Why are people insulting the OP? To what end? Do you think it adds to the dialogue or reflects well on the community?
If you disagree, please share... if you agree please share... but many of the one liners and insults are by people that would like to consider themselves better than the average forum poster in "that other" game (WoW of course)...
Well I would like to invite you to consider just how much better you are before you hit the "post" button on your one liner, insult, or "witty" jpeg image. That kind of posting certainly didn't help 1.0 fare very well.
SE wants this game to be casual. The problem is that if they make hardcore content at all in this game, the game will no longer be a casual game. Reason why is because if there are items that exist that are impossible to get as a casual player then the game is no longer casual. This is why most items are easy to get compared to FFXI in its golden age.
C'mon dawg, FFXI died when they released abyssea.
To the Op and his fc:
Though I am sorry you didn't find what you were hoping for in ffxiv ( i too am disappointed sometimes) I am however glad you took the time to come try it out. Though many a friend did show up for ARR I had a great deal of difficulty convincing ls members to come try FFXIV out at all. I would like to play both games to be honest I just can't afford the 4 subs needed for it (me and my hubbys xi/xiv accounts) to do so. In any case I hope you all enjoy your time in Seekers as i did and use some of the horrible party mess of here to include people for fracture wins (as towards the end of my time last in xi it was almost impossible to join said runs unless you already won them prior too or could pay for it. ) To make things more enjoyable for those who would rather spend time in Vana'diel then Erozea -Kyri of CarbuncleXI/BalmungXIV/Kiriah of Diablos-
ffxi had its flaws, played back in the chains of promethia days, when easy prey could kill you at high levels. Camping that peacock charm for days upon days for nothing. Yea that was fun alright. Trying to level a dps class took 10 hours of waiting in jeuno. The only thing that FFXI did well was the itemization, you had a lot of different choices of gear, that wasnt based on ilvl. Items like sniper rings, peacock charm, lizzy boots, those things could still be viable end game. Now everything is brainless, ohh its higher ilvl ok equip that. What happened to the customization, give us the uniqueness of items back. The problem with the items in 14 is that everything is based on stats, what about adding special bonuses to certain skills. +100 potency to cure, accessory, for example would make things interesting, essentially sacrificing stats for a bonus on a skill. Even i could make more interesting items than these Devs.
numbers are fine but they lack the diversity of WoW's since there's only acc, crit, skill/spell speed (not sure why it's even a stat) and determination (no one cares much, but it's better than speed stats). All jobs can pick whatever and be just fine as long as they have acc and their main stat/weapon dmg to back them up. Also didn't help that there's no materia slots on any endgame gear, the least they could have done is allowed slots and then prevented you from adding extra materia on.
Basically, they could have added way more options to what you can do to your gear but they left it feeling rather empty... WoW had enchantments/gems/special effects/more stats to pick from. Currently, we just pick anything with the highest main stat and call it a day.
FF11 is all about nostalgia. That's about it. When people go back to it and see that the game is not the same as it was they will lose interest. Obviously this is a generalization but it's more or less true.
Also, wayyyyyyyyyyy tired of people complaining about how this game sucks when it's been officially released for just about 4 months and we've already had 1 major content update and will be getting another one soon... Would you all prefer it if the game changed to "Fight X monster, gain 100 out of 200,000 exp for level 15, gain no Gil and no loot, rinse and repeat, try and make money, buy gear that is outrageously priced, have gated content cause there's no more DF and finding a group is basically 'sit in shout chat screaming "LF tank healer DPS for sastasha" and then praying that someone responds in an hour or two before you have to go to school/work/bed."
Yeah, sounds like a blast.
Luke: Obi-Wan? Why didn't you tell me? You told me SE betrayed and murdered my FFXI.
Obi-Wan: FFXI was seduced by the dark side of the casuals. It ceased to be FFXI and became Abyssea. When that happened, the good MMO that was your FFXI was destroyed. So what I told you was true... from a certain point of view.
I'm not surprised tbh. The title doesn't really give the impression, "i want to have mutual decision about the problems this game has" He's stating the game has failed so he is leaving. This will aggravate people straight away before they've even clicked the post. If some go on to then actually read what Op has to say, the first few lines and bullet points don't help. it screams the same thing. "This game has failed, so better listen to what i say", not trying to take sides, but that's the image it gives me. Again, it doesn't give the impression the op wants to talk, debate and discuss, just makes people think the Op wants to argue and bash the game. So they won't bother reading on.
I'm all for feedback and that, but if you want people to react in a positive manner at least try construct a thread which warrants it. What i find weird is the last paragraph is all right, so why wasn't the entire thread written in the same manner?
Thinking of jumping ship aswell. XIV way to easy and repetitive.
The only reason most don't want to leave is because of the friends they have met along the way. It's like that in all mmos once it starts getting boring.
OP....LOL.....
Let me remind everyone here that people participated in a PLAYER POLL during 1.0. Basically, they asked, and we answered. The game is just how we responded. Blame yourselves, not the company.
Also,
The game is still so very young. XI didn't have much in the beginning. There were only 6 starting jobs in XI. It wasn't until a year after release that they got new jobs. We started ARR with 8.
I've already given the OP too much attention though. Based off his/her storm stirring post, not much thought or research was put into this. A lot of this has been explained, like how Yoshi-P doesn't want the game to be based solely on leveling.
..and then I read:
You're basically comparing the amount of content from an 11 year old game to a 5 month old game.
Were you around at the start of XI? Do you know how buggy it was? And do you even realize that all the content in that game now was not added all at once?
These types of assumptions are my favorite. Can you tell me what the weather will be like on this day next year as well? I want to know if I'll need an umbrella or not.
Another useless thread.
FFXI is an easier game then FFXIV, the fights are much easier then FFXIV but overall its more grindy to get your gear. The current top tier content is the Arch Angle level 99 fights, which involve getting 20 merit points for 6 people then doing the fight. Your reward is these papers that you need to collect to upgrade your AF1 into ilvl 119.
Eh honestly? When was the last time trinkets were dynamic? Past ICC they just had secondary stats on them and stacked a primary stat via buff. There literally was only one right choice for the longest time with trinkets AND set bonuses. Either your set bonus was good enough to ignore non-ideal itemization of tier gear or it wasn't, that's all there was to it. I feel like implying WoW had some diversity of ways to gear is really disingenuous, items with the higher ilvl were almost always the right choice.
IMO games are not all about gear. I don't like the raid for gear to wait for raid to gear again "rinse repeat" until expansion comes out to do the same over and over.
What I like is doing lots of questing to unlock a certain area where more story awaits and new lands to be explored. To ME gear is bonus when accomplishing something. (not only beating a boss)
Yes gear in XI took way to long to get and in XIV its way way way to easy. A good balance in between should have been applied.
Its better to have 500k player subbing for 1 year then 1M subbing for 2-3 months.
Where do you get these numbers from.Quote:

Past experience? Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, and Rift had huge population numbers and fell to nothing, forcing them to become F2P to payback investors, or in Warhammer's case... close entirely. FFXI sat around 300k to 500k for 10 years and became Square's most profitable product.
Bye. /10char
To Rex from Hyperion:
LOL, thanks for the attention. An underlyding motive for this post is to get the attention of the Devs and by you posting and viewing this thread you are helping me accomplish this. Also I would like to note that I have been playing FFXIV since 1.0 Beta and I did play FFXI from NA launch. I am well aware of the pros and cons of both games. Of course I can compare an older game to a newer one that had to "re-launch" and did nothing but reskin shit and give us tweaked older content for the most part. Yoshi has simply modeled this game after a crap load of other games that have failed so yes I will make the assumption that it will fail at this rate.
What I don't understand is why don't they have a bundle discount subscription for ARR with XI?
I wonder if there couldn't be some great opportunity for some kind of interplay between the two somehow - (ancestor/descendent... or different dimensions... or even just some kind of account bound achievements)
It seems to me like it would make sense to have a discounted sub for both... so you aren't competing against yourself...plus players could bounce back and forth between releases, so that morep layers are enjoying your current releases, instead of waiting around in one game and missing the content release on the other.
I mean the sub goes to SE either way, idt they care. Oh, and we don't care either btw
Just a point really: if FFXI is the type of game you all were looking for, then ARR was 'never' going to be the place for you. This is not a failing on SE's part.
Why are you blaming FFXIV again? It is like getting a COD player to play Battlefield and commit.
The thing is that it never was the way they remembered it and every time I see some FF xi fantard wax poetic about the 'good old days' I have to wonder if we were playing the same game because the game was more luck oriented than it is now rather than skill. And when the game went to skill oriented game play with Abyssea they screamed bloody murder despite the fact that they asked for skill based game play.
About as much fun as gathering together every week or so to camp an HNM that may or may not pop and competing for 'who has the best bot' for a mob that even if you beat it might not reward you with anything.Quote:
Yeah, sounds like a blast.
I dunno, I went back to XI and have been having a blast levelling a new character and generally messing around with my old character.
The Trust magic makes solo-ing and having a good time so much more fun! (My only wish is that it could be used in BCNM's and other story fights since there aren't as many folks online nowadays)
