Awwwww, man... :( My boyfriend told me about the favor system this morning and we were both pretty excited about it. We even discussed which NPCs we wanted to romance and stuff. XD Not gunna lie, kinda disappointed to find out it was all a joke.

I knew it was an April Fool's joke immediately, but having a Friendship system (even if there are no romances) would be great. Getting to know more about important NPCs (and maybe having some more choices in how we play our character, instead of being "Stoic Nod" guy) would just add to the game.

Maybe they will add something like this later on...personal housing is coming soon after all...

Thancred and Alpinaud were the only 2 people I could think of at the time. You sit here and attacked me for something that was completely innocent at first. For the record, I would say the same thing about people liking Lalas, but I mostly just hear people call them "cute". Which doesn't always mean sexy (People will use that term to describe animals, babies, etc). I guess it was the "eye candy" comment that got me.

I've been encouraging and promoting PLAYER INTERACTION and ROLEPLAYING ever since I started, and my ONLY claim - my only hope - was that players could make more interesting and better developed characters than the bad boy white-hair emo guy, the feminine leader with obligatory big breasts, the dumb blonde/smart guy slapstick duo, etc. Hey, don't get me wrong, Yoshi-P and his team are professionals! There's no way any of this generations MMO players could create such 3 dimensional personalities and stuff.

And for the record, I don't care if things DID turn way more intimate than originally planned ........ as long as it's with other players, I fully support it.

And this is changing the whole subject. I have absolutely NO problem learning backstories of SE's expertly and meticulously designed NPCs. No problem at all....... but that's NOT what was implied in the blog and it's NOT what's implied on any of the threads. What was implied *disclaimer - in my opinion* was that people stop hanging around and interacting with other players (less than they already are), and have this turn into even more of a solo single player game than it already is. No worries, today was the day my sub ended, so you won't have me to "suck the fun out of the game".

Literally the only way you'd get to connect to other players like that is if you were in a RP linkshell/ FC (which are few and far between, at least as far as I know) or you would have to transfer over to the nonofficial RP servers (Balmung, and uh.... forgot the non-Legacy one. There is still a non-legacy one right? :s<). On every other server, you would be unlikely to even have the chance at doing stuff like that with players, as nearly all RPers are on one of two servers.

If this were implemented, we can hope they would expand the NPCs personality so we could form a bit more of a meaningful connection and learn backstory and stuff, and not just keep 'Wordy Emo Bad Boy Elf Kid' or, as you put it "the feminine leader with obligatory big breasts", as that. It doesn't even have to be romantic pairings, ya know? Even just friendships would be ok. Learn more about the characters and stuff, maybe their personality will grow too.

Then again though I'm a sucker for backstory, and I won't lie to you, that would be the primary reason why I'd use Favor were it a thing! I don't ever RP (wrong server/too shy to go up to randoms and initiate that sort of thing.) and in my headcanon for my Riaa I already have her paired off with my boyfriends character. :p

Just for the record, player interaction and NPC interaction aren't exactly mutually exclusive.

Some people might not want to roleplay with other players. Its not about being antisocial, but throw another player into the mix and things could get really awkward. What if they want to roleplay in a way you dont want to? What if that pretend romance becomes real for one of them? It can also be more limiting in a way. With npc's you can use your imagination however you want. With another player you're limited to what you can both agree on.

And it doesnt necessarily mean the PLAYER wants the npc. I can play bioware games (since this reminds me most of bioware romances) and have fun roleplaying a character hooking up with an npc. Doesnt mean I have a personal attraction to that npc. Its no more 'pathetic' than putting your character with another player's character. Unless you mean you want to have a personal attraction for someone else's pixels, which for some reason you see as being above npcs.

I'd love a romance system in game. It could function like a rep system, with an NPC's behaviour to you changing as you gain levels. Hopefully less grindy. :)

Lol sorry to get some of you so riled up by my comments, but I wanted to show how passionate some people are about a favour system! I'm not actually against, just playing devils advocate to prove that it's not a bad idea. If you read any of my other comments, I'm always backing other players and SE's content. I would actually try and gain Fufucha's favor if it were possible, since I share the anti-violence philosophy XD

Guys just so you know. A romance option between your character and an npc could very well be implemented when they eventually put the Path companions back into the game. Imo the path companions are the best chance for these features happening.
There's a thread that discusses many possible features that could possibly be added to the path companion system, and romance is popular topic there.

If we get more people to talk about it, then we have a better chance of reaching the devs' ear, and hopefully getting a response!

I agree that this would be a good thing. But I don't think the options are mutually exclusive. I want to learn more, and develop relationships, with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. New NPC relationships are also great, but I'd like them to let us explore friendships and romances with their main characters too.

Star Wars the Old Republic started out as 100% heterosexual. However it has now expanded to include homosexual options as well. It was also to my knowledge the first MMO that prides itself on taking itself seriously to include such a system. And it included the system right from launch. It was also probably partially the inspiration for yesterdays April Fools Day prank.

Why not? It's one of the better features in Star Wars the Old Republic, and has been an institutionalized part of Electronic Arts' Bioware Division's gaming development plans since around 2007. So why wouldn't it be legit for Final Fantasy XIV to use? Especially when Final Fantasy XI has practically already used it?

I am more disturbed by the fact that despite their gender differences, Alphinaud and Alisaie are for all intents identical twins. How are we supposed to take it that someone is attracted to someone who has a body double of the opposite gender to themselves? That's just weird.

In fact strictly speaking I think Lulu and Quistis Trepe are the only Female Leads in the history of the franchise (prior to MMO's) who are 18 years of age or older... I could be wrong though? And no, I don't count Edea as a female lead.

EDIT: Er, actually just checked, Faris Scherwiz and Lenna Tycoon also qualify as over 18... And what the heck? Did they remove the word count limit?
