistributable from June 2010*. that will check his installation and install missing libraries including almost the entirety of DX9.0c on all versions of windows is supports DX9.0e and DX11 on windows 7
*note put a link for the download at the end of this post
there could be many reasons for this
windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 and most OEM prebuilt PCs do not include the DX9.0c/e runtime libraries by default and many people do not know to install them(I don't know why microsoft thought this was a good idea)
even if you don't plan to game on your windows machine you should search for the Directx Runtime Redistributable from June 2010 and install it your PC may very well run the benchmark. also make sure if you are on windows vista you have IE9/10 or 7 you have IE10/11
windows 8/8.1 IE shouldn't be an issue. but it still needs the DX9c/e runtimes.
and to note even most outdated GPUs that are still in use can do DX9c(keyword here being most). simple way to find out if your PC can actually run the benchmark is does it run windows 7? does it run windows 7 with Aero enabled(the minimum for that is a DX9c capable GPU)? if it runs windows 8 the minimum for that is a DX9c capable GPU(anything below doesn't have a WDDM capable driver). if it runs windows vista with aero enabled it has atleast a DX10 capable GPU.
yeah I used to try to tell this to people all the time. ended up giving up because so many people are just too dense to get this simple fact.
the hardware in both the PS4 and XB1 is off the shelf midrange PC hardware with a specialized bios and OS. the only reason both companies decided to go this route is it is easier to support this hardware than specialized hardware.
* DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
I'm a console player as well, but I just downloaded the benchmark, put it on high settings, and prayed my computer wouldn't puff it's last breath, hahaha!
Well I was able to take some good screenshots despite my computer being terrible, so I'm all good.
[QUOTE=Ghishlain;2929839
I\\\\'m not sure how this is a PC exclusive. FFXIV players of all stripes have access to the benchmark as long as they have a PC that can download it. For example, I have a friend who is a PS4 player who was able to download the benchmark on their PC and make an Au Ra using the character creator. Friend in question ran the benchmark for giggles and got an abysmal 1K score, which according to S-E is a rating that is a PC "capable of running the game, but will experience considerable slowdown.
[/QUOTE]You are completely missing the point, which is not everyone who is hyped about the new race has a PC to run the benchmark. The OP never said SE intended to exclude console players but that they never made a way for console only players to participate absent a personal computer. Creating a mobile app could been an option personally.
There was a pc near the dumpster today. I decided to take it to my garage, Intel Celeron running 2 GB of ram on windows XP. Did a reload from its install CD, (which i found in the case and directions I found online. Downloaded a fresh version of the benchmark. Upon running it was prompted to Download DX9. Ran benchmark. score was less than 1k...... Opened character config posted my Screenshot this am. Sorry I don't see what the problem is..... Got this for free and plugged it into an old CRT I had... I bet it run better then I blow the dust out. http://imgur.com/XETaArF
the biggest issue people with PCs that cant seem to run it have is most certainly DX issues. the benchmark sees some of the DX libraries so it does not prompt them to install/update
do a google search for DirectX Runtime Redistributable July 2010 <--running this will update and add the DX libraries needed and will fix most issues.
and holy cripes its a wonder that PC doesnt go up in flames O_O
I'm still getting the DirectX fatal error 1000000. I did what was stated in the above post. It's just refusing to work for me which sucks. I just want to play with the Au'Ra :(
The benchmark is free to download. Twitter is free to sign up for. Unless you're running the benchmark on a toaster, you won't have a problem simply using it to create a character, snap some screenshots, then send your submission for the event.
Even console players have access to this (unless you don't have a PC/laptop/etc. which is kind of crazy in this day and age), so you only have yourself to blame for not participating (not blaming you though, EU guys. That was just a dick move on their part).
That was a Microsoft Surface Pro and while it is a tablet it is essentially a full PC in a tablet shell and they are far from cheap :x You could build a near top gaming PC for the price of one. The only reason I own one myself is because I use it for business travel and to use at work.
