This can't be argued. This post is simply fact. ^

I've gotten groups thanks to trade chat when I couldn't via content finder. Happens all the time. People just don't always use content finder yet are willing to join you if asked or if they see you in chat.

Make it an optional room though, not something you're forced to see. Sometimes you just want peace and quiet.

I dont think people will expect you to have the global chat on, if you are trying to talk to -one- person through global chat.. you're doing it wrong.

I think Wolife hit it in the head with that sue thing, because while GMs responded quickly I remember some pretty big tyrants as well. So SE was probably like "yeah... this isnt going to happen again, you just got permanerfed"
(Just want to make sure everyone knows I'm not saying all the GMs where / are like this, just the bad of a few spoiled it for all)

Hoooold on a second. I always thought that SE did a pretty decent job on RMTs in FFXI. The Special Task Force reacts relatively quick, compared to other MMOs I played.

A spam report function, as mentioned on the first page would be great but it's hard to perm ban a highlvl player on his first shout. If these guys are level 1~30 it might be okay to ban them immediately. But a lvl 50? No. Not at the first time.

Sure, there are ways to improve RMT countermeasures and I'm sure SE is glad to hear us out but saying that they did nothing, or that they are doing "nothing" (read: investigating) isn't fair.

As for a Global Channel.. rather not. Not a fan of it. If it's optional feel free to add it (I like the "Linkshell" idea).

There's no game or GM that can permaban. What WOW and D3 do is give their GMs to suspend a player for 1-30 days if the GM believes the person was actually spamming, and then an investigation by a more specialized task force is done to determine whether it was RMT spam and worthy of an account ban. Accounts found not to have been spamming are credited with free game time, and accounts found to be RMT spam are banned.

The important difference here is that the GMs, who are the first responders to spam reports, have the ability to suspend/mute accounts. In other MMOs, they don't have this ability, and these accounts will keep spamming up until the minute they're banned. OR, the game itself enforces spam prevention, which actually just ends up pissing off legitimate players and is not all that effective in stopping RMT sites from advertising themselves in-game.

I remember playing Tera and the chat was absolute nonsense. You could spam like crazy forever. Ever since WoW added a limit to trade chat posts, the spam is almost non-existent. It's a great solution that should be incorporated into any kind of global chat.

What I've noticed is that people type their message in one go instead of several because they only get a limited amount of posts they can do within a short period of time. So you don't see any of this anymore..

I didn't play enough of TERA to play around with chat channels, but practically every (good) MMO with chat channels have them as optional things that you can leave and join from anywhere at any time.

It had the option to turn it off to but as mentioned in other posts, by turning it off to avoid the chaos it brings, you also miss out then on possible grouping as no one seems to want to look for people besides hoping they hear the plea for help over various random discussions about who's hot, who's looking for erp and why alienware is so much better then your pc.

Yeah, I can't say I played TERA enough to know, but if the only way to find groups was through shouting, then it's bad. However, none of the other MMOs with chat channels and global chat that I've played were limited that way, and the zone/global channels were useful, except for the very rare trolls or "Barrens chat".

they should just make it where you report then they look into it. automated system is a nice way to bite us, we might be talking about RMT then boom hit with the ban stick because of key words that happen to be too close together.

only way to resolve the RMT is to stop buying gil. other wise they will always be there.
