Really, people complaining that they can't be a tank, white mage, and black mage simultaneously while never running out of mp. It was ridiculous and I'm glad to see these changes introduce challenge back into the game. Now you have to choose to play the role of a healer or damage dealer. They'll balance the MP costs of heals in the future, but 1.18 was a huge step in the right direction. My twisting vice got nerfed too, but I'm not whining about it because I recognize that the skill was overpowered. People who fail to do that with their own classes need to calm down and look at the big picture. Tweaks will still be coming in future patches.

People tend to forget... the reason mages got nerfed was because to make way for the New Job system (and of course make the game more challenging isn't this what hardcore gaming is about?!)... Conjurer & Thm was never the main healer to start off with lol... you guys will forget about these classes when White/black mage & Red mage hits da streets ^^.
Yup the people who want to moan and groan about making the game better will leave and I am happy to see them off. The game took a massive step forward and you have the audacity to say it took a step back? The experience is 100 times more fun I was completely and utterly bored with the game months ago and I was excited to come back and play the game for the first time in a long time. Now the game is actually fun after trying out the R50 dungeon and I am completely happy with what was given to us and being an Archer I enjoy the changes of the class. This game is just finally taken it's first steps into becoming an MMO of today instead of an MMO from 10 years ago.
Am I the only one that thinks "balancing" a game is a completely pathetic idea? Why should a melee and a mage have any of the same mechanics in fighting? People are saying that a caster should be able to go for 30 minutes without having to disengage and gain mana. That isn't what the allure of being a caster is, they are about big numbers at high mana costs. They should be able to do a lot more damage in a short period of time than compared to a pugilist and then get burnt out for a minute or two to gain mana. Melee should do their damage in more consistent intervals with burst damage varying on the type of weapon.
Games like WoW that made casters have infinite mana basically made them a melee class that attack from far away. There is no real diversity. In my opinion, that is where FFXI had it right. A BLM, in an exp party situation, could take off 30% of a monsters HP whenever they wanted but it could cost as much as 20% of their mana.
for all those saying 'put some points in MND', Theres a cap on attributes incase you didnt know. With 146MND my R28 CON only gets 906MP including +MP from my gear
I believe I noticed that Tranquility was 5min timer, could be wrong...
I believe resting MP in passive mode is 15(?) times faster than it was in XI, reason for MP costs and evaluated tactics...
I believe Square Enix's passion of exceptional originality triumphs over Fan-boys' consistent whining for recycled MMO expectations...
I believe Haters 'gonna Hate...
OMG troll thread
Fair patch.
It did some things that were needed, but it also went too far in some areas. Some of the combat changes to skills should have been done piecemeal rather than all at once. IE don't double MP costs right off the bat.
Incremental changes > constantly having to buff and nerf things.
im not totally turned off by the patch, but do taunts of all things need to be on such a long cooldown? ive never heard of taunts taking that long in any MMO before.
I don't see where you get that at all from anything I've said, but I love how it's the default write off.
I'm not talking about THM solo Dodore.
I'm talking about CON standing around Healing when it could be doing 3-4 other things.
How is it overpowered to actually help the fight? How is it "balanced" to stand with my weapon sheathed waiting?
I'm complaining that the so called balance was too much.
Let's break it down. Though I doubt most of you will follow along or care.
Mages need to have more reason to manage MP from near limitless potential of pre-1.18.
So what do we do?
We could 1. Increase the cost of Cure x4 so they can't cast it as often. 2. We could increase the enmity it generates so they stop spamming it. 3. We could take away AOE Toggle so only 1 Mage can Heal well and now it needs 5-6 more actions on the ability bar meaning less Nuke/DOT/whatever else we don't want it doing. 4. We could nerf Siphon MP so mages only ever get back 80-120 (less than a Cure 3) rather than a free refill if they position themselves cleverly.
Ah fuck it! All of the above!
Like Holy Baby Jesus, really? All that? I think any of those might have been fine individually, but all 4?
All they did was make it FFXI all over again. I seen 3 Dungeon groups give up already because they couldn't find a CON or a GLA. Just sitting there 7/8 with no "specialized" job that they feel they need. Cool, huh? Just what we all wanted.
Cannot agree more. MMORPG cannot survive without balancing, and balancing means nerfs. If you can't stand that, single player -> That way.
Having four classes at the cap with easy mode means nothing. What you written demonstrates easily that you have those level 50s just *because* the game was easy mode.
Be glad that you could get what you could while it lasted. Welcome challenge.
yes. All of the above, it was warranted and needed. The game is much more FUN and tense now.
Besides, if you aggro too much by healing, change tank, the one you're working with simply isn't up to par.
Told by you, irony at it's best.
Besides, the mods really should start doing bans by IP.

Anyway, we all know why the trolls and haters are up in arms. Some of them actually bothered to log in on their level 1 characters and saw that there were a ton of people on the servers, having fun. They know they are being slowly but steadily defeated, their negativity dispelled, their continuated efforts to sink the game are ultimately failing. This game is slowly but firmly rolling towards it's renaissance, and they are panicking because there's nothing they can do about it.
There's nothing more delicious than the tears of a hater when facts prove him wrong.
heres what i understand about the dungeons.
THM have no real role since their dots dont last on mobs being pounded on by melee and they are not proficient in curing (thank god). they arent meant for nuking either, so what do they do? just enfeebles? how well do the enfeebles work on the dungeons mobs?
i also heard tanking is harder because taunts are on a rediculous cooldown and cures still generate an unrealistic amount of hate.
There's no reason to bring a THM in Darkhold. I purposely avoid it.
They simply aren't as good, much like CON wasn't as great as THM yesterday.
This isn't balance, people. It's TOO DAMN MUCH.
They should have tweaked things, not gone way the shit overboard.
I'm not on here crying about Emulate recast, or Multishot recast - and yes I have 50 THM & ARC.
Those things were fair game. Anyone who would cry about that must not have played an MMO before.
I'm talking about turning CON into heal-bitch from its previous role of versatile mage.
I would be happy to take on the Job of heal-bitch (aka WHM) but now it's forced on me.
I thought it was pretty clear that Classes would still be "as you pleased" and Jobs would be "defined party roles" but I guess they wanted to jump the gun and ruin a good thing.
im in fact sticking with my THM, i just dont undesrtand what hes meant for anymore.
soloing leves sucks with THM and everyone in game so far says THM isnt really needed for groups.
Wow OP... way to spew a bunch of childish, disrespectful, ego-inflaming slander into the faces of other players. This community certainly benefits from your acrimonious insults.
Couldn't agree more I am loving the difficulty change in this patch well worth it.
People complaining about mp cost need to go get there diaper changed and go sit in the corner till we need you for something. Whats the matter, you actually have to manage mp now and strategically cast?
Awsome post Koga. This update is fantastic.
yes, this community definitely needs to see some of the most whiny undesirables getting told (and the worst ones banned by IP, instead of just letting them make another account).
Mind you, they need that themselves as well, since their obsessed nature is starting to veer towards the insane. They hate this game, yet they can't do what every sane person does when faced with something he hates: move on.
They obviously need help.
As much as I think this patch is a step in the right direction, I can KINDA sympathize with the whole MP cost thing.
45 MP for a Cure I? I mean given how much MP a straight up mage can get, I guess something high, but it could have been like 25 or 30. 45 just seems punishing.
While I don't mind the changes made, the OP is far too abrasive. You could have made the same point without the needless flame-fanning.
totally awesome!
I love this game again. Thank you SE and the developers!
haters gon hate. I think patch 1.18 is awesome dungeons are super fun NICE MUSIC!!! I could stay in there all night! lol.
ps. thx for changing the forest music I don't fall asleep running through the black shroud anymore XD
I love how people equate this to easy mode v hard mode. I played XI and wanted this game to be less casual friendly, mp sinking doesn't automatically do that, its a cheap ploy. I want a legit hard mode, with good strategy, not zerg the mobs down fast before the conj runs out of mp.
