It's bad because it's built around denial. I don't care that Sleep is dominating the arena, even though I'm a BLM. I don't want PvP like that. I want PvP where nobody ever loses control of their character. Ever.
No MMO seems willing to do that. :(

I always have a lot more fun in competitive games where you can't make people lose control of their character. You never feel any loss of agency, you always feel like you can do better, there's something more you can do, even if you're beaten. That next time, you can do something different and turn the tides.
In CC-fest MMO PvP? Nope. Everything grays out and you just die.
Unfortunately Wildstar's combat is a mess. It's not sure if it wants to be TERA or Guild Wars 2. I hope they fix it before release, because in the last beta it was really really clunky and seriously unfun. Needs a mouselook toggle, crosshairs and binding attacks to Mouse1/Mouse2 bad.
Wildstar is.

lol 30s sleep is like the most retarded PVP thing in the world. Diminishing returns on sleep is almost non-existent so a blm can put me to sleep for 30s, sleep wears off and then about 15s later they can put me to sleep for another 30s while sprinting away the entire time. Not much anyone is able to do in a situation like that.
Apologist fanboy: "YOU DUM NOOB YOU GOTTA GET PVP GEAR AND ABIILITYS SO SLEEP DONT WERK GOODER, PVP IS SUPPOSE TO BLOW HARD WHEN YOU START"
Is this a troll thread? This is the worst PvP in an MMO I've ever experienced outside of FFXI's ballista.
+1 here. I am absolutely loving PvP.
Those types of things tend to come along eventually. The point is they're doing CC right. Also I play in the beta (it's still going on as of this weekend) and I don't find it clunky at all. It does have some framerate/optimization issues but again, those things tend to get straightened out before release.
Well Done some PvP Soon Rank4. And so far well lost almost all matches haha.
I can tell you a few things. Sleep is an issue which I am sure Square Enix will fix. So I am not worried about that.
Now if you guys really want to play hard mode in PvP try with a White Mage. Jesus hard to even heal one spell that aint instant. I got the PvP spell for 10 secs. Still darn hard.
I liked FFXI AND FFXIVs PvP. Instead of trying to hate it, try to like it instead.
sleep isnt a big issue several things can break it out. so not a huge deal also put pressure on the BLM
PVP is really fun. It's very basic though but that doesn't make it any less fun. I would say only BLM's need to be looked at because I think they are getting the shaft.
Due to players outnumber devs by thousands if not more, PvP rarely works as envisioned, hence you get the 'every game's PvP sucks' which is somewhat true. However, most game's PvP starts out sounding plausible. Usually if a dev explains their PvP system you can at least say, 'sounds like it could work even though I'm sure someone will break it'. In FF14, just trying to tell people you can sleep someone for 30 seconds should set off a red alarm. Just because PvP tends to be broken (due to players figuring it out) doesn't mean you just skip straight to the broken part.
Only got a chance to play 5 or so matches at lunch, but I had fun.
Really got me back into playing the game more. I love the PvP and the ranking system, this is the grind that I have been looking for.
I fit in 30+ matches before work today, I can't wait to come home and keep on farming it.
"Sleep is horseshit and I have no uptime because of sprint."
-Every melee.
"NO SLEEP IS FAIR AND BALANCED AND YOU HAVE ABILITIES YOU JUST HAVE TO LOSE A LOT TO EVENTUALLY GET THEM WHILE I STOMP YOU HARDER."
-Every BLM.
get some pvp gear before you even try to complain...
Think FFXI Summoner.
You are supposed to play PvP until endgame and collect all the skills and bonuses. Then your disadvantage of being slept and such is removed. Just like perpetuation.
It makes total sense. Or at least as much as SE keeping perpetuation for a decade even when every single Summoner told them to remove it. (But hey, they added items with -perp and it would be terrible to fix game mechanics and end up with items being useless. Better to stick with broken mechanics and useful items.)
I love it. I think it's all fairly balanced, maybe I am just lucky and got some pretty awesome intense matches. But I thought it was great. I have only gone in as DRG and my first match sucked really badly. I ran straight at them and died in milliseconds. Lol but at least got to see arena. Later on I started thinking up strategies, actually began winning a little. It's really fun, and there is no longer rotations like in PVE...every single time there is a hectic rush to this pretty awesome fast-paced chess match where all my abilities are helpful. I am kinda surprised it worked this well. I even got in a match where our healer died first and we still took down all four, so anything can happen if you are just quick to evaluate what's going on. Methinks a lot of people are just trying the same strategy over and over and getting bored when this is about thinking on your feet.
We need diminishing returns and we need a push back on casts, not 100% interrupt on all damage taken.
^ This shiet right here is what ruins games. Do not re balance PvE skills for the sake of PvP. You make a different skill set JUST for PvP or even have certain skills do certain things while in a battleground. Which i believe is what Yoshi was intending to do later anyway.
That is how most PvP are :)
But the facts are Sleep is a bit on the overside of powerful at the moment. Warhammer had a similiar issue, but they fixed it like this. When you get stunned, sleept (Not not slowed) after you get cured or it runs out you det a debuff so you wont be able to be chained slept or stunned.
Something Like that mgiht solve the issue. Since people will use CC less "spammy"
Yea personally I would just tell the lot of you whinning. If you don't like it then don't pvp till they fix it. Which I'm sure they will although when I did pvp I didn't find sleep to much of an issue more annoying then anything. Point is this patch put in a lot of different things we can do and experiance. Instead of taking your time bashing the game about one aspect you don't like. Why not try focusing on the aspects you do like. No one likes an always negative nancy.
Since it somehow made it into the game, I must assume devs thought 30 second sleep is perfectly fine. Like I said, while PvP on most games are eventually broken due to unforseen interaction of skills/gear/class, this game seems to just skip that part and go straight to the broken from start.
You can't say PvP isn't part of the game when it is a highlight of a major patch. A game with no concern on PvP would be Everquest 1 where all kinds of craziness happen, and nobody on the devs even cared about PvP let alone advertise about it, so you know what you were getting into when you PvP. I understand PvP might not be a major concern, but most other game's PvP at least appeared to work. Here we just skip straight to broken.
PvP is now a part of FFXIV. And to be honest I can see it work pretty well (After they fixed some skills) And from my information they have coded so PvP and PvE skills does not crash with each other? I am unsure of this thou so don't quote me on this.
If that is the case then balance in PvP will be easier since PvP and PvE wont conflict with each other at all :)
Statement: This one has not been as Enraptured in PvP since DAoC. It cannot wait for the Frontlines large scale PvP.
Having PvP problems? I feel bad for you son.
I got 99 problems but sleep ain't one.

If you're having a bad time in the den, try getting good.
Ahh People on higher horse.
Now I understand people think highly on themselves. But if you step back in a few weeks you will notice a pattern of issues that might come up. Are you then going to say the same thing? When a majority of a community and data shows that some skills might be to powerful (Observe Data is more important then opinons here) will you then tell Square Enix to "try getting good"?
I'd be lying if I said I did not balk at the idea of a 30 second Sleep. Even using food for +5 Sleep Res, and Sleep Ward Potions for another 15, still is double digit duration if you get hit while you're roleplaying a NASCAR doing the Indy 500 on healer.
The diminishing returns seem rather too forgiving, also. On a few occasions I would expend my Purify, only to receive another whopper of a Sleep about 15 seconds later. It's not always possible to keep tabs on the locations of everyone with the camera in that area, especially when you're leading a parade of angry mouthbreathers in circles, because if that's not the hypest way to play PvP, I don't know what is. I must humbly request Yoshida just replaces the current BGM with Yakety Sax if you queue up as healer.
Anyway, you don't get 30 second Stuns, or 30 second Miasma's, I don't quite comprehend the reasoning behind 30 second Sleep. It's not like it's the only CC BLM has, Lethargy is a ghetto Miasma, but still quite effective.
Such a dumb argument. PvP should be balanced no matter how many hours the player has spent playing. Players shouldn't have to slog through hours of cheesy, broken mechanics to get the gear to defend against cheesy, broken mechanics. We should start with defenses against cc. Victory to whoever plays the most I guess, reward the no skill/no lifer. No thanks.
The pvp is amazing and I am totally rocking it. Only thing that bothers me is responsiveness and the positioning update. When garuda pushes people they teleport on my screen so i have to spin around to see where they went. Also when following people while trying to melee is pretty bad. Abilities start to go off then realize they are not in range. But other than that kind of stuff I really like it.
