On which planet do you live? I would love if what you said is true. But it is not. It might look like that because the numbers above the mobs heads are very big each time a BLM does something, but both MNK and SMN does in the long run deal more dmg than BLM's. It is just that they have smaller numbers than us that gets added more frequently.
In what ways is Cover broken? It transfers physical damage (tank, MNK, DRG, BRD) from the target to PLD as long as they're within range; it just ignores "pre-cast" self-buffs on the PLD and Stoneskin/Hallowed entirely.
If you know how and when to use Cover, its a lifesaver. Try to use it when it can't be used, or if the covered runs around like a headless chocobo, and it will fail
You know how I said "pre-cast self-buffs"? Any buff you have on before Cover is ignored. If you want to pop a CD, do it after Covering someone. It also always ignores Hallowed, and I believe SS as well (think it ignores SS on the Covered too, hilariously enough).
I've healed a Covering PLD many, many times...and I've never seen him take more damage than he should. Covering after losing aggro vs not Covering and holding aggro always gave me the same amount of healing "trouble" (+/- a reasonable amount, comparable to mobs critting or missing extra, and this would have to do with both of those, and Cover ignoring buffs). I also can't remember a single time he died while using Cover in these instances (which would indicate much more damage being taken than normal)
Obviously, if the enemy team is stacking mages, Cover is going to be useless. Which is on reason why my pre-made team will have physical and magic DPS on it...PLD covers the heal and I can't DPS the heal down...but the caster can...and while the heal is freaking out I'm slowly killing the PLD as well.
What these mages fail to realise is they can kite and use sprint. Shocking I know.
What you fail to realize is ranged attack exist aswell as skill that remove sprint
What you're apparently too stupid to understand is if a BLM don't get any cast off after getting into astral fire III you're going to lose your stack
Since you obviously don't know what you're talking about i'll explain. It take 3 fire I (7.5 second) or 1 fire III (3.5 second) to get astral fire III and then you need to hardcast fire I(2.5 second) every 10 second in order to keep that stack which is going to be borderline impossible with any direct damage canceling your cast

1 cast/3.5s (less with good stuff) time to cast a fire III and get to AF3 instant... well this aside it's true blm can probably get the most instant burst, but it need to chain his spell non stop to do it or he's just useless, where a monk can just spam WS doing around 190 to 360 dmg + an AA of ~160 which is very fast too.
Don't know what to think of PVP right now since we couldn't really test it, but I'm not that afraid being BLM there. Also it's a team play, guess that more than your job it'll depend on your team mates's abilities and yours.
The only thing they'll be able to do is scathe kiting but that attack has been nerfed so with the interruptions, they're going to be pretty easy to kill.
u know what pvp game was hard for mages? Daoc , but guess what ? they managed to survive and kill things even solo .... PBAOE mages were the KILLERS in PVP , the melees were there for distraction and disrupting healers / casters, a solo PBAOE mage could kill whole teams with some finesse.....(and traits :P)

yeah it's w/e time it is, I've been up for ten minutes and blah. But with a little tweaking I'm sure you can put out a lot of dmg before anyone reaches you using aoes. Plus freeze is supposed to work now which might give you an extra few seconds before they get to you. We can probably push out a lot of aoe damage unless we're targetted first and exclusively, which we can probably come up with tactics to deal with. I mean if everyone tries to rush the blm it leaves their healer or blm open to the rest of our team.
Blm need astral fire III to do any kind of damage. you cannot just start a fight and blow up someone before they reach you

I think aetherial manipulation is being highly overlooked here. I see it as being a very strong tool for BLM in pvp with several practical applications.
i hate BLM's in pvp they are so cheap >they need to bar Sleep from pvp i noticed hacking going on as well aka teleporting around the arena & death grip aka war grappling opponents across the arena!!!

PVP is amazing with any class if you are playing in a pre-made just know your strengths and strats
Black mages are fine currently, just play like spellcleave in wow sleep everything..isolate one player and blow them up. 108/1 win/loss ratio at the moment playing Double BLM WHM Warr. It does require coordination though so its much easier in a premade.
