So you are perfectly fine with being removed from any premade with no reason as to why ? Let's face it 99% of the ones who will use this are already using it because they do what needs it. In a premade where it matters it's already being watched in duty finder honestly if the group can't make it chances are over half of them will vote abandon anyway before it even matters. It's just like voice chat, SE doesn't want to add it but groups will still require it. At least you will know why you were removed and can work on improving or if someone tries to get on you you can say look at this tab or that tab I did 3 raises and 20% of the healing and did all this rather than them not telling you anything and you having to guess or them simply eyeballing what people were doing and kicking you because they think you were to low or doing something wrong.

Everyone in the theorycrafting community uses it for "that" (picking apart fight data, bit-by-bit), all the people that have confirmed or debunked possible optimal rotations and CD use times [which goes beyond just DPS and into healing and tanking]. Sure some of it can be done semi-accurately eye-balled or with manual recording, but having access to accurate information in a timely and neat format gets faster and more accurate results. And, what is the result of that knowledge? Other groups or people concerned with their performance due to any number of reasons have access to information confirming or denying what they are doing is the best they can do.

People need practice to get better. I agree that would require a call out or two, but what happens if people see you perform badly once and they decide they'll just blacklist you? It's no longer a fun game.

I personally think that the only folks against DPS meters are the ones who aren't really interested in improving themselves. If they were, then there would be no issue with a meter. I used them in other games to gauge my performance versus what the general consensus was for that ilevel and it helped tremendously. The level of discrimination (i.e. elitists) already exists in game. I see so many PF with just jerkface comments in them and we don't even have meters. Keeping the tools away from the players who want to improve themselves just to spare the feelings of those who don't is a terrible way to approach the situation.

there's always resistance to in game voip because it's a complete waste of resources for something no one will use

DPS meters would ruin the community even further. No thank you, keep meters out of this game.

I would be ok with a personal dps meter, one that shows your own dps, and possibly one that says the value that is highest in the party and possibly the average, but no names. This will allow players to improve, give them helpful information without giving players the oppertunity to put people down over it. There is no reason for the whole party to know who is doing the least damage except to put eachother down. The problem is it's inevitable that we will see scores of "You casual scrub learn to play" otherwise.

What I want is the best of both worlds, and this idea is the best I can think of.

DPS Meter for personal/light/full party or raid please.
More info is always helpful.

If you're ashamed of your DPS, then make it better,
or stay in Mor Dhona glamming more sailor shirts.

Like I've said before I'd rather not raid at all if this is how the community is gonna be in regards to raiding especially as they try and make it more difficult. This is what broke WoW by the end of its second expansion and 2 major patches in it is already breaking the community in FFXIV ARR.

I prefer fun over stress regardless of wipes and loot.

I've seen plenty of other mmos I've tried joining that had people shooting down the idea of adding parsers because of the sort of trouble it causes. Who were then constantly insulted by the very people they were talking about as "bads" or "people who have something to hide" among other more vulgar things which just further proved their point about the trouble of parsers. Just face the facts already. You will NEVER get support for parsers from SE as long as the loud elitist pricks that abuse them continue to cause that negative stigma against parsers. They've already shown their stance about trying to avoid as much elitist drama as possible by disabling whispers in dungeons and giving 30 minute dungeon lock outs for rage quitters.

That is nice and you can do it with a group of the same minded people.
Why does it have to be banned for everyone just because you play the way you do? Does only your way of playing counts?

Let's say they will add in a tool that lets you judge all the stats, so you get removed because you didn't do enough dps. That is exactly bad why? The chances of it happening in DF are very low and if you join a party you agree to play by their rules.
Join a party without a dps requirement if you don't want people to judge your dps. I am sure you will find enough people to do so.

Yes i answered myself, and i gave you a way so we are both happy, not only you. And i am still waiting for those so called "wrong purposes" other then to say "your deeps suck". Info is GOOD. I really don't understand this whole concept where hiding stuff is considered a good thing.
Using it in DF is pointless since you can't kick and just ignore a loud mouth anyway. But no, you simply don't want to do that and now the people that want to actually step up their game have to use illigal means to see what they can improve. Some logic going on here.

these tools are getting daily used in wow and in a thing called LFR which is the biggest cesspool imaginable you barely see people flipping out unless someone is actually barely doing anything.

I say you are vastly overrating the harm people will with it.

Not to mention, parsers STILL actively help you people in the new fights. How do you think we know the EXACT ACCURACY CAPS for Coil now? How do you think we know the required DPS from 5 players in Turn 8? BECAUSE THESE THINGS HELP US DO THAT. If you can't figure out how to play your job (Which is a BLACK MAGE FOR GODS SAKE, Fire 3 fire fire fire OH LOOK FIRESTARTER), then maybe you should look at a game like Hello Kitty Online.

I'd love to see the research studies, statistics, or what-have-you to back this up. Something other than anecdotal evidence or personal bias, as neither of those are reliable sources of information.

Anyway, all a standardized dps parser would do is...nothing except make dps reads more accurate. They are used regardless of ToS, and people still get harassed and get kicked from parties for poor performances. If there were a standardized dps parser, and you're still getting harassed for your poor performance, you can still screenshot/report. Or you can improve your gameplay, but that may take a little work.

If used correctly, it's called accountability. If a player wants to participate in a raid, there is nothing wrong with expecting that person to improve if they are holding the group back, or get dismissed from the group. Heck, even if the group is doing ok, but that person has huge room for improvement, there is nothing wrong with expecting that person to improve. If people are wanting to raid, they should expect to be held accountable for their performances. It's just that with dps, there has to be a parser involved. Parsers just happen to also provide useful performance information for tanks and healers as well.

Who used a parser? Raiders
Who don't use a parser? Casual gamers, zero interest on improve damage or rotations (And obviously ps players)

As Rankina said, the parser is not an enemy, it's a tool.

How many times you try to kill titan hm and the heart is not killed?

In this case, you could see the global or personal damage. You can see, a toxic player could say to the lowest dps "You suck and leave us". In the other hand, a brain player, could see that the determination debuff is not dispelled, or the dps is inside the gaol.

This game has a lot of dps encounter.
Caduceus get a damage buff could instakill your tank.
ADS :D
Turn 4: They spawn and if you don't kill fast, you wipe
Twintania: if your dps is low, you can't kill conflagrates, snakes and adds in time.
Rafflesia: You need dps to kill bees and the bug, if not, wiped again.
Melusine: Adds and enrage.
Avatar: You need an amount of damage to defeat the boss and the dreadnoughts.
Turn 9: I don't try but i suppose be the same.

On a static group, we study the dps, the healing, the damage, what happen when a player die and how.
Without a parser, we are blind.

I am not a hardcore player, but i am competitive. I spent time fighting the dummy, trying differents rotations, buffs, potions, and study the damage. I am proud to say, i get around 50 dps more. Do you think 50 dps is not a great increased? Well if i lost 50 dps and me party members are same, maybe turn 8 that need 1650 global dps could not defeated.

I have been an mmo healer for over 10years, if you don't think i have been on "the receiving end of the stick" you are very very wrong. And your example doesn't make sense whatsoever. Play bad and people get angry? i...well...duh?

Progression happens at it's own pace. In FFXIV just like any other games there will be players that can down the new raid bosses the first week, the second week, or by the 3rd week. Yet the rest that wont by the time the next thing is introduced echo buff or some sort of "nerf" is needed for them to catch up. Then there's those that even with a buff they wont down it regardless of what they used because the only way they will progress is if they get carried.

Yet Parsers aren't used for just "muh hardest coil" it's used on primals it's used on dungeons and it's not used to better anything.

Rotations are something you memorize so that already kills the necessity of parsers.

There's a way better tool for mechanics and that's called Deadly Boss Mods, something that isn't in FFXIV yet, yet that's a way better tool and one I'd try and promote over "dps meters". How many times has it been brought up in this thread to "help" people again? Rarely if not at all.

All the scenarios you posted are the reason why DPS meters are in fact a demerit.

This discussion is a bit pointless, SE already took a stance regarding DPS meters and I really doubt they will change it regardless if you agree, disagree or chose to ignore their reasons.

I understand why this would be useful (still not a necessity tho) but I doubt SE wants to deal with the "cons" it brings, this is all about money, they can still please the hardcore community without this tool while saving potential issues with the casual community (the biggest source of box sales for pretty much any game).

Now, for those who want a personal DPS meter I'd suggest making a new thread, this thread derailed long ago and I doubt they will give any consideration to that idea unless it's separated from this global DPS meter discussion.

If we completely ignore the flaws in this statement, what are the parsers then being "necessarily" downloaded for? If you have a rotation, you don't need a parser according to your logic. So what is the necessity that is driving people to download?

EDIT: To make a small elaboration simply to hammer home my point; if, extending your logic, rotations are something which can be worked our purely by memorisation with no influence of parsers or analytical methods whatsoever, then why would any player fear a parser? If you put in the time to learn a rotation, you would then in theory be fine on any content (unless dying a lot ... which means you're not fine, parser or no parser). So what scenario suddenly arises which may challenge this player?

There is no way of knowing if your rotation is optimal unless you do heavy parsing or full mathematical analysis. The former is far more readily available to most people than the latter. I prefer the latter, though parses are nice to confirm theory (as with all things, a theory is only good if it explains and can be used to predict physical evidence).

Furthermore, the only real objective way to assess how good you are at maintaining DPS in more stressful/varied situations is by parsing and checking your DPS at the end.

Mechanics != raw output. They are two different things. You can dodge Titan EX like a pro, but if your raw DPS is lacking, it's not going to die. Boss Mods won't help with that in the slightest.

How can common sense explain the huge dps disparity that does occur between two equally geared players of the same job, like DRG or BLM? (Hint: parsers can)

In a AK run, 2 blm joined us. Both blm casting fire III all time and using blizzard III too. Apparently, they though that rotation is the best, they see big numbers. What is the problem? The global damage was a crap and we wiped.

I tried to explain, that rotation is wrong and they may use fire I. My advice was ignored and we wiped again. Why may i waste my time with a person who don't wanna learn or improve theirs skills? I left the party and added to blacklist.

I have no problems with Parsers when they make Parties with low DPS Players or newbies more attraktiv for Power Players.

Example
0 low DPS and 4 high DPS = 30% EXP and 1% Chance of Items in Dungeons or Parties.
1 low DPS and 3 high DPS = 60% EXP and 10% Chance of Items in Dungeons or Parties.
2 low DPS and 2 high DPS = 100% EXP and 20% Chance of Items in Dungeons or Parties.
3 low DPS and 1 high DPS = 150% EXP and 30% Chance of Items in Dungeons or Partyies.
..
7 low DPS and 1 high DPS = 200% EXP and 70% Chance of Items in Dungeons or Parties.

That punishes people for playing well...

Ultimately I don't think this will solve anything. You may know your own numbers, but is it a good enough indication of whether your DPS is good or not? It would probably be good enough for theorycrafting optimal rotations, but not for knowing whether you are meeting DPS checks in fights. You would kind of have to hope you are doing enough DPS, and hope that you are able to keep up with the rest of your party, or that they keep up with you. As well as eventually, people are going to share their numbers anyway, so might as well not limit it to just personal DPS meter.

I can see the kind of PF farming abuse this would give room to. Make like a 5 DPS Titan HM party. Have 1 DPS in average i110, and the rest in i55 or something.

To be fair as well, everything pre-50 are light parties (with the exception of that one 8-man guildhest), so you would only be at 2 DPS slots, making EXP bonus moot.

Whether or not discriminating is bad or good is not up to us to decide. Perhaps something like this would cause more bad, than good, which I believe is what the developers think.

When discussing possible content I like to look at it from multiple angles to fully judge the possible outcomes. "How would this feature perform there, or there? Will it cause more good than bad for the community as a whole? Does it please the majority?" Things like that.

Also, frankly, I agree the DPS Tool would be extremely useful and would feed my curiosity. But do we NEED it to overcome the mechanics in this games battle system? I don't think so.

Seeing your own numbers allows you to test rotations/equipment to improve, to see what all you can do to achieve higher dps.

And if you knew your own numbers you could share with them others to determine whether they're good or not. The sharing part is entirely up to you. Actually, you wouldn't have to share to know whether yours are good. You could compare by what others post. People posting that you need 300 dps for X. Your parser shows you with 280. You would then know you need to step up your game.

As a dps, not knowing how much dps you're actually putting out is rather dumb. You shouldn't have to theorize about what's best. You should be able to test it yourself. It's like tanks not having enmity meters. They don't have to guess how close their enmity is to others. There's a convenient bar that shows them exactly what it is. Dps need something that shows how much they're doing. To know what is best and know if they need to improve.

We should freely be allowed to discriminate about who we party with - some people don't want "jerks", some people don't want bad dps, some people don't want impatient people, etc etc. If you dislike someone's standards, don't play with them.

And often you do - DPS checks are often the harshest part of this game. You could throw yourself at T8 forever only to find that someone is doing 200 DPS and as such you will never win without a miracle, for instance.

The people who test rotations, equipments, and attributes are mostly theorycrafters. As far as I can see, most classes already have their optimal rotations (ie. A Rotation Reborn thread in the DPS subforums). Most of us other people probably wouldn't argue with their numbers or their methodology, so we'd just follow it since it's the accepted optimal rotation.

To have numbers to compare with in the first place, one must first share those numbers. If nobody shares those numbers, how will you know whether your 280 DPS is sufficient for the content? Were you being carried? Were you carrying others?

I definitely agree that DPS needs a meter of sorts so that they can measure their own performance, but to limit it to just personal DPS meter is a bit redundant in my opinion. Kinda like how everyone can see the enmity bar - imagine if the enmity bar was limited to just the tanks.
