I'd like to know the answer to this as well

I do think that Unaspected damage is not reduced by the Goddess affinity reduction. And there is no resistance stone for it, heck I would put Unaspected damage resistance with the amount of summoner's running around. A triple DoT healer gets slept and waits it out for 15 seconds loses 50% of his HP. And guess what? When a BLM gets trained all he can do for damage is spam Scathe which is also unaspected top that off with all PvP skill being unaspected damage. Though it might not seem much the 1 point Phantom Dart actually hits quite hard.
I'm switching to BLM not MNK. But on your question my Server's probably my Datacenter's best MNK Rank 30 really eats caster up. When I go against him, I literally cannot lose him, He will have the speed and pressure to lock me down to just scathing. Aetherial Manipulate and he will just Shoulder Tackle, I do think that without someone else peeling there is no way you can cast outside of Equinamity and Surecast. And it is not like I can Equinamity and face-off with him, the damage is just too intense.
Though if I do manage to get away, and survive the first 60 seconds it is my win normally. But living through Fetter wards and first Sleep Purify is a real hell.

The Monk in question's Lodestone.
@Sunako
Maybe that be a good idea for my last Materia slot... Materia 4 does after all reduce elemental damage by 6% perhaps? Well if assuming it follows how PvP materia works.
that would reduce bit endkindle burst prob
I highly doubt that. The base elemental resists you have are in the 270 range. I melded some Fire rank III/IV to the 5th slot of a fiew pieces of PLD PvP gear. I'm quite sure +10 elemental resist is << 1% resist.
Since I'm swimming in a sea of elemental materia I might try stat capping a full set of wolf gear with just that today, I'll let you know how it goes lol. I'll pop some HQ elemental ward pots and everything.
There is a difference between element resist and status resist...
sorry OP but even in wow, DoTers are always reigning supreme in BG or Arenas
I'm tired of my dps getting global'd /yawn
The only Resistance gear worth using would be Wind. As it reduces SMN's Garuda Egi Wind Blade and Enkindle damage. Ifrit still does mostly physical damage.
I'm so sick of all the QQ SMN ARE SO OP QQ spammage.... is NO ONE bothered by being slept for 30 sec (which, of course, is purified) then for 15 seconds, then for 8 seconds, then the match is over... really, no one?
That will be the next QQ then after that's nerved heals will be next on the list. Until all melee have to do is mash buttons to kill a caster healer. Then the healers will all mostly quit and the QQ will then be no healers in PvP.....4 games in a row now with this exact trend.
I just started trying to pvp and play as a summoner and I get dry humped by every opposing team member as soon as the fight starts. It's difficult because there is no matching system for people of various experience levels. So I'm thrown into a battle where 95% of the other players know what they are doing and have had a chance to test out various strategies. Before I can even fire off one spell im getting surrounded and have to resort to spamming misama 2 before I die 4 seconds later. Not to mention something about the pvp community in this game seems to bring out the worst in people, I've been matched up with some people who flat out said they would be better off having 3 players rather then having me. That kind of comment really hurts. I have no problem admitting I suck at pvp but how the hell am I supposed to improve when its one match that lasts 20 seconds then you basically have to queue up again. Not to mention even if I'm not killed right away unless you are using swiftcast every spell I try to cast gets interrupted.
Fair enough, either way do you agree that for the majority of wow they've been compeititive?
I feel like there was a long time when rogues were pretty gimp as well as ret paladins and hunters. Mainly thinking arena here.
edit: and ele shams in pandaria
Last time i played ffxi there was a whm who had stun resists on his gearset who magically resisted my second, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh stun (i'm unsure if the mnk foolishly charged ahead and ruined my first stun at the same time i assumed i landed it) and made me think that it's possible to pile up on sleep resistance to achieve similar or the same effect.
That also makes me look at the whining and crying over sleep moot especially since using purify after the initial sleep drops you down to a 15 sec sleep (chances of you being reslept the same second are extremely low in any case) and after that you're still in play. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too.
A member of my FC was saying the same thing yesterday, and then we did about 35 PvP matches together. He changed his tune pretty quick. Being slept for 30s, breaking it with Purify quickly, and then immediately being put back to sleep right away, game after game, he realized that pushing to force people to purify early is actually a strategy. It's not a chance thing, they do it on purpose to get you locked into that 15/7s second and third sleep, and then they stun you 3 times (if PLD is present).
The trick isn't to break it when they're focusing you. I don't know what class he was but if you break sleep infront of me i will make sure you are reslept. The goal in pvp isn't just to win, but not to loose and part of that is deception. Breaking it when they turn around, are attacked, or when they focus elsewhere turns you into a free agent. Sure it sucks when someone sleep focuses you (i've had a whm, who wasn't being dealt with, focus sleep me until my whole team died so i can understand).
No one documented the effects of sleep resist since no one is really getting those materias and i believe that would change the conversation.
SMN in general is broken and OPed. Of course it was going to be OPed in PVP.
I hope SE boosts other jobs instead of nerfing SMN however. I don't want to see people quit or the game quickly become "SMN only".
There is a level where nerf is required instead of buff. Not nerfing a class which can Global people will still allow them to global people even if you buff other classes, so what you plan to do? Make every class capable of globaling each other and make PvP into Pong! ?
So... as a newbie... I should stay away from PVP shouldn't I? It seems Ill be more frustrated then excited.. and.. it just doesnt sound fun from what Ive read so far T__T.
Is there anyway other way to get the PVP gear?
Play in the 30s-40s bracket, you'll probably enjoy it more since there's no Morale gear to dumpster you.
Additionally, you shouldn't go in expecting much. It's MMO PvP, very rarely is it ever good (most of the time it's actually quite bad), nor does it give you room to win through skill. It's basically all gear/class, just like pretty much every other MMO.
Just go in and try to explode someone, if it works, neat, if not, oh well.
If you do it that way the PvP is decently entertaining.
Unless you're stuck doing nothing. PvP is my time drain, unless you like going on endless Treasure Hunt runs. As a DRG I'd strongly recommend Lvl 40 bracket cause they have all the required skills to perform at that bracket well.
I really want the gear tho, Im a bit of a hoarder/collector. How long would it take me to get all the gear for my DRG? I will probably try it out once I finish story mode.
The ilvl 55 gear you can get instantly because it's crafted.
The ilvl 70 gear takes a very significant time investment but it's an achievable goal.
The ilvl 90 gear (rank 30)... prepare yourself for an unbelievable grind.
It takes around 47,000 xp just to hit rank 30 and you get 30xp for a win or 10xp for a loss. If you're solo queueing as a DRG without any experience a 50% win rate would be generous but we'll go with that. Since you're a DPS the queues will take at least a few mins on average. For simple numbers we'll say you wait 3 mins on average for a game, 1 min pregame, and play 2 min games. At that rate you're looking at 235 hours of PvP. If you PvP'd for 2 hours a day every day it would take about 4 months to get there. It would actually take longer if you plan to buy both the ilvl 70 and ilvl 90 sets but you get the picture.
the most OP summoner ability of all.
