How would it hurt? Not doing something just because somebody else did it is what made FFXIV so bad to begin with. Rest XP doesn't mean they can't add new elements and original content. Do you complain on the Toyota forums that other auto manufacturers also include anti-lock brakes and air conditioning in their models?

im not against it, i just hope the bonus isnt as great as WoWs, and since im already confident in my playing abilities on my fave classes since beta it wouldnt effect me personally.
and since the classes are pretty easy to comprehend and very generic im sure any new comber would be able to grasp the classes quite quickly aswell .

This is great news!

Bonus SP always messes with my mind. It's obviously a good thing. But when it runs out, and you're in normal sp, it feels like you've hit the new "surplus," lol.

I'm also hoping there won't be micro-transactions to buy potions to restore the bonus, and give unfair advantages.

Good news, I don't understand the people against the idea. It's nearly identical to Surplus but instead of being a negative thing, it's disguised as a positive thing. They've already stated they are redesigning quests and guildleves to reward exp on completion as opposed to a boost to exp per mob. It will likely balance out to be very similar to how it is now. A couple questions I would have to follow this up with, though.

1) The bazaar system wants us to remain logged in to sell our goods, in my opinion the rules of the game should be consistent throughout. If they are going to give us incentive for taking breaks in our gameplay, will other elements be adjusted to help enforce that?

2) What's going to happen with Guardian's Favor? Is it being removed and streamlined into "rested exp"? I've always looked at Guardian's Favor as FFXIV's version of rested exp, which I thought to be satisfactory, but since we're now looking at adding rested exp, I fail to see the purpose of Guardian's Favor.

ummm personaly I'm not thrilled by this, i feel the reward should be for putting time into the game not for staying logged out. I know Yoshida is trying to create a game that does not revolve around the xp grind but why should we be handed xp without working for it. I'm sorry but the more Western MMO this game becomes the less I want to play : (

Yay for encouraging people to play less. Can we have bonus gil when not logged in too? How about bonus end-game gear? Soon I won't need to play at all and my character will just grow itself.

Rested XP isn't going to make anyone play less just to get a small xp bonus. You would still get more sp from playing than not.

There are two kinds of people who play FFXIV:

• Those who play 24/7.
• Those who aren't logged in 24/7.

The people who are logged in 24/7 at the cost of friends, family, and regular exercise are really mad that the people who see the sun at least once a week will get experience a little faster to make up for the 8 hours of sleep and 40 hours of having a job and however many hours of having a social life that they're out of the game.

But don't worry, 24/7 crowd! You'll still get more overall experience! Rested experience might narrow the gap ever-so-slightly, but it'll never let people who do things other than play FFXIV 24/7 catch up to you!

But you don't get exp for nothing.

You get a slightly higher exp rate for a short amount of time.

If you log out at 10k tnl, you log back in at 10k tnl. All rested exp means is that if you log out for like 72 hours, you get an empress band effect (where you gain +10% experience for your first 5k experience or so).

It's not exactly the same. Surplus exp starts off at 100% and wears down to 0%. Rested exp starts off at 100+X% and wears down to 100%. The big difference is it doesn't end at 0%.

While surplus does go to extremes if you do as a player go to extremes. It is the same system. Rested XP is a Negative Status that is given as a way to encourage people to stop playing for a while to spread out their game play over an amount of time. They both do the same thing, Surplus was just Advertised wrong.

It doesn't matter if you get

2 XP Normal + 1 XP Rested.

The end result is you still get 3 XP.

i dont think fatigue ever hit the 0 point in actual release. In beta yes, but in release, i dont think so.

Its actually a foolish idea either way. Im all for exp rings and guardians favor, because anyone can use it. But log off get more exp just seems like a cheesy marketing ploy
and the inverse was.... well.... a very very bad marketing ploy

It did.

And yeah, nobody's arguing that rested/surplus aren't the same thing (minus the penalty that surplus had at one extreme). But a) they're getting rid of the surplus 0-penalty and b) who cares? If you're really that upset that people who log out from time to time will get slightly higher base EXP than people who play 24/7, well, that's your headache.

Looking foward to more info regarding a possible system like this.

Someone needs to start making a checklist of all the WoW features and those that are also applied to FFXIV.

This is a very rational choice if you want to pick up a bit more of the casual crowd.

I don't think this bonus is needed. Moreover because being casual I'm almost reaching my 50. I didn't want to reach 50 because I didn't want to, but then I remembered I have another character in the server (The Duke). I took a few days of gameplay to reach 49 and gaining experience in the game now is pretty easy.

I will accomodate this bonus if casual players will find it hard to level up their classes. If they don't, I can't see the point of it.

All these extra "bonus" systems that have nothing to do with actually "playing the game"... Rather they all have to do with "How long you play the game"...

How about SE rewards players with bonus XP for their skill in battle rather than their time playing...

For example:
Successful BR = +5%XP for the party
or
Complete the fight in 30 seconds = +5%XP for the party

etc...

No Good? Free XP better than skillfully acquired XP?

Get a job then, real life's pretty rewarding. This on the other hand, is a game. Whilst I like putting a degree of effort to get a sense of achievement out of the game I think anything to help with the grind (Grinding isn't content in my mind, it needs to be surrounded by content so it doesn't feel like a necessary evil, which I believe is their plan anyway) is a good thing.

I always thought this kind of thing wouldve been a good idea (In FFXI i thought SC-MB combos should've given exp bonuses), but it's fairly short-sighted to give a blanket bonus of +5% exp for finishing quickly etc (I know its just an example) because it could be abused by mass-killing certain enemies and we'd be back in the colibri camps of FFXI.

On the other hand, giving bonuses for taking on genuinely challenging endeavours seems like a good idea for me (for exmaple, venturing into an area populated by some really dangerous enemies like strongholds, where if you don't fulfill your role properly you can pretty much be wiped out very quickly).

The first sp system was based on rewarding abilities. It got cancelled.

WoW(pun int).. is this serious?, i really hope its not what i think it going to be. i really hope it something small like a 10% bonus for 1-2 hrs, anymore than that is just absurd!.

I like TC's idea.. it's a good boost for those who don't have enough time to play often.. they'd be less likely to be left behind..

I am against the idea for make a easy lvl up game easier. The system might casual friendly but for normal gaming compertition lvl up, it SUCK....ALOT

No.. I think it'd be pretty well balanced if they got rid of surplus..
If I couldn't log in for a month I would like to have my exp increased for a limited time so that I could get a little back on track with my friends who play regularly..

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. If you play a lot it really doesn't affect you, you'll be ahead either way.

Admittedly I play too much and I'd like to see the grind a bit easier so I can play less. But I don't think giving people things for free is the best route. Why not just shave 10 or 20% off the TNR numbers? That way you're still working for every SP but everyone benefits.
