WHM has little to no utility, so I'm assuming they decided to make their damage high to compensate. AST by comparison has the highest utility of the 3 healers, so its DPS being pretty bad makes sense from a balance standpoint.

SE sucks when it comes to healers. They simply can't handle it.
WHM has been complete trash for 4 years, AST and SCH have been blatantly OP for almost just as long.
Instead of having all the healers meet half way, they just tore them all down and tried to rebuild them, but failed miserably. The only reason WHM made it out fine is because it was the only healer that wasn't hit with their bright ideas for changes.
If I was to predict the next step in all of this, they're going to mass buff SCH and AST so that they're so strong WHM is on the bench for the next half decade. I'm so tired of the incompetence when it comes to healer balance. Not putting in a 4th healer was the single best thing they could have ever done. I can't imagine us getting a healer even next expansion, it's really that bad.
What utility does AST have now compared to what it had in Stormblood? The average rdps increase of around 700? That still leaves it way below what a whm can do. Without them bringing any "Utility" to the group.
Don't get me wrong I don't really care about DPS and I don't care that WHM can dish out the most damage right now. I am just saying that AST should then bring something else to the table but now that every card is a balance SE basically wants a AST to just bring a dps increase to the group.
I'd be fine if SE took away every DPS skill on a healer but then at least gave something to compensate and make the job fun again.
Heck honestly I wouldn't even know what Utility I'd give an AST at the moment. When playing AST in the beginning I always enjoyed saving up an ewer card just to give someone struggling with mp a little boost or use it myself. But it seems everything seems to have gotten easier. As of right now there is no challenge to playing a healer. No real resource management because we're not really challenged. We have too many tools for not enough situations to use them outside of Wall to Wall pulls in dungeons but that'll go away at some point. MP management is non existent unless you have people suiciding left and right. But that would be more of a fringe case.
The whole situation screams that SE doesn't have a solid plan in place for healers. And no it isn't that their plan just looks different from what the community wants.
Thats how it was even in the past, and I'm okay with that as well, but the amount of ease of raw DPS and healing output WHM puts out is ridiculous. They have a plethora of tools to put out raw healing with litle effort or casting while keeping DPS that far exceeds anything AST or sch puts out for raid DPS or utility.
It wasn't "heavily underpowered". Was weaker, but not like how the current balance has it out to be. This is a gross amount of imbalance between each healer.
OK, I was just wondering what was going on with this. Yesterday, I was working on leveling AST. I had leveled to 73 all through Frontlines, but yesterday I decided to try some dungeons. So, I was quite confused when EVEN IN BATTLE the cards being used on the DPS weren't generating the solar/lunar/celestial seals. I realized it wasn't until I actually used Combust on an enemy and then used a card that I got a seal, which is astronomically ridiculous.
Oh yeah, and Celestial Opposition is a joke now and Divination's CD is WAY too long for what it does.
Two things, and I don't mean to say that WHM is bad atm, but it's important to know what you're talking about when it comes to balance.
Every big heal WHM has costs a cast bar. I don't want you to think WHM is just pumping out these heals from nowhere.
And yes, our DPS can be high, but unlike raid utility that everyone can benefit from so long as the AST uses cards, WHMs high DPS is something you're working for. You can easily come out doing less than 4k in a fight you're struggling to heal, and suddenly you're a lot less useful than AST and SCH. WHMs only notable utility is their DPS, if that's not at least noticeable than there's no point.
Exactly my stance. I've been a SCH main ever since I got my started leveling Scholar in 2.0. But now, I'll do it for my raid group, and as soon as raid time is over, I'll switch to something else. It's sad because I never felt burned out of my job... it's just that it feels clunky, broken and unfun.
I use to main SCH 50% of the time. Now I main Warrior 100% of the time. While love the healing tool kit they gained in this expansion, how they gutted it made it really boring. The Job isnt fun anymore. RIP My SCH: 2.0 ~ 5.0
