It has been 36 hours since I last tended my onion. Until now, patch is still not yet up. Since my download speed is low, there goes my onion (Already grew 7 days) -_-
Having let plants die on purpose before, I can tell you that it takes 48h for it to die. No water after 24h is the purple mist. If you watered at least a few hours before maint, you should be fine unless you have work. Ask a friend to water it for you.
We've known the patch date for over a week. You could have just NOT planted anything that wasn't harvestable before the patch last week. Also even personal houses can be watered by randoms so you could ask a friend you know will be on to run by your house and water everything for you. If anything the only thing they're guilty of is not saying something sooner about the fact the garden timers keep going. Also the reason the timers keep going is they're tied to the server's internal clock. When the servers come back up they calculate remaining time based on the current system time minus the timer start time.
Yup now it's confirmed. RIP my thav onions, mandragora queens, and curiel roots. You will be missed....
The only way that the maintenance kills a plant is if the plant was already glowing purple (or harvestable) when the maintenance began.
Withered state starts a 24 hour timer to tend the plant. As long as you tend it within that 24 hours, your plant will be fine.
Also, a plant ready to be harvested has its own 24 hour timer. It must be harvested in that time to prevent spoiling.
My plants are safe!
Hello everyone,
Apologies for the long maintenance and making you concerned for your gardens.
In the future there is a possibility that we conduct maintenance for extended periods, and while the plans haven’t been completely fleshed out just yet, the development team is looking into countermeasures so that nothing happens to your gardens during the server down time.
My Jute died :<
I was sure I twnded them before the maintenance ... :(
How about automatically extending our subscription period, for free, by a day when you are conducting maintenance for a 24 hour period. Otherwise, we have literally paid for a day for nothing with our subs.
How about a thank you for all this additional content that was produced in this free patch.

They warned us even before that.
Why not plan accordingly to avoid this? SE gave plenty of time and common sense, at least in my perspective, kind of tells you maintenance periods can be unpredictable at times. They gave plenty of warning, and if players still choose to gamble it should be on them -.-. Sorry if it offends some people, I kind of focus on logical perspectives rather then emotional.
Would be nice if it was adjusted, just pause the gardens or some such. Wont effect players that often but it feels a bit silly. Or.. give me a moogle I can train to keep my stuff from dying.. Oh did I say I want a moogle? :P
We knew this was coming for weeks. My gf finished up the crops she had before maintenance and didn't plant more.
I watered my gardens before servers went down. Logged in to half having withered. I'm actually quite a bit upset. I'd have hoped that gardens would have been frozen or something. Also, apparently, my shared estate setting was destroyed and I had to set it back up to take care of the other section of my crops. No idea why that would happen.
Unfortunately, I didn't have an estate when this was first brought up *looks at the thread date* so I wasn't even really aware it was an issue. I should have known better. For how rare it is to have maintenance take more than 24 hours, that's probably why it's been dropped or forgotten. That and gardens don't wither [read: die] in a span of 24 hours either. Supposedly, in guides they say it takes 72 hours for a garden to die. RIP due to misinformation.
I am sorry about the gardens, yet I am still pleased time has passed if only for my 12 leve allowances (18 by time of log in).
