Stacking speed lowers your cast time and recast time. Unless you are burning through all of your MP, the marginal benefit is as much or more than other secondaries. 10% off your cast time means you can cast 11% more spells in the same amount of time.

But even the gear for NIN and say DRG doesn't have the OPTIMAL stats all the time. lol Even if you got a specific RDM set, they'd probably still stick Spell speed on it.

As someone who has played SMN since 2.0, I don't have a lot of sympathy here. Spell speed does more for RDM now than it used to for SMN when we had full sets of the stuff.

What if, for RDM only, spell speed also increased magic attack power? Then there is no need to adjust gear.

I'd say that's unnecessary. As is having separate gear for the job entirely. Materia being meldable (and having such potent, easily accessible materia to boot) is the best defense we have against bad stats, as is gear variety (we usually have raid gear, tome gear, and LotA catchup gear) to choose BiS from.

I would think the best defense against bad stats is having no bad stats. Hence the petition to SE to fix the issue instead of having us band aid with materia.

Redmage still gets benefit from spellspeed. You have to hardcast to get dual cast procs, and that limits your resource generation. However, it doesn't directly benefit the TP skills, and may be less desirable than direct hit and crit due to this. Just like any other class, you will have to choose between I'll and stats if you want to min/max.

It's not a dead stat, it's just is lower than a lot of others. You could argue that it should also affect skill speed so it's benefits are similar to other casters though.

You're starting with the assumption that spell speed is a bad stat for RDM.

• Skill speed was bad for MNK because it burned out their TP
• Spell speed was bad for SMN because much of their damage was independent of the GCD (DoTs)

That's not an argument for spell speed being bad for RDM, it's misunderstanding math.

Question from the not having played RDM yet. Right now, IIRC, RDM is highest DPS caster.

So, if SS is the dominant stat on the shared gear, and SS is more beneficial BLM and SMN, would the said stat be a balancer between RDM, BLM and SMN?

Or it means spell speed is more powerful for RDM, and that's why they are the top dps caster.
